Yeah, thanks! Just checked it and indeed the minimum rain amount is 0.00015 BTC which gives you an opportunity to tip, say, 3 players with 5k sats each, if I understand it correctly. This is surely much more convenient than tipping one person with no less than 200k.

Huh, for all the time I've been playing on this website, I never knew that you could rain to other people.
Gotta remember that if I ever start gambling again, there have been many times where I've thought about tipping someone, but didn't because of the high minimum tip.

Still learning something new about CG after all these years Tongue

You can't rain directly to other players. The !rain command has a lower minimum, but the funds go to RainBot.

Gotcha, Betwrong's response made it seem as though you could rain directly to a certain number of players.
Maybe that's actually what he meant...

Already knew that you could donate to rainbot.
1422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Art Exhibition in Paris to Celebrate Bitcoin’s Tenth Birthday on: September 24, 2018, 11:56:34 AM
Very interesting, if I lived a little bit closer to Paris, I'd probably go check it out.
Just checked the Artist page on their website and they've got some really interesting artists who are involved.

The first artist shown, Coin Artist aka Marguerite deCourcelle intrigues me:

Quote
Coin Artist is an American artist, a pioneer of Crypto Art. She is the first to have hidden Bitcoin in one of her works. Three years ago (in 2014), she made an abstract painting, which contained clues to discover about 5 Bitcoins. In February 2018, a winner finally found the riddle that allowed him to recover the funds (guessing that the flames on the board border contained a code). These 5 Bitcoins were worth around $ 45,470 at the time.

I wonder if she'll pull a stunt like that again Tongue
1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is buying XRP at current price a good investment? on: September 24, 2018, 11:34:01 AM
From all ripple news, a price prediction by the end of the year is that ripple will go to $589! Should you still buy XRP at this price? Is buying XRP at current price a good investment? Is XRP could be life changing in a few years?

I don't believe for a second that Ripple would ever go to $589, if you believe that that will ever happen, I don't think you should be trading at all.
Ripple's circulating supply is way too big for it to ever reach that kind of price, certainly in such a short amount of time.

Current total supply of XRP is 99,991,841,593 XRP
Current circulating supply is 39,809,069,106 XRP

I never thought I'd see pascal again in my life let alone see a project. i'll try checking the code to see how much of it i remember.

Yeah indeed, it's been ages since I've seen a project using this language.
Reminds me of my high school days where our computer teaches would let us write small little apps in BASIC or Object Pascal later on.

Very interesting to see a wallet written in this language.

Congrats to Thelandir for hitting dice jackpot twice today with bets of 50 satoshi and 0.00128622 LTC.. what a lucky guy! Wink

Dang, that's some real luck right there, he must've made quite a lot of bets to hit 2 jackpots in one day.
I don't even want to know the odds of hitting it twice in such a short amount of time :p
1427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crime Effect of Gambling - Your thoughts! on: September 21, 2018, 05:04:53 PM
Actually, the bone of content here is that does gambling cause an increase in various kinds of related criminal activities? Few examples of the major points raised were

Criminals profit from business that is illegal. In places where gambling is legal, criminals do not profit from it.  Smiley

Gambling is similar to legalized marijuana. A big part of its negative stigma comes from illegalization and criminal activities which spring up as a result of state policy. Once legalized things become more manageable, prices decline, quality of product rises and criminal activity greatly ceases if it does not cease altogether.

Right now there are many who are demanding that governments ban and illegalize animal trophies. The downside with that type of heavy handed authoritarian approach is, making animal trophies illegal would increase their cost and give criminals yet another market to leverage for profits.

In some instances legalization of things like marijuana and gambling could be the better option, in contrast to illegalization of those things.

The thing is that aside from legalization, you'd also need somewhat strict control by the government.
Or else it is still very possible that casinos attract all sorts of illegal activities.

You can bet your ass that there are a ton of legal casinos, that do some money laundering on the side for criminals.

Legalize gambling, sure, but also build a clear set of rules around it and enforce them.
1428  Other / Meta / Re: The bitcointalk academy awards - best shit-poster fables to obtain merit on: September 21, 2018, 04:28:16 PM
I just wanted to show up and accept my award!

I would like to thank the academy for the nomination.

