141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery Fever. What are your range of thoughts in response to Lucky Winners? on: April 10, 2024, 01:38:44 PM
If you are planning on doing the lottery, then expect nothing at all. The chances of you hitting the jackpot are astronomically low that you are better than experiencing all sorts of things than to win the lottery.

If you have spare cash specifically allocated for the lottery, then feel free to do so since the price of tickets are relatively low. But expect nothing when you try the lottery- just do it for the sake of that hope of winning and nothing more than that.

My father has been consistently buying lottery tickets and there was a time that he won 5/6 numbers. He was able to bag at least $5,000 from that but he was never able to repeat this experience.

144  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online casino gambling is more of profit chasers while land base is more of fun on: April 10, 2024, 12:33:46 PM
What is your opinion towards my research that online casino gambling has more of possesed players who stakes to make profits while the land base gambling is more of players who stakes for funs?

This depends as it really varies per luck of the person.

In an online-based platform, people are more inclined to gamble due to its nature. Imagine, you are gambling at the convenience of your own and device as you can particularly gamble anywhere that you want. In this kind of gambling, people are more focused on earning profits than playing the game itself. Arguably, however, there are people who enjoy card games online as it is just really convenient.

In a land-based platform, people also gamble for profit but they also want to experience the ambience of a gambling establishment. There are also people who want to maximize the opportunities of having complimentaries (e.g. drinks, venue, etc.) for the whole package and experience.

Though this may be the case, it just really depends on the preference of a person. There are people who enjoy gambling online; whereas there are few who want to earn profit through gambling in an establishment.
145  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you achieved anything from gambling on: April 09, 2024, 04:30:05 PM
Funny thing is, the things that I achieved from gambling are not the monetary aspects, but the learnings and experiences that taught me while I was an addict in the past.

Back then, I used to gamble on a frequent basis to the point that I use my savings just to satisfy that "itch" of betting. It came to a point where I was winning huge amounts of money and I really thought that I can use this as a means of income.

Long story short, my winnings were just the beginnings and my losses were the end- I lost control of my expenses and it made me suffer financially. There was also a time that my relationship with my family members were strained due to this intense pressure and addiction; I really thought that I would lose everything. But those experiences taught me on how to be a better person and it also gave me an opportunity to be responsible enough to save money.

So I guess that is what I achieved in gambling- not the money that I have earned but the lessons that I acquired along such exciting yet treacherous journey.
146  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you depend on game predictions by supercomputers? on: April 09, 2024, 03:41:15 PM
If the last prediction where it says  Liverpool will win and did happen then it might just be a coincidence but if the 2nd time Manchester City will win, I think there is got to be truth to this supercomputer you are saying. But why don't you try betting to see if it predicts right?

It's been talked about that AI in sports betting might just be useful for us but I didn't expect it to happen so soon. I am assuming the AIs will need to pull data from millions of bettors and pick the bettors who have been predicting winners all the time and that's what AIs will predict as the outcome as well.

There has to be some sort of data gathering in which supercomputers will use as basis for their predictions.

Though this may be the case, I still think that relying solely on supercomputers for our bets in sportsbetting is still NOT recommended due to its nature. If supercomputers are indeed reliable, then everyone would have been using it which would render sportsbetting not profitable in any case.

At the end of the day, gambling is luck with an application of skill in some platforms and games. Sure, there may be times where we can increase the percentage of us winning but there will NEVER be a time where we would accurately predict 100% sportsbetting.
147  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it right to advice other people against gambling for personal reasons like?? on: April 06, 2024, 06:37:04 PM
What do you make of this, I honestly do not know but deep inside of me, I feel it's absolutely wrong to advice people against doing something, just because you did the same thing and it did not favor you..

Do you guys think it's OK to advice other gamblers to quit gambling simply because of your own bad experience, does your bad experience mean that every other gambler out there will also have the same bad experience?
I will like some really useful discussions around this topic.

I somehow agree with what that person advocates for.

