Cheques to be paid in via smartphones

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25495962

Wow, what a revolution. NOT!

Lol, who actually uses cheques any more?

I got a couple over Christmas. I don't even have a checkbook anymore.
1222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't invest in bitcoin; invest in services! on: December 28, 2013, 10:33:14 AM

The chief economist at Invesco John Greenwood is saying investing in bitcoin doesn't make sense because it doesn't satisfy three requirements for currencies: "be an effective medium of exchange for a wide range of goods and services; be a long-term store of value or be used for the settlement of long-term contracts; or be a universal unit of account."

Why does it not satisfy these requirements?
1223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbies *have* to post here first? on: December 28, 2013, 10:08:04 AM
am i suppose to create fake nonsense posts in the newbies forum before i'll *ever* be able
to post in other forums?
some pools, such as [Suspicious link removed] use bitcointalk.org as their essentially official way of communicating
but i'm unable to communicate with them until i post drivel here first???
i've been registered since dec.4

You don't have to create fake nonsense or start your own thread, but you do have to wait four hours.
1224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does anyone else do this? on: December 27, 2013, 06:57:52 PM
I'm trying to figure out if there's any cons to doing this.

Buy Bitcoin on btc-e
Sell on mtgox

It'll probably take an hour or so for each transaction but it'll always be a huge price difference. Why don't we do this?

People do do that. It's called shorting coins.
1225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: need mentor on: December 27, 2013, 06:52:07 PM
I love the line from "Philadelphia" where Denzel says "explain it to me like I am a six year old".

I believe in arguing as devil's advocate and reductio absurdum so do not expect an easy time. You can read my posts to get an idea of where I'm coming from. This bitcoin forum is beginning to remind me of the Linux community where RTFM rules. Unfortunately the bitcoin resources are dense and incomplete (IMHO).  The best answer I've gotten here so far is "I don't know".

I believe in life-cycle analysis and think this has not been done for bitcoin. I need someone who is extremely familiar with the theoretical aspects but can shift easily to the political/social/economic areas.

We might negotiate compensation.

What is RTFM rules?
1226  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Time to boycott coinmarketcap.com on: December 27, 2013, 06:28:45 PM
Looks like ripple must of paid off the owner of coinmarketcap to display ripple as the 2nd most popular cryptocoin .We all know this is a lie as most ripple coins we created and are owned by the company that started it

I don't think there's any evidence to suggest he was bribed, but apparently he took it to a public vote. I don't see how we can trust half of these coins now since the markets are so easily manipulated.
1227  Other / Off-topic / Re: Buttcoin GIRL is back! on: December 27, 2013, 06:23:28 PM
She looks good from the back, but the front?

who cares, as long as she doesn't have a dick.. it's not like you will marry her.

I would marry her if she did have a dick.

Yeah some people have a fetish for that, I think it's gross :\

That's not a real coin is it? You never can tell what's a joke and what's not these days.

I don't think so, but it wouldn't suprise me if it was.
1228  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former CIA chief: Snowden should be “hanged by the neck until dead” on: December 27, 2013, 06:01:08 PM
BTW, Is CIA chief really that bad with executions, I mean hanging if proberly done should instantly kill the subject. So it's not really a suffocation trick that requires time.

Not instantly kill, it would be 10-20 seconds.  Instant would be if something like a shock wave moved faster than neural signal propagation.  But I think the CIA chief was alluding to a painful death, yes.

Snowden is not the problem if he brings the solution.

Snowden is not the problem if he evidenced the problem of lax security at National Stoopids America.

A textbook hanging will snap the neck so that the spinal cord is severed, immediately stopping the heart and lungs and rendering the subject clinically dead within 10 seconds but unconscious the second his spinal cord is severed.  If done properly, there is no pain.

Or actual decapitation if the person is heavy enough or rope long enough. There's a formula out there to prevent accidental decapitation, but it's not always successful.

That formula is explained in this BBC horizon doc: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQTHqg_8_UA

I recommend it. It's about trying to find a truely painless procedure for capital punishment.
1229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin ever be more than a joke? on: December 27, 2013, 05:51:35 PM

They forgot to explain why it's a big deal.
1230  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need separated wallets for dogecoins and bitcoins? on: December 27, 2013, 05:19:57 PM
Or can I just get both of them into one wallet?

