Any reason it's not on /r/bitcoin?  Too altcoiny for the main sub?  Thermos might allow it if you ask nicely, since it's at least 50% about BTC.

Fantastic article and weuse.cash is just too perfect!   Cool
1842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think of CryptoNote? on: June 09, 2016, 08:47:33 PM
Is the technology that cryptonote introduced a noteworthy and important contribution to the cryptocurrency space? Would you consider it one, if not the best, crypto technology that uses advanced mathematical analysis and innovative ideas to empower end-users with true privacy, both financial and personal? Can it shift the current global paradigm through cryptography and egalitarianism?

Reading the Cryptonote whitepaper gave me the same Eureka! feeling as the Bitcoin whitepaper.

I didn't expect to experience one, much less two, of those moments in my lifetime.

Such elegance!  So freaking slick!  A truly Holy Grail level "achievement unlocked."

Satoshi showed the world a white unicorn, then Saberhagen caught a black one.

This breeding pair of formerly mythical creatures are highly complementary.   Cool

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

What a terrible week for poor D-ASH.

Every day Bitcoin enjoys advances in development as it finishes Layer 1 and prepares to start building Layer 2.

Meanwhile, D-ASH stagnates, with no plans to add modern features like SEGWIT, Lightning, RBF, CLTV/CSV, and sidechains.

In this state of decay, D-ASH will never be able to match the next wave of crypto magic, such as MAST.

The bizarre thing is how Evan's Gate cargo cult members struggle to rationalize D-ASH's technological dead end.

They know SEGWIT will enable Schnorr signatures, which are crucial for scaling blockchains using CoinJoin/Shuffle.

But when pressed, they pretend to be pleased with D-ASH's commitment to stay stuck in 2014-era Bitcoin technology.

Dash can't support sidechains or Lightning

I think thats the whole point.

Monero now has (at least) 7 types of gorgeous physical coins available.

Cryptonic makes unfunded silver, silver plated, and copper ones.

Lealana (smoothie) makes funded silver rounds in three different color schemes.

luigi1111 made his out of pure gold.

Too bad Finite By Design got so horribly fucked over by Evan Duffield, when F*D's physical Darkcoins became obsolete the instant THE DARKCOIN FOUNDATION INC. decided to try escaping their shady past using a sudden rebrand/pivot to D-ASH.
1844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 09, 2016, 07:17:02 PM
Looking at the BTC trades go by, we see giant flurries of zero BTC "dust."

Those indicate interest payments being made to lenders, so we have some indication XMR is being shorted, perhaps heavily, today.

Time to break them?  Or wait while they grow overconfident?
1845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: June 09, 2016, 07:19:19 AM
You truly believe Duffield will succeed where XT and Klassik failed at "piling every proof-of-work quorum system in the world into one dataset?"

See ? You're already warming to my point of view  Grin

For someone who thinks the way to make blockchains more valuable is to make them invisible, thats progress  Wink

I'll take that as an affirmation you are an actual, in the wild, Dash Maximalist.

Using zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic functions (ring signatures and stealth addresses) to give users the power to configure their own visible/invisible blockchain settings is a significant advancement in the evolution of economic sovereignty.

OTOH, Dash's bad crypto (broken/rebranded CoinJoin + broken/rebranded GreenAddress) and snake oil (HYIP) marketing make me depressed about the state of humanity.

congrats icetrooooll, you singlehandedly managed to troll both dash and monero thread... i should praise you for your achievement...

I'm not the only one that noted klee's ragequit was a tad emotionally overwrought.

Can we do a PnF analysis of this thread, using troll vs shill posting stats?   Tongue
1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 09, 2016, 04:15:46 AM

When I first started to sit down and wanted to learn more about cryptos about a year ago (long story as to why), I always loved this post by AP that pretty much is a different way of thinking about investing that provides a great analogy about going out early to bars.

Wow, it's fun forgetting you wrote something and rereading it (wondering what the hell you're talking about).  I hope we one day have the technology to make George R Martin forget everything he knows about Thrones and make him experience it for the first time >=)

Regardless of congruence with reality, that "altcoin clubbing" essay is Legendary.   Cool

If we introduced GRRM to Bitcointalk, he'd be like "zomg wtf I can't handle this I'm out there are too many characters and too much drama!!1!"   Cheesy
1848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: June 09, 2016, 02:23:37 AM
Can you imagine if Duffield had designed the internet, and all those layers were stuffed into the same bloated MasterProtocol?   Grin

But he's not designing the internet. He's designing a monetary medium and doing so using monetary priorities. I know the subtle distinction is lost on the myopic techno-trainspotter species which is why you often see them posting network protocol stacks instead of monetary legacy in support of their arguments, but it exists all the same  Wink

The modality of Duffcoin's "monetary medium" is digital and the context is networked; the (digital, networked) resemblance to the internet is uncanny.

