1381  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: FTX Claim deadline Sept 29 2023 on: September 12, 2023, 09:31:36 PM
I did not find any link to https://claims.ftx.com/ from https://restructuring.ra.kroll.com/FTX/

I search it on FTX Twitter and did not find any tweet about claiming with that link. Could you share where you got the link, please.

My search goes with FTX Users Potentially Targeted in Possible Phishing Attack as Bankruptcy Claims Deadline Nears that has a link to direct me to FTX Debtors Launch Online Claims Portal for Customers

I agree with you that if the value is small, skip it is better than KYC and lose documents to FTX.
It actually adds up, these scammers might not be after funds possibly lost on FTX, but other exchange accounts might be the target as they harvest user data that they can use later on, especially knowing that we crypto users usually get to use more than one exchange for different reasons!

Secondly, what seems to be a red flag from that claiming process is how poorly they have infused the need to undergo KYC by them making it optional and then later saying "unverified KYC status will be deemed unverified and the Debtors reserve to object such claims on missing or incomplete KYC info" That line alone is off and best to verify this from their official social media accounts or get news from our reputable crypto news outlets.

Based on the search cache in my browser, the claims portal page used to be as follows: https://claims.ftx.com/kroll-portal
Then a few days ago I read this thread that their restructuring agency had a data breach. I think they have canceled cooperation in this case considering the link above is no longer available.
Data breach you don't say, anybody affected by this should handle this with due diligence!

I mean when such an occurrence happens isn't ample time supposed to be given to its clients, but here timeline is tight Roll Eyes my guess, this is meant to cause panic and prompt users to give up their data for their coins..btw any emails of any sort as a reminder to claim as they should have this info on file if the verification process is real Roll Eyes Huh

First time seeing this pool and just trying to get clarity before joining...

So to get started, I see we have 2 pools going on here
  • a. Prize Pot A: Classic score-based prediction on Superbru
  • b. Prize Pot B: Odds-based prediction on Google forms

Playing for Prize Pot A is easy to understand, but for the Prize Pot B, is this going to be played on Rollbit site as I saw this writing " paid Bitcointalk participants of this pool will gain exclusive access to Rollbit's UCL sportsbook specials " So are we required to place bets here [Rollbit website]or everything will be done on the special spreadsheet  Roll Eyes Hope am not asking questions that have already been answered..

1384  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading not for everyone! on: September 12, 2023, 05:21:53 PM
Trading is certainly not for everyone especially since the numbers show that only 1% of traders are actually profitable  Roll Eyes

But then again skills like trading aren't airdropped at any of us... Someone has to practice, fail , practice again until they master this art and it all starts from being a beginner in this art regardless of the outcome. Besides the road to success is sometimes through failure, and giving up because you failed once shouldn't be the reason for not giving it another try, but should trading negatively affect your health, and financial wellbeing then it is a valid reason to give up!!!

Don't follow the crowd, follow what has profitably proven to work for you. In cryptocurrency market it is time that makes the difference in our profit-making.
Agreed, it's not always the majority that gets to make the right decisions...sometimes it's about defying the odds to go for what works for you Cool

1386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: September 12, 2023, 01:14:15 PM
Hansi Flick was fired as Germany coach after the humiliating defeat against Japan. For Germany's next match against France in a friendly match, the German Football Federation (DFB) will show Rudi Voller.
Regarding Flick, perhaps many of us have heard this news.
I dont think this was the best course of action for a team that is just ushering in a new crop of younger players!!!

Besides, most of our leagues just started and I dont think these guys have gotten the fittness to get the desired results, and looking at the back line..this looks like a team that just doesnt have the team chemistry as the old Germany team that had the likes of Dante, Manuel Neuer & other big names retired or missed out!!

And you know what they say, "It's always darkest before the dawn" so these results need to happen so that the team knows what to work on and then team building will happen, but if they choose to skip this stage then all coaches coming here will likely be sacked for not getting the desired results because they havent allowed the team building to take its course.. otherwise the Japanesse were superb against the Germany's Grin !
1387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 12, 2023, 08:34:25 AM
The bitcoin fees market is getting out of control. Someone must've been really in a hurry as they paid BTC19.82 (~$511,000) fee just to send $2k worth.
Jokes aside, probably a very painful mistake. I wonder how's it going to unfold and whether the miner will return it to the unlucky sender.

I know for certain you can track which miner mines the block and what time this happened, but Is it even possible for a miner to return such a good reward??

As far as am concerned miners look forward to harvesting such block rewards because they know that these mistakes always happen & will not stop today either and you can not blame anybody for such a costly mistake, besides why bother with the fees when 8 out of 10 times the fees suggested by the wallet app will usually be adequate enough for you not to wait all day for a single confirmation Huh

Whatever is happening here, this guy has learnt the hard way!

