1141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit Inc. lays off 70% of their employees!! on: December 04, 2018, 03:34:26 PM
I don't think they have any plans on pumping the coin themselves, they're actually selling Steem every week to keep operations afloat.
Yeah Medium is a lot better quality wise, but things have somewhat improved on Steemit compared to the early days.

There's still a lot of spam though...
1142  Economy / Gambling / Re: ★ Crypto-Games.net ★4 Years Old ★HUGE wagering contest ★10 million roulette bets on: December 04, 2018, 03:27:08 PM
~snip~
Have fun dealing with stupid mod name lutin or some shit like that ms.know it all
Just get away from site there referral system is bs!! You can have 100 referral who wager everyday after a month or two they start to decrease your commission and tell you that your referrals isn’t playing anymore! TRUST ME I BEEN THERE AND SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!! We moved over to stakes, bitdouble, bitsler, way more fun games, cool mods who actually helps in stead acting like they own the site. Just stop referring people to the site and move on

Come with proofs. It's easy: You go to "your account > rewards > invite a friend > Detailed view of invited players. (at the bottom of the page)" and then we'll compare it with your so called "coworker's" stats.

For now I'd say happy trolling.

I doubt they will come back with proofs. It's obviously a throwaway account created specifically with the intention of harassing the site where they lost some money because of bad luck. And that is only one of the possible scenarios. They can be also competitors or people paid by competitors, but I don't think that is the case with the poster in question. We've seen it so many times when people come with baseless accusations to a site's thread after losing their money on the site.

More likely is that they just created another account themselves and played with a VPN or something.
Or his 'referrals' were just playing with their faucet claims.

Never noticed any issues with my referrals, although I don't have any active ones at the moment.
1143  Other / Archival / Re: [Archived] Profit tracking. on: December 01, 2018, 08:37:04 PM
Once I've done the new version, and if you want to further use my investment overview in your articles, we can discuss if and how you can use those new charts and tables

Okay, that's completely fine by me. Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply, only just noticed.

1145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit Inc. lays off 70% of their employees!! on: December 01, 2018, 01:07:10 PM
I never understood their model anyway. They basically did what medium has been doing for years but added money to it as well. I mean it is great and all when there is money involved but when the market is like this no one wants to give out money, even at a small fractions they want to keep their money to themselves.

Hence, there has been a very steep decline in interest towards steemit and many moved on to medium once again, or basically moved back to medium to be precise since that was the original one. Steemit will be dealing with these troubles for a lot long time unless prices go back up again, if that doesn't happen I can see them closing shop eventually. They won't be done anytime soon for sure but they will get smaller and smaller in time and eventually there will be no need to keep it up.

I think you're misunderstanding one thing about Steemit. When you upvote someone (aka giving out money), you don't actually lose money yourself.
The value of your upvote is determined by the amount of Steem Power (vested steem) in your account. You also receive curation rewards for upvoting other people.

Okay, you could also just self-upvote or delegate that Steem Power to bots for increased rewards, but I haven't personally seen a decline in received upvotes.

The upvote bots are a far greater problem IMO. The whole trending page is filled with artificially upvoted posts.
This causes great disillusion for new members, who see these posts get +$200 in rewards, thinking that they can also achieve that.
When they find out that they're stuck on earning $0.10 for a post, they usually find out that it's pretty hard to make any sort of money there.

You really need to join many different communities in order to organically get rewards.
1146  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to know if someone places a big order on: November 30, 2018, 05:56:39 PM
I'm not aware of any tools but you could build your own. You could use the API of the exchanges that you want to keep an eye on, most of the time It should be the most known ones because whales won't risk their money with exchanges that are not reputable, and just check the order book when there is an order above a specific amount that you consider as a 'whale' order.

Wouldn't many of the whales rather use OTC exchanges done in private, just so they can get a custom price and they don't broadcast their trades?
Talking about massive amounts here, not 'just' a couple thousand BTC of course.