Thus the principles of sound software design (an extension of electrical engineering's discrete logic discipline) come to the fore.

You truly believe Duffield will succeed where XT and Klassik failed at "piling every proof-of-work quorum system in the world into one dataset?"

In today's Classic Comedy of Errors, Altcoin Jesus makes a Sensor Ship Martyr fuss about reddit's sitewide Cointelespam ban.   Grin

https://twitter.com/ErikVoorhees/status/740590787843358720

Hilarity ensues as our #DramaQueen (and former Paycoin provider) struggles to understand the simple words BashCo uses to explain why his false accusation is blowing up in his face.

http://moneyandstate.com/mea-culpa/

"But muh Sensor Ships!" - Voorhees, basically

Behold, the spectacle of Professional Libertarian Eric Voorhees repeatedly violating a private site's terms of service!  What a FSA socialist!

His trolling/FUD/vote brigading is obviously intentional, regardless of the minutia.

This isn't the first "oops I accidentally all the obvious fraud profit" mea culpa we've seen from Eric.

Here's another: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2r5irw/shapeshiftio_official_announcement_re_paycoin/

And another: https://twitter.com/ErikVoorhees/status/705868361163415552

Shapeshift profits from increased volume when the Klassik Klowns stir up Bitcoin-Is-Dooomed drama.

IMO more than a one day suspension was warranted.  But that's up to Reddit admins, because it's private property.   Smiley

Stealing from a traveler far away from their home and support network is different than stealing from a neighbor you know can afford it.

That's why the traditional penalty for horse thieves and highwaymen is the same - death by hanging or firing squad.

And if they want to harden their approach, justice will reach out and find softer targets.

This is a discussion forum not a hangout with your RL buddies who you can call names whenever you like.

You must be new here.

Welcome to  B I T C O I N T A L K !

I agree with DaveyJones. The constant stridency has got old ages ago already.

Only klee is allowed to be strident, as he makes whiny rage quit posts; nobody should respond in kind.

OK, got it.   Cheesy

EDIT:  Klee is a victim of Voorhee's fake censorship martyr story.  He retweeted https://twitter.com/ErikVoorhees/status/740590787843358720 but not the retraction and apology.

IOW, Klee was agitated by Voorhee's propaganda.  No wonder he was a bit sandy and salty today.   Cheesy

[honest reaction to unnecessarily dramatic Goodbye Cruel World self-pity party]

Sounding like an asshole proofs his points... can we atleast argue as adults?

As adults, we are obligated to give our friends a hard time when they do silly/obnoxious stuff like having Hearnias and making whiny rage quit posts.

You want me to treat him like a child and use soft, soothing tones to avoid melting his delicately beautiful snowflake crystals?

I give klee more credit than that, and assume he (a senior Bitcointalker) has skin thick enough to roll with some playful fisticuffs.

By white knighting for klee, you imply he lacks agency and thus treat him as your ward (IE, a child or invalid).

I'm sure Segwit/LN will be deployed on time with no problems and 100% user adoption in No time Roll Eyes

Segwit, besides fixing malleability and providing a dozen other benefits, will act as an indicator of how much we need larger blocks.

Segwit is on the way....Slush just took Klassik's last hope out back and shot it:

Although sidechains are interesting technologically, they highlight the design conflicts that arise when you try to impose a technology solution to a monetary problem. For example, confidential transactions does let you cover the tracks of a particular transaction when seen from a granular perspective. But what impact does it have at a holistic monetary level ? An adverse one - majorly so - because in trying to solve a privacy problem it creates a huge fungibility problem. The logic of it is similar to washing your clothes in an acid bath to remove a coffee stain.

Dash can't support sidechains or Lightning, so now you need to tell us how bad they are.

Sour grapes, right?

"Holistic monetary level" is code for "toknormal's witless nattering and navel gazing."

FYI, fixing Bitcoin's fungibility problem automatically fixes privacy as a side benefit.

