2281  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: November 06, 2015, 01:04:42 AM
At some point gear is obsolete though.  Look at like BFL minrig... that thing even "free" I would be surprised if many are still running.   One day A1's have to hit a obsolete point even at cheap electricity.

So far I think there are a ton in china running at cheap electricity.  But the recent price raise for sure put more life into A1's.

Yes! I think A1's now has a purpose to play in mining and I think bitcoin will still increase up to Nov. 5 I wish, hehe it is good to mine this time stock more and more bitcoin in the coming halving and wish it will increase Grin

This increase no doubt kept the A1's mining.  With cheap electricity gear stay's on the network a long time.  And in china I think there are sizable amounts of A1's still mining away in some data centers.

Having it's hard to say what will happen.  I'm just happy for how its doing now

As long as the energy is cheap (or even free somethimes), it is even profitable to keep those miners running. Especially now the value of the BTC is increasing and increasing.

Remind that mining with A1's for some people might not seem to be profitable nowadays (due to electricity costs), but if the value of BTC keeps increasing, it might turn out that mining nowadays was profitable though. (Yes, they could also spent the money directly on BTC instead of electricity in this case).

The thing is mining equipment loses value so darn quick I don't like sitting on equipment Im at a loss.  I sold all my A1's and bought more efficient gear.

It is possible more people are profitable now. As a general rule thought I would not unplug a miner and just let it sit there.  I would sell it.

It would be best to mine with it at a lost and hold, then sell when BTC is at an acceptable price for profit. A bit rough if you need to cash out BTC to cover the month's budget but if not this work well, assuming you're not mining at a lost simply because your electricity rate is too crazy.

If that is the case then, definitively sell, dont sit on hardware.

Depends on how much you are losing.   If you have a large electricity bill mining at a loss is not really the best thing.  Counting on it being worth more in the future is not really safest bet.

I would sell and get more efficient gear.  I like running at a profit.  Keeping gear your losing money mining is not good long term.

If you're not really earning(by a small margin) because BTC is at 220$ then you would still profit fully if you profit well at 300$.

If you're losing significantly, this probably mean your electricity costs are too high and you should look into better setups. You could break even S1's on miner hosting, when the price was in the 200s, if you never sold until 300-400 then you would be pretty far ahead.

But i think selling the miners like you said and buying BTC would be a better choice since it is safer and you will profit with it under the same condition as running miners at a loss.
2282  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Remote Management on: November 06, 2015, 01:01:21 AM
can you use Teamviewer from your phone?

Yes of course;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.teamviewer.market.mobile&hl=en

I never tried it myself since i always have access to a PC or a Laptop, but i guess that could work for you, i just imagine you would have to use it through wifi, i'm guessing mobile connection could be laggy or too slow or bust your bandwidth, unless you have a high end internet contract on your cellphone.
2283  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: November 06, 2015, 12:58:17 AM
To be safe, get two Bitcoins.

Or better three. To be 100% calm about your retirement  Cheesy

If you can retire off of 2 Bitcoins in 30 years or whatever or whenever you retire, you must leave dirt cheap:)

I would guess you are going to need around 1000-2000 coins in order to retire successfully.

You're wrong,

You wont even need a full Bitcoin.

Wow, the You're wrong defense.  I guess i lose.  I highly doubt the coins will be worth 5million dollars in 30 years.  I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT.  Of course that would be absolutely awesome if it was true.  I thought I was stretching it with coins being valued at 3,000 to 4,000 dollars.

That sound kind of impossible, the market cap would be so huge it would be basically overtaking the global economy. Many country would be running solely on BTC and everything would have BTC transaction embedded. I'm not sure thats possible in the first place, but if it would happen, it would take longer.

There can't be that much progress in so little time. Something bad would definitively happened if we leaped into the future by that far so quick.

Hi Fam,

So last night my S4 overheated and the management software I'm using at the moment cryptoglance didn't tell me and I don't think the S4 turned itself off it was still going when I got to it this morning.

