1381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin trading volume hits record high in hyperinflationist Venezuela on: October 05, 2018, 09:52:59 AM
Bitcoin and many other altcoins have really become very popular in Venezuela, even among regular people.
I was talking a a couple of people from Venezuela the other day on Steemit and they basically pay for everything with cryptocurrency.

It's really easy for them to exchange Bitcoin/Altcoins against Bolivars, so many small local exchanges are popping up, those small exchanges' volume isn't even being measured.

A guy was telling me that he was basically feeding his entire family successfully with the little money he made on Steemit for example.
1382  Other / Archival / Re: Be Safe on: October 05, 2018, 09:35:25 AM
The recent happenings of  hack are becoming rampant that exchanges are no longer safe. If the exchanges can get hacked this means you and me stand no chance at all so in view of this if you can do get cold wallet/ Web wallet to keep ur funds safe,  never leave ur long term bags on any exchange.

Do not visit random links and also stay away from airdrops requiring your private keys or Passphrase.

Do not store your private key or passphrase online.

It's called a private key or passphrase because only you should have it and not even the developers of the app has access to it and that is why if you lose your keys you have equally lost your walllet.

You contradict yourself by recommending a web wallet. With a web based wallet, you do store your private keys online and you are not the only one with access to your wallet.
I would only recommend using a hardware wallet, especially for users that are not technically adept.

Certain desktop wallets can also be kept relatively safe, but you need to have some technical knowledge on how to do that.
I'm sure that there are people with a very secure Armory setup for example, but a hardware wallet is definitely a lot easier to use.
1383  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and the Interplanetary Frontier on: October 04, 2018, 03:55:23 PM
I really thought the article was a pretty interesting read. Okay, it might not be something for the near future, but I can definitely appreciate the thinking behind this.

It would actually make a lot of sense to use some form of cryptocurrency on interplanetary settlements. I think your idea of using lightning network for quick transactions, while relaying the transactions to the mainnet afterwards (slow), really makes a lot of sense.

I do really wonder how long it would take us to build a fully functional settlement on the moon for example. I would think that's where we'll start, seems a bit more reachable than immediately going to Mars.
1384  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What are your opinions of shapeshift on: October 04, 2018, 03:12:07 PM
Might be worth it to use another service if you want to remain anonymous, Shapeshift definitely requires KYC now.
You can always go with blocktrades or changelly.

Blocktrades doesn't have too many coins listed, but you don't even need an account to exchange crypto.
On Changelly you do need an account, but no KYC as far as I'm aware.
1385  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Marco Streng CEO Genesis Mining: Please Save Cloud Miners & the Mining Contracts on: October 04, 2018, 02:08:07 PM
Are there actually any customers of Genesis Mining who have made a profit with them in these last couple of years?
I've looked at some of the numbers in the past and always thought it was pretty much impossible to get any sort of ROI from their contracts.

I have yet to read a single good argument for investing in any of these cloud mining services.

If I would really want to mine without buying the hardware, I'd just rent a miner.
I doubt that would be profitable in these times, but I would at least know exactly what I'm getting.
1386  Economy / Economics / Re: The basis of being a poor- how little or how big? on: October 04, 2018, 01:59:22 PM
I think the basis of being a poor is the attitude of being lazy. Anyone can have work if he/she is hardworking and would not choose what work he/she must have.
Situations can be better and bad depends upon the actions of a person towards financial situations as well as other life activities which are important and should be taken care of. If you are financially challenged then you need to change your situations, you need to start a low scale business where you can make profit easily and then with your savings you can upgrade to crypto trading but the only one thing which will help you out in overall journey is your knowledge.
You have said it in the way that makes it sound so easy. What you are forgetting is that unless you have been exposed to some certain things, you see the way people do things around you to make a good living, and you get challenged to work hard and smart, towards leaving that line of poverty, it would be very hard to achieve those things you have mentioned.

Take for instance, someone who was born poor, lived in a ghetto where crime is a norm of the day, sometimes could not even get proper education, all these things limit such a person to that environment, and it usually takes some determination, sacrifice of maybe your parent to give you a good education despite everything as well as some good upbringing to be able to get out of such mentality and be able to make something out for yourself in the long run. All the same, all this is still something that will now finally ball down on the path each individual want to decide to take eventually.

