2042  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Trading can be considered as Gambling? on: December 26, 2020, 05:18:10 AM
Trading requires a higher skill level so it is not classified as gambling even though there are many similarities. They both require a certain degree of risk in order to make a risk. Exchanges make money off of fees so they don't need to fix the odds in their favor which is what you get with casinos. That is one of the key differences. Trading is more regulated so even if there is risk there are also protections for customers.
2043  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Blocked funds in a poker room on: December 26, 2020, 12:35:55 AM
There is very little regulation when it comes to online gambling. Casinos can just take your money and you are at their mercy. There is nobody that you can turn to because authorities don't like to get involved in these types of disputes. The only thing you can do is complain and hope you get enough attention and they will be convinced through pressure to return your funds.
2044  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Development Is Beyond Slow! IMHO! Yell at me! Prove Me Wrong! :) on: December 25, 2020, 02:53:41 AM
It might take a while to implement new improvements but the development is going at the right pace. Security is what is more important when you have the market cap and popularity of Bitcoin. We've seen countless examples of projects prioritizing hype and price pumping over functionality and users ended up losing money.
2045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Bitcoin's fees overpriced? on: December 25, 2020, 02:30:22 AM
If you are paying $10 to make a transaction then it is very likely that you are overpaying. According to mempool.space around $3 is what it would take to get your transaction accepted into the next block. Depending on if you're using segwit and the amount of inputs and outputs your transaction would be more expensive.

I don't expect it to stay like this forever. At the beginning of the bull run the fees were quite low and it wasn't until the price went past the all time high that they started soaring. The price won't remain bullish forever and since most on chain transfers are related to trading activity fees will go back down.

2046  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell WBC Lightweight Interim Title (January 2) on: December 25, 2020, 02:04:35 AM
Although bookmakers consider Ryan Garcia to be the favorite, his opponent Luke Campbell is also a very good fighter who has all the chances to win. According to many analysts his advantage in this match may be a little bit bigger arms length and the fact that he is a left handed fighter. This factor is very often an additional irritant for any opponent.

We've been waiting for another big upset to happen since Teofimo Lopez's win against Lomachenko over two months ago. If Danny Garcia, Callum Smith and Leo Santa Cruz couldn't pull it off then I don't think there is a reason to believe that Luke Campbell will be the underdog who finally pulls it off. Boxing has become too predictable lately so I hope that I am wrong and he can give us some excitement.
2047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Paying with crypto for government services on: December 25, 2020, 01:03:27 AM
People can't pay their taxes directly with crypto in the United States. They use an intermediary like BitPay to convert Bitcoin to fiat.

I would use crypto to pay for government services only if I mixed my coins first so they are not able to link my transaction history with my personal identity.
2048  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 257 Main Event: McGregor vs. Poirier [Prediction and Discussion] on: December 24, 2020, 05:05:17 AM
McGregor is the big favorite according to the odds. After losing to Khabib he's taken a long time off from MMA and has only had one fight against a relatively easy opponent. Poirier will be his first significant challenge in a few years. If he wins this fight it will show that he is still one of the top lightweights and would get a chance to become champion once Khabib officially vacates the title.
2049  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: prediction betting platform pros and cons? on: December 24, 2020, 01:25:17 AM
One con that we saw recently was that the outcome of the election was not conclusive at first and then Trump tried to make it even more confusing by claiming he was going to win in court. Prediction markets held off on paying for several weeks to make sure there was a definitive answer. Having your funds locked up for longer than anticipated would make anybody nervous. This is always a risk when there is a close election or the outcome of an event is ambigous.
2050  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2021 NBA Season on: December 24, 2020, 12:52:34 AM
It feels like the previous season just ended. I think for the Lakers having such a quick turnaround will be challenging. The teams with longer layoffs will be anxious to get back to playing while the teams that made it to the playoffs wish they had gotten a longer break so they can recover. Having to always be training and playing without enough rest could take it's toll.
2051  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction not showing up in the blockchain | Code: -26, Error: on: December 24, 2020, 12:34:25 AM
You are trying to replace a transaction with a lower fee than the original trasaction. It needs to be higher.
2052  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Between XRP and XLM wish is best on: December 24, 2020, 12:27:43 AM
Stellar is not being sued by the SEC so it is not in immediate risk of disappearing. It is a safer investment at this moment. They are both centralized coins that could be shut down at any moment. XLM has been more low profile so I don't think anybody will be coming after it any time soon.
2053  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to migrate from Greenwallet to Electrum? on: December 23, 2020, 07:26:05 AM
Thanks for your reply! But unfortunately the process didn't work! My bitcoins wasn't migrated to Electrum this way! It has just created a new wallet with zero balance.

Blockstream doesn't use standard derivation paths for their wallets which means you can't import your backup into another wallet.

2054  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto Casinos and Sportsbooks missing from Bitcointalk? on: December 23, 2020, 03:33:39 AM
Me too I'm afraid to play on those kind of website that doesn't have ANN thread but I don't think it's necessary to create here even though it could be an advantage, for what I see some of them have a Curacao license so assuming it could be safe... or not?

Curacao offers no oversight of casinos operating from their country. It is one of the easiest licenses to acquire. Having a license from there is only beneficial for the casinos but for players it does not matter and does not make them safer or more trustworthy. It just means they are able to legally operate in most countries.
2055  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New rules from FinCEN on: December 23, 2020, 02:50:16 AM
This always happens when Bitcoin is seeing new all time highs. Three years ago they went after ICOs to try and make an example out of them and then we saw a big crash soon after. It seems convenient that we are seeing new regulations being proposed again in 2020 to try and stop the momentum we are having.
2056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shall I HODL DOGE? on: December 22, 2020, 11:53:36 PM
Dogecoin is only really useful if you're going to make a lot of small transactions and want to save on fees. It is not something worth holding as a long term investment. When you look at it's price in BTC it is down 35% over the past year. It has really high inflation and no cap on total supply so over time it's value will keep decreasing.
2057  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sport betting site offering bets on the Covid-19 pandemic. Worst site now. on: December 22, 2020, 04:21:57 AM
This just seems like a desperate gimmick. You might get some attention for doing this but it's just something I would keep my distance from. Some of the wagering options seem too ambiguous and unattractive for gambling.
2058  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in-$200 FreeBTC⭐Win Lambo🔥0.2BTC DailyJackpot🏆$32,500 Wager Contest on: December 22, 2020, 03:10:28 AM
Wheel of Fortune gives me 5000 lottery tickets, which in theory means I can be a winner like some of last weeks small holders.  I'll round it up some as thats only a tiny percent chance but still better then a state lotto odds of winning I think
Quote

How lucky or fortunate the person who won the 0.2485 with just 650 tickets must be and would not be believing that won the first price with that smaller number of tickets. As, the third winner he has 111,000 times more ticket then the first winner and still ended up getting third prize.I am sure that guy would be frustrated seeing the result.  So, under such circumstance anyone could be a winner with less tickets as well.

I won 500 tickets from the wheel of fortune today so seeing the results from the previous lottery round has me feeling lucky. This is the most tickets I've ever had as far as I can remember. Currently my odds are at 0.01%, which is not ideal, but at least I have a fighting chance.
2059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should We Avoid US Based Exchanges Now? on: December 22, 2020, 02:52:10 AM
They are really trying to crack down on cryptocurrency. I would not trust a US exchange because the government doesn't care where you are from. If they want to shut down an exchange and seize their funds they will not hesitate to do it. They don't care about the rule of law. They make it up as they go along. The Trump administration sees bitcoin as a threat and I don't expect the Biden administration to be more understanding.
