481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 13, 2018, 06:52:18 PM
I noticed Byteball has a free lottery on Facebook, giving away 3 x 5 MBYTE.

I have another Giveaway idea:
Start a giveaway in which every Bitcointalk account which has earned at least 10 Merit points can claim x MBYTE (exclude accounts with red trust to limit (Merit) abusers).
The value of "x" can be decided by Tony. If x = 10, it may cost 10 GBYTE per month tops (for 1000 users). That's several orders of magnitude cheaper to reach new users than the airdrop to Bitcoin holders. Optionally, x could be higher for highly rated users.
This giveaway can be promoted by signature campaign (I've suggested this before), which could be paid in Blackbytes (to promote usage) from the community fund.

There's more than 300,000 GBYTE left to distribute, this giveaway would cost less than 0.01% of this.

Please share your thoughts on this!

The idea of the airdrop was to get users interested in Byteball and attract new users to Byteball. I was not aware of the lottery on Facebook.
Rewarding accounts with merits might not be helpful in attracting new users. Plus you would have to ask members to claim the give away, by installing a wallet. Too much hassle for $5 worth of a coin.
482  Economy / Economics / Re: Map of the internet in 1973, or why Bitcoin will be worth $millions on: February 13, 2018, 06:46:23 PM
That is it, the internet in all it's glory, dated as old as 1973. In this historic document, you can see the entire network in a piece of paper.

Back then most people would have said it would never scale, the idea of everyone on the planet connected to the internet was absurd. Similarly, assorted scammers and short sighted morons claim Bitcoin will never scale (as they sell you some shitcoin claiming that is the one that will scale in order to steal your hard earned BTC from you).

Just put things into perspective. This is a long term race. Bitcoin protocol is TCP/IP, secondary layers like LN are HTTPS. We will scale and and we will be all over the world. Beware of scammers claiming otherwise, specially when they sell you some altcoin.

This might be true and Bitcoin might scale to become the preferred currency of choice in the future. But this doesn't tell us that Bitcoin will be worth millions. The internet might be ubiquitous today, but those who were on the internet in 1973 aren't billionaires now. Those who are billionaires are the ones who built second generation applications on top of the internet.

From some time now we will have another interesting match between India vs SA. India requires to win 1 match out of the 2 to win the series and SA would like to win both to equal the series. SA will be high with confidence with the last win and Devillers back in the side.

SA won the toss and opt to bowl first, But they made wrong decssion Indian batsman are rocking today. skipper out but today Rohith is rocking. he just needs 11 runs to complete his century. Still 19 overs left so can we expect one more double ton from Rohith today. because when he will cross 100 runs margin he will go with only big hits. I think today India will make 350+ runs. now the score is 176/3.

Two out of the three wickets to fall can be credited to Rohit Sharma. His running between the wickets is atrocious. He has scored his century and has the responsibility to take India to a high score, given that he has run out Kohli and Rahane. India look set to score 300+ on this pitch, although at one point they would have been looking at 330-340.
484  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-13] Internet Giant GMO Plans Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash Cloud Mining Launch on: February 13, 2018, 01:14:26 PM
It is interesting to note that traditional corporate giants are getting into cloud mining, but the ticket size seems to be too large at $5Mn.People who have $5Mn might be ready to actually invest in mining rigs and mine on their own. It is for the smaller ticket transactions that cloud mining contracts appear attractive.
485  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 12, 2018, 06:17:08 AM

I am not believing that number. I guess instead of getting pictures next to huge piles of drugs and money they can just say "we found 20 million bitcoins on his computer".

I think if there was real evidence to support that number Brian Krebs would have mentioned it

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/02/u-s-arrests-13-charges-36-in-infraud-cybercrime-forum-bust/#more-42484

I don't believe that number, but IF it's true removing those coins from the market until an auction could pump the price. It took 9 months before they started auctioning the Silk Road coins. They take along time to organize an auction.

The circulating coin supply must be much smaller than the mined coin supply.