And scaling by using a layered approach is how good engineering works, not a "design conflict."

Sophism lives in Monero community!

Socrates would be sad  Embarrassed Cry

I am out. Community sucks, with some bright exceptions.

Zcash will teach you a lesson I suppose.

For those interested (and I have many people in my team that like XMR) I still cover this coin because TA is TA.
If I see an opportunity in XMR I will advise everyone to buy.

Currently the guideline is to not touch this unless it gets ridiculously oversold (50-75k) because from TA PoV (performance, relative strength to ETH, LSK etc), liquidity, whale manipulation etc etc SUCKS!

Keep holding your bags as 'investors' lol

Oh nice.  I love seeing unconditional capitulation like this.

BULLISH!   Cool

Did you dump Because Offended yet?  Please surrender your precious XMR to stronger hands ASAP, so some good may come of your Hearnia and whiny ragequit.

Zcash?

LOL

Have fun with your tea leaves and momo play time!   Cheesy

Where can you buy non-trivial amounts of anything at all without slippage?

You can't, because "non-trivial" is best (IE objectively) defined as an amount which causes slippage.

Circular logic FTW   Cheesy

CoinJoin: Combining Bitcoin Transactions to Obfuscate Trails and Increase Privacy

Schnorr signatures could allow for the aggregation of all signatures in a CoinJoin transaction into a single signature. This efficiency should result into lower transaction fees per input, and perhaps stimulate use of the most private and fungibility-friendly solution.
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/coinjoin-combining-bitcoin-transactions-to-obfuscate-trails-and-increase-privacy-1465235087

Could these "Schnorr signatures" benefit DASH?

Before DASH may benefit from Schnorr signature aggregation (tree sigs), it will have to implement segregated witness.

When is DASH getting SEGWIT?

DASH can't just stagnate while Bitcoin adds Schnorr sigs, SEGWIT, CLTV/CSV, RBF, sidechains, payment channels, etc.

It will be obsolete long before Evolution is done.

It will never happen. Bitcoin will always be behind.

Bitcoin already has CLTV/CSV, RBF, and is soon getting SEGWIT.  Those functions allow sidechains and payment channels to be build out as a very high tps Layer 2.

DASH does not have CLTV/CSV, RBF, and is not soon getting SEGWIT.  DASH will not have sidechains or Lightning.

Given those facts, why do you say "Bitcoin will always be behind?"

to each his own i guess. i prefer user freindly decentralized protocol level (soon to be free) instant transactions and mixing to inefficient centralized clunky 3rd party fee ridden layers subject to control/censorship. but that's just me, seems like a perfect fit for you.  Kiss

i also like the nice ~11% roi for running masternodes. like it or not DASH and a few others have become a global store of value that are not going away. i wish btc luck in all it's endeavors and hope and believe it will continue go up in value, i still hold a few Wink.

This interaction began with you asking an important question about Schnorr signatures.  I informed you about them, in the topical context of Dash's lacking SEGWIT functionality.

Not sure how you got from Schnorr sigs to some off-topic stuff about ChainAnchor.  Was that an attempt to deflect criticism of Dash not keeping up with Bitcoin's latest, Layer 2+ scaling enabling, features?

You should know why lack of Schnorr/tree signatures will cripple Dash, a coin based on CoinJoin/CoinShuffle type mixing.  Please don't lose sight of that key point in the rush to attack me.  Continue that line of inquiry.  If you are holding bags of DigitaltrASH, such questions will lead you to valuable, actionable information.

11% ROI is not sustainable in the real world.  You are a victim of a HYIP.  Google it.  There is a reason I call them MadoffNodes.

If it seems too good to be true (EG 11% ROI) it probably is.  TANSTAAFL.   Tongue

There is too much staked on this anticipation of anonymity and security and too little to show in many years of active r&d.

Those enthusiastic updates always detail mistakes and do-overs, yet the fluency of its language appeals as "real progress being made."

The manipulative, misleading language used in those "enthusiastic updates" is called Happy Talk.

As MAID is a token of investment in an unfinished product, MAID is obligated to also address potential problems and setbacks, not just burble cheerfully about "Real ProgressTM being made."

But all we get is cheerleading, instead of a fair and balanced, sober-minded account of the rest of the picture.

That's a red flag indicating 99.99% chance of scam.

And the surprise existence/sale of millions of Secret Bonus Coins confirms the last 0.01%.

Scam 100% Confirmed.
