621  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-1-3]PayPal founder Peter Thiel is all-in on bitcoin on: January 03, 2018, 06:18:49 AM
You should give the source (a link to the article) whenever you copy paste stuff.
Going all in on Bitcoin is only something the fool hardy might try now. Peter Thiel might be able to afford to do this, given his background. For ordinary investors, it is better to take limited exposure, which they really wouldn't mind losing. My personal view is that cryptos shouldn't account for more than 5% of your portfolio.
622  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-01] Firm Faces Class Action Lawsuit for Falsely Claiming Link to Bitcoi on: January 01, 2018, 10:32:06 PM
Okay. The firm falsely claimed a link to Bitcoin. What were the investors thinking when they blindly rushed in to buy the stock? They should have done some basic due diligence. The firm might have misled them, but they cannot shake of some portion of the blame either,
623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: January 01, 2018, 07:26:22 PM
Manchester United has defeated Everton 2-0. After a goalless first half, Even when the scores were level at half time, Manchester United had a lion's share of possession and kept pushing Everton back. Paul Pogba was wonderful tonight.
624  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hey guys do you think that Bitcoin price will continue decreasing ? on: January 01, 2018, 07:19:37 PM
As we enter the new year with the Bitcoin rates playing at the range of $13,000, it will hopefully start rising as we surpass early January. I really think that the holidays had a drastic effect towards the rates of Bitcoin. As it ends, let us all hope that the trends start to change as well and it will rise to another remarkable rate. WE just have to remember that with it decline, our faith towards it should be stronger and not do impulsive actions that we might regret.

I don't see the connection between holidays and Bitcoin's price decrease. All the other altcoins seem to be surging forward, in spite of the holiday season. So the argument that bullish traders are holding out / cashing out before the holiday season doesn't seem to be consistent. If that were the case, there should have been an overall decline in most altcoins as well.
625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any new coins that you can get thousands for cheap? on: January 01, 2018, 07:25:00 AM
Hi,

Are there any coins that have recently come to light that you can buy thousands of for a small amount? A bit like COLX was a few months!

Got some small money happy to buy coins that are not mainstream at the moment but have good ideas and team.

Cheers

Don't look at the price of the coins. Look at the market cap. A coin isn't cheap if you can get thousands for a small amount, but the overall circulating supply is in trillions. If the market cap of a coin is small, there is a bound on the supply and it has interesting features, the price could rise in the future.
626  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will trade under $5,000, warns Dennis Gartman on: January 01, 2018, 07:08:20 AM
Dennis Gartman is a buffoon.

Remember his last famous prediction? "The stock market will crash when Trump gets elected".

People who listened to him once should learn their lesson.

A lot of people got it wrong about Trump's effects on the stock market. The Republican tax cuts, strong growth across the world and easy money (quantitative easing has not been rolled back fully) have triggered the bull run in stock markets.
Bitcoin seems to have far more detractors than Donald Trump.  Grin I too will discount this prediction.
627  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-01] Investors Still Wary of Bitcoin on: January 01, 2018, 06:51:48 AM
If investors are still wary of Bitcoin, then Bitcoin certainly is in the initial stages of adoption and we qualify as 'early adopters'. So there is a long way to go in terms of increased usage and increase in price! If just speculation can drive Bitcoin's price to $20k, imagine what can happen when every Tom, Dick and Harry starts using Bitcoin.
628  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-30] Crypto Exchange Poloniex to Impose Customer ID Requirements on: December 31, 2017, 09:02:58 PM
Those not able to meet the requirement deadline, Poloniex said, will have their accounts disabled, meaning they will no longer be able to deposit, trade, lend or open orders.

But they will be able to withdraw. At least they aren't planning to steal from us... yet.

