I hope the dumpers are shorters taking open position who bring the desperatively needed liquidity once the btc will disappear from bids.

Seems someone is agitated he missed the train. For every newbie reading this thread, read his signature please.
2142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 24, 2016, 12:57:38 PM
Reading the quote "While Monero isn't made to integrate with Tor, it can be used wrapped with torsocks, if you add --p2p-bind-ip 127.0.0.1 to the bitmonerod command line." in README.md at the repo, leads me to the following questions:

- Whats the status of this TOR-support via wrapper? Is this option: fully functioning and secure to use for people with basic TOR & crypto knowledge. Or this more like an draft/proof of concept/not supported dirty hack?

- Are more Monero I2P-nodes needed?

- Are more Monero TOR-nodes needed?

- In which clearnet geographical region are new nodes needed? Any suggestions?
(Without needs test, I randomly did setup 4 nodes in Asia yesterday: Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Kota Kinabalu[MY].)
So next time, I get pocket money from my grandmother and I decide to buy more nodes, I would deploy them, where they are needed. :-)

- Bonus question: Sorry I forgot, why again was I2P once preffered over TOR to be integrated/used with Monero?
Maybe someone can remind me or point to a link, where I can read it up myself.

Smooth already answered your first questions.

Anyway, you can see the geographical distribution of Monero nodes here -> https://monerohash.com/#network

Regarding bonus question: I would suggest to listen to the podcast -> http://podbay.fm/show/1032156854/e/1451151298?autostart=1

They discuss it in there.

Sorry, i described not detailed enough:
updated to 0.9.0.0 on Jan 2 2016, updated to 0.9.1.0 on Jan 15 2016
wanted to open my wallet today with simplewallet.
gave me the message:

I've forwarded your message to fluffypony on IRC, he is going to test it and see what went wrong.

Btw, if you stumble into any other problems, IRC is way faster to get help than bitcointalk. You can join without a client, just use http://webchat.freenode.net/, pick a nickname and set the channel to #monero.

On the first page of this ANN thread the following is listed.......

Latest release: 0.9.0.0 Hydrogen Helix   Huh Tongue

However I checked the windows 64 bit link does download 0.9.1.0  Smiley

I did not check the other links.

Shouldn't it say somewhere that there is a mandatory upgrade to 0.9.1.0?

States 0.9.1.0. Everyone was made aware via various outlets that it was a mandatory upgrade.

It states so because............

On the first page of this ANN thread the following is listed.......

Latest release: 0.9.0.0 Hydrogen Helix   Huh Tongue

Fixed now. Thanks for the heads up!

I believe there is no reason not to have the mandatory notice on the bct announce page OP.

Those type of notices used to be in the title of the thread.

I understand it says "We are moving away from Bitcointalk" in the OP but still this is critical info.  This type of info used to be in the title of this thread.

My bad, I didn't see that.

Regarding bolded, I agree, I'll ask fluffypony and/or smooth if he can edit it.

Regarding the title, if you put it in the title of the thread, it will be there for a long time, so it gets a bit messy. I think this is what fluffypony stated about it.

Well, someone dumped 30k at once this morning, which resulted in retesting previous resistance (145k, which is now support). Fortunately, it held, so it might merely be a little retrace. Keep in mind, we also had a quite sharp retrace before we blased through 145k.
2147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 24, 2016, 02:19:47 AM
Some TA:

We broke 2 long term downtrends and the heavy resistance in the 145k-154k region (we peaked a few times there in the last few weeks/months, therefore it became resistance).

Next up is 168k, which was approximately our local high yesterday and used to be support when we fluctuated around 200k. After we broke it during the long downtrend, it became resistance.