That said, I do wish there was an app that notifies you of big trades on the highest volume exchanges.
Would be pretty handy indeed.
1147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: project Arbolet.net on: November 30, 2018, 02:52:59 PM
The design is really something I can't look at for a long time.
Everything just seems to be way overcrowded, I don't know where to look first honestly.

Then, I also recognize design elements that you clearly got from Pixabay or some other Public Domain image website.
I mean a website like this should really pay for a proper design.
1148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fiat or crypto betting in bear market? on: November 30, 2018, 02:00:53 PM
I personally don't mind gambling when the market is down like this, I just apply different bet sizes.
Now I can spend a little bit more funds in Bitcoin for example, then I would when the price was still higher than today.

Since I've started betting in cryptocurrency casinos, I've never even deposited to a fiat casino.
I don't want to wait days until my withdraw is 'reviewed' or whatever.
1149  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Coldbit - New stainless steel seed backup design on: November 30, 2018, 11:50:43 AM
I'm happy to announce that my package has arrived!
it's definitely a very heavy-duty steel slab, that's for sure Tongue

Thanks for including those earplugs, something I wouldn't have thought about myself.

1150  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Decentralised exchanges. Will they survive? on: November 30, 2018, 10:47:13 AM
What worries me most with regards to decentralized exchanges, is the precedent that the case against EtherDelta has set.
Would anyone be willing to start a decentralized exchange in the future, when the US government can just come along and give out fines for running an unregistered securities exchange?

https://www.ccn.com/will-etherdelta-charges-lead-to-the-demise-of-decentralized-crypto-exchanges/

Just a disclaimer, I'm not a fan of all of CCN's reporting, but this particular article does raise some fair concerns.
1151  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Sponsorship of scientific research with BTC on: November 30, 2018, 09:34:02 AM
Look, I'd have no problem donating some money towards interesting research.

The thing is, this isn't really interesting for me. I mean, the topic is just way too general.

Quote
Our project is to launch a great scientific research to understand what the consumer thinks TODAY about the brands. How it consumes, what its decisions and uncertainties, how it relates, in short, what is brand for it.

I don't see how this is "great" scientific research. Sounds like a study that a company would do, to see what its customers think about their brand.
Given the fact that you're listed as a marketing director on LinkedIn, this seems to be closer to the truth.

What university are you affiliated with? Why can't you get funding through the university?
1152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tokens staking actual ? What projects now give such an opportunity? on: November 30, 2018, 09:06:35 AM
Well, there are a number of websites which list coins that offer staking rewards, usually POS coins, but also coins that offer the possibility to invest in masternodes.
Here's one I've found on this forum a while ago: https://stakingrewards.com/

It gives you an overview of how much ROI you can make and what kind of initial investment it requires.
1153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This person made $500,000 with gambling and lost it all within 60 seconds! on: November 29, 2018, 03:05:06 PM
I agree much with you. I never heard of anyone that is rich from gambling. I’ve heard of a lotto millionaire but that one, his money didnt stay long with him also. I believe in the saying, “easily got is easily lost”. Why? Because you didnt work hard for it so you will not care if you lost it too. So it is true, you will never really be rich in gambling.
I do see one of my co-workers did able to hit the jackpot on lottery.Lifestyle did upgrade and spent all the money on gambling again and
after a year he came back on his original status ( a normal 8 hours worker) and starts to regret on what he have done but its already too late since he cant
take it back on those money that shouldnt be spend unwisely.

That's one single case, I'm absolutely sure that there are stories of people winning it big and never gambling again.
Of course you don't hear from these people, since it doesn't contain any drama.

I absolutely believe that people can gamble responsibly, you just tend to hear more about the problematic gamblers.
1154  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Toilet - www.bittoilet.com is now live! on: November 29, 2018, 02:47:17 PM
Tough times in the market call for tough measures. The bitcoin toilet is a site where you can flush your bitcoins (or shitcoins), and it has a small easy to find Easter Egg. Have fun guys, and don't forget to flush on your way out, its good manners.

