But yes, privacy concerns will be there. But if people are using their legitimate money, that won't raise any concern. That's why I always say that Bitcoin is the best investment asset, but not a great payment processor. It is slow and expensive.
I don't even agree that it has to do with either legitimate or illegitimate money, i could be spending money i got legitimately, but i do not want my government to have records of absolutely everything i do with my money, i know they control fiat, but at least there is some form of privacy when you use cash at hand, but you lose absolutely every iota of privacy when you use CBDC's. Having said that, Bitcoin is not only the best investment asset, when it comes to decentralized money and one that is free of censorship, Bitcoin is the best option.
242  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: NLC demands N794,000 minimum wage for workers in South West on: March 07, 2024, 08:08:08 PM
This amount na wetin the Labor Union in the South West zone agreed upon, whilst the NLC in the North West Zone agreed on N485,000. E be like say the NLC groups in all the geopolitical zones go agree on wetin dem think say be a fair amount for minimum wage in Nigeria, and report it to the panel for review and for a decision to be made.

Having said that, imo N500,000 na fair amount as minimum wage for Nigeria, just look at the inflation level in the country, standard of living, devaluation of the Naira, etc, e dey very obvious say our minimum wage suppose reach N500,000. But then, the current minimum wage in Nigeria is N30,000, and to move from this amount to N500,000 or the amounts mentioned by the NLC of the different zones is unrealistic right now, i think the best the government can go in this review is N100,000.
243  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: March 06, 2024, 10:15:24 PM
City and Real Madrid are through to the QF, it was pretty routine for Pep's men, but it was far from comfortable for Real Madrid and they just narrowly progressed to the next round, i reckon that they would improve, and they have to because the games are going to get tougher from now on. The four teams that have progressed thus far would wish to avoid each other in the next round, because they are the biggest teams left in the competition and a tie between any of them would be a cracker with no clear favorites.
244  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: March 06, 2024, 05:51:31 PM
Two big teams progressed to the QF yesterday, i am talking about PSG and Bayern Munich, City and Real Madrid can also join them in the QF tonight, and make it 4 big teams to have progressed.

Having said that, Bayern Munich proved to be too strong for Lazio, even though the Italian team came into the second leg with a goal advantage, PSG completed the job they started in the first leg and saw off Real Sociedad, with Mbappe scoring two goals last night. The QF draw is going to be really interesting and there are definitely going to be mouth watering clashes, Bayern were knocked out at this same stage by City last season, i can imagine if they meet each other again in this same stage, it will be a game to look out for, but all this predictions can wait until the RO16 is over and the draw is made.
245  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 06, 2024, 04:39:47 PM
There are enough merit sources and merits in circulation for a fair distribution of merit. More merits in circulation would mean more merits in the hands of merit abusers which isn't something we would want to see happening around, do we?
It is Theymos that adds new merit sources, and to become a merit source you have to apply for it, and there are requirements to apply for the role of a merit source in Bitcointalk, one of which is the user must be a reputable users. Theymos is not going to make users who are not reputable MS's, and the chances of reputable users abusing their source merits is very slim, so there is nothing to be worried about.
246  Other / Meta / Re: Provision for increasing available merit every year by some amount on: March 06, 2024, 04:14:12 PM
Is there a provision for increasing available merit every year by some amount? This is needed because new members are also joining the forum daily and thus the available merits quantity should be adjusted accordingly.
Source merits and MS's are adjusted by Theymos when he thinks there is a need for it, but other than that, non-MS's have to earn their own Smerits through their posts and give it to posts they think are of good quality. The admin is not going to make provisions of "Smerits" for new users who are joining the forum, Bitcointalk is a forum for Bitcoin discussion and other whatnots, thus newbies should start off without worrying about merits and when they eventually start making quality posts, they are going to earn merits from MS's and other users.

They can convince Mbappe to stay at Paris Saint Germain, but I don't know how good they can get from a player who has made up his mind to leave the team.
There is no going back for Mbappe, his decision has been made and all parties have agreed to it. The meeting does not have anything to do with convincing Mbappe to stay in PSG, i am sure that isn't what was discussed when they met, Mbappe is leaving to join Real Madrid and this time PSG would not be able to stop that move. Having said that, the club must start preparing for life after Mbappe now that the exit is inevitable, it'd be interesting to see what their next move in the transfer market would be, are they going to recruit big/star players, or are they going to start recruiting young and homegrown players like the club said they will.
248  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: March 05, 2024, 08:32:22 AM
Havertz become the most valuable player for two matches, it's good to see he developed very well when many people said him a flop signing.
Mike Artera deserves an awful lot of credit for that, for believing in Kai Havertz and trusting him when the fans were calling for him to be dropped, Arteta continued to defend Havertz and kept on playing him, and he is repaying all of that trust now, that is excellent management. Having said that, Arsenal made light work of Sheffield United, as was expected actually, Sheffield United are definitely going to be relegated, they are not up to the standard of the EPL, and they ought to be playing in the Championship.
249  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: March 04, 2024, 10:50:21 PM
I personally prefer that's Victor Osimen have need to do move to primer league because Primer league is much larger league than French league. And he will able to win some trophies like PL, and maybe UCL if they go to big club like Manchester city, Liverpool and Chelsea.
City and Liverpool are not interested in Victor Osimhen, i think the EPL teams interested in him are Chelsea and Arsenal and in terms of financial power, Chelsea are the most likely to sign him if he is to come to the EPL. Having said that, if he eventually moves to Chelsea, he would be moving to a team in transition, thus it would be difficult for him to win titles with Chelsea in the short term, because Chelsea are not going to be winning any titles anytime soon. If i was Osimhen, i would not go to Chelsea, they are a team that is struggling right now.