I completely agree with that and I think a lot of people often make the assumption that it's all the fault of the poor person. While it is true that some people manage to escape their poor upbringings, the vast majority stay stuck in their 'social class'. It shouldn't be underestimated how difficult it can be to find a decent job, when your parents didn't put you in a good school or didn't teach you the right skills in life.

A solution would be to really try and tackle generational poverty. Give people housing and a decent education at low costs, I think that would certainly be a big step in the right direction.
1387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Brexit will impact bitcoin on: October 04, 2018, 01:46:44 PM
I personally do not see any reason why Brexit would have any sort of effect on the crypto market.
I mean, I see people responding that it will, but I've not seen them give any sort of reasoning behind those thoughts.

Haven't got the slightest idea how it has anything to do with crypto to be honest.
1388  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Get Onboard Asia's Largest Festival at Sea with Cryptocurrency! on: October 04, 2018, 01:39:09 PM
Hmm I don't know if it's such a good idea to make your advertisements look like like late 90's internet advertisement scams.
The rest of it does look pretty legit though when you visit the website.

Pretty cool that you're accepting cryptocurrency though. How long has this festival been running? Is this the first edition?
1389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto songs on: October 04, 2018, 01:29:15 PM
The first two songs weren't exactly my favorites, a little bit cringy to be honest.
The last two songs had some really good production, I'm not a big fan of rap, but definitely appreciated the third song.

The last one was my favorite, she has a great voice and the lyrics were also pretty good.

This song is just way too funny:

1390  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taking a break from gambling on: October 04, 2018, 11:18:04 AM
(...)

Do you say you quit or just take a break from gambling? Personally I think it is important, as the latter is a kind of a foot in the door, that it won't close and always let you come back.

Well, it's in the title of this thread and the original post, maybe read it before you reply?

Well, I did read the title and the OP.

Let me cite the OP again:

Lately I felt that I've been gambling a bit too much, it evolved into a weekly event where I would spend a little bit more money than I had originally planned for.
I've decided to take a break from gambling for a while, it's been 3 weeks since my last bet.

Just wanted to make this post in case someone else has any problems with this, spending more than intended, I mean.
You just kinda get into the habit without noticing at first, but you should really take immediate action when you do.

For me it was just a couple of hundred euros overspending, maybe for a month or so.
Quitting was pretty easy, just replaced the gambling with a bit more gaming and writing articles.

Having a bit of extra cash now as well, always comes in handy Smiley

Definitely share your experiences with this, if you have any.

If you need help to quit gambling:
https://www.helpguide.org/articles/addictions/gambling-addiction-and-problem-gambling.htm

I think you'll agree, that the intention (take a break or quit) is not that clear, as the OP and the title is contradictory at places. This is why I asked. There is no need to be impolite.

Okay okay, sorry that I was a little bit rude. I did not have to use the word 'quit' there the first time, will change that.
The link at the bottom is just for people who might need it. Just added that out of common courtesy for people who might realize that they might be getting addicted.

You did take the time to reply and I admit you have read the thread, so my sincere apologies to you.

Though, it was pretty clear from context that I was talking about taking a break. Plus, I added that link because someone mentioned it in a reply below.
1391  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BPIP.org Chrome Extension on: October 04, 2018, 10:40:44 AM
Just a heads up, I tested the extension in Firefox, it seems to work well.

Also tested it in Firefox 63.0b11 (64-bit) and it works like a charm.
Thanks for adding Firefox support so quickly! Installing it this way was dead easy, but I'm sure people will appreciate it being added to Mozilla Add-ons.

1392  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I have an idea, Please read this post:) on: October 04, 2018, 08:56:34 AM
International sanctions against North Korea would still apply, I think. Even if you start this new cryptocurrency to facilitate trade between the two countries, you'd probably have a lot of legal issues to deal with.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctions_against_North_Korea

I just don't really believe in this idea, I mean do you have any sort of start up capital yourself? Do you have any experience with developing a cryptocurrency?
Lastly, I think it's just an overall bad idea to go and mess with these sorts of geopolitical situations yourself.

Please do not steal or copy my ideas.