P.S I believe in honesty. This will put the The Bitcoin Toilet a notch above those scam sites that promise you the earth, when you may as well have flushed your coins. If you take a big enough dump in here, the Easter Egg will tell you your reward that you can claim for doing so.

Ehhhhh. Whaat is the guarantee that you won't sell them off after some time? 🤔🤔🤔 And If I wanna flush my coins, I can just generate an address and don't save the private key. The coins you listed has some market value tho, if someone wants to end things with cryptocurrencies, they can just sell it off.

Look at the address mentioned on the website, of course he has access to the coins and will sell them.
It would have been better if those coins went directly to a burn address, then they would really go down the shitter.

Here's an article explaining how to basically burn your Bitcoins:

1155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin doesnt only consume too much electricity, it destroys the environment on: November 29, 2018, 12:30:13 PM
In my opinion, we are currently in a state of times full of sophisticated technology. There have been a lot of renewable energy that are environmentally friendly, indeed all technology is indeed not in all places. But I am optimistic that this can happen in the next few years. If analyzed, cryptocurrency is very suitable with the situation in the future, when technology is growing, we need financial transaction media that also have support. For me Bitcoin and Altcoin can be a strong financial system and also have many benefits compared to the conventional financial system at the moment.
The use of energy by industries such as those that are even used in crypto mining usually has adverse effects on the environment and even humans. In this technological era, as the world develops through the industrial revolution in technology, there is the need to preserve the environment from the harmful effects that the use of energy resources comes with.

But is it really those mining companies fault? Our whole society needs a complete overhaul to be able to curb climate change.
There needs to be a change from the ground up, it's not individual companies that should shoulder all the additional costs of getting to a point where they're carbon neutral.

Western civilizations are always bragging about how good they're at recycling for example. Until you find out they're sending the majority of their trash to third world countries.
Now that China has stopped accepting their waste, they're looking at other countries, where there's even less regulations.

As long as we can't work together on this, on a world-wide scale, nothing will be fixed before it's too late.
1156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit Inc. lays off 70% of their employees!! on: November 29, 2018, 12:01:30 PM
Do you believe everything they say? They just claimed 70% of the Team to fix their profits. And they themselves have undermined their ecosystem with the latest revelation. And even now in Steemit such a number of bots that perhaps this site will come to an end.

Where do I state that I believe everything they say? I'm pretty active on Steemit, so I've seen some first hand responses from the community.
What is it that you don't believe from this statement? The reasons given?

About the bots you've mentioned. Yeah that's a pretty big issue indeed, they're in part responsible for the fact that it's increasingly more difficult to get any sort of decent rewards when you're not using them.
It also gives people a false sense of success, thinking they can earn hundreds of dollars for a single post. While in reality they've been upvoted by bots.
1157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Need advise which is the best crypto bookie which needs not asks for KYC! on: November 29, 2018, 11:46:49 AM
Yup, Bitcoinrush...  And Nitrogen.  Both have the best lines among all BTC bookies in the space.  But if you're into props then you're better off somewhere else.

Indeed, I've used Nitrogen quite a few times in the past and can confirm that they do not require you to send them and personal information for KYC.
I have seen a couple of so called 'scam reports' surfacing lately, but I actually think those people were in violation of their rules against multi-accounts.

Never had any issues with them personally.
1158  Economy / Speculation / Re: People who bought BITCOIN at $1000 are now starting to sell, CCN article writes on: November 29, 2018, 11:17:34 AM
Nice try CNN, I bought nearly all of mine below $1000 & I’ve only sold about 10%. Definitely holding through to after the next halvening. There will be fireworks then.

It's CCN, not CNN :p I've misread that name quite a lot too. Then I visit their website and see it has a very crappy design, sometimes with even crappier articles.
Not really a source that I'd put a lot of trust in.