Is there any remote management application that allows me to power down my miner when it gets too hot remotely?

Cheers!

The CGwatcher suite has a CGremote. I'm guessing that is what you would want. You could also set up port forwarding on your router, assuming its a good one and connect to your miners from the outside.

The easiest would be to setup Teamviewer and just RDP in a computer at home to access your local monitoring and control software. It would be like being at home.
2286  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining when the Bitcoin value goes up on: November 06, 2015, 12:50:22 AM
Please evaluate and provide feedback:

Bitmain AntMiner S7 - $2415
Power supply - ? (please provide cost for wall outlet)
2000 kWh: 6.3 cents

What is the estimated time to pay this off if btc averages $350 over the next year?

2000 kWh is 6.3 cents ? Something does not add up. That would mean you pay nearly nothing per hour since a S7 is 28.8 kWh per day.

With this nearly free electricity it would take 7 months to ROI. Not sure why you're paying 2415$ instead of 1700$ per.

I'm guessing he means 6.3 cents for the first 200 KWH or something.   Some electric companies have a variable based on how much you use.

Can you go into your electricity a little bit more in details?  It is hard to say without knowing more on your electricity.

We usually average 1000kWh a month and that is 3.7 cent. 2000kWh is 6.3 cents.

Well if your costs to run a 15A 120V breaker at 12A for 1 month is 4 cents~... Thats would be like effectively free electricity. You could get a tons of Antminer S1 and S2 and make total bank. If you can ramp it up a lot, you could sell hosting and make 50-75USD per kW rented. Assuming your electricity is actually 3cents per month per kW.

Where do you live?
2287  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 board gone bad, options on: November 05, 2015, 11:22:28 PM
Honestly the easiest option would be to sell it as a one blade miner and someone will probably pick it up for ~200$ and just use the funds to help purchase a fully working unit.

Its not a bad idea, i might even be interested in picking up such offer if the shipping to Canada is not too bad. If its available in one or two weeks i would probably pick up the deal.
2288  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Tips for powering off your miners on: November 05, 2015, 11:17:33 PM
Maybe I've had some bad luck in the past, I've definitely had a few too many blades randomly die and I even had one miner catch on fire!

Also I remember reading a long time ago some one was going to the effort of using ssh on each device and running sudo poweroff

This never worked for me as I typically never had a permanent management computer near to any of the miners when it came to a decom.

Does anyone else have tips to share perhaps someone GPU mining?

Mining with any other hardware than an ASIC is risky, as they are not designed to run at full capacity 24/7.
As for your blades breaking, it might be because of the environment you are running them in. Otherwise, it's just plain bad luck I think.

No problem with ASIC, GPU or CPU mining when shutting it down instantly. Though i would not do SHA256d on gpuss.
If your things surge and catch fire, its most likely improper ground, surge protection or bad PSU. I never, ever had a problem with this whatsoever, ever.
2289  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: November 05, 2015, 09:18:39 PM
Im not to impressed to be honest.  I was hoping to see 2 blade version.  To go down in speed... and keep 3 hashing boards just is a pain.

I dont think its the "lite" I was hoping they did.  With this I would have rather them it the same on higher speed.

This is not at all what we had guessed. It's not a Lite Version at all. I would call it a Design Correction. We have seen from the very tight voltage spec on the original S7 followed by batches at reduced hash rates that they were having manufacturing problems. This is a more permanent fix that with a 12V supply increases the Core Voltage from 0.66V to 0.75V and should allow reliable running at 600MHz and also I would think some overclocking.

What is uncertain at this point is if they are able to select BM1385 Chips and continue with the 4.86TH Design or if we will see all production move to the 4.05TH Batch 6 style?

Rich

We'll have to wait and see, but i am also not impressed, a design correction does not sound bad and a 4THs per unit also does not sound bad, but i would of wanted to see a consequential 20% price drop with the 20% hashrate drop.

