1621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Other coins on: October 13, 2017, 09:50:54 AM
If I want to hold other coins, (Litecoin) do I need to sign up to an exchange?
for holding them, no. you sign up on exchanges to buy these altcoins. each of them should have their own wallet. visit their respective website or announcement on bitcointalk to find their official wallets (example: litecoin.org)

Quote
do I need a different wallet? (current Trezor)
yes but some wallets like Trezon support multiple cryptocurrencies. if i am not mistaken Trezor supports Litecoin and a couple of others, check out their website for details on how.

and can I sign up for an exchange outside current Country?
yes. most of them allow that. if they block your country, they will surely give you a warning when you are signing up.
1622  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin investment with lump sum or regular small amount on: October 10, 2017, 10:26:41 AM
i think it comes down on what you plan on doing.
for example if you want to actively trade, the second strategy will not work. you need to buy with "lump sum" in a big dip and sell after the recovery was done.

but i am guessing you are mostly talking about long term investment in bitcoin rather than trading it. in which case both are good options in my experience.
it depends mostly on the situation. for example recently there was a big dip, in this case you should have bought a large amount at once near the bottom.
but now that price has already recovered and rising you should buy slowly, $50 per month/week,... and continue investing like this.
1623  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC analysis for this month! on: October 10, 2017, 10:11:39 AM
Possible that before the fork we may experience $5,000 or higher.

At the current speed, it is quite sure ! only 200$ dollars from this 5K target, it's a matter of days (maybe hours...)

things never work that way.
there are resistances to be broken, and there needs to be some force deriving the market so that price can go up!

the $5000 is a big resistance, mostly because it was the previous ATH but also because it is kind of a round number and a big target for many. which is why it may take a little longer than you may like for it to get here.
1624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So many clones of BTC. In or not? on: October 10, 2017, 10:02:43 AM
There are many clones of BTC thats coming out with so much hype. So many versions like E-BTC and many others that says they are better than BTC. Are they valuable? Or will BTC always be the King?

i believe the e-something coins were all based on ethereum, waves,... chains and were mostly ICO smart contract stuff and had nothing to do with bitcoin really!
it is just using the names of popular coins and there are a lot of them:
e-btc, e-ltc, e-iota, ...

don't confuse these "names" with forks of bitcoin like bitcoin cash which did an airdrop to bitcoin holders. they are very different. for example for these you just have to own bitcoin to get the airdrop. for the above ones (the e-something) you just have to participate in the airdrop with your ETH, Waves,... address.
1625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia banning BTC? on: October 10, 2017, 09:56:22 AM
1. banning an exchange is not banning bitcoin
2. cryptocoinnews is not a reliable source. they are known to write all kinds of weird bullshit and call it "news".
3. this year, reliable sources have been saying Russia is about to legalize bitcoin the same way Japan legalized bitcoin. this is a quote from the head of Russian Central bank actually. they said because bitcoin is traceable we consider it as legal.
4. nobody cares anymore about country ban FUD. Wink
1626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gold on: October 09, 2017, 10:45:20 AM
Probably the initial price will be lower than the price in 2months so is probably a good inversion if you can buy it very cheap

you can't really make speculation like this about an unpopular altcoin with this type of airdrop. many people will dump it and continue dumping it for some time. it may never recover as the dev dumps his premined coins too.

the price can be the highest at the start then drop hard then come back a little. just like many other altcoins like it.

It is not yet introduced before that I don't know how you said that coin is not famous. We have wait till the next fork and then only we can confirm the whether that value will bump or not.
If the value finds and starts with the less amount of the value you have to invest and buy some coins to make profit.

it is a combination of observation and guess and some experience from other similar coins, that i said it is not famous!

i may be wrong, i admit it. but usually when something is created like this with a large amount of coins premined, they don't see lots of success.
add to it the fact that a large amount of airdrop will be given out (16.5 million) and you get yourself a lot of sell pressure.
1627  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: With Bitcoin & Ethereum gathering momentum among investors... on: October 09, 2017, 10:37:59 AM

According to Token Report, a database of cryptocurrencies, 105 initial coin offerings (ICOs) worth $1.32bn were sold in the last quarter, with more than $956m sold in first half of the year. The year-to-date tally stands at $2.27bn, compared with $100m raised in 2016 – and all without paying fees to underwriting banks.

this is exactly the scary thing about Ethereum!

many people don't see it but existence of all these ICOs and all the money they gathered is the only reason why ETH went up this year. and went up this much!

imagine if ICOs never existed. or imagine the day ICO stopped being a thing, either because people got tired of investing in them and losing money or when more countries banned them.
what will happen to ETH price then....
1628  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is B2X already priced in? on: October 09, 2017, 10:30:32 AM
But if it's November and nothing has changed -- 90% or more miners signalling the NYA, and no services backing out of the agreement -- then I think the market may start pricing in the split.

yeah, that is what i am also afraid of, that the miners continue supporting the 2 MB hardfork. it is bigger than 90% and things will become a big headache.
note that nobody is exactly "signalling" now though. it is just a couple of characters they put in their blocks

how about the fact that price has been going up?
anyone wants to comment on that? are people buying bitcoin to get more coins out of the following forks (gold and 2x)?
1629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gold on: October 09, 2017, 10:20:49 AM

1630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens if i send bitcoin to BCH address. on: October 09, 2017, 10:11:32 AM
it depends on where you got your BCH address from.

- if it is from a third party service. for example from an exchanges wallet, then you will have to contact them and ask them to do something about it. sometimes exchanges fix it for you, sometimes they don't specially if the amount is small.

