2101  Other / Meta / Re: Overall I'm quite happy with the forum on: April 04, 2018, 10:39:48 AM
@TheQuin, There might be a few decent threads in Bitcoin Discussion, but I think that the section does attract more junk than other sections. I'd consider threads with 1 sentence in the OP to be junk, there are a lot of those.

The merit system was definitely a good addition IMO, I'm noticing some change in my own posting behavior. With merits, I feel like there's an added incentive to create valuable topics.
At least for me, it gives me some extra motivation to spend, say, half an hour or more on a single thread. Before, I don't think I would have bothered -that much- making threads like that.

Just an example, where I created my first overview thread (the one I talked about in the OP):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3242065.msg33764649#msg33764649

I hope it's okay to link the thread as an example...
2102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Overview of Universal Basic Income Projects on: April 04, 2018, 10:37:10 AM
Thanks for the nice comments Emma! I'm still planning on improving it, so if anyone has any suggestions which information I could add to the OP, please reply.
I'm currently thinking of adding a link to the whitepaper and Bitcointalk thread if applicable. Can't really think of anything else to add.

Maybe I'll try and update some of the descriptions, some of these projects don't really have much information on their website.
2103  Other / Meta / Overall I'm quite happy with the forum on: April 03, 2018, 11:20:04 PM
Everybody is usually pretty negative about the state of the forum, here in the Meta section. I'd like to bring some change to that and mention why I think that the forum is actually a pretty good place (for me at least). I know there are still valid issues, but I'll just focus on the positive.

While there is still a pretty big amount of spam in the forum, I'm also seeing many really interesting topics pop up. You're not going to find them in the 'Bitcoin Discussion' section though... The other sections are pretty interesting, the rate at which the discussion is flowing is pretty amazing. Just the other day, I posted a new topic in 'Altcoin Discussion' and it got to the 3rd page in about 10 - 20 minutes. While I didn't get any replies, it was pretty amazing to see that there is so much content added every few seconds.

I'd personally rather have the forum being as active as it is now, with spam + good content, than to see an inactive forum with only good content.

Also, think about the utility this forum has... The Services section has tons of offers etc. It's more active than most of those 'Bitcoin freelance' websites or subreddits.

Maybe the interesting technical talk has largely moved away to other mediums, but I still think this forum is a great place. Even if people are incentivized to post here, some of them still add quality content. I'll gladly deal with the spammers, as long as there are still people adding valuable content to the forum.

Just wanted to add something positive to the Meta section. Criticism is a good thing, but positivity is also nice for a change!
2104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Girls in crypto? Guys and Girls weigh in. on: April 03, 2018, 10:54:36 PM
I'm not really sure if I personally see any barriers that are holding women back from joining the crypto community.
For the most part, I think that our community is pretty welcoming to all people, so maybe it's just that cryptocurrency doesn't really appeal to to women?

That said, I have a couple of female friends that are actively investing in crypto, so I don't think it's right to over-generalize too much...

The best thing you could do is just try to involve more of your friends, let them know what's interesting about crypto for you.
I'm also not a big fan of women-only or men-only channels, people of all gender/sex/orientation are welcome in the mainstream crypto channels anyway.

It is simply not in the line of interest for women. I find that most of them are not interested about it. Some get curious at first but lose interest because it's too "technical" for them. Bitcoin itself is not sexist. It's totally accessible to women as much as it is for men so there's no issue on that. It's just that women choose not to use it for themselves voluntarily due to lack of interest.

Well that's basically what I'm saying, except that there are still some women that are interested or could be interested in crypto.
Interest isn't something that's gained 'instantly', usually there are a few external factors that contribute to developing interest for something.

I don't want to turn this into a whole 'nature vs nurture' debate, but it would be short sighted to say that social factors play no role whatsoever.

2106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] At what price will they force YOU to sell your btc to them? FOR GOOD on: April 02, 2018, 05:34:27 PM
I'm continuously buying, selling and saving Bitcoin so none of those responses are really applicable to me.
Sometimes I will sell a small amount of BTC if I want to purchase something, but I'll always keep a good amount of BTC in cold storage.

