1141  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 15, 2021, 10:11:11 PM
Why? Because it is completely arbitrary and does not accomplish what is intended.
Assume several scenarios:
1. A visitor from out of state was traveling, went to piss past a purple post. He/she has no idea, thinks that it is some kind of a decoration-bam, wham. Not exactly the same, but in Florida a nice Japanese student visitor was killed through the door when he was simply participating in Halloween celebration.
2. A local drunkard drove his truck past the "signs", went out to do #1 as well...bam..wham!

In both cases, those who do the shootin' would be dragged through the courts, charged with manslaughter, and even IF they prevail, it is DEFINITELY not worth it if lives were not REALLY in danger.
Protect the property? Well, bears and rabbits shit on your property daily with no recourse..well maybe they got shot too from time to time, which is fine.

Additionally, assume scenario #2 happened. If the guy/gal who was shot in this scenario was also local, you would NEVER be safe.
His or her relatives...they got 'them telescope rifles as well, don't ya think?

Again, shooting mere trespassers is not legal in any case. Urban legends, old wives tales and the fact that you would probably get away with it if you weren't completely stupid notwithstanding. It's merely supposed to be a no trespassing sign. Though I do agree that it's really not very good from the point of view of someone who has never heard of this totally non-obvious custom.

By the way, I do recall reading that there were other parts to the Japanese student (though I think that was Texas) that were not being reported (quelle surprise) which, while not making the event particularly better, do shine a different light on things.

If I'm not wrong Texas has a law that let's you kill anyone entering your property uninvited after dark.
If I recall correctly the couple that shot the Japanese student did shout "freeze" several times and he did not stop, and it was after dark.

Edit: i see now that it didn't take place in Texas so that law obviously wasn't applicable.

You are generally correct, however.  Texas does have this law.

And it is a tremendously civilized position in my opinion.  When you live in the country and come under a threat you MUST be able to defend yourself.  No one wants to be in that position.  And no one with any sense wants to carry the fact that they did ultimate hard to another human, even if justified.  But no one is going to be able to come to your aid if you are threatened miles away from any eve rough civilization, so you carry that responsibility yourself.

I have known a lot of country folks.  And they are, for the most part peaceful and kind.  They would help a stranger who came for help. But if you live out in the middle of nowhere and have someone come on your property uninvited (particularly at night), and then they do not respond to commands to halt...  Well there comes a point where the only sensible move is force.  It's known as Castle Law, or Doctrine.  And it is quite sensible in my opinion.

What will happen of the bears can push this below 45750?

Eek.

I will get to ten coins faster.
😊

Well my arbitrary confirmation bias line continues to hold up?

Who’s selling at bottom ?

Or at -38% ?

Anything from here to lower is considered very very weird to say the least

Just got a my buy $50 a day in btc going on and on and on.

I will hopefully get out of the 1-10 btc status by Jan 1 2023.

Every time I read about someone cracking the 10btc mark, I'm forced to think about mindrust. He was so proud of his 10   ...for a few days.

Please note: Not a comparison to you! I read you are mining shit for bit, and that you most likely have a totally different approach to Bitcoin than him.

If I get to ten coins by Jan 2023 I will be approaching my 66th birthday.

I would be looking to opt out of btc and the game in 2027.

So I am not dropping out like mindrust did 😊

Sure. Age and time is our most limiting factor. Even a harsher than BTCs cap  Tongue
I don't know if you mean opt out from mining or you mean selling. But if it's selling, maybe by then you don't have to sell anymore (Matrix meme)  Cool

Ultimately Bitcoin actually WORKS *because* of our limited time.  It is a fundamental requirement for the system to work at all.

All we are doing is picking a random number between 0 and somewhere around the number of atoms in the known universe.

Anyone else could guess the same number, if he had enough TIME to try.

Well... That is a wacky sort of graph.  But I kind of like it!  Still, I feel certain Proudhon would not approve of the math/science behind that one.

30,000 pages and still no new forum software.

SMF really is nice forum software.  I ran a little forum for a while using it.

But it's amazingly odd that this forum has withstood the sorts of pressures it has running an outdated version of what was an early release of the software.

Seriously... it sort of does not make any sense at all.  I have noticed mods combining sequential posts a lot recently.  I assume the database is becoming unwieldy.

Wasn't that long ago that we were celebrating BTC hitting WO post parity.

I wish.

If Bitcoin does not fail, and is not superseded by another project, your wish will be granted.

We did it boys! This is what MOON feels like:

PS: Screenshot 14.12.2022

Yeah... Never been a fan of this site for SEVERAL reasons (not the least of which being a market cap for Bitcoin is only slightly more valid than one for a shitcoin, and neither is valid) but what the hell?

1149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 14, 2021, 08:24:07 PM
OK!

So many times, we have been here.  XMR/USD at strong (and critical) support:

Same sort of thing in XMR/BTC:

It would be fairly sad to see the price breaking either of these, and devastating if we lost both...  That seems EXTREMELY unlikely.  So for the first time in ages, I am a buyer.

End of year/beginning of new year prediction:

Some well-known entity or person is going to announce a sizeable bitcoin acquisition. It could be Elon Musk (again), Jack, M. Saylor, Ark Invest, or some other notable person or company we haven't heard about yet.

It'll either happen right before 2021 ends, or shortly after 2022 begins.

Just leaving this here for the funzies.

You think the price action is in part reflecting that "work" currently being done?

