Some  of you guys seem to act like you are eternal holder.s  Whats the point of making money if you never spend it and enjoy yourself.  Never know how long you will live and you can enjoy it a lot more when your younger.

Crypto IMHO, is 'speculation' not 'investment'. It is the closest thing to finding out about 'a venture capital investment' that I will ever have...as insider billionaires do. (2013).

Thus, IF you think there are really only going to be 21 million BTC and 86% have already been mined and BTC is like 'virtual land'. It is hard not to HODL.

IF you put in $$$ you can afford to lose. That is the real kicker. Investments are stuff you probably can't afford to lose. Speculation on crypto/land or whatever is a different beast.

So it is not that I'm not selling yet (besides panicking at about $3,965 USD BTC price (the horror) of 13 BTC. (now down to only 8 BTC from that). I have an out price after that bit of

backsliding, I will likely be buried with 50% of the BTC Hoard, before selling if it does go tulips. that is my floor.

Anyway, my panic sell aside, when all looked going to sh*t., that is what a lot of us are in HODL mode for. The above way of looking

at how BTC/Blockchain/etc MAY evolve. (again calculated risk and speculation)

It is that the blockchain is not like the Internet run back in the day. If you think 'adoption' is coming. Back in the day with the internet, there was NO

money in the 'backbone' internet itself...it was in the 'applications' (Yahoo, Google, Amazon, eBay, etc). With Bitcoin and the blockchain (the bet is) the

money will NOT be in the applications exclusively but reflected in the PRICE of bitcoin as the infrastructure of BTC and applications are developed.

Thus the 'virtual land' analogy. I certainly am in no position now to mine the BTC I did from 2013, thus if I have drunk the kool-aid, this is the HODL plan.

People confuse buying BTC and crypto as an investment...eh...kinda....but to me it is more a speculative venture capital bet that could still go (I hope)

way bigger then we've seen in the past.

If this was ALL about money, I'd have sold my first year, when it went up 10x and taken my 10k and left the table.

I am enamored with the possibilities and not looking exclusively at the liabilities...thus I guess that is what a HODL'er means at this point in time.

Anyway, how I see this. Dubious or not. (then again, I did as stated above, panic and sell 13 BTC (recouped 4 so far), so consider the source on the above rant)

According to this graph made by PlanB, after the halving of 2024 his model is calling a BTC price of USD 400,000.

So I will be able to afford a brief holiday not on public holiday putting an end to all of this:

I can’t wait.
I’m here for the tech, btw.

Nothing wrong with being here for the tech & the luxurious lifestyle the halving in 2020 could give you.
I’ll be selling possibly half of my stash after the next halving & I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Yeah, I'd crack like a walnut to around then as well.

By the way, why does a Legendary have a 'copper membership' ...I find it curious? Just helping the bitcointalk cause was the reason?

but yeah, did not crack on the way down, but likely to crack and sell some on the way up to 10k again...(panic: it is how I roll) Smiley

1583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: April 28, 2019, 05:16:03 PM
A question on LTC mining. (I'm out as of now..just curious).

Bitmain has a deal I heard of $80 million dollars of equipment with Utility Swap for excess Hydro Power above and beyond use (wasted) with various

China Utils in a 50/50 swap of some sort for essentially free electric for 1/2 the mining on equipment already owned. (I'd like that deal).

https://www.coindesk.com/bitmain-bitcoin-mining-farms-antminer

Anyway, has anyone heard if Bitmain is doing the same in mass with LTC mining, or is this all or mostly just BTC as a purely, summer operation for 4 months or so

till the expected excess hydro from excessive rainfall in China is burned up?

Folk have said from the BTC mining side they expect a jump in difficulty over the summer due to the above of at least 33% if not more...before Bitmain's

past equipment (BTC) is no longer profitable even for them. The last hurrah as it were...just wondering if we needed to watch our back on LTC mining as well

with the above and are included in such a cluster of 33% rise in difficulty for LTC as well.

later

edit: according to the article above it was like 7.9% increase for Bitmain doing BTC..but other sources I've heard said closer to 33% if they take off

from the BCH network. We will see. Damn, a 33% difficulty in LTC would really suck...even a 5-10% would suck for the age of scrypt-pow miners out there

in the world, even figuring they have already paid for themselves (mostly Bitmain L3's and L3+'s I'd assume)

Chinese Curse: May you live in interesting times. Smiley

yeah...I got a really bad feeling about the coming weeks

Pussy.

