[DONE]. Congratulations! Great service. Could probably make a living with using it if I really wanted to. Now we have changed the name of the escrow feature to "LocalBitcoins Transaction" or just "Transaction" where the connection is obvious. We changed the name because it is not actually escrow service by the traditional definition, no disputes or resolution services.
Other definitions:
"Transaction verify code": this is generated for the buyer. When the seller shows this code to the buyer, buyer can be 100% that funds have been released. The buyer should check that the code shown by the seller matches the code shown by localbitcoins.com
"Transaction release code": the seller can release the escrow by sending this code to the number +16466994674 . This releases the funds to the buyer, and the seller should receive the verify code promptly, which he/she can show to the buyer.
The benefits of the service are:
- No internet connection needed - only one SMS-enabled phone required to make the transaction on the spot
- Quick process - the buyer does neet any devices, just memorize/write down the transaction verify code
- Allows the users to gain reputation via confirmed trades. If users use this service, we have a way to confirm that trade actually happened.
The LocalBitcoins Transaction service is not enforced in any way. You are free to create any kind of deal with the customer, use smartphone clients, laptops, whatever. We just recommend to use the transaction feature when the customer requests it - it should make the process much easier for the buyer.
Edit: and sorry about the confusion/hassle caused by the name.
"Transaction" is also a term that has already been reserved by the Bitcoin system itself unfortunately. I always have trouble explaining folks that there is something like an escrow which actually isn't but used to be termed that way on that site but now isn't anymore and it's not the same escrow for online trading etc... So I lately use the term "mediation" or "mediation process" or "transaction mediation process". It's the least ambiguous.  |

It's mainly bullish.
I like to compare alt coins to those little fish eating excess skin of a whale to keep it healthy. At first people tend to use alt coins for day trading when there is not enough volatility to do it with Bitcoins. Then what people do is hedge the dips with altcoins rather than dollars making them less steep.
The real market cap (in terms of actual currency invested rather than circulation times price) of alts is a sub-set of BTC. And since alts are pegged to BTC one has to buy Bitcoins first in order to trade for alt coins.
All in all alt-coins give an additional incentive to trade Fiat Money for Bitcoins.

-ripple: ich versteh es zwar nicht, aber die marktkapitalisierung von ripple/xrp ist inzwischen größer als die von bitcoin. wenn all dieses geld in bitcoin gegangen wäre, dann wäre der kurs heute doppelt so hoch.
nee das is glaub ich eine milchmädchenrechnung. ich hab niemals nie nich xrps gekauft, aber trotzdem sind die, die ich dereinst per giveaway bekommen hab, inzwischen an die tausend euro wert. theoretisch könnte dieser marktwert dadurch zustande gekommen sein, indem es jemals nur eine einzige transaktion gab, weil ein einziger mal gemeint hat, xrps zu kaufen und dementsprechend viel auszugeben. diese letzte transaktion würde dann den aktuellen kurswert bestimmen. sicher wurde schon öfter als das gehandelt, aber man kann nicht sagen, dass hier 'ne milliarde usd in ripple geflossen sind, die ansonsten in bitcoin geflossen wären. |

Wenn Bitcoin wachsen soll, muss das leider zwangsläufig auch die Kiddie-Gequatsche-Zielgruppe mit einbeziehn.
Es ist in der Tat wieder viel ruhiger hier und auf reddit.com/r/bitcoin als beim letzten Medien-Hype vor zwei Monaten. Aber doch viel lebendiger als etwa ein Jahr zuvor.
Möglicherweise ist die "Korrektur" lange noch nicht abgeschlossen. Der Kurs ist für das erwartete durchschnittliche Wachstum sicherlich gerade noch ziemlich überbewertet, trotzdem heißt das nicht, dass er abstürzen wird; er kann sich seitlich bewegen, bis die durchschnittliche Wachstumskurve wieder erreicht ist. Ich erwarte allerdings auch eine leichte Bewegung nach unten in den nächsten Monaten.
Theoretisch könnte das alles wunderbar selbstregulierend sein, denn wenn der Kurs fällt, steigen auch die Anreize, die Bitcoins mal auszugeben und zu verkaufen, wodurch sie an Neueinsteiger verteilt werden, und auch ganz neue Kreise erschlossen werden könnten. Dadurch steigt der Netzwerkeffekt, was dann auf lange Sicht wieder zu Wachstum führt.
Auf ganz lange Sicht wird die Kursentwicklung wohl immer durch plötzliche ruckartige Wachstumsphasen gekennzeichnet sein als durch langsames kontinuierliches Wachstum.

What's the difference Either way, banking today doesn't work like that anymore, as money is created by handing out credit. If you published this book in some former times, you might get into quite some trouble, as interest equals usury...  Even Islamic Banking allows mediating loans and savings with fees (aka "interest"). Maybe a more modern circumscription of the term "usury" would be socialism for the rich, i.e. the rich lobby that they don't have to carry the appropriate risk for their investments, i.e. they can privatize profits but socialize losses. I'm not too sure if this relates 100% to Bitcoin, as it talks about made-up money and some theories behind I thought it might be interesting and also might help some discussions about Bitcoins. For example, how would they fit into the book's description of "money"?