Yes.

Wealthy elites, entities, and funds don't buy assets on-market and at high prices. They buy OTC, below spot when the asset is undervalued, and their whale connections help them to do it.

I agree with your assessment... and I think we will see much much more of this.  But it is interesting to me to see if this ultra organic asset with a real limited and known supply will be endlessly manipulable like paper gold.  I have a feeling physical gold being sequestered to <God knows where> is an integral part of how this trick works.  With a ephemeral bearer asset I think the kind of shenanigans needed to run this rope-a-dope are in jeopardy, perhaps.

This is a new frontier, I think. A fun time to be alive for sure.

Despite the price-based technical analysis looking shaky today, retail accumulation continues...

https://twitter.com/woonomic/status/1470777764886495233

I do not have access to data ANYTHING like Mr. Woo, but I am NOT seeing this retail volume anywhere...  Wonder what exchange(s) he is using, and I am assuming he must be using USD volume not BTC volume.  This "dip" looks NOTHING like March 2020 to me.

Fuck me for building them a new fence, right?

*shurg*

EDIT: Example drone shots from the ranch border showing how the purple pipes are laid out.

In Texas fence building can be a SUPER LUCRATIVE business as far as I can tell.

I recorded albums for a Texas Country artist years back who does a LOT of house parties (post covid this was one of the only remaining income streams for musicians for a while).  This is great money for your top notch singer/songwriter type.  On rare occasion he has had me sub in for his regular drummer and once we played at a house in the "Highland Park" area of Dallas.  The owner was a man who continued his fathers business of fence building.  They did not do a lot of work in the Dallas city area, where fences are a different kind of business.  Most of their clients were ranch owners like you.  Most of the fences he built were measured in hundreds of yards (if not miles) rather than feet.

So the dude owned a construction business basically... a rather simple one really.  He did all the kinds... post and tensile wire like you show (looks like), or even metal crossbar fences or masonry.  Even the simplest construction possible will add up to an expensive project quickly because the the scale of these projects. He was LOADED.  Fence building is great business evidently!  Definitely more money to be made than playing drums... Wink

My arbitrarily drawn line now seems to be acting as resistance.

My fav thing about bitcoinwisdom is it remembers my last line, and then I can come back and apply confirmation bias in whatever amount that makes me feel like I am smart, to myself.

Apparently orange is purple too.

"In other states, such as Idaho, Montana and Arizona, orange is the color of choice for “No Trespassing” paint.

Can you get shot if you trespass?
Despite what many people may tell you, it’s not legal for landowners to shoot you if you happen to wander past one of these purple markers, however they do have the right to remove you with force if you’re caught trespassing."

For the most part the threat of deadly force is just the teeth that define the ultimate bite in the power of the land owner.  I have known many country folk in my life.  Every one of them would ask nicely before any brandishing would occur.

But property ownership is a fundamental right in my culture (one that is under threat) and on the outskirts of civilization a man must be prepared to defend what belongs to him.

It seems that some entity is stubbornly selling despite the lack of bitcoin inflows to the spot exchanges.

A small nit: whales selling into their own walls is not actually selling.

Although I agree or at least resonate with most of your paranoid theories ( Wink ), this one never makes that much sense to me.  Why would the "whales" spend the money to do this.  Unless, of course, the whales are actually the exchanges themselves?

I am not questioning the validity of your theory.  I am saying I honestly do not understand it.  Can you elucidate?

Perhaps you should consider that maybe the whales only use exchanges to dump the price down while accumulating much greater amounts off-exchange at the lower prices they've created with their manipulation.

Now that I have considered extensively, and have even FREQUENTLY posted the theory.

But I see the other theory as being quite different.  That is wash trading into their own buy walls.  I GUESS that might be a somewhat cheaper way to keep the price from going too far north.  But it will keep the price from going too far south...  But save some sats in the process.  Hmm... *scratching chin*... Maybe I DO see it...

Ok, I'm posting a cat picture.

Or not.

So no it works again, This is a weird day for me.

Arrie!  It has a red dildo in the foreground, damnit!

and let the purple posts every 100 ft serve as the traditional Texas warning to officially "Fuck around and find out"

I find that you are doing purple fence posts to be so delightfully appropriate.  Your color... and one the locals most likely know to respect.  I guess the tradition goes back.

My moms side of the family were country folk.  I used to visit my grandfather in rural NC and we would take a couple cane poles for fishing.  We fished in a creek on his property, but that was on the edge of his neighbors property.  My grandfather, a man of few words pointed out a post with a purple top and asked me if I knew what it meant.  Nope, I said.  And he told me, it's a friendly way to warn people "if you go on that land they'll shoot ya" (the way my grandfather said it was more like "shoochee" lol).

Is this a US thing or a local Texas thing, I have never heard of it before.

I don;t think it's even the whole US.  I think it is a rural south thing.  From Virginia to Texas basically.  Maybe it goes further west.  But it is many decades old, and was a traditional thing before I think it ever ended up an actual ordinance or law, which it is now.  As in it is legally recognized as a no-trespassing signal now.  You can even see cans of paint sold specifically for the purpose.  It is often a purple not far from Bob's own trademark pink-urple color.

It could crush 100 x longs which would make serious money for an exchange .

It is why I would love to see a ban on any leveraged trade over 10x short or long. { Will never happen}

Then why not just sell into support?  Why the wash trading?