Remember that gambling is not just a simple activity- it is an addiction that can cause you to self-destruct if you lack the necessary precautions and responsibility in maintaining your finances. I am pretty sure that the intention of the person is good- imagine, he is passionately sharing his story in order to warn users about the pitfalls of gambling addiction and the things that you may expect if you lose control of your finances.

Again, it is definitely okay to give advice to people about gambling addiction. I mean, he is speaking from experience and he truly wants people to avoid what he had encountered in the past.

At the end of the day, it is not about that he had a "bad" experienced in gambling, it is all about its general effects and overview on the subject matter. Heck, even people who won huge amounts in gambling still advice people to NOT gamble in the first place.

REMEMBER:
There are certain rules and advice surrounding gambling addiction that were written in blood. There is no harm in heeding to the advice of people who have personally encountered these.
148  Economy / Economics / Re: How does one know and join the right community after a job loss? on: April 06, 2024, 06:06:50 PM
If along the line you suddenly loss your job for one reason or the other and now you have to rely on whatever wits and skills you have to survive with a family, instead of trying to look for another job and be doomed to misery, supposing you have some skill of sort that has been hidden and waiting to be explored, how do you hone such a skill, so much so that you earn from it?

This is where playing with your strengths comes into play.

If you have a certain hobby/skill that you are confident with, then exercise that opportunity in order to have an advantage compared to others.

For example, if a person lost their current job but they are good with cooking, perhaps they can start a small cookery on their garage and establish a mini-joint restaurant. Another example, if a person is well-versed with playing instruments, perhaps they can attend different gigs to play music on the street and at least receive some small compensation along the way.

Quote
My question is that, how does one go about joining the right community to fulfil a dream after a job loss?
How does one know the right persons to follow and community to join to help them achieve their dream or purpose in this life?

Actually most of the time you do not know which community or persons to follow especially if you are on your own.

In simple terms, it is a leap of faith that you exercise as you will definitely learn and discover along the way. There is this famous quote that says that luck is when opportunity meets preparation, meaning that you prepare for such opportunity to happen by practicing it over and over again.
149  Economy / Gambling / Re: How to self exclude from anonymous gambling sites on: April 06, 2024, 05:34:44 PM
I personally don't see staying away from gambling as something that requires too much help efforts or advice as long as the individual involved make up their mind to gamble within the set rules and limits, this is very important because everything starts and ends with the gamblers not the casino or anyone else.

That's true, everyone makes their decision individually of becoming a gambler and choose their desiring platform for that, in which in all of these process, no one enforces any decision making process on a gambler, so they are expected to also make an effective use of the gambling avenue for their own good as well as considering gambling in the normal and appropriate manner that suite their standard without complaining.

I humbly submit that it is definitely easier said than done.

As someone who experienced gambling addiction before, the first step of recovering is always to admit that you are suffering from gambling addiction. After such admission, this second step will be to make realistic goals and committing to such plans. This will be difficult given that there are lots of trigger that can tempt you back to gambling.

For example, gambling ads have been very rampant over the past years given that there has been a shift to online gambling, which is the famous type of gambling platform nowadays. In order to avoid seeing this gambling ads that can trigger a response, there has to be some sort of tool that blocks these ads in order to self-exclude yourself.

Just to reiterate my point, self-exclusion can be helpful especially to people who are trying their best to exhaust all means combatting gambling addiction. I just hope that there are tools designated to address this problem.
150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do not forget your Bitcointalk account password!!! on: April 06, 2024, 01:42:00 PM
Thank you for sharing this, OP!

This is one of those things that most people often neglect when they create their account. Some of the people provide misleading/inaccurate information that can be troublesome in the future if they lose access to their accounts.

I am somehow worried about the security of my account that I really had to check my registered email if all my information are there. Good thing is, this account is linked to that email; in case of recovery, I have a backup secured.

Just a question, assuming that our registered email in your account does not work, are there any ways in order to recover your said account?