I don't think I'd ever sell all of the Bitcoins that I own, not even when it's headed towards 0 dollars.
2107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Overview of Universal Basic Income Crypto Projects [24 Projects Listed] on: April 02, 2018, 02:25:50 PM
I've compiled a list with some interesting projects that want to implement a form of basic income through cryptocurrency and blockchains. For now, I've just added a link to their website and some basic publicly available information. In the future I'll add more information to this list, if people are interested.

I'm not that good in creating these extensive and visually appealing threads, so apologies for the not-so-compact layout. Definitely let me know in the comments if you know any other related projects that I could add!

What is Universal Basic Income?
Quote
A basic income (also called basic income guarantee, citizen's income, unconditional basic income, universal basic income (UBI), basic living stipend (BLS) or universal demogrant) is typically described as a new kind of welfare regime in which all citizens (or permanent residents) of a country receive a regular, liveable and unconditional sum of money, from the government. From that follows, among other things, that there is no state requirement to work or to look for work in such a society. The payment is also, in such a pure basic income, totally independent of any other income. An unconditional income that is sufficient to meet a person's basic needs (at or above the poverty line), is called full basic income, while if it is less than that amount, it is called partial. Basic income can be implemented nationally, regionally or locally. Some welfare systems are related to basic income but have certain conditions. For example, Bolsa Família in Brasil is restricted to poor families and the children are obligated to attend school. A related welfare system is negative income tax. Like basic income, it guarantees everyone (where everyone can mean, for example, all adult citizens of a country) a certain amount of regular income. But unlike a basic income with the same amount for all negative tax means that the amount is gradually reduced with higher labor income.

* Important information about Manna:
Quote
According to the whitepaper, the vast majority of existing monetary base is held by the founders and close associates:

-19% directly by the founders

-36% donated to Mannabase, a company directly controlled by their foundation

-17% paid to "dozens" of developers and technical staff

Another 9% was mined into circulation, and there is a strong probability that the early miners and the founders are one and the same. A grand total of 6% was given away as UBI but they promise to give more away by a complex process that seems very centralized.

It's essentially a UBI-branded premine: if you make us filthy rich we promise to make the world a better place. Certainly a splash of color in a crypto space that seems to be dominated by those who exploit more basic human impulses.

I did use Blockchain.info quite extensively until about a year ago, but have since then switched over to a desktop wallet (Electrum)
I was having too many issues with it and no longer felt safe using it as one of my main wallets.

Definitely remember not being able to send any transactions because of an error in their wallet and having to wait more than 24 hours for the problem to be solved.

So, I've voted 'don't use it currently' (and probably never will again)

Hope we get more votes for the current second place coin!
2110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 40% of BTC daily Volume is Japanese on: April 02, 2018, 11:25:51 AM
I thought it was common knowledge and then people started to post that they do not believe it

It might be common knowledge that Japan makes up for a big part of the Bitcoin trading volume, but once you start to post actual statistics, they always have to be accompanied by a source for those numbers.
You see it in this thread, you said 40% while it was actually 53%. This could have been avoided if you had just added it to the OP in the first place.

Now I would like to hear from some other people what they think about the source of those numbers.
Does cryptocompare.com take all exchanges into account for those numbers?
2111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 40% of BTC daily Volume is Japanese on: April 02, 2018, 10:53:47 AM
It's not completely true as there are some volume in Japan that is being manipulated( volume is beeing faked), by anyway, I can't see any problem with that as Japan is a country that is friendly to bitcoin, so more and more citizens buy bitcoin because the local government supports it.
Also don't forget the payment system in Japan that gives you the ability to pay with bitcoin at almost every store in Japan.

It is not Fake, there are published statistics to prove it.

Then post a source to those statistics and stop making low-quality threads like this. Throwing a tantrum isn't going to make anyone believe what you're saying.
If I had the power to grant you negative merit, I'd do so immediately for this thread.