Those coins anyway wouldn't have hit the market, if they wouldn't have been seized. They probably would have been safely sitting on his computer and would have been sold in very small quantities, as and when he needed money. So no big difference in price if the feds take their own sweet time to organize an auction and sell those coins.
486  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-11] J.P. Morgan: Crypto ‘Unlikely To Disappear’, Says Internal Report on: February 12, 2018, 06:06:29 AM
JP Morgan simply refuses to speak in one voice on cryptocurrencies. Dimon seems to have a view of his own, while has research team has another. Sometimes, spokepersons seem bent on running down bitcoin, Dimon threatens to fire employees who trade cryptos, they refuse to buy Bitcoin on behalf of their customers. And now a research report appears bullish on cryptos!
487  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-11] Binance Vs. McAfee: Hack Rumors Controversy on: February 11, 2018, 11:21:28 PM
Binance has grown from a fledgling exchange to one of the biggest players in the cryptoworld, in a short span of less than a year. It has of course benefited from the ban on exchanges in mainland China, which has resulted in all customers migrating to offshore exchanges. It may not be Mt Gox, but a hack at Binance would impact the Bitcoin ecosystem significantly.
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 11, 2018, 10:47:47 PM
Each user on Cryptopia has their own Byteball deposit address. So in order to exclude them, Byteball would need a list of all of those addresses, or some successful investigative work to figure out exactly what those addresses are.
Airdrops to deposit addresses end up in your account. I've seen it happen on Bittrex too (although later Bittrex started consolidating funds into their own address to make sure they get it instead of the customer).

Most exchanges move coins once you deposit them using your deposit address. If I buy Bytes on an exchange, it is highly unlikely that it will be present at my deposit address. I will just have an entry in the exchange's internal ledger, stating that I own a certain number of Bytes. I certainly will not benefit from any airdrop.

The 2nd one match between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, after losing the first match Zimbabwe came back strongly in the second match scored 333/5 in 50 overs. Brendon Tylor with 125 runs and Raza also played aggressive knock for his 92 runs. Hope Zimbabwe win this match to level the series by 1-1.

They managed to do more than win it. Zimbabwe thrashed Afghanistan by 154 runs. Afghanistan could only manage to bat for 30 overs. Brendan Taylor's century set the tone and Zimbabwe didn't set a foot wrong after that.
490  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: India and Bitcoins on: February 10, 2018, 01:09:34 PM
There are unconfirmed reports that India is considering a ban on Bitcoin. To be sure, there has been a lot of FUD about Bitcoin before in India, but it has been unsubstantiated. The only thing that the government has done is to 'warn' people about the risks of using cryptocurrencies. It has also unleashed the taxman on those who evaded taxes.

491  Economy / Speculation / Re: Financiers ‘keep skills sharp’ by trading cryptocurrencies on: February 10, 2018, 12:44:35 PM
While there are big similarities to other financial markets the cryptocurrency market still performs highly differently and many experienced traders will get burned. They're not prepared for the volatility of the market and they haven't had the experience that many long term bitcoiners have had. They've seen all the dips and falls many times over.

Your part time dabbling in cryptocurrencies cannot be compared to the experience of a long-term trader. You might make more money occasionally, but if I were to trust somebody with my money, it would be a financial markets trader. They can account for the volatility. What they may not (and most possibly do not) account for is the fact that these markets are unregulated and there could be blatant market manipulation.

Bangladesh lost the 2nd test match by 215 runs against SL.It is a big lose for Bangladesh.A really poor batting performance from them. They have score 112 and 123 in two innings.OTOH, SL shown a good and calm performance with the bowl and bat.SL deserve the series because they played wonderfully through out the series.

BD can't take this as bad luck, they need to improve their techniques and work on their faults.I hope Bangladesh will come back on T20 with better results.

It was a poor batting performance by Bangaldesh but the pitch was abysmally poor and not suited for test wickets. When 40 wickets fall in two and a half days, then it definitely is not an equal contest between bat and ball. Sri Lanka must be happy with this victory, given that their bowling performance was strong in both innings.
493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 10, 2018, 07:34:04 AM
Cryptopia has been locking GBYTE for at least 2 months now.

Today I filed a 2nd ticket demanding that they release users' GBYTE.

I encourage you to do the same.

Stealing the time value of money is one thing, but if we get to the March distro and Cryptopia is still locking users' funds, it will be a massive financial crime. (Yes I know exchanges are scummy and steal from users all the time).