You need separate wallets for each coin.

As much as I disagree, selling accounts is not prohibited.

Do you have any better reasons than stating your own opinion about account sale being against forum rules or not?

Here are mine.

Is breaking the forum rules against the forum rules? There are clearly stated rules for new accounts - posting limits. By using a bought account these rules are being explicitly circumvented.

Do you remember that bitcointalk was recently hit by a Man-in-the-middle attack and there was a warning on the frontpage about accounts potentially being stollen? And just a few days later there's this slick guy, posting from a new account, selling accounts for bitcoin? What will stop people from thinking that these are stolen accounts on sale? Feel free to call this a conspiracy, but how long will it take till people start throwing accusations, because this starts to look very much like the inputs.io "hack". If mods want to keep the spirits calm, I'd expect them to want to keep the account management process as transparent as possible and kick the speculators out of here. Or not. Up to them, their move.

PS: that thread seems to be deleted already.

She was one of those women who keep on arguing even when they know they're wrong and have been proven to be wrong. Cannot stand it when people do that.

I've know women who do that. I've never dated one personally, but have mates who have. I honestly don't know why they put up with it.

It's called pussy.
1235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need to convince my Grandma about Bitcoin's benefits... on: December 27, 2013, 03:34:41 PM

1236  Other / Off-topic / Re: FREE MONEY! Wait what? Get outta here.. on: December 27, 2013, 03:22:02 PM
Not sure wether I want to join this heated up topic or not, but since im writing it looks like I want to Wink

First off, I understand both sides.
Doing nothing and getting payed for it? Feels wrong!
On the other hand, there are not enough jobs for everyone. With the industrial revolutions more and more low education jobs are gone.
I think noone really wants to sit on his/her ass and do nothing. But even if you get a fixed amount of money no matter what youd still want to do something, dont you? Maybe its something most ppl wouldnt consider working, but maybe cultural works like art, music or writing. I personally think these cultural works have a value even though you cant sell them (well some artists get good money maybe, but the majority doesnt). So society should pay for it, right? Or mabye reduce daily work to 4 hours and raise the payment so you dont have to work more.

Well in my personal case I wish I had some money so I wouldnt have to work to pay for university.

You never met my ex-wife. She definitely never wants to work a day in her life

Oh I know "these people" you think about, but depending on how you define work, they do wether they know it or not.
Maybe its consulting or doing hair or whatever, even the I play WoW 60 hours a week because I have no job guys I know do some kind of work and even if its writing a how to grind dungeon xyz in WoW guide. Its a basic human principle that we want to communicate and share.
I mean there is this social system that gives them money anyway, so why not give money to everyone else who is doing something besides filling forms.

Heh, mine was a live off what I made and never add a dime type of person. I understand what you mean though. Some people are like this and some are just living off of everyone else!

Sounds like you married a financial dominatrix.
1237  Other / Meta / Re: VIP Member "goat" abusing trust rating system on: December 27, 2013, 03:10:29 PM
For many guys out there this coin is the next big hope including me. No other coin in history of cryptos has seen such virality, media coverage plus getting on 4 major exchanges in first 2 weeks of launch.

Lol, I think you should chose another coin to back. You'd be better off buying Bitcoin and hoping that the price will skyrocet again in the future.
1238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is Ripple? on: December 27, 2013, 02:54:34 PM

Went on a walk with a ferret.  Now driving back south.

much wind!

I ate too much bacon. Smiley

This almost sounds like doge activity.

It's almost a haiku, too!

Haha, it did read a bit like a haiku.
1240  Other / Meta / Re: VIP Member "goat" abusing trust rating system on: December 27, 2013, 02:03:35 PM
Maybe you can only leave trust after both parties have agreed to do a deal. It's silly being able to leave trust for anyone anytime. Can you go on ebay and leave everybody negative feedback without even trading with them?
That would be hard to do. Being able to define when someone has done a trade would have to be done manually. Which would require the staff to do a lot of work. That also requires hiring a lot more staff. Even then you have staff which will be involved in a private trade. Which a lot of people will not agree to as a lot like their privacy.

I don't think it would be that hard to implement, nor does it have to involve staff. Just both users have to agree to a trade by checking a box or clicking a link etc before any feedback can be left.