They're clearly trying to profit from their name being similar to CNN's.

I mean, this particular piece of news could be true, but they're basing this of off the words of one CEO of an OTC crypto trading firm.
1159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit Inc. lays off 70% of their employees!! on: November 29, 2018, 10:48:57 AM
I believe they have other reasons behind this ordeal, part from the present situation of the market? That the market is down should not be enough basis to lay off such large number (70%) of worker, which to me is just too much.
Do they expect the market to continue to go uptrend?
Let me say other enough things and not, because of the market that has plummeted.

Well, he also mentioned rising infrastructure costs. They are working on lowering those costs though:

We have conducted our first all-hands meeting and are prioritizing all the cost reduction solutions we can accomplish in the near term, including replacing steemd plugins with hivemind, pitchforking Steem to prune the chain state size from 160gb to 0gb, AWS usage projections, DevOps solutions, reduction of Staging and Testing nodes, and eliminating redundancies.

I'm not sure how much Steem they've been selling off for keeping themselves afloat, but I suspect they are selling quite a lot on a weekly/monthly basis.
1160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Steemit Inc. lays off 70% of their employees!! on: November 29, 2018, 10:38:03 AM
The founder of Steemit, Ned Scott has announced that they have been 'forced' to layoff close to 70% of their employees, due to rising infrastructure costs & the failing cryptocurrency markets.
He made the announcement on his personal Steemit blog yesterday.

There's been an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, with people starting up initiatives to keep the Steem project going through community-run efforts.

Check out the announcement here: https://steemit.com/steem/@ned/2fajh9-steemit-update

Dear Steemians,

Steemit, Inc. is currently undergoing a structural reorganization which I believe is important to share with the community. Steemit Inc., is a private company that runs the open-source steemit.com, a decentralized app on the Steem blockchain. Steemit Inc., also uses some of its resources and engineers to contribute code updates to the Steem blockchain. In addition, we provide APIs to third party developers at our own expense to help grow the developer ecosystem.

Given the weakness of the cryptocurrency market, the fiat returns on our automated selling of STEEM diminishing, and the growing costs of running full Steem nodes, we have been forced to layoff close to 70% of the team. The remainder of the team is staying on to focus primarily on reducing the costs of the infrastructure running steemit.com and our public APIs, and ensuring that the community can remain informed of developments.

We still believe that Steem can be by far the best, and lowest cost, blockchain protocol for applications and that the improvements that will result from this new direction will make it far better for application sustainability. However, in order to ensure that we can continue to improve Steem, we need to first get costs under control to remain economically sustainable. There’s nothing that I want more now than to survive, to keep steemit.com operating, and keep the mission alive, to make great communities.

There are two reasons I’m in cryptocurrency: first, I came in because I believed in the potential of cryptocurrency to give us greater freedom through unrestricted value transfer, value store and all the financial tools that come along with that, which can empower us like few technological innovations have. The second reason I stay in cryptocurrency, is because it has the potential to spawn the next killer application that can rival the Instagrams and Reddits of the world, and that fuels the mission to make great communities, which need unrestricted access to financial tools.

Over the last many months, along with a hyper-talented team, I have gone back to the drawing board and figured out the remaining challenges that are acting as barriers in the way of that killer application and making great communities. In that time we have created many assets that will help us accomplish this mission. Over the next several weeks, despite our course for bringing these products to the world being changed, I hope to share the assets we have created with you, including showing you how their success would be a benefit to Steem and cryptocurrency in general.

I would like to thank all of our employees and contractors for their months and years of dedication and hard work. It is incredibly difficult to part with these great people who I have gotten to know well and respect. I am deeply grateful to the many contributions to our mission. In order to minimize the impact on these people, we are doing as much as we can to smooth their employment transitions. Everyone who has assisted us are outstanding individuals that any organization would be lucky to have.
