a goxbtc is a btc that is trapped in mt.gox, one that they aren't letting people withdraw from mt.gox. Internal btc transfers still work between users on mt.gox, so people are selling them off the exchange & getting better prices. There's even a website set up to automate it, https://bitcoinbuilder.com/

How does it work exactly? I mean it sounds nuts. Why would anyone pay .7BTC for a goxBTC?

I can buy a GoxBTC for .5BTC.

Because deposits take some time to get in, so they can't buy the cheap btc on gox directly, it's the only way to buy in. You're right though, you can buy elsewhere & possibly get better prices.

Interesting. If I trusted that site I'd definitely do it lol. (I have GoxBTC Tongue)

So now we are waiting for the news. If a hack is true I wonder if there would be major dumping on all exchanges or they will completely decouple from Mt.Gox ?

If gox goes down there will be dumps.

wrong! ~ think supply and demand! : : Bitcoin is secure Mt. Gox magic cards site not so much it seems...do we throw Mark under the bus.....? or is this China vs. Japan inna way? *** show of hands ***

This market usually isnt logical. I would be very surprised if people didnt dump upon Gox closing (unexpectedly)

the bitcoin main server actually runs on mac. thats why no one expected it to virus. clearly someone set us up the virus. now all our bitcoin are belong to them :/
1965  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who is the dumper on mtgox ? on: February 17, 2014, 06:28:00 AM
I dont follow. What is a  "Goxbtc"?

And if withdrawals dont work, how could anyone buy them?

And what deposits? Deposits to gox work. Withdrawals dont.

The press release wont come or it will say they are delaying withdrawals, 99% chance of that at least.
1966  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox price is and volitility fucking nuts. on: February 17, 2014, 06:25:48 AM
Do you have any idea how much money people have lost due to the incompetence at Gox?
Personally, it hasnt cost me shit. Unless they never enable withdrawals, then the <$1000 I have there is gone. But, many people have lost most of their investments due to them. Because they intentionally make BS press releases that cause panic. And they've done it before. And they'll do it again. They are scum.

Not many people are panicking though, it's not really fallen that much on other exchanges, surely a widespread panic would be more widespread? Goxbtc are trading higher on bitcoinbuilder than on gox.

It is looking very suspicious now though, we've had Monday in Japan, some money should have gone in, out of control bots should have run out of funds or been stopped, I can't think of many excuses why it hasn't recovered on gox. Will have to see what they say & do.

Why on earth would you expect a Gox-only problem to cause panic elsewhere...? A disconnect of this scale is clearly impossible without one exchange having major issues, being (mostly) ignored by the others.

It hasnt recovered because... wait for it...

NO ONE IS BUYING.

Roll Eyes Huh Cheesy Roll Eyes Huh Cool Shocked Sad

Whu'dha thunk it?

These mythical bots and manipulators have stopped dumping. And the price hasnt recovered. Its almost like its the agreed upon price @ gox.

Haha, who am I kidding. Its clearly an extremely wealthy manipulator selling all his BTC well below market value. He's gon' get so rich doing that.
1969  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin trending down. Dogecoin trending up. on: February 17, 2014, 06:18:38 AM
Doge doesn't have to be 'the winner', it just needs to form a niche and be useful to achieve a value of a penny or more. Moving value around quickly and cheaply is the whole point to this, no? or are you naive enough to think bitcoin will create a transfer of wealth and freedom back into the hands of the people? please.

So either the Doge/BTC exchange rate increases nearly 700%, or Bitcoin goes up 700%... so Doge can cost 1c.

Makes total sense. I should go make a coin with a cap of 100 trillion. Dimwits like you will be convinced its undervalued at 1/1000th of a cent. IT HAS TO BE WORTH A CENT!?!? IT JUST HAS TO!!!
1970  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin trending down. Dogecoin trending up. on: February 17, 2014, 06:15:08 AM
I think you guys are missing his point, or I'm giving him too much credit .. he is suggesting that from a technical standpoint, there isn't anything one coin can do that another can't do.  In fact, it's sort of a self-evident statement, assuming that the source code is public.  Technical strengths and weaknesses aside, it's simply a matter of what "the people" choose.  Marketing, that is.  This should concern anyone who invests heavily in one coin expecting it to be "teh winnar".

Bitcoin wont end up being the main virtual currency; but it will probably remain #1 for awhile yet.

Some of the more interesting coins like Ultracoin/Vertcoin will end up taking Bitcoins place.

Although I suppose it is possible for bitcoin to "win", it really shouldnt.
1971  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin trending down. Dogecoin trending up. on: February 17, 2014, 06:03:44 AM
lol dogecoin.

Go tell your mom and pop to invest in Dogecoin ok?

Its never going to become anything. The name alone is the reason for its success, and why it cant ever be significant.
1972  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox price is and volitility fucking nuts. on: February 17, 2014, 05:57:43 AM
There is no fallacy, woman. I want you to run one so I can criticize your dumb ass. I don't need experience to run one to know it's not a piece of cake. I tend to cut some people some slack when criticizing them on something I couldn't do myself, especially in using a cutting edge currency that has protocol issues beyond my control with every hacker on the planet out to get me.

 Roll Eyes

That about sum this guy up?
1973  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who is the dumper on mtgox ? on: February 17, 2014, 04:49:10 AM
You guys are so full of it. Why is it a conspiracy? Its simply people panicking. If it were manipulated, guess what would happen to all of those Gox asks? They'd be gone. All the way to $500.
1974  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who is the dumper on mtgox ? on: February 16, 2014, 10:35:49 PM
I voted manipulator. Before the dumps there was a spike from 380$ to 540$, probably
the manipulator bought his own coins, and then sold them to create downward momentum.
MtGox should have stopped the trading after seeing this unnatural market movement,
and then resume trading only after withdrawals would resume.

lolwut.
Im sure all of the asks and independent buys up to 540 were the same guy, and all his coins.

If he wanted downward momentum, he would have just sold them.
1975  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 16, 2014, 02:21:11 PM

1978  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 16, 2014, 02:30:46 AM
That was a good dry run of potential positive gox news, other exchanges responded fast.

The buyers on the other exchanges must be handicapped, they would have an impending dump if Gox enables BTC withdrawal.
1979  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 16, 2014, 02:29:05 AM
How to lose half a million dollars instantly.

Ouch!

The troll who posted that sure must be proud lol. I thank him too; he spread his wealth.
1980  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 16, 2014, 02:24:47 AM
Did anyone actually confirm that that transaction on reddit is real (from gox), or is it just a random blockchain transaction?

Its confirmed fake. So, what the fuck did that whale just enter for?
Itchy trigger finger - saw news and did not confirm, feared getting left behind on further price rise.

A market buy to 540 seems kinda nuts. Why wouldnt they limit order to 500 and get dumped in to? lol
