What should we name this release?

Thinking about a meme using "dark matter"...
Maybe we could take the periodic table of chemical elements and put the word "DARK" in front of every element, starting with Hydrogen:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periodic_table

so

Dark Hydrogen (would be the first name to use)
then
Dark Helium
then
Dark Lithium
then
Dark Beryllium

etc...

the good thing about this is we will not run out of consistent names for a while, to name all the following versions.  Wink
Also we could create a sub logo for every version that consists of an atomic model with changing numbers of protons/neutrons and electrons.

EDIT: Here is what it might look like:

When we reach Version Dark Gold in 10 years, how awesome will that be?  Grin

Unofficially, I like the idea of lowering the maximum amount of coins. There is more value in scarcity. However, I'm not sure if cutting it in half is the correct way to go, especially if we want a decent amount of coins mine-able still and a good staking period. I also like the idea of cutting the halving time, but I'm not so sure about having a period of time where there is a large amount of mine-able coins.

I disagree.
Simply reducing coins doesn't create value. Plain scarcity doesn't create value.
If I go to my workshop and create a crazy looking piece of art out of wood and steel, it will totally unique among the whole planet, but NOBODY would want to buy it.
So scarcity doesn't mean value per se.

My personal opinion is to refrain from changing the coin at all. Keep it as close to bitcoin as possible, and strive to make it merge minable.

I visit so many mining pools where you mine bitcoin and mergemine namecoin, devoin and ixcoin at the same time. Why not add wankcoin to that list?

If wankcoin is here to stay then make it stand shoulder-to-shoulder with bitcoin, forever. Merge-Mining attaches a coin to bitcoin forever.

My idea is to show a binary  grid or something that is explored from various services (BTC)
a second layer shows another grid (dark, fast, foggy) that is surrounded and protected by masternodes.

Looking forward to it!  Smiley

What you just said somehow makes me fantasize about this:

You probably don't want to live in a CGI house.

lol, why not. It's much cheaper to buy an oculus rift!  Cheesy

Also, isn't that crazy, that a darkcoiner would want to live in a house where the bathroom is completely transparent like that? hahaha

But hey, why not. Who am I to judge. To everybody his kink.

oh,
i m likely to be the last person to "see" this,
but i didnt know that masternodes already have their topleveldomain: dot mn

wow

whats the source of this info? I did not know either

It has been the TLD of mongolia for quite some time now. (20 years?)  Cheesy

the mongolians must be happy that their rather expensive domains are now co-opted by all kinds of darkcoin businesses.  Grin

How many times was bitcoin already banned or about to be banned, I don't think that this has any effect on bitcoin whatsoever.
Especially since BTC is designed to work without any government approval, lol.

I put my previous unused payment towards this project instead.

Deal.

We would need some kind of valuation system, that we could update over time, and that would have only the most important features as criteria.
So, not a static info image, but more like a website that updates all the time (showing new competitors, and getting rid of obvious failures over time) with the ability to share the graph as screenshot with the click of a button thru all the various social media ...

What would important criteria be:

1) transaction time (obviously measured in seconds)
2) anonymity (difficult to measure and compare.... hm, ...)
etc..

what other criteria would make sense?

EDIT: 3) energy efficiency of blockchain securing / mining.

Every criteria would give a coin a few percentage points, and the total sum of points would make the top coin appear on the left, followed by the remeinaing top 9 (if we were to make a top 10)...

EDIT: 4) total net hashrate of the network at the moment. Ok, but how do TH/s of sha256 compare to MH/s of X11 or scrypt? ...difficult comparisons ahead, phew... maybe Joule/Watt/s ?

EDIT: 5) Distribution of total moneysupply over how many addresses? Not very reliable or meaningful... but makes nice pie charts.
Lets just start out with a simple infographic, save the .psd/.xcf to use as a template for a website when we get more advanced. Not bite off more than we can chew all up front. Get the block of clay, then sculpt it. Color scheme is obvious...

Step one is describing how different types of crypto work; BTC (and clones) blockchain, CN, Proof of Hoard coins, etc... We can describe the concepts and their flaws generically without seeming like we're trying to attack certain names specifically, because the truth is that we're not. We could cite commonly known examples of coins that use the flawed systems just to give people who don't read/understand a clue what's really going on in scamcoin world. The objective is to help people see what's wrong and why it needs fixing, not necessarily promote the one and only coin that is fixing it instead of running scams... I think if we can educate people clearly, they'll figure it out on their own. Maybe?

DRK doesn't so much need promotion itself, as the other coins need to be exposed for what they are. Once that is done, DRK simply stands out as the obvious choice.

Satoshi called BTC an experiment for very damn good reasons. We (should have) learned from it and moved on by now. BTC was and is an amazing concept that got almost everything right. Almost... Satoshi's crystal ball could be expected to be only so good. Most altcoins are actually worse. Some have novel ideas that are ingenious, but serve no real purpose as stand-alone features, or actually make it worse on their own. Then there's the 95% that are just plain bullshit scams...