For example, can you present proof to admins that you own a certain account by showing proof of signed messages, etc. as a way to recover your account?
151  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Always check the deposit address on: April 06, 2024, 12:38:02 PM

The lesson here is always check the wallet address before you deposit no matter how long do you use the same address. Most importantly don’t use casino wallet address to receive funds that has a delay such as loan money and campaign payments since there’s a chance that they will update their wallet address without prior notice. Keep safe and have fun.
Do not be I rush or in a hurry. And do not get used to the address you forget to double check.
What I do is to always check the first five figures and the last five figures. Then I cross check with the on the gambling website.
I know the consequences of failure to do so. It's is like double losses. Double losses because you don't know if you will win after you stake your bet.

I also agree with your statement.

Just to share a personal story of mine which happened a few years ago involving wallet addresses:

In our country, we have this local wallet that is mostly used by our citizens due to its convenience. It is an exchange where you can directly pay your bills, utilities expenses, and even convert BTC directly to our local currency. Since almost all of us use this wallet, unfortunately, my wallet address was been flagged in this forum. I primarily use that local wallet address to receive my BTCs from campaign signatures but I was wrongfully accused that my wallet belonged to another account; so in short, I was somehow questioned for multiple account farming.

Though it may be different to what you posted OP, it still is relevant by keeping your wallet address safe and secure. I had a friend who wrongfully copied his address as he mistakenly added a "0" at the end which resulted to a loss of 0.2 BTCs in total.
152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you consider yourself, the family and gambling? on: April 06, 2024, 11:03:27 AM
1. At what age will you allow your child to start gambling? that is if you will even allow for that at all?

I mean, c'mon- I would try my very best to avoid my child being exposed to gambling at a young age.

Let's not kid ourselves here- we all know the effects of gambling and on how it can be destructive to a person. If a fully adult man can experience suffering from gambling despite having the means to do so, then how can you expect children to handle it?

Quote
2. At what age do you see yourself quit gambling? that is also if some of us are going to ever do so?

I think it is not about the age but the time you realize that gambling is a means to an end.

Personally, I realized that gambling was not for me in my mid 20s. When I was a young adult, I kept gambling in online websites because it felt that I had nothing to lose. More importantly, I have been using the money that my parents gave me as my means to gamble.

Once you start living for yourself and you have obligations to meet, then you will realize that you have to stop your vices on focus on building your career and family.

Quote
3. Ever since you have started gambling, have you ever achieve a satisfying level that makes you think it has good impact on you?

The positive thing that gambling taught me is that it made me realize my limits. It also taught me on self-control and meeting my responsibilities. Sure, gambling is fun when you win but once you experience a losing streak, that will definitely pull you into a rabbit hole that will slowly suck your earnings away.

Quote
4. Would you have missed out on anything if you were not a gambler?

Like what I answered above, gambling taught me on how to be responsible with my finances (ironically).

The best teacher will always be experience. When you start hitting rock bottom, you start to realize that the past decisions that you made. It made you to re-evaluate all the things you've done that lead you to experience this situation.
153  Other / Off-topic / Re: Just another gambling addict story. on: April 06, 2024, 08:53:47 AM
What he did: Borrowed 15,000 PHP from a neighbor which is his gambling opponent. Pawned the tricycle (trike) for 12,000 PHP. Stolen 13,000 PHP from the piggy bank of his nephew. And more hidden borrowed small amounts.

Who will pay? My wife (which means my money too) and his sister working in Italy.

You do not have the obligation to pay the loan of your neighbors unless you are the guarantor himself.

In the case of your brother, he is personally liable for the loans that he incurred. He should actually commit in paying the loan amounts in an installment basis so that he could relieve himself of that liability.

Quote
That's when I told my wife that this is a gambling addiction and the brother should be rehabilitated once he goes back. He will just do it over and over again and we will be the ones shouldering all the problems.

Do you guys have other solutions to this kind of problem? Because that's all I can think of. He will probably lay low for a month or two but he will be back to gambling again.

He will definitely do it again.

The fact that he even stole money from your nephew's piggy bank is just appalling. I honestly believe that he will refuse any form of therapy until he pays all of his loan obligations. If you really want to help your brother, then do your best to avoid exposing him in certain triggers that are associated with gambling.

