2061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: September 18, 2018, 04:17:13 PM
I have been investing in Siacoin for almost a year and mining SC since the beginning of this year.
I wish Siacoin all the best.
I support whatever it takes the Devs team and community to make the Sia project better.
BTW, I just sadly realized that my JR member has been demoted and I am a "newbie" member again...
Can anyone in this thread help me?  It would be greatly appreciated...

Did someone hack your previous account? If so the only way to get it back is if you had saved your BTC address on the profile and then send the devs

a msg via private msg to prove you own that BTC address...then they can give it back. (or at least that is how it worked years ago). A blank paper wallet

on the profile with access to the private key for such purposes works just fine also. Stuff it in a book, someplace, just in case or simply copy-paste the

info on the empty wallet somewhere you can get at also.

As to your current problem, if you were demoted to a newbie because of a hack, and did not do above, you are out of luck.

Let us know if you have been demoted for another reason I"m not aware of..if for no reason contact a Moderator and ask...

could be a bug I guess

2062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your plan for the next world wide recession. Are you planning on such? on: September 18, 2018, 04:05:33 PM
I hope we aren't due for another global recession because the regional recession experienced recently in West Africa bite harder than imagine with exorbitant prices of commodities. Thanks to good economic policies and foreign direct investment, the economy is now in a recovery phase but won't last long, if a global economic recession kick in.

Moreover, those who can have feasible plans to cushion the effect on the micro level are the super rich but for a young graduate just settling out, I can only hope it's not true.

What advice will you give me @Op ?

Well, as much debt as you can dump I'd guess, also anything you can do now that you would give yourself a bad time about for NOT getting in a recession..extra work etc.

If your job is going to be in jeopardy .think about a backup job in place even if a lot less money you could grab...just as a stop gap if it all goes to heck.

Not a lot you can do about a recession, but you can get your ducks in a row and do something because it is always "I'm gonna beat myself up" about the recession (like you can

control such things) ...so at least if you do some of this stuff in case, your self-esteem will be better.

Went thru 5 of them. Always beat myself up should have seen it coming, with the way the USA is acting these days it is like a red flare to me!

And if I"M DEAD WRONG...you are golden with less debt and such actions above.

mostly, it is not about the $$$ or BTC you can save..it is about you did what you could as you 'go to hell plan' or GOT plan...in case it does go sideways and down...

Again, the last couple I took some steps that saved my butt...paid my house of early, which saved me from a 2nd job just before the 2009 crash...

anyway, my coping mechanism from psychology class on all this Smiley

p.s. be sure to take the POLL. Smiley

2064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is your plan for the next world wide recession. Are you planning on such? on: September 18, 2018, 02:30:32 AM
With the world the way it is (Trump Admin and I expect a doozy of a Recession as a result of the 1/2 Trillion Dollar Permanent tax cuts to the wealthy in the USA)

I am following this plan. I retired in Jan when BTC and ALTS were high (duh) thus the goal is to last until I'm 65 at worst or 66 at best (full retirement age w/soc sec) with my

crypto assets. With all the drama I finally just took all my assets traditional and crypto and cut them in HALF for returns etc for retirement use until 66 years. My worse case guess say.

Thus working with the disabled in my lifetime of work I had the buying power of my working life of about $35k say average....with 1/2 assets in crypto, as I state above shot down to 1/2

of the value of today...still.. 35k buying power is still possible if needed

the next 3 years till traditional investments and social security kick in (even thou have to buy my own insurance till 65 years for next 1.5 years)

and if crypto and all goes poof or even less than half value in next 2-3 years my traditional investments will cover me at 66 with soc sec etc (no debts) at you guessed it 35k

Thus, figure it is out of my hands. If I am correct..covered...if I am not I'm in much better shape...viewing it this way than fretting about it ..anyway...how I look at this.

Been thru 5 recessions...I'd suggest folk, pay off the j.c.penny card and such..knock off debts, get new tires, do SOMETHING in a proactive manner because we are more than due

for a recession. IMHO. Again, if I'm wrong I'm still Golden ..if I am right at least I did something. Again, always helps to have your debts down and ducks in a row when such happens.

