To other patrons of this thread: Thoughts on the necessity/usefulness of going to these lengths?
You can never have too much overkill. Given that Intel firmware could be doing anything, the next step up in security would be to use open hardware (raspberry pi?), and bypass the printer. Just generate the keys, record the address, viewkey and seeds redundantly on archival paper with indelible pen, and wipe everything. I have infinitely more confidence in open hardware than I do in anything with "trusted computing" features. Paranoid much? Odd numbered seed words go in safe deposit boxes on two continents. Even numbered seed words go in two boxes on two other continents. Now at least two continents must be compromised to DoS your funds. Or you could steg the seed words into some books that will be stocked in libraries, if you are truly an elite master. Arxiv.org doesn't have nearly the redundancy of physical libraries. So library nodes store proof-of-publication blockchains? Impressive that XMR is your largest asset. Was that the case before the recent run-up, or a result of it? Smart guy like you probably has a condo/loft and duplex rental, so that's one hell of an XMR stack! Kids, avoid printers at all costs. They are basically hardware rootkits. Acid-free paper + graphite pencil + laminate. Or engrave on metal.

Sounds like recent Monero pump is due to darknet markets adding it?
Because of it's fundamentals around true financial privacy, yes Monero is being adopted by the DNM's. Is it true? ®

Soon, no mixing service will be able to "hide" BTC transactions.
Moreover, all of those past transactions through mixers are going to redflag you. The cows already left the barn. I am hoping you used a non-cooperating, un-penetrated, exchange as a cut-out, because otherwise your coinbase/circle accounts are going to get locked down, and your PII goes on a DHS/DOJ/DOT/JTF/FinCen red letter list. No security clearance for you. (Oh and that non-cooperation and un-penetrated status has to persist until your death.) Fortunately the U.S. doesn't usually apply hereditary taint domestically, so your children will be okay. For now. Until the U.S. and Chinese systems converge more fully. They are tending to converge pretty strongly lately, though. It's not paranoia when they really are out to get you. Relevant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WTBkj8gFfI

I have a hunch that they will release the gui wallet sometime before Monero trading on AlphaBay begins on Sept 1.
Soon..
Well that might be icing on the cake as far as price rise. Looking forward to the GUI myself. Not happening before Sep 1. I will ride the NYC subway naked if the GUI is released before Sept 1st LOL quoted for posterity. For maximum marketing publicity, please use a Sharpie to write adverts/slogans for Monero on yourself before being arrested.

If you will allow me to play devils advocate. I have very little faith in the mental faculties of my fellow man. Consequently I find it hard to believe that dash failed to gain traction on the darknet markets it was introduced on as a result of any sort of technical understanding on the part of market actors. Meaning, to most of them, monero is going to appear indistinguishable. What reason do we have to believe a private currency will gain traction this time when it failed last time?
Dash uses its own version of Coinjoin, which DNM were already using to tumble. But Dash's version has far less volume, so mixing takes hours or days. And most DNM ops understood it was instamined. Awareness of fungibility, block size, hard forkability, and the dangers of bad crypto (thanks DAO) are at ATH. XMR was already on the anon community radar since Shen broke Shadowcash, if not earlier.

Where do we need to draw the lines now for Aminorex's marketmaking?
I'd like 1. a BitSquare.io node 2. a market-making bot to (safely/dispassionately) manage a few 1000 XMR worth of buys and sells on the BitSquare I believe that's the path towards fixing the potential single point of failure Polo dependency.

And when Nucleus started accepting Dash, there was no end of breathless "ZOMG MOON" hype.
Sorry to pop your bubble of retardation, iCEHOLE-Raper. But how about you provide any evidence for your "moon hype" theory? Because the quote you're referring to is 100% accurate. Dash never was marketed towards the Darknet. In fact Darkcoin was rebranded to Dash BECAUSE of the Darknet market association. Another embarrassing failure in the face of logic and facts. So Bitfury untangles CoinJoin? Wow! Good that finally someone exposes Greg Maxwells broken design. Even better that Evan Duffield fixed that broken design over 2 years ago with major improvements making it bulletproof, creating a reliable, peer-reviewed technology named PrivateSend that is tested and unbroken as of now, what you regularly fail to address, since it means admission of defeat. See above for reference. Meanwhile Dash "collapsed" from 7 to 13 Dollars, while iCEY's hole is prolapsing faced with the embarrassing wrongness of his "predictions" from months, years ago and the irrefutable superiority of our project. Yes, Bitfury's upcoming Crystal Blockchain project, when applied to Dash's comparatively low volume ledger, will easily unravel all the tx ever made using DarkSend or whatever it's being called now. So I can see why you're being so nasty, upset, and unstable, but it's better if you stay objective and don't get so emotionally involved with investments. Here is the evidence you requested of Dash/Darkcoin community hype for DNM adoption.