That is until some instructions come from the government, about 'freezing' unverified accounts. Once that happens, they will lock your account until you identify yourself. With governments coercing most exchanges into toeing the line, decentralized exchanges will gain prominence. Or people will be pushed to trade at unregulated exchanges in exotic locations.
629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2017 is almost closed.... How was the Crypto year friends on: December 31, 2017, 07:51:06 PM
The crypto year was extremely good for everybody concerned. The price of Bitcoin has increased by almost 1400% this year. The only regret I have is that the bitterness amongst small blockers and big blockers could not be resolved. And post Bitcoin Cash's fork, we have all and sundry trying to make a quick buck by creating new forks.
630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 31, 2017, 05:39:28 PM
Could we somehow relist Byteball on coinmarketcap with the MB denomination and price... instead of GB price? A $0.8 price / MB is easier to wrap head around .. compared to $800 / GB.. Not to mention the pshychological barrier of large numbers.

byteball got to expensive. time to delete some zeros ahahaha

This has been a demand from the community for a long time. And I agree with the basis for this demand. You expect people to act rationally while investing, but they don't. This can be easily seen from the strong rally in Ripple seen during the last 2 weeks.  Grin
I do not know how easy it will be to effect this change, but it is certainly required.
631  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-28] Dancing With the Devil: ‘Cashing Out’ Cryptos Into Fiat Not So Easy on: December 31, 2017, 04:13:43 PM
That is the problem around here for those who are earning money through Bitcoin why is it hard for us to pay our taxes? Isn't it unfair for other citizens who are earning from their jobs which they also pay their taxes? We are making this a big deal but it is our obligation and our burden to pay our taxes in order for us and our country to move forward. I think the title of the news is wrong because cashing out is easy but evading taxes is harder.

It is not just about payment of taxes. It could be about harassment as well. Questions could be raised about who you got your bitcoins from and whether the payer was engaged in any illegal businesses. Such questions are not asked of people who get their salary credited into a bank account from a normal job.
632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Great News For Bitcoin! Lightening Network First Payment Was Successful! on: December 30, 2017, 06:11:26 PM
Well that is really a great news, it will probably fix some problems that Bitcoin has but the problem is the implementation, lets say they already released the mainnet of lightning network and implemented it on the Bitcoin network, all wallets and exchanges should support it first for us to experience this cheaper and faster transactions and I doubt that wallets and exchanges will immediately update their service with lightning network. Just like segwit, it was released and implemented 4 months ago but still only few Bitcoin wallet/exchanges supports it.

There is some progress towards easing network congestion, but the question is whether it is too little too late. Segwit has been implemented, but there seems to be no reduction in transaction fees. I just hope that the migration to alt coins is not irreversible. There may be a certain inertia amongst crypto users to shift back to Bitcoin.
633  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 30, 2017, 04:36:49 PM
let's change the basic unit to MB or KB ?

i think byteball reasonable valuation should be 50% of IOTA !

I think IOTA reasonable valuation should be 50% of byteball because IOTA even doesn't have a warking wallet and peoples that use it have a lot of trouble!
And I think byteball need more exchange.

Well what about the fact iota is not even able to operate in a decentralised manner right now. It has its coordinator training wheels on and they are afraid to remove them. I would find that far more worrying right now.

IOTA is an ico coin... no one really know how they really distribute the coin

byteball is better and more transparent

i hope byteball have same marketcap as iota at least!

let's hope in 2018, 1 Gbyte= 5000$

$5000 is quite possible but not so fast. I would bet that this scenario could occur in the span of 3 years. $1500 by the end of 2018 is more realistic.

Considering that it was $300 a couple of weeks back, $1500 would be a lot. In any case, if we really believe in the long term potential, we can sit tight on our coins. We could also have one round of air drop, if we are lucky.
634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forbes Magazine calls Bitcoin a "Great Scam" on: December 30, 2017, 04:00:31 PM
International magazines keep saying the same Bitcoin scam and many govt gave notice to bitcoin warnings if bitcoin reach 1 million dollars then also they will say it is scam

Does anyone on this forum actually know how to read? The author says, in plain language, that bitcoin is NOT a scam. The way bitcoin is being marketed is the scam.

