501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dark Net users as the new Threat? on: February 07, 2018, 07:07:23 AM
I think almost most of us already heard about the Bitcoin trader that was forced to give his Bitcoin over a gunpoint. It is quite scary that criminals are now also Bitcoin as their sort of "money" although it isn't stable to be. Now this made me think of something even larger that could possibly be a potential threat to  all of us. From government banning to these robbers, I'm starting to think that even those people dealing with illegal things from the dark net could be also the potential threat to all of us including those hackers that could just track you with your IP within seconds. I still don't have an experience touching the dark web, because it is really risky but I learned few things about it such as the Silk Market, snuff films, other things that are unimaginably messed up. Since Bitcoin is now growing and a lot of investors are already putting their money at risk in the cryptocurrency including all of us, will these people prove a real threat for all of us? I am not trying to raise a fear here, as I am just curious what could possibly be a threat for us aside from the government that tries to ban cryptos.

Stop being alarmistic. If you are not afraid of hackers from the clear net (Internet), then there is no reason for you to fear hackers from the dark net. Follow clear privacy and security practices, ensure that all software is updated, have a firewall and effective anti-virus in place - then you should be safe.
502  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-05] ‘It doesn't die and it comes back stronger’ on: February 07, 2018, 07:01:01 AM
We have seen in the past that price crashes have been followed by long periods of despair. Bitcoin does tend to come back stronger, but it does take time. After the crash of 2013, it took more than 3 years for the price to start recovering. If it takes longer after the crash of 2018, most of the new converts who have invested recently will do a double think on holding.
503  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is the bitcoin price going down? on: February 06, 2018, 06:20:13 AM
Indian budget yesterday came in which they use sentence " Cryptocurrency is not legal tender " and people think " not legal means illegal " but Finance Minister already said , Not legal means we are still not in position to say anything about it.

Today if i am not wrong , they cleared we will think about it. As two big trade site are working in India , Unocoin and Zebpay.

But even after this news Bitcoin did not stop its fall. It is not stable, going up and down all the time. I suppose it will last for long, at least for a month.

It is dropping sharply and I doubt if one news item could cause such a sharp drop in price. India has a marginal role in the global bitcoin market, and Bitcoin has weathered a crackdown by China and (limited) FUD from the South Korean government. I think it is a shift in investor sentiment and risk aversion in general.
504  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-03] Crypto Billionaires Are Building a Utopia In Puerto Rico on: February 06, 2018, 06:11:31 AM
These guys are morons. They should follow Satoshi's path instead of making themselves into a target for criminals and governments from all over the world. Puerto Rico must be infested with the FBI agents, so I can't really imagine how stupid these dudes are. Money loves silence, while big money loves dead silence. A low-profile and simple life is what every cryptonaire should be looking for.

They may become a target for criminals, but governments - I am not so sure. Most of these millionaires and billionaires would have highly paid lawyers who would be able to move their wealth offshore. In any case, unless you sell your bitcoins and incur capital gains, your crypto wealth really isn't taxable.
Of course, the criminals will really not care about that.  Grin
505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 05, 2018, 10:54:46 PM
Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in T20 match.Afghan bowler did their job perfectly.Zimbabwe got all out by scoring just 119 runs.So it was a very easy chase for Afghanistan.Afghan captain scored 40 runs from 27 balls only and well deserve the MOM award.Afghanistan is playing very good cricket in last few year's.I hope they will be a new strong team like Bangladesh in future.

Tomorrow the 2nd T20 will be held on Sharjah, I am expecting a strong comeback from Zimbabwe.

Afghanistan has the potential to be a very strong team, in limited overs matches. Zimbabwe have not given a good account of themselves over the past few years and Afghanistan I think are the better team currently. A total of 120 is always easily gettable in T20 matches and Afghanistan made no mistakes.
506  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC and Stock Markets are in crash mode on: February 05, 2018, 10:04:00 PM
If you happen to watch also the stock markets, in the last couple of days and especially today there was a huge crash also in US (and around the world of course). It seems that people are selling assets (crypto and stocks). Is there a correlation or not?

Gold is rising while equity markets around the world and cryptocurrencies are crashing. This kind of punches a hole in the theory that Bitcoin will be considered as some kind of digital gold. There definitely is a correlation and investors are selling risky assets because the yield on treasury bonds is increasing, making them more attractive.
507  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-05] Bitcoin dips below $8,000. India is the latest buzzkill on: February 05, 2018, 09:55:25 PM
India hasn't banned cryptocurrencies, although the government isn't too happy that they are around. Even if India did ban Bitcoin, it should have only a minuscule impact on the global price. The market is fairly insulated, as seen by the huge premium during demonetization.
So yes, it is all FUD, which the vested media is eagerly lapping up.
508  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 05, 2018, 06:21:40 AM
I can't believe that SA all out by scoring just 118 runs. But all credit goes to Indian bowler because they bowled extremely well.India just need 92 more runs to reach the winning margin.I think there is no chance of SA to get back on this match.