I'm doing an extra morning set of 10 reps with my titanium plates. I feel no pain. The only way is up.

True...just saying.....not a big fan of the tether scam...it could get ugly...and on the above I said "coming weeks" Smiley

Wow!!!!!

jojo and Searing are dee same peep.

Ack! Been Found Out! Ack! (or are you saying JoJo is my soul mate...(heart flutter) Smiley
1585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: I’ve been in Bitcoin for 5 years, and USDT is the greatest threat I’ve seen! on: April 27, 2019, 09:18:55 PM
currently www.coinmarketcap.com shows the following below:

 Tether    $2,833,165,389    $0.995200    $10,889,763,981    2,846,831,291 USDT *    0.60%

So ASSUMING that 850 million is in the wind/doubt on this. Tether has 10.889 Billion Dollars, they likely will 'weather' this storm.

As to the 'backwash' to the rest of us in BTC and or whatever..remains to be seen...

1586  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 27, 2019, 09:15:58 PM

Responsibility of "being your own bank" would minimally suggest that we make meaningful efforts to back up our seed words.

It is possible that our Trezor could get run over by a boat, or fall into the depths of the Andaman Sea.

Having this kind of drama about a possible defective device with an experienced bitcoiner makes little sense to me, especially if the amount on the Trezor is anywhere in the territory of 2 bitcoins or more.

Paper Wallet. Water Proof Bag. Safety Deposit box in a Bank. I figure if things are so bad the gov't wants my BTC and/or the bank gets hit by a meteorite or something....the crypto gods simply hate me. Anyway, how I roll on the HODL wallets.

"seized and safeguarded"

istr dialing the webpage directly lol

dial up multi-line BBSing was the the thing in my day.

i remember using telnet and lynx back when you could still get pure text web pages.

yer a young whipper-snapper..  I got started on 300 baud modems and single line BBS's.... Oh yeah, and dialing up MUDS was just totally awesome...

I still have a Pavlovian response to just thinking about the sounds of the modem carrier/connect/negotiation sequence...

ahh.. the good ole' days...

Heh...my first bbs was an Apple ][ with 6 floppy drives...we would burn out a psu 1x a month.....AppleNet Dos Lost Gonzo BBS.

I was able until 2009 to still run this bbs via internet and wg 3.20 bbs and dialout option...as a door ...only 1 person at a time along with another tpro 4.2f RPG

bbs .....and FV/Metal 4.0xex BB too, .if you died in the RPG you got d/c phone. Had legacy systems along with Inet www bbs's.

Dumped all 5 towers etc in Jan 2009...no one told me about

bitcoin or I would have just turned them to that because I was bored (alas) Sad At least I'd fallen into BTC in 2013.

I guess I can't just assume a campaign is OK if it is on bitcointalk...found out they can be NOT OK and kicked out after the fact.....should  have

done my research and had the 20 posts a day ring a bell at least spam wise...whatever...know better now hopefully...

(anyway live an learn)

brad

By any chance did you sig get replaced with the words

"Am I spamming? Report me!"

Saw a few members rocking that sig.

You might know about this already but the ChipMixer campaign will also let you retain your hat. Might be worth firing off a PM to Darkstar_ to inquire. He will make special exceptions for Legendaries even if the campaign is full.

yeah...I had the tag briefly (slut campaign walk of shame....) Sad   But was not spamming like most (9 posts = $12.95 in BTC sheesh....) So was unbanned with an appeal of trying to figure out what was what. At first, I thought it was just my Yobit plug under my avatar picture..when I sent such. Was reviewed, seen I was not spamming posts and kicked back in here with the rest of the bitcointalk lunatics again.

I Was unaware. Figured Sig Campaigns were
vetted before the fact...not slap'd down after the fact...was kinda still mucking thru my yobit scam hate mail in pm's trying to sort it out when Thermos slam'd the door shut.

live and learn

brad

Not sure but it may have been chipmixer that did not take my IP being in the USA...but I'm likely confused...will check again...some campaigns (poker) won't let me log in to join

with my USA IP. (static) Go figure.