This is really worrying. If you fail to withdraw your coins in time for the airdrop and the exchange gets the airdrop, they might still find an excuse to retain your coins. But if they prevent you from withdrawing your coins in time for the airdrop, I would call that an outright scam.
494  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-10] U.S. Marshals Auction Completes the Sale of 3,800 BTC on: February 10, 2018, 07:30:36 AM
It has taken the US marshals almost a month to complete the sale, after they announced it. In the volatile crypto world, that translates into a 50% loss in value during trade execution. They should be able to implement a better method to sell coins, rather than an anachronistic auction.
495  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 09, 2018, 06:09:46 AM
Sri Lanka have started the second test badly and have been reduced to 110/6 by Bangladesh. After a run feast in the first test, few would have expected such a dramatic collapse by Sri Lanka. 35 year old Abdur Razzak was the chief wrecker, taking 4 of the wickets to fall. Sri Lanka should ensure that they reach at least 200 so that this match can remain competitive.

Not a good start for Bangladesh either they are down for 56/4. So overall on the first day of the match itself this pitch has produced 14 wickets. And to the surprise inspite of good bowling by Bangladesh they still may fall short of  SL score if tomorrow morning they loose couple of quick wickets.

Today first session will give a clear direction who can win this match because if SL can manage to pick up wickets faster like yesterday then they may dominate this match or if Bangladesh bat without losing any more wickets this morning session then they can come back into this match and can try to win. By looking at current situation SL may be having a better chance to win the match. What you guys thing?

SL really come back strongly from bowling in this match. Bangladesh all-out for just 110 runs in first innings. Sri Lanka already started second innings batting and so far scored nine runs without losing any wickets. Sri Lanka now leading by 121 runs and still got all 10 wickets in this innings. As you said, Sri Lanka now in a good position to win this match if they can score another 200 runs in this innings.

If you thought that the first day was bad with 14 wickets falling, the second day seems to have started off in a similar fashion. This pitch is definitely going to get reported to the ICC once the match gets over (which shouldn't be long). Sri Lanka's first innings total of 222 seems to be a very good one, considering Bangladesh folded for 110. Bangladesh will have to bat last in this match, which is going to be very difficult.

Okay now I am confused a bit, I thought textcoin and this Jumio thing were the same process, but it sounds like it is not? Because I sent my friend a little bit in textcoin and he received it super quick without doing anything. Could somebody please explain to me how these two are different, cause I thought they were in the same until I saw this discussion now Grin. Thanks in advance

From my Understanding, Textcoin came before Jumio, textcoin allows you to send coins via email to anyone, hence textcoin (you already know  having used it) - Jumio deal, from my understanding, is strictly for KYC verification, the idea is that ICO's would use the GBYTE network cuz its KYC compliant, and that verified Gbyte users would have access to less spammy/scammy ICOs.

so this whole Jumio verification is so that Gbyte users can have KYC compliant ICOs... (something along those lines)

if anyone wants to clear up any confusion...

That is correct. I would also add that verification by Jumio is one of the new distribution methods. Once you are verified, you get a small amount of bytes ($20 worth, which should cover the $8 required for Jumio verification). If you refer somebody and they complete verification, you get $20 worth of byteball as well.
497  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-09] NY Regulator Demands Vigilance Against Market Manipulation from Bit on: February 09, 2018, 05:19:02 AM
The price of Bitcoin is determined by a global market. If regulators are worried about market manipulation, they should investigate and act on their findings. If they do not have jurisdiction, they can always reach out to regulators elsewhere.
The NY regulator asking the bitlicence holders to 'demand' vigilance seems to me like that the regulator is trying to palm off his responsibilities.
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: February 08, 2018, 09:10:13 PM
"See my procedure for verification that has failed many times due to users not doing the right thing is very user friendly because if you're intelligent you would have got it right and we only want technical people but we also want everyday users". If verification is so user friendly then why haven't we gotten more than ~250 Jumio attestations and why are there so many complaining about failure here and on Reddit?

Just 250 attestations? Where did you get that number? It is a dismally low figure and would indicate a failure in this method of distribution.
The air drop might be expensive, but it creates a buzz around the coin and definitely increases awareness.

A lot of these people are trying to 'talk' the market because they are significantly invested in the market. I don't think they expect a real explosion in crypto markets this year, but they really cannot take any other position. You need these kind of views, to counter the Dimons and Buffets who seem hell bent on scaring naive investors with their views.