The author postulates that people (like the cheerleaders on this forum and elsewhere) are presenting this computer generated number as if it has some intrinsic value. That is the scam because it’s simply not true.

Cheerleaders on this forum would have you believe that the US dollar is not backed by anything either and that is simply not true. The US dollar is backed by consumer confidence in a government with the largest military infrastructure in the world that is willing to fight to ensure its survival.

Bitcoin is backed by the belief that no one will change bitcoin at some point in the future to have more than 21m coins (which may or may not be true). They tell you that scarcity creates value. If scarcity creates value then let me sell you some of my belly button lint. It’s pretty scarce so it must be priceless.

His argument is: If you don’t fall for the “short supply makes it valuable” argument then bitcoin is just a number like any other number. It has no value.

I don’t know how to make it any more clear for you people.

The article title is nothing but click bait. Bitcoin in its current form is something which every individual can analyze and evaluate. If the way Bitcoin cheerleaders are marketing it is a scam, so is the way the detractors like Jamie Dimon go about disparaging it. The media unfortunately highlights only the extreme views of both sides.
635  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's causing this crash? on: December 30, 2017, 02:59:50 PM
Investors profiting a lot and wanting to cash out. Reduced "consumer" confidence from the bcash shittalk.

Bcash cancer. Slander campaign. Not good.

Would be tough to blame Bitcoin Cash for all the problems plaguing Bitcoin today. In any case, Bitcoin's Cash is not increasing in price. Other altcoins such as Ripple and Ethereum are increasing in price now. The only people profiting from Bitcoin's price stalling are the altcoin holders. I do not expect this situation to stay this way for long.
636  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-30] South Korea Not Ruling Out ‘Shutdown’ of Bitcoin Exchanges in the F on: December 30, 2017, 02:30:46 PM
I think the government official is trying to talk and calm down the market. A lot of people may decide to exit the market because of the official's remarks and then the government will achieve its objective of calming exuberance, without actually taking any action. Such motivated leaks and statements are a common tactic in other countries as well.
637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: December 27, 2017, 10:28:38 PM
I think for many people its a little difficult to wrap your head around Bytes, Gigabytes and Blackbytes. ITs easier if you are grounded in CS but for everyone else its not so easy. Maybe there is some easier way to express this.

You don't need to be a computer scientist to differentiate between bytes and gigabytes. You just need common sense. Unfortunately, people seem to be swayed by the face value of coins. So yes, they may be more inclined to buy coins at $0.6/mb than $600/gb.
I am not sure that there is any way to convince the exchanges to change their notation, especially since they have a ticker for GB.
638  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to make a full recovery by year end? on: December 27, 2017, 10:23:14 PM
The recovery seems to be stuttering now. We have had a great run in 2017; it would be greedy to expect it to continue without any retraces. Given that we started December with the price less than $10,000 , I don't see a great reason why we should fret over a price greater than $15,000. Even if it does take time to cross $20,000 again, we should just be patient.
639  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-27] Bitcoin Trading In China Blooms Despite Ban on: December 27, 2017, 10:10:31 PM
China has only banned exchanges, they haven't really banned bitcoin trading. If they really were worried about Bitcoin, you will see a crackdown across platforms, including peer-to-peer ones. Most people will comply with the ban just to avoid being harassed.
640  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 26, 2017, 08:52:07 PM
wtf is wrong with man united? 0-2 in the first half, if they lose in this match I don't know what to say. maybe it's time for a new manager ?

Man united were lucky to escape with a draw. All odds were against Mourinho's boys from the first whistle. Todays squad looked confused and there was no communication at all. It looked like everyone was trying to out-do his colleague. I pity for Lukaku who is now looking like someone who doesn't know what to do on the field. Mourinho needs to do something otherwise with the current competition for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, he might end up losing it out.

Manchester United will be thanking their stars that they got one point from this match. Coming back from 2-0 down is not easy, and they managed to equalize only in injury time. Their hopes of catching up with Manchester City are slowly slipping away.