I'll look at it again.

1592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 25, 2019, 04:13:01 AM
Damn...
129 users who were wearing a yobit signature and had at least 1 good report against them in the last 14 days are banned for 14 days. All yobit signatures are wiped. Signatures containing "yobit.net" are banned for 60 days.

Some people were talking about neg-trusting spammers for spamming. This is not appropriate; report the posts, and if that doesn't seem to be working well, come to Meta with specific examples and suggestions.

oh wow

I hope Searing didn't get caught up in that

Searing is a kind of goodie goodie two shoes.   Wink

I got slap'd on that. I guess Yobit is more of a hot button than I knew. To me a good exchange or bad exchange you don't leave $$$ or crypto on any...even

the good ones eventually have issues like cryptopia...but in hindsight....yobit...20 posts a day max and $1.43 a post legendary (I did not spam thus got a reprieve only

9 posts in the yobit area mostly trying to figure out how yobit works and why the hate)

Anyway, the only campaign that let me keep my HAT...(damn, thus blithely signed up because of that and mossey'd into the frying pan)

anyway, back to campaigns that only let me in if I get rid of my avatar and hat (alas!)...but yeah...I can see why thermos killed this campaign dead...

serious money/spam etc....but after fees I did on my 9 posts make $12.93 USD Smiley

So I guess I can't just assume a campaign is OK if it is on bitcointalk...found out they can be NOT OK and kicked out after the fact.....should  have

done my research and had the 20 posts a day ring a bell at least spam wise...whatever...know better now hopefully...

the markets are now playing crazy at the moment
i cant explain why alts are not pulling with the bitcoin.
at the big fall of btc the prize of alts were always with the btc
but now the btc is rising and many alts dont have any growth?
it makes me a bit angry but not personally to anyone im just mad about it because its so unfair
and cant find an explanation for this why the alt market is so frozen up and bit pessimistic.
sometimes i also have the feel that indicates dont play any role in this. so many cool projects but it doesnt affect the market at all.
strange strange. btc is allright but alts are sleeping, never seen such a parallelistic movement

right now the reason alts are behind is that people are selling alts for bitcoin and bleeding them out..thus the universal drain down in price for altcoins

USUALLY, this only goes so far than the altcoins also rise in price later....if BTC price crashes say 10-15% that will put the current alt prices in cement

and probably sideways in price...so BTC needs to stay sideways for a bit for altcoin prices to go up...and/or rise in price.

Anyway, (I know zip) how I usually look at this at least initially.

1594  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Sparks Imminent Crypto Bull Stampede with 44% Gains in 2019 on: April 23, 2019, 07:13:22 PM

1595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The problem of getting bitcoin in the future on: April 23, 2019, 07:09:29 PM
The halving in 1 year plus.

The fact that 86% of all BTC has already been mined. So maybe whales/folk will fight and raise price

for the remaining 14% BTC left?

Mining difficulty at ATH but price of btc is 3/4 of what it was 1 year ago

fun times (not!)

It affects security and challenges the state power of Thailand and it is intolerable," he said.

How fragile must the state power of Thailand be when a floating bathtub challenges it? Perhaps they should fire torpedoes at every fish that enters their waters too, just to be extra safe.
I hope the US threatens sanctions against those fuck heads for even threatening a US citizen with death over something so silly.

Sh*t nothing will be done. As you can see below as long as the USA can make $$$ no sanctions....as soon as US President thinks $$$ are lost...then sanctions....

use the sanction stick on below and it would be fixed fast IMHO.

https://www.cnn.com/2013/07/04/world/detained-americans-fast-facts/index.html

As to the SeaStead problems. Seems to me the Thai Gov't is more upset that permits and such were granted for such w/o their knowledge and now are going ape shit

on an internal Thai Gov't witch hunt to boot. SeaStead was a symptom of corruption, it is just now the excuse to come down on everyone in Thai Gov't who sanctioned this

IMHO, and if it grabs a 'rich' American that can bribe his way out...that is just gravy.

edit: pulled the trigger at $78.14 USD per LTC. Smiley

edit: I see the price as of 4/24 is $72.39...nice to see I still have it....wrong way Searing....I got skills in the 'wrong' direction on buying crypto!