Indian spinners did fantastic job, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav picked 8 wickets together. SA batsman are really struggling at the moment, no one scored century in the 3 match test series. 1st ODI was also not good for SA batsman; except Duplesis, who scored a century. They are unable to take advantage of the home conditions and now the worst thing has happened, got bowled out on just 118 runs. If they continue to bat like this then India will win this series comfortably and it seems difficult for SA to bounce back in the absence of regular captain Du Plesis and ABD.
South African batsman can't play spin once again proved in the 2nd one day match, wrist spinners are doing an excellent job for India inexperienced Saf team struggling to pick Chahal and Kuldeep. With ABD injured even before the one-day series and Faf captain injured after the 1st match home team looking vulnerable in the batting department.

I am surprised that South Africa didn't prepare a green top for this match and that the pitch actually favoured spinners. Wrist spin is South Africa's weakness, it is India's strength and we can all see what happens when the pitch favours spins. South Africa may claim that its best batsmen - AB DeVIlliers and Faf duPlessis were injured, but that can't result in them getting bowled out for just 118,
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it safe to invest in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies in India? on: February 05, 2018, 06:12:12 AM
When you invest in a stock of a company there is a paper trail and your shares are securely held in your demat account. Crypto tokens, on the other hand, are stored in wallets which aren’t overseen by any central regulatory authority. Meaning you alone are responsible for the safety of it.

If your wallet, platform or an exchange is hacked there is no recourse to seek recompense. There are no investors protection funds, unlike capital markets and, hacks are common. So how do I guarantee the safety of my accounts in this case?

Convince yourself that the exchange is reasonably well-established and is not going to run away with your money overnight. Then transfer money, buy your bitcoins and transfer them to your wallet immediately. If the exchange is then hacked, you really don't care.

I would advise users of all exchanges to do this, not just the ones in India.
510  Economy / Economics / Re: How can you manage potential losses during a crash on: February 04, 2018, 09:54:16 AM
There is no reason to believe that this pattern that you claim to see will continue. It is a bad idea to base an investment strategy on it.

Not really. It is an established investment strategy to follow, in a highly volatile market with no real up/down trend. If your view is that the price is going to crash violently, or going to shoot up rapidly, it will not work. But in current volatile markets, this is a good strategy to follow. Most traders use it even in equity markets, while dealing with volatile stocks.

The test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is going to end in a dull draw. Sri Lanka had put Bangladesh in a spot of bother at the end of the fourth day, when Bangladesh were reduced to 81/3 and were still trailing Sri Lanka's total. However, they couldn't make any inroads into Bangladesh's batting line up on the fifth day, with Mominul Haque scoring a century. Bangladesh have now wiped out the deficit and i suspect both captains will agree for a draw and end the match early.
512  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-03] Cisco Systems will hire BlockChain expert on: February 04, 2018, 06:38:28 AM
That's interesting, Cisco wants to get on the blockchain bandwagon, like all other companies, lol.

It actually is good that existing players are also looking at taking advantage of the disruptionary features of blockchain. If you think about it, Cisco's hardware businesses of routers and networking equipment are not directly under threat from blockhain-based prototypes. Still, to maintain its market leadership it must be aware of latest developments in the market (including blockchain) which might pose a threat.
513  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Should we pay taxes on Bitcoin? on: February 03, 2018, 07:45:43 PM
Bitcoin was created to liberate us from corrupt governments and corporations that serve their own needs. The coinbase transaction in the genesis block, mined by Satoshi Nakamoto contained: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for bank". What is your opinion on paying taxes on Bitcoin? The government most likely doesn't know my bitcoin address. Even if they do find it, based on the transactions made from my bank account to exchanges, I could simply say someone stole the private key from me. Many of the posts here asking for help on filing taxes on their Bitcoin make no sense to me. We have a system that allows complete financial freedom and yet people choose to pay their taxes from it and support crooked governments.

If you are not satisfied with the government, not paying taxes definitely is not the way to go about changing it. If you are guilty of tax evasion, there could be big fines and prison time waiting for you if you get caught. You may think that the government may not be able to catch you, but it is just not worth the risk.
514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 03, 2018, 07:00:11 PM

NZ is struggling to make score they lost 8 wickets just for 118 runs only 4 balls left. The target is very less, and AUS can chase this target easily. So AUS will win this game.

Are you sure that you saw 118 runs? Because the final score from NZ is 117 runs and they lost 9 wickets. Another surprising thing in this match NZ has scored only 3 fours and 4 sixes in 20 overs. Which is something not normal in this short format games.

Now match delayed due to wet outfield and expected to start match soon. I think it will be an easy target for Australia because the required run rate is less than six runs in 20 overs which are considered an easy target in T20 games.

