Former Federal Agents Found Guilty For Silk Road Involvement
http://bitforum.info/t/former-federal-agents-found-guilty-for-silk-road-involvement/725

Now, we are very familiar about issues of corruption specially in the government.
I was just surprised that these agents were very confident not to get caught.
In my opinion, they should be punished worse than Ulbricht.

When you look at corruption in government, this is really small in scale.
The small fry got caught. If real corruption (kickbacks in infrastructure and defence contracts) was paid in Bitcoin, the price will go to the moon. Smiley

There are other threads on this topic (Fed agents). The title is misleading.  Tongue
1942  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Auction] 6 sr. menber account for sale - 1 day for Auction on: April 04, 2015, 03:41:31 AM
Have any of these accounts been banned in the past? Since there has been a crackdown on signature campaign spamming, this would be an essential piece of information.
1943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How bitcoins get confiscated? on: April 03, 2015, 01:57:34 AM
A red-hot soldering bar in the ass of bitcoin holder makes miracles. )))

We are assuming that most modern governments (at least the US) wouldn't use violence/threat of violence to extract information.
At least from what we have heard until now, the seizure of bitcoins has been due to mistakes committed by the holders.  Smiley
1944  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How bitcoins get confiscated? on: April 03, 2015, 01:47:54 AM

When the feds confiscated Ross Ulbricht's coins, what they actually got were the coins held by users of the site. His personal coins were protected with far better security and despite their best attempts, they are still inaccessible to this day:

Quote from: The Guardian
When Ross Ulbricht, known as Dread Pirate Roberts to users of the site, was arrested last week, the FBI seized 26,000 Bitcoins belonging to Silk Road customers. But it also attempted, unsuccessfully, to claim the nearly 600,000 - thought to be worth around $80m - which Ulbricht himself is thought to be holding...

The number of bitcoins seized from Ross' computer is definitely more than 26,000. It was 144,000 coins. The silkroad coins were sold immediately, while Ross' personal coins were sold at a later stage. The sale of silkroad coins was immediate, while the sale of Ross' coins hinged on the government being able to produce enough evidence to convict him.

The government and Ulbricht agreed to the sale of these Bitcoins on January 27, 2015, during Ulbricht’s trial in New York City. One week later, Ulbricht was found guilty of seven drug trafficking and money laundering charges after only 3.5 hours of jury deliberation.  Had Ulbricht been found not guilty, the money earned by the government in the auction would have been returned to him in cash. Instead, the money will go to the Department of Justice’s asset forfeiture fund, according USMS spokesperson Lynzey Donahue.

Any reason why the amount required has doubled from yesterday's request posted here?
1946  Economy / Lending / Re: [Closed] Need 1 btc loan. Paid back 120% within 7 days on: April 02, 2015, 12:46:51 PM
I really don't think it is any of your business...

Fair enough. I asked because the loan amount seemed disproportionate to the collateral.
If you are relying on his trading history, then that is different. By all means, it is your money and your call.  Smiley

http://btcfeed.net/reviews/purse-io-buy-on-amazon-with-bitcoin-save-up-to-50/

A recurring discussion regarding bitcoin that is frequently brought up among both critics and supporters of the coin is the practical use of bitcoin in different facets of everyday life. Developing bitcoin into a currency that is viable for use by the average person is one of the largest obstacles the cryptocurrency has been working to overcome since its birth. Early on, finding relevant uses for bitcoin was a struggle.

This wouldn't really qualify as news, would it?
1948  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 1 btc loan. Paid back 120% within 7 days on: April 02, 2015, 12:24:16 PM
I can do this for you if you can sign a message from an old address and agree to provide your account as collateral.

You would do a 1 BTC loan with a neutral trust, full member collateral account as collateral?
Are you basing this on the untrusted feedback, or your knowledge of the borrower?

Are you trying to sell your account here, or is that a different account?
1951  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling a five months target at $211 on: March 31, 2015, 01:03:55 AM
Given Bitcoin's volatility, I would say that the target was reasonably close.
At least the OP got the trend right.  Smiley
1952  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Feds Demand Reddit Identify Users of a Dark-Web Drug Forum on: March 31, 2015, 12:57:06 AM
It would be pretty nasty that reddit delivered private information, but how silly are these agents I think? they all probably under TOR anyway.
Personally i dont care tho, my only drug is making Bitcoin.

As far as I know reddit stores the IP address of the computer you use to sign up, apart from logs of the last one month.
So unless you have consistently used tor, there may be a trail.

Wall Street may be making tentative bets, but the price doesn't seem to reflect it.  Undecided
1954  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Swedish exchange want protect his clients ... the swedish tribunal court don't. on: March 30, 2015, 03:34:27 PM
The government would do well to establish some kind of threshold level.
Requesting details about all consumers / transactions is a bit excessive.
1955  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is AI on: March 30, 2015, 03:32:12 PM
The network consensus awareness has a single possible action which it alone controls: setting the difficulty in order to keep the block timestamps as close as possible to 1 every 10 minutes.

It is just one variable which is controlled / solved. In my opinion, still a large way away from AI.  Smiley

SaruTobi - A Super Mario-style game

http://venturebeat.com/2015/03/11/bitcoins-next-frontier-a-reward-for-gamers/

A new game appeared recently in the App Store in which players earn Bitcoins just from playing well.

SaruTobi is a Super Mario-style game. It’s name is Japanese for “flying monkey,” and it not only managed to successfully gain Apple App Store approval but also found a unique way to introduce iOS gamers to Bitcoin.

Marrying gaming and Bitcoin together is a shrewd move by the developer, as gamers and owners of the cyptocurrency share a lot of similar demographics. Typical Bitcoin users being profiled as a tech-savvy male, 25 to 40, with above-average income, according to a report by Nicholas Colas, the chief market strategist for Convergex, last year.
1957  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secret Service Agent: Digital Currencies Fueling Cybercrime on: March 29, 2015, 01:46:14 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if the US starts funding terrorists via Bitcoin and then blaming Bitcoin. We've had this. The government is stupid. They can't control Bitcoin, they can't take it down. That's their problem. This is something completely new that they have no power on.

I don't think the government will go to such extremes just with the objective of discrediting Bitcoin.
Even if they do fund terrorists, the Bitcoin believers will just shrug it off and life will go on.
1958  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 21 million not never !!! on: March 29, 2015, 01:40:11 PM
There are at least 2130 BTC which have been lost forever because they have been sent to an address to which nobody has the private key.

Good news. Digital goods are one place where Bitcoin would be a natural fit.
I really hope companies like marathonfoto.com start accepting Bitcoin.
1960  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secret Service Agent: Digital Currencies Fueling Cybercrime on: March 28, 2015, 04:09:56 AM
One of the factors which helped in convicting Ulbricht was that it was possible to prove that bitcoins on his computer were obtained from SilkRoad. It is time crime investigators woke up to block chain evidence.  Smiley