Mining juice used is a useless metric. Equilibrium and paradoxical ruleset are not based on it. It's a distraction created by people who don't understand what mining is, but are mining in a vacuum of clue and whining because they don't know how to pay attention to the actual metrics affecting them. Anyone can mine pretty easilly without having a damn clue what's going on. Much like most of the people using the very same cryptos with no idea that it's not secure or anonymous at all... They have no clue.

Describing how different types of crypto work, describing concepts and their flaws , plus examples, what's wrong with them, what needs fixing... all this education...

And you want to put all this in a simple infographic?
This can't work.

We need something a little bit more broadened and extended.
I anticipate that this will need something in spreadsheet form, much like coinmarketcap, but more directed at information instead of all those meaningless approximated numbers.

There are so many interesting comparisons we could make.
For example we could show for each coin how much code they took from which other coin, and how many lines of code they developed themselves.
Why does something like this not exist yet???  Huh
So, if darkcoin has taken some code from litecoin which in turn is based on bitcoin, and then darkcoin has added x,y,z of new lines ofcode, and invented DGW and darksend etc...
how many other coins implemented DGW? (This should be as easy as a simple string search)...etc
So in our valuation list, darkcoin would recieve many extra points because many dozens of other coins are using DGW in their code.

My head is spinning with all the ideas.

Do you understand in what direction I would wish to go? I don't think a simple infographic is worth the time or will cause any meaningful impact anyway.

What is the total net hashrate at the moment?

Network Hashrate: 91.98 GH/s

Source please?

Or is there a way to calculate this myself?

You can get this in the wallet, no?  getmininginfo?

Absolutely. Thanks for pointing this out:

Seriously FUCK YOU BITCOIN IM GONNA PUNCH YOU IN THE FUCKING DICK.

Fuck bitcoin, the prediction I made 2 weeks ago comes true:

DRK still looks cheap below $300
BTC falling on DRK open source news.
The game is afoot

I can imagine a scenario where BTC falls to 200$ while DRK rises to 200$, and they both meet on the way, respectfully greeting each other, but never seeing each other ever again.

Reminds me of this hilarious simpson evolution clip: (click pic for video)

Er.... I'm skipping forwards.... Are you going to make a video for use georgem?  AWESOME!

The goal is to create a website first. A website with a kind of table/chart that updates all the time. Showing the rankings measured with those criteria we first need to specify.
I think I have an awesome domain name ... (will share soon. )

Well, my wallet is mining on my desktop again to support the network, LOL.  How many cores does it default to?  'cause I just started it with setgenerate true  Tongue

All of them.
Please be careful and monitor the temperature of your PC. I don't recommend mining with your ordinary work pc. You could damage it if it doesn't have proper ventilation.
(better run only 1 core at all times)
I just tested on my work pc (4 core AMD (Vishera) with 3.6 GH) it shows a hashrate of about 40 kh/s and needs about 95 Watt (just the CPU, but obviously the whole PC needs more) if I am not mistaken.

So, we have to find out the total net hashrate of the darkcoin network, to calculate how much help those 40 kh/s would be. Or if I only used 1 core, the 10 kh/s.

What is the total net hashrate at the moment?
coinwarz says 84 GH/s... so I would contribute about a 2 millionth part of the nethashrate (or 0.00005 %) when I run my PC with all cores actively mining.
That's not recommendable, but good to know.

He has already written the code. The MN payments will increase every 30 days. The poll is to gauge what the community thinks is a good level to stop increasing, but is in no way official.

Just to clarify our discussion we had.
I have no problem with masternodes getting payed more.
But miners need to stay at all costs.

This is the current idea.

I know, I just needed to state the statement.  Cheesy

Im wondering how a small currency like ANC are able to create a decent looking infographic about their technology while Darkcoin seems to be unable to achieve such a thing. Hopefully this is in the works.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=227287.msg9042059#msg9042059

A professionally made information video would be great too. These are the little things that will matter now at this stage of the project. There is a lot of talk about adoption and what we should do to achieve this; these 2 things are the most important (other than sorting out the website which for some reason has gotten worse instead of better).

Cointelegraph did one, but it's tiny & got the max price wrong. Surely there's an artist here who could do better. Smiley

I can try and create an infographic.

But I need more detailled information.

1) This 7% decrease per year, when did this actually start? Because I don't think this mechanism started back in jan 18 2015 when darkcoin came into existence, but only weeks/months? later.
If I am not mistaken it was camosoul who came up with the 7%, lol  Cheesy
2) Block reward is controlled by moore's law? I don't understand this, can someone phrase this differently? It sounds pretty meaningless to me.
3) About 22 Million Max coins, which year will this be the case, approximately?