Edit
Saw this in the news yesterday, and like it was stated there, the pool that took the fees have already set it aside giving the owner of the transaction 3 days to come forward and claim back the fees.

And it was also learnt that the wallet that sent this transaction likely belonged to an exchange, and the high fees was as a result of faulty or software that malfunctioned

lucky whale/exchange hope they make the claim as time is counting down Cool
1388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's Stabilize Bitcoin on: September 12, 2023, 08:19:06 AM
In order for Bitcoin to be widely used for payments, it is necessary to stabilize price fluctuations.
I don't think this will be possible to achieve as not everyone is treating BTC as a currency, others see it as a store of value and whenever Bitcoin price goes up..then it's more than likely that they will sell to recoup some from this move hence stabilizing price fluctuations is almost impossible...besides price fluctuations are a good thing as they show the power of supply and demand or tag of war between sellers and buyers & if this isn't present price would be in an equilibrium where price fluctuations are minimal.

The dollar is not a stable, is it?

Well, nothing in this world is totally stable. But fiat is stable enough (well, in most countries) to be used as currency.
"Nothing in this world is totally stable," agreed!!
And the thing with currencies is that the common person only sees 1 dollar and looks stable to everyone, but unfortunately, there is a whole lot going on with fiat that we don't see and traders will tell us the dollar needs to be quoted with its other digits to make it look like this $1.0881 and its constantly changing which shows its not really stable  Roll Eyes.
1389  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mistake that prevented your big win. on: September 12, 2023, 05:12:02 AM
I have had a similar experience of having a good 9 leg accumulator bet mixed with some live games which was just paying slightly above 10k off a $50 bet and by the way, am not a fan of these accumulator bets as I believe it is the fastest way to lose money but this one was different, and I went for it and this included the most dreadful team..Manchester United, and you can guess these guys conceded first as always and having more than half of the teams in green with about 3 to go...my cashout offer I had disappeared and here I was wishing I had taken it but unfortunately these small football teams come with big boy pants and United never got to win that game & that's how I missed out on a big win off a small wager. Thats why these days I limit my accumulators to 3 to 4 games max to reduce my risk of losing.

Any business where today you launch, tomorrow you begin making profit...?

A friend of mine asking me a business idea, and he told me it is a big profit business idea, I'm missing out for not entertaining his advice! He told me everything would be smooth sailing, and very big profit too.
Before putting our friendship before any business ventures.. first have an open mind to avoid making a reckless decision, and btw if this involves your buddy running the actual business to make the big profit then this has to raise an eyebrow because I have seen people come up with the best money making ideas not until they say they need to be the person to run the business & receive the business funds only to learn the person needed this money for some personal agendas...which is why we are advised not to mix friendship and business.

And by the way, business can sometimes be considered as gambling as you don't get to hit profits every other day , so someone telling me that its smooth sailing is hiding something or it's a lure mechanism that has his interests as top priority !!

I also only want a business that is profitable as soon as I form it legally, register the entity, file for licensing, any paper work, legal business by laws (no selling weeds or explosive).
For such a business proposal, am thinking it has to be something of high value and illegal stuff you dealing in, as they say that the higher the risk the better the reward...If it's anything that involves an honest living expect cashflows not to be consistent.
1393  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: AFCON Qualifiers 2023 on: September 11, 2023, 06:56:27 PM
For the first time in African football history, a country has produced male and female Balon D'or nominees in the same year and that I think is a big achievement for Nigeria and also a very commendable feat that's been achieved by the most populous black nation.
Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala deserves their nominations after an impressive season with their respective European clubs. That been said, I don't think any of them stands a chance to win the prestigious prize when it'll be announced on 30 October at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
Victor Osimhen needs no introduction when it comes to football, as his among the best strikers of his generation and has been a top performer for some time & not limited to a season of football and deserves the Balon D'or nomination.

As for Asisat Oshoala, well let me first say I come in peace  Grin For her, I think it's the politics of football at play, as she has gone against some of their beliefs and this is meant to keep people talking and breaking the ice of some of the norms to be eased on women...and btw am not saying she's not a good footballer.. just thought the worldcup isn't enough to win her this  Balon D'or but the nomination itself is a winner.
1394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be rich sheeple or free people, what's your choice? on: September 11, 2023, 04:33:39 PM
- Bitcoin gets accepted everywhere, every government legalizes it, all mining is centralized, everyone must register every address with the local IRS, you're not allowed to send money outside legal addresses and miners are refusing those, every single transfer is taxed, the government can decide at any point to seize your coins and can do that with ease. BUT the value will go up 1000x times to 30 big ones!
- Bitcoin is not legal tender, but the genie makes it so that the government has no way and no intention of making any move against it, nobody is banning you from owning, nobody is taxing you, nobody cares about your KYC, AML, taxes, profit, any legal action against anything that involves Bitcoin is impossible and illegal, any seizure impossible as it would break the law, you're as free as one can be. But the price stays forever at $30,000.