1598  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tom Lee said Bitcoin Misery Index Never Been Reported in Bear Market on: April 22, 2019, 04:00:12 PM
Just this year he already said this:

MAR 15, 2019

Bitcoin Price Breakout Scheduled for August, Says Fundstrat’s Tom Lee

APR 06, 2019

Fundstrat Global Advisors Co-Founder Thomas Lee: Bitcoin Is Back in a Bullish Trend

APR 12, 2019

Tom Lee’s Bitcoin Misery Index Hits Highest Value Since 2016 in Possible Bull Signal

I wonder how long it would take for him to go back to making super-exaggerated predictions

Yeah, he 'supposedly' makes his claims by past actions on BTC. But then again if that worked..there never would have been issues with 1999

dot com crash nor this last deep recession we had that started in 2007, back when.

He has NEVER as far as I can tell, posted a 'bear' position. Just saying. Hope he is dead on, but dubious of his 'methods' on all his predictions.

1599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: April 22, 2019, 03:12:22 PM
Do you really think SIA has any chance with big cryptocurrency market players as EOS, Dash and many more which are going to implement wide range of hosting services?
I am afraid will be extremally high for SIA to survive, but maybe I am wrong, or maybe there is a market niche when SIA still could have its chance?

My issue is the storage option...I don't see the adoption and/or a method for small fry to build anything that can compete. If the storage solution by sia-tech is

simply to get 'big data halls' to use the network...again not seeing it.

No one ever got fired from IT from using Amazon Cloud...one look at the current sia-tech solution would get your ass handed to you and out the door on a review.

So it is not there yet. (data halls or big institutions using the storage framework) and no push of cheerleaders (IMHO) of small home-based setups as impractical.

Meanwhile, you have ASIC's driving up the difficulty too big levels and sia-tech more interested in equipment sales..so it all looks way out of wack to me and overblown

in those areas and miserly in the actual adoption and such on their supposed storage solution.

Seems to me the gap between the 3rd leg on this stool is too deep to be overcome at this point....price of sia coin will dive...no network  to support these tokens

to be used on a storage network that is not really there (large enough) and complete and decentralized yet.

This looks a lot like ButterFly Labs Scam. You promote a lot, get the equip out the door to protect you against SEC and use corporate bankruptcy if it all goes 'poof'

as your fall back postioin....keeping accumulated profits/crypto/BTC from the entire enterprise (mostly equip) up to the point the balloon pops.

Again, the storage solution is why I got into sia-coin and it looks to me 2 years behind everything else with all the emphasis on hash rate difficulty rise and the sale

of equipment.

Enlighten me if I am in error, but just don't see it. Use small words..I'm stressed Sad
1600  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 21, 2019, 10:54:30 PM

What I can't see is if we are all depending on crypto adoption how anyone would or could than socially or otherwise BTC could come back and moon from $1,000

is beyond me. It goes that low and we are toast IMHO in that all adoption (newbies) would dry up and the HODL folk like myself would dump way more than 1/2 their

hoard before that $1,000 price. Just can't see it as working at that level with the amount of FUD and PRESS gleefully pumping our demise to the masses at those price levels.

To me 'adoption' is a fragile flower...it simply could not come back at a $1,000 dump level. The Fud'sters would win IMHO if that was to happen.

Nobody knows shit. And he's proven himself to not know shit by stating upfront that everything that is not BTC is going to zero. Everything that is not BTC is largely worthless indeed but not enough people will ever agree with his wee opinion.

As for $1000, if it happened this year it would be alarming but a lot less alarming than if it was still considerably lower than it is now in a couple of years.

I agree I know zip. Just saying that as new (if we are in the accumulation phase of crypto and BTC) and we take a hit down to 1,000 for BTC.  I still think that would be 'all she wrote' at this price

and level of adoption. Indeed the powers that be in the world against open source bitcoin would simply use that price as a 'way' to move in and take over from BTC dominance. Yes, sorry to say

no real adoption and people are that stupid to believe in a bank coin.

Anyway, not that I think BTC is going to $1,000 but that would be the terms above I'd be freaking out about if it did. Sad