XMR.TO updates: increased limit, reliable liquidity, no-javascript version

Quote

~~~ We've rolled out some updates on https://xmr.to ~~~
  • We've increased the limit for large orders, up to 2 BTC (previously 1). We are considering to possibly raise more in the future, depending on demand and volume.
  • We've updated various things in our backend, most important and visible effect for you is that we should now have a good liquidity, reliably.
  • For the privacy-minded out there that are reaching us over TOR or I2P and prefer not to enable javascript: they can now enjoy a new front-end that works even with javascript completely disabled.
Enjoy!
2149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: January 23, 2016, 10:13:13 PM
to the contrary with a 4k buy wall at .012 we may well see if those .013 sellers really do want to sell
Lets not quote the trolls.  Wink
I'm all about playing with our friends on polo.  lol.  Thats partly my wall on there....and there is more ammunition if needed.  Miami was an amazing success.  Evolution as a crypto PayPal competitor is going to be awesome.
Well, trolls are trolls with their own agenda but he may actually have a point here. With Evolution being years from completion there're no major news or updates in sight, as far as I see. So this might be the highest price we'll see this year. Also any other high volume action like ETH draws BTC from DASH market.
Highest price in this year?? LOL It's January now. Ok may I ask how do you know that Evolution is years from completion ??
And another point, price doesn't correlate with news or updates, as DASH did show it a lot of times.
Price increasing could be related with adoption, and of course manipulation.
Well if you believe it's the end of DASH for this year, feel free to leave.
I've read it somewhere in this thread and I can't find this post now. Neither can I find any ETA on the Dash website. Please tell me if I'm missing something.
I prefer to separate tech and price discussions. So "low price" is not equal to "end of DASH". Actually it's a very common concept here when people presume some coin "dead" if they don't like the market activity even if the developers are working hard.
Also I'll be watching this thread and posting comments even if I won't hold any Dash.
Evan Duffield has said 1 to 1.5 years until completion numerous times now.
It seems like Shen is going full steam ahead! Some updates regarding Ring Confidential Transactions for Monero:
Quote
edit 1/9/2016: Looks like its fully funded! Thanks to everyone who funded - I've started the work (https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/commit/9ede58897808bee784dab296654b99899a58c109), and I will be posting updates here for the next two weeks as I work on this, rather than updating both here and the stickied reddit post.
edit 1/13/2016: MG sigs + demo are done (git clone https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero.git, cd brief, make, a.exe (or a.out depending on system)). Most of the helper functions are there, so the rest should go a little bit quicker. Also fixed a tiny bug in Monero's keccak function.
edit 1/14/2016: ASNL + demo are done. (https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/commit/88b2d93e137bd5a2e2a2700ac11136705bd463c5) I will probably do some additional checks on these and the MG sigs once I get everything finished, however they are working as expected now.
edit 1/15/2016: spent an all nighter getting a rough version of all the code finished - I will most likely clean it up, and then make it available early next week.
https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/2450/ring-ct-c-crypto
Another update:
Quote
edit 1/21/2016: Just FYI the code is fully working (available at https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/tree/master/brief) right now I am just doing some additional checks / testing / looking carefully for bugs, I expect to have all of these checks done by end of the week.
Another one here -> https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/42bv46/small_update_on_ring_ct_crypto_implementation/
For the lazy ones:
Just a small update on the crypto c++ work since it's been two weeks since it was funded:
[1] There is a working version available here I posted earlier this week: https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/tree/master/brief is basically an exact translation of the python version referenced in the paper
[2] I'm a little bit unhappy with the readability and layout of that code, so for the past few days I've been refactoring and updating comments, as well as running some tests- I will aim to make this available in a fresh repository in the next few days.
2152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR monero wallet problem on: January 23, 2016, 08:57:52 PM
Your transactions doesn't show up on the blockchain, you can insert the hash on https://moneroblocks.info to check for yourself.
Your Monero should still be in your wallet, does it give you the right balance?
2153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 23, 2016, 07:24:38 PM
huge buys on poloniex - hope we will leave the downtrend.
Looks like almost 100K volume or am I reading this wrong?
How does one separate the amount bought from sell side vs sold to bids ?
Bitcoinwisdom shows around 90k for the last 4 hours (candle starts at 16:00 UTC), see -> https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/poloniex/xmrbtc
It's kind of difficult to seperate them, but you can get a good estimate if you look at the 1 minute candles.
Any update on XMR Klee? It broke the local high on volume:
But I am curious for your analysis as well.
I took ETH profit (gave a multiple top breakout at 401K satoshi) and entered XMR:
https://twitter.com/CryptXO/status/690931290036637696
EDIT: Ascending top & bottom triple top break, normally it should give decent amount of Xs.
Thanks, I already spotted that on twitter and was wondering if it was yours, because it looked oddly familiar.
What's your ID there to follow you?
To be fair, bid/ask depth is only one measure of liquidity. To get a better image one should also look at the ratio of average volume to market cap.
2160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 23, 2016, 04:03:57 PM
Something smells fishy in Crypto Town:
If someone decides to dump 0.5% of DASH in circulation (30k) price drops to 0.006 BTC (-52%)
If someone decides to dump 0.5% of XMR in circulation (54k) price drops to 0.00126 BTC (-11%)
Though the market cap of XMR is 6 times smaller than DASH marketcap.
#rationalmarkets
It can also mean that Dark coin holders are not expecting anyone to dump such amounts of coins but among the Monero community the dumps are quite usual.
It would be better to stop making the comparison to DASH / darkcoin all the time and focus on our own.