You are a LOT less hard on yourself.

anyway, my coping mechanism these days. I really can't see folk selling their hoard of BTC or altcoins at 25% loss (15% cap gains and in my case 10% state taxes) just to watch

the stock market goes down 40% after you swap them to traditional investments. (yeah, I know typical downturn is 20% and takes 3-4yrs to recover from. I'm betting 40% deep

a recession and 7  years to recover from) Thus losing 'potentially' 65% of your BTC and/or altcoin stash as worse-case IF BTC and altcoins act like gold and go sideways or up

in such times, ie a store of value...well...again seems damn silly, to put BTC or alt into such ..I'll take my chances HODL mode or as much as I can and stay retired

You can bug me about how wrong I may be on this in 3 years on the thread....but how I'm 'dubiously' mentally and such preparing for the next recession. Just saying HODL.

Chump or Champ in HODL mode. We will be the first to know I guess. (after the fact as usual)Sad

2065  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 18, 2018, 02:23:03 AM
I just pulled the trigger and bought another $1000 from $6500.  Grin

It was a risky decision if you think for short term but since I am here till 2021 It doesn't matter much...

In the long run it doesn't matter much. People were trying to buy the bottom in 2015, but it didn't make much difference if you bought in at $150, or $200, or $250. By 2021 the price could be hundreds of thousands of dollars, and $6500 coins will be a distant memory.

Actually, in 2014, when the price was fluctuating between $400 and $700, I recall some members crying about coins that they bought in the $700 range or even higher, and other members asserting that in the longer run, all of those coins are going to be profitable - which ended up being the case by late 2016 - and all of those coins became very profitable by mid-2017 without really returning to being unprofitable.

In the end, if we keep buying bitcoin and engaging in a kind of hybrid dollar cost average that also attempts to buy on dips, we are likely to profit handsomely, even if we make a few mistakes here and there.  The most profitable were the ones who took some kind of stake in bitcoin and stuck with accumulating, rather than waiting on the sidelines for the price to drop - which seemed to neither come when you wanted it and price drops do not tend to inspire confidence for a lot of folks, even when attempting to HODL and ACCUMULATL through it

So even when the folks who sold in the $1k to $3k arena may have felt profitable, at this time it still seems questionable whether they are going to be able to get back into bitcoin anywhere near their selling price and they also missed a lot of opportunity to sell some or all of their BTC at much higher prices.  By the way, if you are investing in BTC long term, rather than short term, then you should not be cashing out all of your BTC, even if the price goes shooting up, even though it might well be prudent to shave some of the profits off on the way up by selling reasonable portions of your stash that allows you to still have some, in the event that the price keeps going up beyond your expectations, which seems to be about 3x to 5x of greater than expected returns (on paper) of what happened in December 2017.

with the world the way it is (Trump Admin and I expect a doozy of a Recession as a result of the 1/2 Trillion Dollar Permanent tax cuts to the wealthy in the USA)

Not even 1 exchange yet ?!?!

anybody have any idea how to buy & sell ? Huh

try here:

WTS (want to sell) or WTB (want to buy)

example: WTS 10k SPACE @0,0001 sats

lol...with all the siacoin bitmain units out there...that may be 'interesting' in that everyone wants to sell, (from repressed selling) I doubt anyone will want to buy much

a lot of pent up " I should sell some for the electricity I've been gambling on this coin' from miners logic

good idea though, hope it works at least somewhat

Are the antminer a3 doorstopped yet or they can still mine sia?

big time doorstop at 512gh is it? and around 1,375 watts...

A 500w 500gh (current what they can get) Obelisk Sc-1 cannot even make electric costs. (doorstops) they claim to fork siacoin..but not sure what good that will do without

their decentralized cloud vision up  (sia-tech)

I'm on my 18th day of getting my 1st (of five) siatech obelisk sc-1's ....left them in the box...doorstops

this coin hyperspace...all that hash and no place to sell...so don't see this coin going anyplace either

whatever ...my viewpoint is dark indeed on all blake2b stuff no matter the flavour or fork

At the last bottom....? I think not to Many in here, and i Will not if there’s a new bottom, let cheap coins come to me thx in advance..... new coins are always welcome  Smiley

In HODL Horde mode ..since 2015...(not to say I'm still not clueless...more like 'frozen' on indecision I guess)

You know what they say, right now BTC is either the ATL (groan) for the year.....or the ATH (also groan!) for the year..take your pick.

chump or champ....time will tell on my 2015 HODL bet. (I"m scared......hold me....heh...I crack my self up...likely because I'm cracked up)