- if it is from your own wallet and you have the private keys. then you just export the BCH private key, and then import it into your bitcoin wallet and you will have the bitcoins you send to that address accessible.
1631  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you expect a crash soon ? Or you see bitcoin keep climbing ? on: October 09, 2017, 10:01:17 AM
Feel free to free your thoughts bitcoiners Cool. We are aproaching a major point of the bitcoin bull run so now let's monitorizate the bitcoin rally very very close.

there is no "bull run" yet to reach its point or whatever it is you have in mind. this current price that you see is just a recovery after about a month and price is coming back to the normal levels.

your mistake is that you are thinking the previous price (meaning the $2970-$3900) was normal. but it was not. it was a fake pushed-down price which needed to be corrected and it is now corrected. Smiley
1632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fork time / bloody october? on: October 08, 2017, 09:19:40 AM
nothing is going to change because of October fork. it is not even worthy of attention! when you premine an altcoin, you kill it yourself, it doesn't even leave any room for any discussion about its future. Bitcoin Gold is officially a pump and dump shitcoin.

the November fork however can potentially be bloody. but we can not say anything about it right now. you need to wait and see  what will happen the closer we get to that date.
1633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is S2X already on life support? on: October 08, 2017, 09:11:18 AM
I kind of wonder how much depends on the ticker symbol. Bitcoin = BTC right? Not BCC or BCH or BTC1 or whatever else.

Bitcoin is BTC. Who decides this? Top exchanges. That is a lot of power resting there.

it is never an easy thing to say. and it certainly is not determined by one person or group. a lot of different things should come to play to determine what we all call "BTC" or "Bitcoin".

hashrate and security of the chain for starters. whether we like it or not, miners are strongest when it comes to these things.
then it is nodes that are shaping the network.
then the merchants, businesses, different services,...
and finally the smallest is the social media "noise". Smiley

what all of these call bitcoin will become bitcoin.
if a "split" happens among these, things will go terrible wrong. lets say half and half or 60-40, everything will get complicated.
1634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Possible Bitcoin manipulation by banks on: October 08, 2017, 09:00:23 AM
the thing is bitcoin market is big and it is still getting bigger. "banks" getting involved will be one force in the market, alone. unless they can come up with a way to pool all their resources together and do something in the same direction, it is impossible to manipulate bitcoin more than usual.

also in my opinion when you talk about involvement and manipulation you should also consider their benefit. they don't just do stuff. crashing a market can also mean no recovery, you lose a lot of money if that happens. pumping a market can also mean crash and no recovery and you lose a lot of money again.
1635  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Surges Above $4400 As World Realizes Jamie Dimon & China Don't Matter on: October 07, 2017, 01:14:18 PM
i honestly didn't expect such a strong buy support behind bitcoin to keep the price high at this level.
obviously a recovery was expected even back when price reached the bottom at $3000 it was calling the $4000 come back soon. but i didn't expect the $4300-$4400 range to be sustained this strongly.

all the Dimon and China drama has always been a temporary thing. this is the story of bitcoin as far as i can remember. same FUD, same people taking advantage and becoming bigger whales and price rising in long term without paying any attention to any of them Wink
1636  Economy / Economics / Re: The Supply of Bitcoin Is Limited. The Supply of Cryptos Isn't! on: October 07, 2017, 01:04:39 PM
i really doubt anything remotely like that can happen.

you know the act of creating something doesn't make it good or even worthy of attention. you think you can create (as you put it) "new gold and silver" without any limit, but the fact of the matter is that you can not. what you will be creating is shit. that is why the term "shitcoin" exists.
when something has no usage, nothing to offer and is just copy, it is shit!

and in case limitless number of cryptocurrencies are created just to have that "new gold and silver" it is simply going to fail. you can't really paint iron yellow and call it gold.
1637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gold:What you need to know about the new cryptocurrency? on: October 07, 2017, 12:55:52 PM
...with large blocks that appeared when part of the network did not want to install the update SegWit, ...

from what i have seen, this had nothing to do with wanting or not wanting SegWit. this was more like wanting to take the power. and obviously this has been a failed attempt but still the motivation was clear to me.

if they didn't want SegWit they would have stuck to legacy chain, or increased the block size more dynamically rather than to 8 MB in one move. this was just an attempt to take the power and centralize bitcoin and they ended up with an altcoin!
1638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEO - long term hold on: October 07, 2017, 12:17:04 PM
the thing that scares me about your plan is the price of NEO in the long run. a couple of months is such a long time for an altcoin, let alone a couple of years. waiting that long can even mean coming back to an empty pocket of some worthless tokens.

or the best case scenario is that NEO goes to the moon and comes back and you miss the chance to sell on top and take the profit
1639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China Will Likely Resume Cryptocurrency Trading by Licensing Bitcoin Exchanges on: October 07, 2017, 12:09:10 PM
China and bitcoin are inseparable. or at least it looks like it.
bitcoin is being used a lot more than the government can do anything about it and stop it. so the only option that is left for the government is try and take as much control back as they can.
they do it through regulating the exchanges and trying to put them on leash so they can control the flow of money in and out of them and watch it closely for money launderers.
it happened before and it will happen again.
1640  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another Bitcoin fork on 25 October on: October 07, 2017, 12:03:16 PM
i don't even know why people bother talking about the October 25 fork which is clearly an altcoin just with the name bitcoin in it! this is another "brand abuse" that they are doing. they use bitcoin's brand name to make some money from it. that is all there is.
it shouldn't even be talked about in bitcoin speculation board!