Edit:

DO YOUR RESEARCH: OVER 40 PERCENT OF  BTC DAILY VOLUME IS JAPANESE

https://www.cryptocompare.com/coins/btc/analysis/JPY

53 PERCENT

Fair enough, but you could have posted that in the OP.
2112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 40% of BTC daily Volume is Japanese on: April 02, 2018, 10:31:09 AM
FFS learn to post a source when you make claims like that...
The only thing I could find about this was an article from January 2018 and the article itself doesn't list any sources for those numbers.

https://atozmarkets.com/news/japan-bitcoin-trading-volume-increases

I read that 40 percent of BTC daily volume is Japanese and 40 of BTC is owned by whales.

40 what is owned by whales? 40%?

2114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: KYCs (Know your Client) is killing crypto on: March 30, 2018, 07:53:23 PM
When I was starting to get involved in crypto-currency, one of its features that attracts me is the privacy it gives you. Now with all those KYC being required in exchanges and in ICOs and other platforms, some people are beginning to be hesitant in their activities in crypto.

Why would someone be hesitant if he's not doing illegal? Actually, it gives more credibility to the market and it helps us to prove that we are against money laundering and cryptocurrencies are not made to be used for drugs and other criminal activities.

I don't agree at all with that, I would not trust most of these exchanges with any of my personal information and documents. That's how you become a victim of identity theft.
Besides, KYC is a thing from the USA, I don't see why they need to impose it on the rest of the world.

I couldn't care less that Bitcoin is being used for illegal stuff, it's the same with cash, bank accounts etc.
2115  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How should I implement p2p selling of online goods? on: March 30, 2018, 04:57:46 PM
Yeah don't over-complicate this, it should be fairly easy to set up something without using smart contracts.
Are you building this website from scratch or are you using xsome kind of CMS? Perhaps there's a plugin that does most of the work for you?

I know that there are Wordpress extensions that have this exact functionality.
2116  Economy / Economics / Re: Google ban cryptocurrency Ads ( maybe their joke of the year ) on: March 30, 2018, 12:59:21 PM
Now there are blockchain companies that are suing Google, Facebook, and twitter for banning all of the advertising related to encrypted money!

Google's ban on all encryption money related advertising will only be implemented in June!

Care to give a source for that? I hate it when people post these claims without providing any news sources to back it up.
I can't find any articles that back up your claims, so I assume you're just making stuff up to increase your post count...
2117  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Exchanger for tainted Bitcoins - anonymous-btc.com on: March 30, 2018, 12:13:32 PM
Nice research SFR10, but since OP is running his website on clearnet, I suspect it wouldn't be too difficult for law enforcement to track him down.
I still stand by my statement that this is probably very much against the law. Especially since he's explicitly advertising it as money laundering...

Yeah I wouldn't trust this at all, for one it's worse than an actual mixer. You have no guarantee that you'll even get your coins back.
Once they trace a large amount of 'tainted' coins back to this website, their server will be taken down and bye bye anonymity.
2118  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto Squad - Investing for friends and familiy on: March 30, 2018, 12:08:10 PM
Neat idea actually, but where will the funds be stored? I wouldn't feel too safe if all those coins would reside in an online wallet.
I really do like the concept of these small-scale community investments, it's definitely something that I would introduce to my family or friends, if it's all secure.

I'll sign up for early access to check it out.

It's too late for me, I've already locked my coins through a timelock, no turning back for me.
See you in 2019 when Bitcoin's either at 50k or maybe it has crashed to zero by then, I don't care either way. What's done is done.
2120  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Exchanger for tainted Bitcoins - anonymous-btc.com on: March 30, 2018, 10:11:28 AM
How do you do this legally? You're basically admitting on your website that you're offering a money-laundering service for criminals.
You have your real name and address on there...

Don't you think that the police would be seizing your servers, once someone uses your service to launder a big amount of coins?