Meanwhile, not working network that makes sense to invest $$ equipment wise for HD's and participate. No Siacoin network fork. But hey, I got my Obelisk SC-1 ASIC doorstop,

day 9, still in the box, unopened. No reason to run it at a $1 a day loss over electric. (but who's counting, days, right?) sob! (live and learn)

a buddy did turn it on to see if they work at the data hall....not impressed..no way to set settings the watts are correct (500w) but it only mines

at 500gh, not the 800gh they said originally...worse yet, no way to do any settings ..it is all locked in..thus can't overclock or underclock ...or anything

you plug it in and it runs as it runs...luck of the draw...

so again, this is day 8  (back in the box/off) just thought folk would like to know what is what...

by the by ..at the 'supposed' 550gh they can do with 2 boards...IF they simply would have shipped 3 boards to a miner (one slot is empty) they would make

the approx 800gh they stated (at probably around 750 watts) ..but still..instead they seemed to go the 'cheap' route and pulled a board..charged us the same price

and said they would make a firmware fix to get to 800mh..whatcha wanna bet..they are simply gonna overclock the hell out of the 2 boards.

now, that really would suck, if you CAN'T MODIFY THE SETTINGS IN ANY MANNER...maybe your piece of crap obelisk CAN'T mine in overclocked mode

on 2 boards when they make the firmware/software mods ..supposedly...

myself, if the settings are locked... I'm simply going to make them 3 board units .....with what I've seen so far ..that would leave me with 3 units vs 5 units..

in that at this rate I imagine one board will be sh*t anyway..if not then I'll have a 1 board unit...but again...not impressed at all

brad

(again, back in the box/off 9 days since arrival...in doorstop mode)

If you don't want these mining rights, I give you the same amount you spent in BTC Smiley and I will be happy Smiley I don't know when you join the train... but I remember that mining in 2013 was not profitable Wink

in BTC it was about 0.98 BTC each...so, by all means, you want one of these miners for BTC ...feel free to contact me via PM. The 1st batch price was $2,535.00 USD with shipping included as an aside...I"m pretty sure that is what I paid for 1st batch..miners

after my equip deduction off taxes owed last year of 25% and the amount of gross income at my 41% tax rate (with state and soc sec for the biz) I am down 34% or about

1.11 BTC I figure...so it is a 34% loss on USD I spent on these...hey I figured they could least make 34% of the value back on units..oops)

(by the by...do you know something I don't?)

So all the way back to 2015 this goes? sh*t at say 100k that is $2,600 bucks. FML.
2074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: September 16, 2018, 10:45:44 PM

Same number of SC is mined daily since inception...and its the same for any other mined coin...not many have working product yet,
and yes, welcome to the capitalism, where we bet with our money on future marker winners

I thought the block reward decreased by 1 until the block reward reaches 30,000 SC.
At the moment of writing this post, the block reward is 127,451 SC.
I recalled at the beginning of this year, it was 150K+ at that time.

My bad, you're right. In my defense, I'm not mining SIA myself, so just assumed its permanent
number of coins per block (unless changed by fork) like most of mineable coins on the market.

Details here:

https://forum.sia.tech/topic/161/about-siacoins-calculation-and-supply

But that makes Brad even more wrong, as there's actually deflation over time involved

hey I'd like to be wrong, but simply having a lot of coins (siacoin) fork or not without the scarcity and the decentralized 10c on the $1 vs Amazon Cloud (siacoin's anonymous cloud mining in place)

where is the value come from? just having a LOT of previous GPU mined Siacoin on the hope of the pump if/when they get the supposed sia tech network up...is just that a lot of coin with no use, and you toss the amount of siacoin in the world before the obelisks were shipped (10x or more) with the scarcity angle taken away (GPU miners and if anything siacoin is not scarce now nor will it be when the fork happens)

where is the 'value' of the coin coming from? IMHO, unless they get their project network up to compensate for this massive amount of siacoin out there pre-fork and the ASIC's post fork ... it may be 'valueless'

just saying, again I have 5 of these doorstops..hope I'm wrong as hell, but not seeing it, let me know with facts how this works, if I'm wrong

would like some clarity on this...but just hoping the 'fork' is gonna fix this mess is naive, IMHO.

again, prove my doubts wrong, I'd welcome that! But again just the 'scarcity' argument does not cut it....siacoin has to 'do' something

besides being held as scarce or for a network project by siatech that is behind and not up to speed in any way from their claims

their network vison is key, so where it the hype? where is the product to compete against Amazon cloud in a decentralized and anonymous way at 10c to the $1 for Amazon Clouds centralized and not anonymous network giant?

they both have to come into play, and I just don't see this happening in any legit manner

brad

So what is considered a big order? 4/8/12/16 etc? Or do you have to be designated an importer of mass quantities to be in this boat?
2076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: September 14, 2018, 11:03:12 PM
how is this project still relevant when there's projects that offer the same services as an extra, on top of other things like interoperability, cloud computing, fog, ...? I mean Sia was one of the first coins i bought but it doesnt look like theres gonna be a light at the end of the tunnel

maybe someone would answer if you'd be more specific?

