161  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-03] Economist: Bitcoin Futures Killed the 2017 Bull Run on: July 04, 2018, 07:29:33 AM
I am not sure that is the case. Even if no BTC changes hands in the futures markets, they can lead the BTC markets. If I open a big short position in the futures market and drive the price down, the BTC spot market will follow. Arbitrageurs would see the price difference and try to bridge the gap, driving down the price of Bitcoin in the spot market.

do you know what a futures market is

My, my. Such arrogance and ignorance don’t go well together.

This doesn't apply to cash-settled futures markets. Cash-settled = real arbitrage is impossible. You can set up hedge trades to profit from the price gap between markets, but there's no way to withdraw BTC from the futures side. So, there's no additional supply being dumped on the spot markets.

If contracts require delivery in BTC (supposedly this is how the ICE contracts will work), then I could see them affecting spot markets because it will be a legitimate avenue for investors/traders to buy actual bitcoins. That means real demand meeting real supply, and real arbitrage.

It doesn’t really matter whether the contract is cash settled or settled by delivery, as long as (this is a crucial assumption) you are able to execute a transaction in the spot market for the settlement price, at the settlement time. That is the reason why cash settled contracts exist. Think about it - it doesn’t matter whether I get 5 bitcoins delivered to me in the futures market, or X $, with which I can buy 5 bitcoins. The arbitrage trades still hold good.

Yes it does and this should make it more easier for the common folks, for the guy saying it has a partnership with apple, i hate to say it but its not but good luck to the team its a big step towards a successful venture.

Yes, it definitely is a big step forward. It is not easy to convince Apple to host your wallet software, especially in the crypto space. A lot of other wallets, including Coinomi, had to struggle before getting on to the iStore. Many others have just stopped trying.

Most awaited series is going to start from today between India vs England. Today is the first T20 match between both the teams and India would be wanting to start this series with the win. It will be a tough series where both team have some good players but the home ground support will be an advantage for England.
Indian players are in a tremendous form especially batsman it's a tough job for Kohli to pick 7 batsmen in a squad everyone is giving there best. England also in the same form i think we see big fight b/w these two teams the best team will win this match. My guess is India will take lead in this series.

The match remained one-sided. India easily defeated England; I didn't expect England to lose this easily. English team started to bat very comfortably and at around 50 runs for 1 (within first five overs), they were looking good with the batting average of 10 runs per over. However, then the wickets started to fall so easily and Kuldeep Yadav succeeded in picking up 5 wickets.

India could manage only 159/8 in their twenty overs. This was not expected to challenge India, but KL Rahul and Co really toyed with the England bowling. KL Rahul completed his century in jus5 54 balls. Fantastic strike rate, even by T20 standards.

If people (and let's remember: everyone has access to the BTC market) buy Bitcoin up, and these official financial system futures markets got the market sentiment wrong, what are CME or CBOE gonna do, tell everyone they have to give the Bitcoin back to make it right again? Cheesy

This also ignores the most crucial fact from the BTC futures contracts that exist on exchanges in the official markets: no BTC ever changes hands, they're not settling in BTC or directly participating in the Bitcoin market in any way (or at least not publicly). That means they must follow the real markets, they cannot lead the BTC market.

I remember at the beginning of the start of the coin, there was a lot of attention to this project in the community. Then with constant hands the price kept falling and people cooled down a bit to the project. Now perhaps the very moment to buy a lot of coins, perhaps very soon will be the growth of the entire market. Smiley

A lot has changed since the initial days - the primary one being that the airdrops have ended. The airdrops created hype and got people into the project. Now there is a lot of development happening in Byteball, but it doesn't seem to have caught the market's fancy.
166  Economy / Economics / Re: Becoming wealthy and social responsibility on: July 01, 2018, 04:42:57 PM
While I don't have many posts. I got involved in Bitcoin in 2013 and joined this forum in 2014. While I do not consider myself wealthy from Bitcoin yet. I do have an idea of how I would like to direct some of this new found wealth. I think most of the people who got involved early got involved for the right reasons. IE: To change the world and move humanity out of the control of the bankers. I am concerned that the new people coming may only be in to make money. I hope I am wrong, I really want this technology to be a force of good in the world and deliver economic freedom to the masses and the unbanked. My hope is everyone who was early, has some idea in mind that will help others. Maybe help your family, or a charity that you think isn't wasting money, or building a community swimming pool etc. If you have a lot of money think big and how you can change the world for the better. This is our chance!