Maybe he accumulate when the price was 0.003, now he has tripled the btc worth of holding. Maybe it was even earlier. You can thank Bitcoin Core for crippling Bitcoin's ability to scale for motivating me to take a look at alt coins. Felons moving to Monero Mountain? Well, there goes the neighborhood. It was nice while it lasted.

Now mining only 13 blocks on average per day, with the new diff increase i'll be lucky if i do 10...
What kinda hardware do you do that with? I have a gtx 980. I wonder if I could ever get any blocks with that. I remember in 2011 when I could have mined Bitcoins but would 'only' get one or two a week. They were only worth a few dollars each so it really wasn't worth my time.

wtf? time to buy ads on sputniknews! j/k dinosaur media (wsj/forbes/nyt) will be chattering about XMR in the 9/4 Sunday paper.

How about take a challange ICEhole and show how broken DASH is?
OK, sure. What about cryptocurrency X/Y/Z? I heard they can mix/join/ninja vanish. Bitcoin mixers (even coinjoin) are not enough to maintain transaction unlinkability. Not to mention the Bitcoin blockchain data is currently being mined and sold to law enforcement. Dash's supernodes could collude to reveal who you are.http://monero7tukbkxn57.onion/

Dash's me-too, so-called "DAO" doesn't work at all, because it is vaporware. If it was working, it would quickly fall to the same adversaries that destroyed ETH's DAO. But unlike ETH's DAO, nobody would really notice or care. Is it me or is this the umpteenth time Dash/Dark/whatevercoin has done a "me-too" type feature addition/etc? Wasn't the last one the "oh look we can change our block size and fork effectively"? Previous to that i'm sure there were others...care to refresh my memory? Xcoin: me-too ASIC resistance Darkcoin: me-too darknet privacy Dash: me-too instant transactions DAO: me-too smart contracts

This is quite a development among sellers. I would have thought that they would switch slowly to XMR instead of doing it right away. I have a question. Let us say I am a seller in the darknet. I now hold XMR in my wallet and would like to cash out some into BTC. So I transfer some to Shapeshift. Will my transactions be traced by snoopers online? What would be a secure, anonymous way to trade XMR to BTC online? http://BitSquare.iodecentralized xmr <-> btc

It may surprise you but I am a member of the UK Labour Party. UK government are about to make a big push into crypto. Last month I met with John McDonnell (shadow chancellor of the exchequer) in Liskeard, Cornwall on the “New Economics Forum” and we talked on these issues. We do that sort of thing here, Keep checking the world news. It's happening. End of October.
Wow, an actual in-the-wild (albeit self-indentified) Labour member, right here on BitcoinTalk of all places! No wonder your initial posts triggered me so! Are you a Corbynite? What do you think about Jeremy demolishing the party and remaking it in his own image? Did you know he's a radical (not very crypto) Marxist? Are you a Fabian also? How are you not terrified by the prospect of crypto enabling financial sovereignty? Don't you realize that halts your long march through western institutions and quashes your dreams of enforced equality of outcomes? No idea WTF I'm talking about? Watch this, it's a deep dive but well worth it, especially if you haven't been keeping up and require remedial background. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZDwDroAMeE

Dash developement isn't for darknet. You should use Monero in the darkside. Privatesend target is not darkside transation like Monero. Privatesend used to be called Darksend. There's no difference except in the branding; both names refer to the exact same broken Coinjoin implementation that was denounced by the inventor of the protocol Greg Maxwell. When we apply your logic combined with Justus Ranvier's, the conclusion that Dash is useless ensues. IE: Only the Black Market Matters By Justus Ranvier https://bitcoinism.liberty.me/only-the-black-market-matters/This can not be emphasized strongly enough: the underground economy employed half the world’s workers as of 2009, and is growing rapidly.
Every time a new startup launches, or a new software project announces, ask one question: “Does this new thing improve the black market?”
If the answer to this question is “no”, then the thing is useless.
So bring on the money laundering, tax evasion, drug marketplace, and unregulated taxi service software. Anyone who isn’t actively working to expand and empower the informal economy is wasting their time. Dash isn’t actively working to expand and empower the informal economy. Therefore, Dash is useless and Dash devs/cheerleaders are wasting their time. Q. E. D.

I'm curious how a currency like XMR is allowed to trade on Polo. How can they comply with KYC and AML given the fundamentals of XMR?
Western union accepts cash. Ba Dum Tss! We live in a crazy world where financial privacy is considered a crime. Monero is a tiny voice against this truly absurd mantra. The ultimate heresy against the religion of statism is Sovereign Individuality, which is empowered by the financial sovereignty Monero enables. If we don't get them first, the statists will burn us all at the stake. For The Greater Good ®, of course....