Australia had to face a reduced target of 95 in 15 overs, under the Duckworth and Lewis method. They achieved it easily, beating New Zealand by 7 wickets and more than 3 overs to space. Targets of under a run a ball, especially in a shortened match are easy pickings for today's T20 specialists. Both Lynn and Maxwell scored 40+ runs to get Australia home.
515  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [03-02-2018] Bitcoins losing currency on Budget warning on: February 03, 2018, 12:39:45 PM
While the Indian premium on Bitcoin may disappear after such warnings, it is unlikely that this will have an impact on global Bitcoin's price. India may have the second largest population in the world, but it is too small in the crypto market. You cannot expect governments which want high degrees of control to allow the proliferation of decentralized currencies.
516  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-02] Bitcoin's Brutal Week Is Even Worse in South Korea on: February 02, 2018, 10:59:15 PM
Some kind of pain is bound to occur when the irrational exuberance ends. At least now the South Korean government can stop losing sleep over how the crypto craze is affecting its general population and whether any tough measures are required. The drop in prices has been as drastic as the rise to the top.
517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: February 01, 2018, 09:29:02 PM
One day series between India vs South Africa started, in the 1st ODI Saf won the toss and elected to Bat first, lost the wicket of Hashim Amla but Decock and Faf Duplessis playing well. After 12 overs Saf scored 59/1. India needs to restrict Saf well within 280 or else it will be very difficult to chase especially under lights in Durban.

SA have lost 5 wickets now with score on board just 138 in 30 overs. Duplesis is only hope for them as he is playing well and reached 55 and somebody will require to stand on the pitch and complete 50 overs of full quota. On other hand Indian spinners is bowling well as their is some assistance for spinners from the pitch. SA should reach 200+ to put some fight in this match.

They are already on 200 now and with ten overs remaining, we can expect anywhere around 275-290 provided they don't lose many wickets in the end and Duplessis plays till the last over.

Fav to the rescue what a magnificent innings under pressure he's put life back in this game and now it's a good contest. Africa have all the advantages in their favour, and if they're able to nick a few wickets here and there team India is under serious pressure, ms is no longer the finisher so Kohli will again have to step up
Current Score is not good enough for South Africa as they fail to give good competitive target now India need some good stable inning from top order for win first ODI pitch is going with batsmen and I sure they are capable of doing this target which is going to start just now
Yes the target is not big, and it is achievable. Nobody supported to the captain suppose if any of 2 top order batsman supported means the target may cross 300 runs. But captain batted well and scored a century. Now India started to bat and made 25 runs in 5 overs with no loss. India has a chance to win this game if they do not lose wickets at an early stage.

India won the match comfortably in the end with 6 wickets left. Kohli made 112 and Rahane 79 which changed the whole course of the game. Both of the batsman batted well and timed the ball beautifully . MOM was Kohli for his amazing 100 once again.
Yes the Indian team done great job there they are won the match after 7 years, the Yong Indian team done good job Kohli made is 33ton at south Africa and Rahane looking great at batting so the both are made to India to win the match.

Virat Kohli seems to excel in these tough chases. People may debate his leadership skills and the influence he has on the team, but his batting skills are unparalleled. Yet again, he proved it as his 112 was sufficient to eclipse  du Plessis's 120 and help India take the lead in the ODIs.

Basically they are linking their method same as the bank do in order to prove that their client their dealing is a legit one, and is capable of producing income in a legal basis, I mean if you are not into something suspicious or illegal activities then why should you be afraid of covering up your identity, you shouldn't be wary of something like this.

You have totally misunderstood the question here - it is not whether you should submit proof of identity to the service providers, but whether there are any safeguards in place to protect your data.
Even if you have 'nothing to hide', your personal data (say passport copy) could be used to impersonate you. Data protection laws exist to ensure that companies are held liable if they are careless with personal information.
520  Other / Meta / Re: Merit - Why every member should have started with a clean slate on: February 01, 2018, 05:04:11 AM
I think the intention of Merit system is good. But unfortunately I do feel that the idea to award a merit count equal to the minimum required for the respective rank to all members was probably not the right decision.

Why? Because, according to me, Merit count on any profile should reflect the quality of the posts made by that person, but actually it is NOT, here its also a function of account longevity.

Meaning of Merit as per legitimate sources;

"the quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward."

I understand there are plenty of senior members (especially active in this Meta) who deserve every single merit they have but there could have been another method to award Merits retrospectively.

It might not be a perfect system, but it will work in combating spam. Over time, the number of accounts with merits which were air-dropped will decrease and there will be a steady state. You might feel that old timers have an advantage, but that is true in all walks of life.

The appearance of Merit makes it difficult for many people to upgrade their grades!

That is the idea.  Smiley
