1601  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a 1btc loan... on: December 01, 2013, 01:42:44 AM
Things have changed, here, sadly.
You may wanna explain why you need this loan, what collateral you can escrow during that time, etc.

Yep, with the significant rise in scams on this board it's probably best if you see if you can find some sort of collateral (maybe some LTC) for this loan (as it's considered to be rather large at the moment with BTC at ~$1K). I know that Tomatocage doesn't have too many issues with loaning if you have LTC collateral, just have to wait for him to pop up.

For some reason every now and again when I try to login I get the following error message:

More information is available with DEBUG=True.

I would appreciate it if you could look into this for me.

Thanks.
1603  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to easily increase your BTC by trading! on: December 01, 2013, 12:11:37 AM
Well with such volatility it is very easy to lose your coins if you make a poor decision when you trade. It depends on your level of confidence in your own decision making skills as to whether you should be trading cryptos.
1604  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens to "lost" bitcoins? on: November 30, 2013, 11:48:44 AM
Actually they *are* lost. If you lose your private key, nobody else will be able to spend them anymore.
So, their value will go in the still existing bitcoins.
The fact is that it is hard to distinguish between a "lost" bitcoin and a simply "held" one. You can just do it statistically.

That's not entirely true. Technically you could brute-force the private key and thus gain access to the wallet, but it is highly dependent on luck and the timeframe for actually getting the private key is large enough to be unviable and it is far more profitable to mine with that processing power than try to brute force a private key. But then again, knowing how computer technology advances it may be possible in the future at some point.
1605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Keeping track of price paid. on: November 30, 2013, 11:09:46 AM
Personally the transactions between BTC and fiat I make are so few and far between that I don't really keep track of the exact price I pay (all I know is that it cost me a lot less than it is currently valued at) but I imagine you'd be able to do so primarily though a spreadsheet in Excel or other program. It would also make it easy to keep track of P/L.
1606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptsy - Any Good?? on: November 30, 2013, 10:46:40 AM
Luckily Cryptsy is planning on implementing USD markets as soon as possible, things could be looking great here very soon.

This is generally where things tend to go wrong actually. A lot of the USD exchanges have been having issues recently and some have been having persistent issues for a while (e.g Gox). I'm not sure how Cryptsy is going to avoid the same issues with regards to it all but it will be interesting to watch how it turns out.
1607  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easiest and CHEAPEST way to sell ONE bitcoin ?? on: November 30, 2013, 10:41:07 AM
Is there a reason why I cant reply to his thread ?

You should be able to reply to the thread as this is after all in the newbie section. The only issue you might be facing is that you have to wait about ~5-10 minutes between each posts as part of the anti-spam rules in place until your account develops enough activity to post on a regular basis without time constraints.
1608  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining 1 BitCoin A Day ? on: November 30, 2013, 10:37:50 AM
None, all for preorder  Tongue
By time you receive it you will need about 2-4 THs to mine 1 BTC a day. Difficulty is steady rising so far

Yep, the critical issue with buying mining rigs/ASICs is that by the time they come the difficulty has risen to a point that it probably is no longer profitable to actually mine. If you want to mine profitably you'd need to factor in this problem and weigh it up to just buying BTC and waiting for that to rise in value.
1609  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitBook.biz - Bitcoin sportsbook - Best odds - Instant Withdrawals on: November 30, 2013, 10:31:11 AM
Popular bets with 0 remaining make me sad.

Why is this possible?  I understand not wanting to get too lopsided on one side of a bet, but why not move the line/odds and continue to take more bets?

Yeah, it's very disappointing to see a line that is no longer available to bet on because it has already been bet on so much. Are there any ways for you to change this, or is it set/determined?
1610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BEWARE OF EBAY-How I got f'ed on: November 30, 2013, 08:55:08 AM
Yep, the golden rule is that everywhere (not just eBay) can have people who are out to shark you. eBay is just more prone to it than most places. At least you didn't try to sell BTC on eBay, loads of people have lost BTC that way.
1611  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need help :( on: November 30, 2013, 05:45:04 AM
There was no transaction fee to my knowledge. I just went to 'send payment', put in the address from cryptsy, and pressed send. That was that. Where was I meant to send the transaction fee, wheres the box to put in the transaction fee? how much is the fee? All these questions are confusing me!

And is the 0.9 returned because I originally had 1 btc and its not been divided?

I'm sorry for my ignorance.

I'm not too familiar with Cryptsy I'm afraid, although on a general note whenever you wish to make a transaction you should make sure you include some transaction fees (check your website if their automatically deducted). I suggest you read some more here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees
1612  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: user CrypticBits - scammer on: November 30, 2013, 05:41:44 AM
I can't believe so many people have been scammed, I'd advise you guys to perform background checks on the person's profile before trading as well as considering the use of escrow for larger pruchases.
1613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where do you spend you bitcoins? on: November 30, 2013, 05:17:11 AM
I don't lol. I literally just keep them, waiting for the day I feel like cashing some out as the price is rather high (e.g now) and I'm predicting the bubble to burst. Aside from that I use it to bet on sports mainly and just watching the valuation slowly creep up.
1614  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Question on: November 30, 2013, 05:14:51 AM
If you don't mine with the GPU, then what do you guys mine with?

Basically now you have to mine with ASICs if you actually want to make some BTC. ASICs (application-specific integrated circuit) are basically designed for fast hashing power in relation to Bitcoin, so it means you get a far faster hashrate than conventional GPU mining. However, do note that the pricing of ASICs can vary and some can take a while to ship out.
1615  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a 5-6 BTC loan for a period of 40 days on: November 30, 2013, 05:09:50 AM
The internet is paranoid, sorry man.

And we have every right to be considering that half this forum is either spam/troll posts/scams. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't particularly get much pleasure out of being scammed hence my "no-trust" motto. Anyway, as has been stated without some kind of collateral it's rather hard to loan you considering your lack of reputation, lack of transparency as to what exactly your doing and a rather long loan period of 40 days.
1616  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying BTC via Paypal on: November 30, 2013, 05:04:59 AM
Yeah... uh no. Sorry to tell you but you can't just come here with a new account, no prior trading history, no rep and try to claim that you have "a lot" when you don't provide any means of proof. Not to mention that your buying via Paypal which is known to be rather problematic at times to say the least and you refuse to go first.
1617  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need help :( on: November 30, 2013, 04:56:04 AM
Its been going on for an hour and there has been no confirmations whatsoever. I thought it was instant? plus my position keeps fluctuating in the que

Usually confirmations are relatively quick (~5-10 minutes for small tx fees) depending on the transaction fee paid. How much transaction fee did you pay? (if you didn't pay anything it's going to take a long time maybe 24-48 hours before it goes through).
1618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: November 30, 2013, 03:42:47 AM
In another thread, someone mentioned that he knew of a 17-year-old who started buying bitcoin at 14 cents... That made me wonder how old people are on here? Mostly young people? I'm 33...

I'd say that the mix is about 70% young people (17-30) and 30% older people, as I feel that Bitcoin has a tendency to attract younger people with a more open mind and attitude. Conventionally, older people have trouble adapting to new paradigms hence why I'm leaning on a younger average bitcoin population.

Wow, just my luck, just as I changed my sig over he comes alive and actually starts paying lol.
1620  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New user, wanted to introduce myself on: November 30, 2013, 03:08:45 AM
Welcome to the Bitcointalk forums Smiley Hope you have a good time here! As far as trading in cryptocurrencies goes there is a lot of opportunity but also risk as the markets are extremely volatile at the moment and as such it is rather hard to predict the movements and the future value.