Well, I was specific in an above quote. (er....than again, maybe everyone does not have a clue how this will play out either) Sad

In the case fork happens and only Obelisks remain, you'll mine 20.5 million SCs divided by number of Obelisks. Happy?

But at 10x or more the amount of Siacoin in the world than Sia-Tech imagined, thinking originally they would hold a monopoly now

on mining. How does 10x the amount of siacoin and the ASIC's mining them like hell as well, affect price? In that the 'value' of siacoin

speculation wise, from what I understand was always 'scarcity' and according to the devs, not price, but as a way to keep security

and keep score for their yet to be fully implemented anonymous decentralized cloud storage network at 10c to Amazon Cloud $1 in pricing.

So, if the value of siacoin is dependent on the above, and its use, and you have 10x more siacoin in the world then expected and

your cloud storage solution is still not up to snuff...where does the $$$ come from for mining more Siacoin?

Scarcity is no longer a determinate in price (GPU mining), speculation on the price of the coin should? IMHO, take a big hit because of that

and the fact, the 'supposed' sia-tech cloud storage solution is not in existence yet...

so, you have a lot of Siacoin with little purpose but the HOPE they get the decentralized network up and working and 'eventually' it

will have value. Not saying I'm right, but if not that, where does the value come into this? The hope Sia-Tech will pull it off?

Seems to me most Siacoin hodl'ers have enough to wait something like this out. Thus again, IMHO, the ASIC's will simply add more

coin to a price that (if I'm right on above, big if) siacoin is now will dump big time. At least until the 'supposed' cloud storage network

is up to snuff.

Anyhow, beat me up, but seems to me a lot of 'coin' (horse) before the 'cart" (cloud storage solution) ..so value under these circumstances

on a forked siacoin eludes me. NOW if they forked to an entirely NEW coin, and start from where they originally planned (obelisks would

be the backbone) I maybe could get it. Now not so much.

Not a slam. If I am incorrect I need 'enlightenment' on this...feel free...

Since 1st (of 5) Siacoin miners arrived.

Now 15 days in the box. (doorstop status)

FYI.

Also having a hard time getting my head around the fact that EVEN if Siacoin forks, with all the siacoins in existence (say 10x what the devs originally envisioned) how is that gonna

be profitable with their decentralized anonymous cloud storage network? Seems a stretch. All them ASIC's with the fork...mining even more Siacoin, just replacing the surge of

Bitmain D3 miners that are off. So, I don't get the hype that this is gonna save ROI on these units. Not a slam. I just don't understand how this is 'supposed' to play out if Siacoin forks.

just wow what idiots to see it so small minded .... let them fear and miss the NEXT 1000% or so  Roll Eyes

Then again, depends on when you got your BTC, for example, 2013,2014,2015..still not too shabby considering in 2017 BTC was $1,000.00 Jan 2017!

So if the bubble CAN be discounted...as just that a bubble...perhaps stuff will just plod along upward in a more reasonable manner, price wise. (a guy can hope anyway HODL)

or as they say, in a previous post, 'we retraced the whole bubble' downward to where we are now, (Fall 2017)

(we will see I guess, differs a lot by your time perspective and when you got in on all this)

as a person who has been participating in this campaign for a long time let me tell you that the late payments have happened before but they will always come. so don't worry. usually it is due to being busy or escrow address not being filled in time.

as for your post count just go back in your own post history and see how much you have made within the 2 week period which starts on Mondays. for instance if you have started 4 weeks ago (2 rounds) you have already made 81 posts between 13-8 and 10-9. the minimum is 40 per round Wink
if it was 3 rounds then start from 30-7 and count. the posts have numbers so you just have to figure out how much is from that date till now then deduct the posts you made from 10-9 to today. assuming none of your posts are excluded.

yeah but I post a lot...also in the observer thread which does not count..thus just gave up...if he pays I'll get what I get and then keep better track from that point onward