Instead the unit is as expensive as ever, or more. I know BTC is doing very well right now and people are going hysterical and buying all they can get their hands on, but damn. Batch 4 and 5 were properly priced...
2290  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Verify problem on: November 05, 2015, 09:13:47 PM
thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have tried with all browsers, and on several different computers. The result is the same.

This does not give me a good first impression with them, unfortunately.

I wish I could call them but find no phone number so I left a case message inquiry on their website.

I thought perhaps someone else may have had the same problem.

I do not have that problem, i'm using Google Chrome. I also see a lot of people talking about setting up with Coinbase and this is the first time i hear of this issue. Maybe you don't have JRE installed or something.

Keep an eye out for their chat support, whenever i had an issue or a question in the past, the chat was available and i was able to get a prompt answer. One time they forward it to a ticket and i got a reply by e-mail the next day.
2291  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: November 05, 2015, 08:54:50 PM
Batch 4 and 5 are sold out.

lasted just a couple of days.
anyway, my B4 order finally 'turned green'.

Interestingly, S7 batch 6 went from 162 to 145 chips (144? as 145 cannot be divided by 3-weird)

This contains an error, they put 45 chips per hasboard, total 135 chips, not 145:

batch 1, 3 and 5: 4860 / 162 = 30 (total hashpower / number of chips = hashpower per chip)
batch 6: 4050 / 30 = 135 (total hashpower / hashpower per chip = number of chips)

So, they went from 54 chips per hashboard to 45 chips per hashboard.

Now it is easilly to found a PSU, but it is still too high...  Sad

Well the maths works for 135 Chips . The only snag is that with 45 chips / Board the only maths that works is 15 Nodes of 3 Chips, one less node than with 144 Chips and that would mean that the Core Voltage with a 12V Supply would be even higher. 12V / 15 = 0.8V and that is way too high. That is if the BM1385 Data Sheet is to be believed?

Rich

And whats the deal? Its the same price, or even higher than the "lesser batches" for less hashrate. What is this, the "Lays marketing trick" where they just sell less chips per bag but use the same price to milk more money off customers?

They must have implemented something on the board to regulate down the Voltage to the 0.6X range, why go through all this trouble? I don't get it and its bothering me, mostly because i was thinking on picking up one soon, i guess.

This is not what i had in mind when the rumors of the "S7 mini" started going around...
2292  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Good places where you can buy Bitcoin miners at a discounted bulk price. on: November 05, 2015, 08:45:53 PM
I am looking into buying quality Bitcoin miners in bulk.
Looking for some advice.
Thanks.

Hard to say what Quality is to you.

Right now there is the B6 Antminer S7, which oddly enough has 800gh less than a typicaly S7, while remaining the full price. It also ship late, so all in all, weird stuff here, but its an option.
https://www.bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020151105082702881F8f0B9I405FF

Then there is the Avalon6, which i don't personally know how much trouble it would be to setup, but also an option.

Lastly if you're looking at something more industrial, there is the SP50 which is coming out soon. If a big amount of hashrate in a data-center like setup is what you're looking for, the SP50 might be the best option.
2293  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoincore wallet fee on: November 05, 2015, 05:49:42 PM
I would say 0.001.

That is what I have it set to.
I would say that's quite high Grin It's usually 0.0001 but to guarantee it gets into the next block 0.001 it's fine too
This 0.001 is very high  0.0001 take time so I mostly go with 0.0002 and 0.0003 and its works for me very quickly

I use, and recommend to go at 0.00011 per kB. Its a tad higher than default so you have better odds of getting confirmed, i don't really like waiting long times for confirmations. Right now 0.00008 per Kb is being recommended as the cheapest that still get you confirmed.
But i don't like to change it all the time so instead i just leave it at slightly above average and only  change it to higher during spam attacks.

Cointape that was recommended many time already is a good source if you want the math to be done for you.
2294  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-E Internal Hack/Suspicious Events on: November 05, 2015, 03:14:26 AM
btc-e has no reason to steal their customer funds - just calculate their daily profit and you will see the reason why.
What you are describing is more probable to be stolen login.