For example, you can borrow his phone and try your best to exclude certain websites that may trigger a response to gambling. But in all honesty, your brother definitely needs professional help since he is already too deep in his addiction. He can definitely self-destruct in any minute and he would threaten against his life again.
154  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gambling problems on different races on: April 05, 2024, 06:27:33 PM
Africans have little of gambling addict because they have only local gambling shops (lack of economic opportunities to improve the level of gambling). so they rarely reach full addiction. While in some other part of the world like the white, they are more likely to have co-occurring gambling disorders because of  depression or anxiety. And other races have high rate of gambling problems due to the presence of casinos on reservations, for example in Asia.

I somehow disagree with your statement and take that race has a factor in gambling.

In the grand scheme of things, it is not about race that separates people from becoming addict- it is about the opportunity and environment on how they were raised. You specifically mentioned "Africa" on how they have little-to-no addicts on their country. Perhaps you should consider their status affairs and opportunities available.
If you put an African person in the same setting, same status, and same opportunity as a person living in a first world country, then most likely the result would be the same.

So just to reiterate my point, it has NOTHING to do with race but it is more on the environment on how a person was brought up, the people surrounding him/her, the opportunities available, and the overall welfare on how they were raised by their parents that affect if a person would develop an addiction towards gambling.
155  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I really hold onto my bitcoins in the future? on: April 05, 2024, 05:55:30 PM
Now the bitcoin market has increased a lot, should I sell my bitcoins? I will use it in a small business. Should I be given more time for the job? I have to take a decision in the next two months. Experienced members of the forum give me some advice what should I do.

BTC halving is coming and if you would base it on its price history, there is a trend that the price may skyrocket after the said halving.

Now, remember that BTC is an investment- meaning, they are money in which you should use if you are financially challenged. If you have BTCs currently, use and convert them to your local currency so you could at least mitigate the problem you are facing.

You mentioned you were unemployed at the moment and helping out yourself and your family has become quite difficult. If you’re really in a fix and you’ve got some bitcoin holding, you could sell off some of your assets to get yourself together.
You’ve got to examine your finances; knowing if you could hold off on selling your bitcoins till later on this year. You mentioned you’ve got two months before you take a decision. You could always continue job hunting while holding onto your coins. If the situation doesn’t improve, then you could sell off some of your coins to help pay for yours and the needs of your family.
You are right here. Don’t be too greedy holding your bitcoin when your life is already at mess seeing you struggle a lot in your finances. Prioritize the needs of your family first, and since you still haven’t got a job, then don’t hesitate to sell your bitcoin. You can always reinvest in another time, but you can’t delay the basic needs of your family. So never doubt selling your bitcoin if it will save your problem at the moment.

I definitely agree with your statements.

Again let me reiterate, what is the point of an investment if you are not going to use it when the price matures already? The purpose of an investment is for long-term profit. But if you are struggling financially, then feel free to convert your coins to your local currency. Treat it as your emergency funds/money which should be use for helping you.

I actually base my decision on the price history of BTC.

Back nun nag start ako last 2017, nagkaroon na din siguro ng 1-2 halvings that time. Biggest regret ko was spending all of my BTCs na naipon ko sa signature campaigns kase biglang tumataas talaga yung price nito. I do think na there is a possibility na tumaas ulit ang price ng BTC after this halving kaya recommended talaga na mag HODL muna and convert to cash if comfortable na sa price.

I also agree na dahil sa ETF approval ng SEC, malaking factor na talagang magiging comfortable and secure yung BTC long-term. Yun nga, madami pa din hindi naniniwala and tingin agad nila dito is "scam" pero with this ETF approval, onti onti nang mababawasan ang skepticism ng mga tao dito.
157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you advise a friend in the same way? on: April 05, 2024, 05:06:28 PM
Is this the wrong advice? A friend of mine took over his father's company because he is so old already and he told me about the money thats available doing nothing in the bank.

I told him to think about investing that money if he wants to keep the company growing, I told him about how MicroStrategy is doing so well using Bitcoin as a strong backbone of the company, I believe that even a small company can turn big if they use Bitcoin as their main investment.