Becoming wealthy and socially responsible, I think I'll get more money and get involved in charity, if I feel good, then why not help people who just started their jobs in bitcoin.
In my society wealthy people do not help the poor, because they think if they help the poor in their financial problems and they become rich their value will be zero because rich people are being respected everywhere in this community. They have no social responsibility. Besides this poor propel help each other because they are from the same society and brotherhood.

The wealthy people play a role in society, irrespective of whether they help the poor directly or not. They still pay their taxes and that's what pays for all the public goods. It would be nice if they went further and took some social responsibility, but even otherwise it is fine.

1st match of tri-series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan will begin in about 6 hours. This one will probably be one-sided and Pakistan should be able to win easily, however, the next match between Pakistan and Australia will surely be very interesting.

Yup, Pakistan is an unpredictable team but they should be able to easily beat Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe have failed in the recent past to even qualify for the ODI World Cup. They finished behind Afghanistan. They have a new captain, who will try to get the team back into order.
168  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-29] Polish Bitcoin Association Challenges Banks Over Crypto Account Ref on: July 01, 2018, 08:08:48 AM
This is strange. I thought that the rules will be harmonized across the EU.
There are some companies like CoinFloor from the UK who used polish banks because they were more receptive to cryptocurrency transactions. So it does seem strange that Polish banks are closing down accounts.
169  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-26]Ethereum (ETH): Losing 50% Against Bitcoin Since Last Summer on: June 28, 2018, 07:04:40 PM
You can draw varied interpretations based on the time period you analyse. If you go back 2 years instead of 1, you will conclude that ETH has had a stupendous run against Bitcoin. The interim high of 0.15 BtC is not what you should be looking at. A couple of years back it was worth less than 0.01 BTC.

Wish byteball would have ICO, As ICO owners are always the most winners because coins are cheaper before they go to the market and they also give a bonus. and when coins rise most, it is time to first go to the market. the best ICOs are ICOs created by whale groups.

Byteball is already trading on a lot of exchanges. It is too late to wish for an ICO.  Grin
That said, the airdrop in the initial days is one main reason why Byteball attracted a lot of hype and new users.

Match between WI vs SL is going neck to neck sort till now. After the end of day 2 SL where 99/5 and still trail by 105 runs. So near about SL will reach this target or may be little short of it and if rain continues to disturb the match than it may end in the draw as well.

Even if rain plays the spoilsport, I believe that there will be a result to this match. The pitch heavily favors the pace bowlers and both the Sri Lankan and West Indian pacers have received support from the pitch.

Yup we surely get a result in this test match, Day 3 stumps Sri Lanka need 63 runs to win this match but they have only 5 wickets in hand. I know it's not a big score to chase but in this pitch scoring 63 runs is also very tough. Look WI got all out in 2nd innings just for 93 runs.

According to me, SL has a chance to win this match but i am not sure 100%. Day 4 will be very thrilling let's see who will win.

Sri Lanka just lost one more wicket before chasing the target down on the fourth day. A margin of four wickets for victory is a lot, especially in a low scoring match. Kusal and Dilruwan Perera did the job for Sri Lanka, stitching together a good partnership. West Indies did exert pressure, but it was insufficient to get quick wickets.
172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT REHAB FOR CRYPTO ADDICTS on: June 25, 2018, 08:52:33 PM
I'm surprised it's not more prevalent, and it probably actually is.

It combines a multitude of things people are already addicted to in isolation - internet, gambling, social media. Put them together and it's an extremely potent combo.

That said, you can have the combination of all those things in equities as well. With leveraged derivatives, the volatility could easily exceed that of cryptocurrencies. Gamblers will be gamblers; if they didn't bet on cryptocurrencies, they would bet on football or horses.
173  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-25] Controversial Tether Releases $250 Millions in USDT on: June 25, 2018, 08:33:21 PM
The price has indeed rebounded since yesterday. Unfortunately, the tether dark clouds continue to hang over Bitcoin's recovery. It would be best if this tether bubble gets pricked once and for all. If tether crashes in value for even some time, it will go into a spiral it cannot recover from.