Also by the way I wouldn't rip the forum for being outrageous trying to stop spam and allowing signatures to continue and call out the obvious bullshitting of upper members if I was going for merit.  Not good form to rank on the people your trying to get merit from.
LOL :'D

You put quite some effort into that post and while I may not fully agree with it, still think it's pretty well written.
You've also have a point, if there were no signature campaigns, there probably wouldn't be any spam.

I'd still prefer to have signature campaigns, but I do also think you need to earn the right to participate in them.

Maybe spend some time on other parts of the forum? If you make a reply like that every time, I have no doubt that you'll eventually rank up.
1429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Increase Your Followers On Steemit on: September 21, 2018, 04:06:13 PM
That's really one of the most unethical ways of gaining followers of Steemit and I really hope that they will disallow this soon.
You're basically just mass following people in the hopes that they will follow you back.

You will never gain a real following through this method, just low-value minnow accounts.
1430  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Shapeshift Membership on: September 21, 2018, 02:54:42 PM
I was glad that I didn't have to upload any ID to get verified.
All they've asked me was the number on my passport, got verified after that.

I still think it's pretty bad that you now have to do KYC to trade between crypto, it's really starting to become the standard nowadays.
1431  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino gambler reveals 'secret no-lose betting pattern' :o on: September 21, 2018, 02:45:28 PM
It's impossible to devise a betting strategy for roulette that will make profit over the long term.

Looking at this particular betting scheme, it's basically a gambler's fallacy to believe that some numbers have higher chances of getting hit.
The part where you have to wait until certain numbers don't get hit, really shows that.
1432  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Coldbit - New stainless steel seed backup design on: September 21, 2018, 12:39:38 PM
That's a pretty reasonable price, certainly if it's closer to 70 EUR.
Given that you also get the bits for punching the letters in, you can easily sell cheaper plates without them.

4mm sounds like the perfect thickness, I wouldn't imagine that would bend, while it's still light and compact enough.

If you're ever going to release a version 2.0 of this, you might want to figure out a way to stamp entire words on.
Maybe through some kind of placeholder for individual letter bits?

Now you have to stamp one letter at a time, right? Seems that way, looking at the picture on your website.
1433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about the talk: 'Alt-coins dying off in 2019'? on: September 21, 2018, 11:41:02 AM
Most of the top altcoins would likely be fine, I'm not saying that they will all gain as much as Bitcoin will, but most of the top 50 altcoins will not suddenly disappear.
What we will see is that a large number of ICOs will go under next year. Projects that have just done an ICO as a quick money-grab, without actually having a feasible product or service to offer.

Not that this is a bad thing, the sooner people learn that they shouldn't invest in worthless projects, the better.
1434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taking a break from gambling on: September 21, 2018, 11:24:47 AM
Good luck to your decision and I hope you won't be the same as others said before but later on after a month or two they come back in action.

Having another hobby which will make you put your attention and time there would solve it. Well my story, I just got my employment that really killed my time and only got few to no more time in gambling.
Apparently, from the way he has placed gambling, I am sure even if he decides to come back to gambling, it is not like he still won’t be able to control himself. What he has done basically is to be in control, and that can only happen when you have the right mindset towards gambling and this is totally different when it comes to those who are addicted. People with the wrong mindset of trying to get rich from gambling and usually the ones that will not even find it easy at all to be making decisions like this.

Yeah I think it's entirely possible that I just don't gamble again, I mean I'm currently having more fun doing other stuff.
I'd also like to think I'm in control of myself, if I weren't this would have probably been a lot harder.

The thing is, if I hadn't stopped myself when I did, it would've been entirely possible that I would have gotten addicted.
1435  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Coldbit - New stainless steel seed backup design on: September 21, 2018, 10:53:28 AM
I really like the design of it, simple and robust, I could just bury the thing and it would probably survive decades (maybe centuries?) below the ground.
If it isn't too expensive, I'm definitely getting one when they're available. Just signed up on your website Smiley

Any idea what your price will be? Ballpark figure is fine.
1436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Drama] Dlive Ditches Steem Blockchain and Moves to the Lino blockchain on: September 21, 2018, 09:46:20 AM
Dlive, a self-proclaimed decentralized video streaming platform, has announced that they will be moving away from the Steem blockchain and instead launch their project on the new Lino chain.
They cite that reward distribution is currently handled unfairly on Steem, causing them to opt for going with Lino instead.