Or am I wrong? I need to know if this advice is a good one or a bad one, I gave him this advice because we are very close and also because I will do the same thing if I am in his shoe, this is the best thing i can think of right now.

Well I think that your advice was sound- you are basing this on experience and if people would just search BTC and its price history, the proof is already on the pudding.

My advice would is that you try to tell your friend and explain to him the reasons on why you chose BTC as an investment compared to other traditional investment platforms available. Instead of convincing him, explain it in a way that he would get the core of cryptocurrencies so that he would consider it.

I read a recent post on reddit where people would try to convince the general public on investing in BTC. Unfortunately, majority of the people are so blinded by what is shown on the media that they automatically associate BTC as a "scam" and as a "pyramid scheme" without even knowing what it is in the first place.
158  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Don't make your bets when you're tired on: April 05, 2024, 04:44:17 PM
I think it's more dangerous to be demoralized rather than tired. For example, I've had this happen several times: I come home from a work shift and start betting. They are small, but when I see that they are not winning, I bet more. And then another and another, forgetting to eat and to sleep. And then an uncontrolled state begins - having already lost half of the deposit, tired and angry, I bet everything I have on an absolutely stupid match. And that time I was lucky - I was able to win back. But uncontrolled play in a tired state does not lead to good.

Not only gambling but everything is risky if done half asleep. Many people have met with accidents while driving half asleep.
Gambling is just the same. Whether tired or in sleep, if you are gambling in such conditions you are bound to lose your money.

I can personally attest to this as I had experience this before.

Back when I used to frequently gamble my savings, there will come a time where I am both physically and mentally tired to continue. I had this mindset of you miss 100% of the jackpots you don't take that lead me to continuously gamble despite running out of cash. More importantly, it really went downhill from that pint due to the fact that I was not in the position to think straight and rationally- all I wanted to experience was to win big.

Moral of the story: if you gamble without setting limits, you may experience fatigue that can cloud your judgement and reasoning. This is very much dangerous because you may not be able to stop with an irrational mood. You will self-destruct slowly and you would experience inevitable overexpenditure.
159  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Amazing Vintage Slot Machines on: April 05, 2024, 04:07:26 PM
If Online casinos are now using software to program Slot Machines and there may be some manipulation being done, then what about Vintage slot machines like this?
There is nothing cannot be manipulated. It doesn't matter if it is analogy or digital, modern or vintage. Slots can be manipulated by dishonest owners for personal profit. There are two way which I learned that vintage slot machines are manipulated. One way is that they put a plug on the reel stop cog so the stop arm could never land on a particular symbol. Another way is that some of them won't let you win until a certain number of rolls are made.

I do think that these vintage slot machines cannot be manipulated since they are working machines that does not require any electricity to work.

For example, if you compare an electric bike to a vintage old manual bike, then you would notice that the former requires electricity to work; whereas the old bike just needs physical effort for you to move. You can basically apply the same principle in these slot machines- you push the lever and pray that you get matching images for you to win.

I do agree, however, that there is a tendency for manipulation in modern slot machines as these are operated electronically. Though that may be the case, I still think that the government are strict when it comes to gambling; that any sort of manipulation that can increase house edge beyond the allowable rules/law would have their gambling license revoked.
160  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does prediction in sport work for you? on: April 05, 2024, 03:21:22 PM
If you are interested in gambling on sports, do you rely on prediction betting sites? Why?
What is the most prominent site you rely on?

I usually avoid prediction websites since I do not want to completely rely on third-party information though they can be used as reference.

As a general rule, if you are choosing sports-betting as your mode of gambling, then it is recommended that you personally do your research. If you do your own research, it can be fool proof in a way that you can check all the information that you have gathered. If you completely depend on third-party websites, there is that possibility that the information that they have may be compromised in a way to the point that they may actually let you vote on a losing team.

Same principle in confirming news on TV- instead of relying on random broadcasts, check the information firsthand through legit websites to confirm if what they are saying is true.