I was disappointed with Australia's performance yesterday. They had the perfect opportunity to win at least one match and save their dignity. But Rashid got stuck in there for a good 60 minutes or so and allowed Jos Buttler to score the winning runs.

England will be delighted with whitewashing Australia 5-0. Even without Warner and Smith, I would have expected Australia to perform better than this. 205 was not a fighting total, but Australia should have won after they reduced England to 50/5. Full marks to buttler for taking his side home.
175  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is the attack "51%" legal? on: June 24, 2018, 11:37:26 AM
You do not have to double-spend or carry out a 51% attack on Bitcoin to undermine the confidence people place in it. If you have the capability to do so, threats will probably have the same impact. I doubt if that can be labelled illegal under existing laws.
176  Economy / Speculation / Re: Markets and ambitions on: June 24, 2018, 11:25:42 AM
Technical analysis doesnt work all the time. I would suggest to hold your coin when the price is low and sell it when it is high rather than depend on technical analysis because if technical analysis does not work than you have to take the burden.

Technical analysis is just a tool which people use, which is based on the past behaviour of asset prices. Your logic would work very well if people knew whether a particular price is a 'high' or a 'low'. When the price reached $7000 last month, would you have concluded that it is a high or a low? If you had concluded that it was a low, your MTM would be negative now.

Do anyone know that  when distribution rounds will be ended?
I want to know seriously

Which distribution rounds do you mean? If you mean the rounds where you got coins for holding Bytes then this distribution is already over since a couple of months. Currently there are several campaigns for receiving Bytes like inviting friends, crunching tasks by providing processing power, receiving cash back of Bytes for purchases and doing an identification on Byteball dag.

Couple of months back? I think the last distribution was in November 2017, almost 8 months back.
If you are talking about crunching tasks on WCG, that distribution has been paused as well (although that has more to do with WCG's privacy policy than Byteball).
178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: June 23, 2018, 10:01:24 PM
West Indies have made a very bad start to their test match against Sri Lanka. They have been reduced to 46/4 before tea. Although rain interruptions made it difficult to concentrate and the pitch became helpful to Sri Lankan seamers, I would have expected West Indies to play better.
179  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-06-23] CNBC Holds “Funeral” For Bitcoin, Brian Kelly Says Bitcoin is Still on: June 23, 2018, 08:08:30 PM
We periodically have obituaries and funerals conducted for cryptocurrencies. They always try to reason out why "this time" is different. The only surprising thing was that such stories went missing in 2017. They would have looked foolish to try and publish such things in a bull rally.
Now, they are back with a vengeance.

I see that again and again there are people here who claim that Byteball should be not be listed in Gigabytes in exchanges since this would be harming the price, because investors would perceive the high cost of one Gigabyte very expensive. I have always been against the "tactical" idea of scaling down the official unit of measurement just for the purpose to benefit the price. Tony has always stated that he is not interested in the price but in the distribution of the coin, and I have always agreed on that.

But then, I've also seen Byteball listed in Gigabytes on Coinmarketcap and something has suddenly clicked in my mind.
The fact that Byteball is measured in Gigabytes is not a problem because this is harming its price.

The fact that Byteball is measured in Gigabytes is a problem because it is crucially violating Byteball's mission number one: to achieve mass adoption.

It is an interesting argument, but the real focus is not just widespread distribution of Byteball, but widespread adoption. If you do shift the unit of listing at exchanges to MegaBytes or KiloBytes, you would have more people buying. The problem is that most of them will be speculators with no motive of trying to use bytes.

Who's using it now?

https://byteball.fr/heartbeat.php

There's maybe a few transactions per minute on average, every node that matters is operated by one person, and the trading volume is only $100k per day (no one is even speculating on it). I don't really see how it can degrade the situation much at this point.

It definitely will not degrade the situation. I was just trying to see if the logic of changing the denomination would increase adoption (and not speculative buyers). It is not that straightforward, but worth a shot. It would be pretty easy for Tony and co to implement it as well.