They are currently offering existing Dlive members 100 Lino points, if they claim their Lino blockchain account.

https://steemit.com/dlive/@wa7/dlive-is-joining-the-lino-blockchain-moving-away-from-steem

Quite a bit of drama has ensued after this announcement was made, people are accusing Dlive of 'milking' Steemit out of funds (through delegations).

This top comment by Steemit user @meno accurately displays how a large part of the Steemit community feels about this.

Quote
Of course this is all speculation, but I so happen to see a pattern here that is hard for me to ignore, very hard.

When @dlive first started they built a functioning platform without making any noise. If I remember correctly, all of the sudden, out of the blue a new platform was announced, the post went to trending and everyone lost their mind.

Without a doubt the idea of live streaming is appealing to the masses, and the success of twitch is enough to say that's not an opinion anymore. However, one would think that embarking on a project of this magnitude with the attitude of a gamble, would be done only by those who favor casinos.

I also know that @dlive is pretty much centralized, meaning that their video storage is on their servers, and that the blockchain of STEEM itself only served as a way to "point" if you will, to their links. Further prove can be observed simply by the fact that when the blockchain was halted, dlive continued to work without a glitch.

No blockchain, but yes dlive?

So I can conclude simply by using basic logic that this was designed like this intentionally. A dapp that relied on the blockchain but in the most minimal way possible, implementing more and more layers on top that were completely independent from the core blockchain.

Today we discover that @wa7 is also part of the Lino team. Meaning that this new "amazing" blockchain is at least partially his project. To me, this spells red flags in ways that I don't need to describe, not really.

My speculation

This was the plan all along. "milk" the STEEM ecosystem for funds, for months and months to circumvent regulations regarding ICOS and the pain of even running one too.

Taking a gamble on the fact that STEEMIT INC delegates to DAPPS, somebody astute yet quite machiavellic decided to "finance" and I'm using that word generously, their blockchain project on the backs of STEEM investors.

It's not overreaching to say that is quite shady, and as a member of this community, as an investor (yes, i've bought tokens), I'm very upset.

I was beginning to think the new logo contest, and even the selection of this new logo was kind of pointless. But now, seeing this even come forth, it all makes perfect sense. The idea is to detach the brand from steem thus it required a new logo. Coincidentally the new logo has a color scheme that goes well with the branding of this new blockchain. I find that to be fascinating.

Of course, at this point there is little to nothing I can do. But I did not want the @dlive team to walk away thinking they played everyone like a violin. To me, the sequence of events, the escape goating of this post onto whales, when you guys were a free whale yourself, says everything I need to know.

I hope however, that more and more steemians see through this facade and don't find you guys as the "innocent developers that the whales drove away" - Because if that is your statement, then I will have no choice but to label you as dishonest.

Farewell...

I'm just wondering how streamers will earn anything now. There is no functional reward system in place on Lino, their coin isn't traded on any exchange, so any rewards are worthless.
Streamers on Steem-based Dlive were at least making money.
1437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why creating more coins. on: September 20, 2018, 07:27:45 PM
Sure, there is a lot of overlap between projects, but proposing that every coin with similar functionality merges, will never happen.
It would just be impossible to organize a huge merger like that, no-one would agree.

Plus, they all have their own approach, good luck on getting any sort of unanimous decision on what features to add or which project to fork.

Will never happen...

Like Vod, I'm also really interested in seeing you implement an option to timelock cryptocurrency.
It would be a real shame if you didn't add it, while having a name like that for your wallet.

Plus, it would be great if timelocks become easy to perform from within a wallet.
Though you might want to disable the function by default, since it would be pretty bad if someone did it by accident.
1440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Now Moonforum.net is next Bitcointalk Forum on: September 20, 2018, 03:31:12 PM
Well good, if they take on all the spammers, then it's something Bitcointalk doesn't have to worry about anymore.
I'd be very happy if all the airdrop/ICO spam moves over there, it's not really adding anything to the forum in my opinion.
