SSDs were probably the biggest performance boost in the last 10 years, spinning drives just suck.

Amen. I was aware early how much of a performance bottleneck storage was.

yeah SSDs are to throughput as 3d graphics accelerators were to video games.

back in the day my brother in law bought a voodoo card for quake and i though he was nuts paying that much money for a video card, especially one that needed a primary card for regular desktop stuff. until i saw it. the next day i drove almost 100 miles (one way) and then i too had a voodoo card. just for glquake.

only other thing that saw that much improvement in a PC was when i got the original sound blaster. the original had a built in  4 watt (2w x 2) amp and rotary volume control on the bracket to drive regular, unpowered speakers directly.

ahhh wing commander and mechwarrior on an IBM AT with memory expansion cards.

Not that it's getting too boring.. 4D chess again

Does playing 4D chess require lying, defrauding, swindling, doctoring documents, and impostoring? Because he's losing, and no one is playing his game.

obviously he is playing against himself. thats why he thinks he can win. as he is a half wit, one half will win.. right?

4D chess FTW
1983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did CSW just admit that he stole 80k [btc] from Mtgox? on: June 13, 2020, 10:07:59 AM
He claimed an address known for one of the most infamous hacks in Bitcoin? Laughable. Hahaha.

Where's hv_? He should read it, and explain.

Their explanation is that Faketoshi's strategy is simply beyond our mortal comprehension:

Not that it's getting too boring.. 4D chess again

We're all apparently just too stupid to see how committing perjury and fraud is going to prove that Faketoshi was really a genius all along.   Roll Eyes

perhaps some super duper important info is known only to someone in prison and he needs to meet that person for an extended period of time. very complicated, may take years of conversation to reconstruct.

or shards (or whatever the f those slices of keys etc are) of the tulip trust are engraved in various prison cells at various prisons. he will want to sample many many cells.

If your thinking o buying an Intel system I would just say no for awhile.

These security issues are just beyond acceptable.

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2020/06/new-exploits-plunder-crypto-keys-and-more-from-intels-ultrasecure-sgx/

yeah just grabbed a new notebook/tablet. went AMD as i figured anything with an intel chip will just keep getting slower and slower as more and more security patches and microcode updates are added to slow it down.

not that AMD is perfect but intel? seems like they just didnt give a f*ck about really anything for years till real some competition came back.

* BobLawblaw grumbles. Angrily.

err.. (if directed at me) sorry? im not big on social graces or interactions. or so im told.

but if grumbling angrily in general? im on that page too.

edit: ive seen some pretty real crap in my life on social issues. but this is next level shit. been a while since i was in protests, but even with the risk of catching covid-19 and with underlying health conditions as personal risks to going out there i think its time to get counted and add a voice or two.

edit 2: as can be seen im not very observant in anything. especially in real time.

another vote for V8 to be a merit source,

he seems to pop up in the most unusual places to drop merits as well as his somewhat regular stomping ground (the WO thread). always bringing a laugh or spreading pertinent news and using his own unique flavor of humor when presenting it.

a must have addition to the merits source list IMO.

@fillippone

That sucks man. Can you imagine the heart dropping feeling if you were to click send & see what you’d just done?

i had a very similar heart stopping moment sweeping a paper wallet many years ago. clicked, realized my mistake (failed to sweep all of it.. dont ask and this was before RBF, if that even would of worked with the wallet i did it with, dunno). man till i verified the change went back to the paper wallet addy.. well.. not a good feeling. that 10-20 minutes till a few confirms went in. otherwise it would of been donated to the miners as the fee if i recall the rules correctly.

2/10 would not recommend.

TLDR    check it several times when messing with stuff.
1990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 10, 2020, 08:49:24 PM
is that a bass drum roll I hear way off in the distance?

Drums. Drums in the deep. We cannot get out.
1991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 09, 2020, 05:28:13 PM

Back in the 1960s we used to say, "you can't trust anyone over 30".

 Grin

I was 2 in the 60s.  So you can trust me.

no that "im now two years old" trip was pretty common when dropping acid in the 60s

And the fact that your only defense is "lawl" just further reinforces things.

I hope you die painfully.

thats the difference between you and i. i dont wish harm on you. even if youre an asshole.
1993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pablo Escobar and Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto on: June 08, 2020, 09:29:21 PM
I believe with all my heart that Satoshi would not have used his real surname as this would be a ever so slightly large security slip up.

I do also believe that he was only human so would be worried about forgetting his original name. Therefore he would've slightly changed it.

Due to my research I wholeheartedly believe Satoshi is Dr Shakamoto - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfs4vGDMWBE

i think youre onto something.

with only slightly more rearrangement of letters i have come to the conclusion that Satoshi is Rick Astley.

Funny.  I can imagine AlcoHoDL doing an expressive dance towards his phone trying to get the phone to cooperate in showing the proper numbers.

I need one of those too... just like my avatar suggests.

That's the beauty of HoDLing. The older we get, and the longer we HoDL, the better we become, at anything! I can bet that soon we'll all be able to perform almost as good as her... Wink

hey i could do that pose too.

once.

then, many months of physical therapy.
1996  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 07, 2020, 01:00:05 PM
So, that was fun for a little bit.

Stares angrily at... people.

well, fun is where you find it.

but some peeps definition of fun differ from mine apparently.

edit: not directed at you or your comment, just my general observation.

EDIT 2 june 4th: f word thing
1997  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 07, 2020, 10:20:18 AM

yeah thats my attitude too. we may be walking (or sleeping) on a narrow ledge with potentially killer drops on all sides but its where and how you land that counts. so may as well enjoy the view.

edit for july 4th: f word thing
1998  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2020, 12:00:24 PM
Thinking of buying a bit of physical-never did before. Worth it?
No.  It is not.
I dunno...it's shiny

..Getting a bit tired of our protracted bear market. We will be truly out of it above 20K, still more than 100% to go.
Don't want to diworsify yet, but there will be a time.
If you have the money for some gold, and patience to wait, then yeah, buying gold is a great idea.  Diversification, which is important to me.  1 oz of gold is more than some 98% of Americans own.

Physical gold only.  Hide it well, don't tell any neighbors, etc.

Oh, yeah, it's shiny too.

yeah its shiny. BUT

1 oz = 1 oz

do the math, especially if you mix in silver.. i aint no young whipper snapper any more. my walker can only hold so much.

whew good thing i made the deadline.

You made it look like you're my alt. You're gonna get us both in trouble with Mr. Mustafa. No merits for us Sad

we were in too much of a rush for those sweet, sweet merits.

BAD us.

What's with all the hate and off-topic trolling. The OP clearly demands to provide personal info so you must.

Just move this shit to off topic before mods get wind of it.