No middle way, no trick, no further questions, no this or that, your choice and tell me why this and not that!
Don't know if the stroll got you thinking outside the box or you are just creative, but I like the crypto fantasy going on here and you should take more walks   Grin

Now, coming to the two tough questions at hand, this is like choosing between being a slave or enjoying your freedom without any interferance, and to be honest any sane person will prefer their freedom though when it comes to money matters..seems like the narrative usually changes and from the two options I would rather go with the first option of having the money because I know money is as good as power and I can buy my freedom with it!

The problem with the choice of mining being centralized is that it doesn't portray anymore bitcoin as a wholly decentralized cryptocurrency.

We do want to have a support from the government but if it's going to take even mining to become centralized, how is that going to go? Like everyone has to register every time we get some transactions?

I don't think that many are going to stay with that type of setup.
Agreed, as much as we love our government being involved in our crypto business, the is a line that they can not cross as this interferes with the decentralized ecosystem of bitcoin.

1396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto or Real estate on: September 10, 2023, 11:57:56 PM
The fact that I know that real estate does not depreciate  regardless of weather the property is built on prime land or not, it will never lose value and for this I pick Real estate unlike crypto which is highly speculative and will only hold good value depending on good market conditions such as good Political environment..which could branch out into favorable regulation, technological advancement, etcetera

And btw, when it comes to risk, of the two I believe Real estate is a low risk industry and can guarantee a stable income unlike crypto which is seasonal and cannot always guarantee profits when one invests in it.
1397  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: KYC matter? on: September 10, 2023, 10:35:03 PM
What are the repercussions of failing to complete KYC on an exchange?
Unfortunately you only get to feel/know the repercussions of failing KYC on a CEX if you hold funds on the exchange & try to withdraw,  and the stupid thing about KYC is these guys will never bother you when depositing funds on their platform not until its time to take money out Roll Eyes and funny thing is that very few of us choose to go for KYC before the deposit which needs to change !!

But usually failing KYC means losing the liberty to use your funds as you would if it were in your personal wallet , which is why many pro users would advice on using a DEX or exchange that is not KYC compliant or flexible on this issue...otherwise only way out is to pass it and get your funds out asap!
1398  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PayPal Just Announced Plans to Launch a USD Stablecoin - Thoughts? on: September 10, 2023, 09:25:51 PM
For a company like PayPal who love to control their ecosystem...I bet you this stablecoin will make it possible for buyers and sellers to be able to chargeback because buyer/seller protection are among their feature products that make PayPal popular .

Btw, when it comes to PayPal and crypto very few countries have access to this and how will this stablecoin work...will it also be exclusive to a few countries  Roll Eyes Already seeing red flags coming from these guys  Cry
1399  Economy / Economics / Re: BRICS has become eleven countries instead of five. on: September 10, 2023, 02:35:24 PM
BRICS inclusion of some of these oil rich Arab nations will put pressure on the West and non Brics nations in terms of energy and the economy..and not forgetting one of the major agendas of ending the dollar dominance which has long been threatened as this is turning to be a real tale!!
At this point, I believe even the sanctions put on Russia aren't felt as it's BRICS allies will be at the aid of these guys to trade in whatever commodities they need and it will be business as usual...and seeing what's happening with Oil around the world, tbh BRICS is definitely winning this one and there is no stopping them taking into consideration the 46% of the world's population Influence!!

The best the West can do is go back to the table and draw up new treaties with these guys to make the survival of other nations possible as its not going to negatively affect the USA alone!

1400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Common Bitcoin ideas on: September 10, 2023, 01:06:01 PM
This brought me into thinking how do we make people understand Bitcoin properly in order to prevent them from being scammed and end up disliking the crypto space. Is introducing them into Bitcoin talk enough ? If no what else more can we do easily to make them actually get the idea of Bitcoin.
To be honest, I don't blame the majority of people thinking bitcoin is a scam because many of the times..we have a lot of scammers all claiming to multiply funds X times for a small investment and everyone that has done so has nothing nice to say because they not only lost the investment but profits never showed up too.

And worse off, crypto sensitization on how to protect oneself in the cyberspace is hardly done which leaves room of scammers to have an upper hand...which is why due diligence and research should always be encouraged to have first hand information and how to be make crypto smart decisions.