I wouldn't worry about that happening any time soon. Besides, if you don't want your ideas to get stolen, maybe not post them in different online communities.
1393  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anyone betting on PUBG? on: October 04, 2018, 08:40:01 AM
I also had no idea that you could even bet on this game. Are there actual competitions with professional gamers, like you see with CS;GO/Starcraft/Etc?
Couldn't really find any other websites offering it, so I reckon gambling on it must not be that popular.

Or am I missing something here?
1394  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Taking a break from gambling on: October 04, 2018, 08:20:58 AM
I found this thread and the reason why I posted here is that I remember one fact, Bitsler was shut down for a while. For example when you gamble on one website and trust it and then suddenly it shut downs, you may not move on other website. If you act like this, then it's a great opportunity to have a break, if you continue to gamble then again when website returns, it's your job.

Or, here's a wild idea, you can just decide for yourself that you want to take a break, like I did.
No need to wait for a website to shut down, I mean if you're going to rely on something like that happening, you're basically gambling as well Tongue

Do you say you quit or just take a break from gambling? Personally I think it is important, as the latter is a kind of a foot in the door, that it won't close and always let you come back.

1395  Other / Off-topic / Re: Question on: October 03, 2018, 12:52:31 PM
Since you're probably not that old, like you said yourself, I'd follow Steamtyme's advice and ask a parent to help you exchange your Bitcoins through an exchange.
Now, how many Bitcoins do you actually have? I can definitely tell you that it's going to be difficult exchanging small amounts into fiat.

I don't know the minimum withdraws on most exchanges, but I recon it might be difficult to withdraw anything less than, say, $50 worth of Bitcoin.
Maybe someone else knows what the minimum withdraws are?
1396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dapps - eth or eos? on: October 02, 2018, 01:13:17 PM
Neither, both have some pretty big flaws and they're not really projects I'm personally interested in.
I'm mostly using dApps on Steem to be honest, once SMTs are launched, I can only imagine that it will be better.

Current dApps that I'm actively using on Steem:
Steem Monsters
Musing.io
Steemhunt
1397  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: how much would you pay for a lottery ticket? on: October 02, 2018, 09:41:41 AM
In my opinion there are many who have tried the lottery/raffle way with a blockchain and they all closed down due to no interest.

The reason why is because people can just bet on dice instead.

Instead of playing the lottery where you need to wait a few weeks for the results AND usually there is a large house edge, why not just play dice.

You can just 9900x your bets and you will know in a split second whether you won "the lottery" or not.

So you can try this out but I guarantee you there won't be enough interest to generate enough funds.

Your reply is completely useless to OP, he's asking what people are willing to pay for a lottery, pretty fair question if you ask me.
Here you come along, giving a long speech about how dice is better than a lottery.

Guess what, I used to play quite a lot on the Crypto-Games lottery and it's pretty popular.
It's been successfully running for years now, so there goes your entire rant down the drain.

Besides, he's talking about a lottery on Discord, presumably for an already established Discord community that he's a part of.

OP, I went with 10k Sats, I think it's cheap enough so a lot of people can join, while still adding enough for a nice big pot in the end.
I definitely do think it's viable to make a lottery, execution is everything though.
1398  Economy / Gambling / Re: ★ Crypto-Games.net ★ 4 Years Old ★ 58.000$ wagering contest ★ on: October 02, 2018, 09:08:01 AM
Congrats again to all winners of the wagering contest!
Seeing quite a few new names on the list (as far as I can remember the previous ones :p), so I'm glad to see that it's getting so popular.

To the people who didn't win: Grab another chance by playing the lottery, will be pretty good with all the additional tickets!
Also a quick reminder that the Crypto Games lottery offers you pretty much the best EV out of all games (even compared to other websites!)
1399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MERITS OF BLOCKCHAIN. on: October 02, 2018, 08:49:52 AM
I'd love to see you give an actual explanation or example of how the use of a blockchain in the medical industry is a superior way to story sensitive data.
When you talk about using blockchain to store personal medical data, do you mean a public blockchain or a private one?

How will you give access to the people who need access and how will you prevent unauthorized access?
1400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SafeInsure Coin (SINS)- Insurance for the Blockchain Era- POS+Masternodes on: September 30, 2018, 04:14:02 PM
Stop spamming people on Discord, it's pretty clear that you're giving bounties for people to mass-spam Discord users.
Any project that does this is untrustworthy in my book.

I would seriously recommend any potential investor to not invest a penny into this project.