Did you use same password somewhere else (read this, may be related http://www.zdnet.com/article/000webhost-hacked-13-million-customers-exposed/)

and did u enable 2FA ? From their TOS "Claims about third party fraudulent activities on accounts with disabled 2FA will not be taken into consideration. "

Considering 2FA make this improbable to happen at all short of getting your 2FA device stolen as well, i don't really see OP as some kind of expection. Pretty sure his BTC is gone if it was indeed moved out of his account.

Gosh! The pay rates have decreased to 0.0007 BTC for senior members? Glad that it gets reflected in the next payment and not the current one.

The price rose by over 100% and payments decreased by 30%, after several weeks of a rising price. I think that's fair enough.

Fair enough. Any news or that Avatar campaign or did it miss it? I'm still interested in renting off my Avatar space.

Ive been running with my avatar for free on it.  The campaign has treated me well so I have trouble asking Macro for a few small payments over it.

But maybe one day I will see again if I can rent mine aswell.  With being here 7 months Ive been kinda easy going as I enjoy it here.

I see, thats not a bad idea per see, since its not like i'm losing anything either. Maybe i'll try to see if i can cook up a proper avatar with Bit-x on it.

Since your project is open source, any thoughts about using DropBox or sourceforge/github to keep your software available for users, even though you are discontinuing it? Kinda sad to see you go, i like the minimalist HUD of your software.

Github has the source already.

I meant for the Binaries. Compiling the things yourself is not for everyone, is what i was thinking.

so far no but My act of good karma for fredi has resulted in a block

Well congratulation, i seem to understand you will be splitting half and half with him. 12.5BTC could buy a lot of Sidehack sticks/pods Wink

no ⅓ spilt as a third party saw what I did and said if my shot missed he would play using my address.  which was really amazing some one would see what I did and add to it.   So he hit the block with my address and we will three way spilt the block and of course give ck a tip.  So my kind act  + a follow up by another got 3 people to have 8.4 btc a piece and ck 0.32 btc tip.

Once I  spilt the coins I will be sure to donate to the next round here so maybe it can multiply again.

I see, still nice. I hope you got yourself an extra permanent S7 for the trouble. I kinda feel like we're leeching off you a tiny bit here since you put so much toward the club, so hopefully you get a return here for your troubles.

With BTC jumping I don't have a problem going to 40 next cycle.  I like that we limit it where it is some fun for everyone.  But with Europe just getting sticks I don't want to leave all of them out.   I think 40 will be pretty high side of what we should go.

I think this club idea is a good one.  So I'm hoping we are able to do a Pod club (once they release) and a Compac club.   I don't know if there is enough but a U3 club could be interesting if there was the people, crazy guy's custom R1 firmware has actually made it very stable on U3.

Thank you for thinking of us Europeans! I'm still messing around with mine at the moment but would be up for a place in the next round.

should start on Nov 11th  we will bump to 40 from 30

Sound good for 40 days runs.

Looking to see if there's any interest for these.  I have some older equipment that I am looking to move, need to make some electrical room for incoming miners.

3x Dragon Miner 2.3 TH/s (1 had water damage, still hashes at full spec)
1x Dragon miner 1 TH/s
3x AsicMiner Tubes with Block Erupter controllers (1 of them has a bad board)
1x SP10
1x Antminer S4 with good original PSU (never had PSU problems)

Flexible on price, PM me with any offers, including parting these out for hashboard, controlers, PSU's.  Prefer not to ship whole units, as it wouldn't really be worth it due to weight.  Located in Ontario, Canada.  Some of these are offline, but can provide pictures/status page for any interested parties.

I'd grab the S4 depending on the price, we probably get a good shipping rate or maybe meet face to face if you go by Ottawa sometimes. Could also be interested in the Tubes for parts, depending on how much you are looking for those, as well.