251  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin all time high, is it ETF effects or pre halving cycle on: March 04, 2024, 07:07:25 PM
The question now is, are we going to see that happening very soon and what is you expected benchmark before the next halving cycle.
I think i would predict that the ATH would happen before the halving event, though i might turn out to be wrong on that, but with the way the price is rising so fast, there is every indication that it would happen before the halving.

Having said that, as for a "benchmark" before the next halving, i would say Bitcoin price might be around the range of $68,000-$70,000 before the halving happens, because the spot ETF's are really causing the price to move up very fast, and it does not look like it is going to slow down anytime soon.
252  Economy / Economics / Re: Hard times in the average Nigerian society on: March 04, 2024, 06:41:45 PM
My question now is what exactly sponsors the untold hardship in the life of an average Nigerian
People who don't live in Nigeria would prolly find it hard to give answers to your question, thus majority of the replies on this topic would prolly be from Nigerians, the more reason why you should have posted it in our local board.

Having said that, hardship exists in many parts of the world/in other countries, though third world countries like ours are faced with more challenges. Insecurity, terrible economic policies, bad leaders/poor decision makers, corruption, lack of local production, wastage of the country's resources, etc, all of these is just to mention a few, but the culmination of all of these and more is why the country is in the state it is right now. It is going to be extremely difficult to solve our problems, but we have to start by electing good leaders and people in public offices.
253  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Reps summon Binance boss over alleged terrorism financing, others on: March 03, 2024, 09:20:00 PM
The Nigerian government dey go about this matter in the wrong way, if dem continue in this way they would scare foreign investors away from the country, dem dey make baseless claims and they are trying to cajole Binance into giving them information about Nigerian traders in their platform. Sometimes i dey wonder who dey make these decisions, if you wan regulate crypto and get taxes from it, then it is definitely not through detaining representatives of Binance, that is a crazy move. Everything wey Naija dey do now would definitely amount to nothing, other than scare away foreign investors/businesses from Naija and worsen the situation wey dey bad already.
254  Economy / Reputation / Re: Opinions on the word "Vouch" on: March 03, 2024, 07:17:30 PM
I can vouch that a particular user is trustworthy, maybe in one of my posts, or in their trust page, if that user goes on to take a loan and defaults, then it is not on me. But if a user is about to take a loan and i am called upon or i decide on my own to vouch on their trustworthiness in repaying the loan, if the loanee defaults, then i have plenty of the blame on me.
255  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: March 03, 2024, 06:19:55 PM
Great win for City and it was very well deserved, they controlled the game from start to finish and limited Manchester United to just 1 shot on target and 9 touches in the opposition box, that tells you how dominant city was. The three points moves City to within 1 point of Liverpool and perfectly sets up next weekend's game against Liverpool at Anfield, that game is so important for both teams and could be crucial in the title race.

Having said that, i don't think that match is going to be the title decider even though the points in it are so precious, but there are so many more games to be player. A draw might be a good result for the two teams, but much better for Liverpool, whilst if we get a winner, i don't necessarily think the loser is out of the title race, it just makes things more difficult for them.
256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Latest news in crypto? on: March 03, 2024, 02:05:42 PM
Is the halving good in Bitcoin?  What is the main benefit of it?  As I understand, A Bitcoin halving is about cutting the rate at which new bitcoins are released into circulation in half.  Does this mean that Bitcoin will become less volatile after the halving? If that will be case, then this is a good improvement since one of the concerns of investors is the volatility of Bitcoin which discourages people to fully trust it and invest their money.
Bitcoin's volatility has never been a problem for long term Bitcoin investors, because judging from the past, Bitcoin is profitable in the long term, it is short term that is harder to predict/speculate. The halving process is quite simple, Bitcoins supply is halved, right now the supply is at 6.25 Bitcoins, meaning any miner who successfully mines a block earns this, now after the halving, the miner is going to earn 3.125, that reduces their reward and also the supply of new Bitcoins into the market.

Having said that, with a reduction in supply and with the same or greater demand, the price of Bitcoin is expected to go up.

A draw today between Manchester City and Manchester United would be a win more like three points for Manchester United. Lol. Hopefully they don't fold!
I am pretty sure the two teams would be going for the win today, it is a derby game and there is so much pride and bragging rights involved, Manchester United might not be in the best of forms, but sometimes form does not count so much in a derby game and there is more incentive for the both teams to perform at a very high level irrespective of how they have performed in their recent games.

Having said that, City are the favorites for me, but it would not be an easy game, United lost the reverse fixture at home, so they would want to give City the same medicine at the Etihad. Liverpool fans would be watching this game with popcorn in hand and cheering every action from the team in red.
258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: March 01, 2024, 06:24:18 PM
So, we have three people that will leave from liverpool in summer. More probably to come soon. The list are
1. Jurgen Klopp
2. Moh Salah
3. Luis Diaz
From your list only one of them is certain to leave, and that is Jurgen Klopp who announced that he would be leaving the club and taking a break. Mo Salah will make a decision on his future in the summer, i am pretty sure Liverpool would want him to stay, but if he wants to go and the club gets a very good offer, maybe from the Saudis, then i don't think they would have any problem with him leaving. The Egyptian has contributed quite a lot to Liverpool's success during his time there and if he leaves, he would leave a legend.

Having said that, i think Liverpool are 100% going to keep Luis Diaz, he is one of their best attacking players and if i was a right back, i would not want to face off with him 1v1. I don't know where you guys got this rumor that Diaz is leaving Liverpool, i have not seen it in any credible news website.
259  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Few cons to be aware of before going into Bitcoin on: March 01, 2024, 05:25:36 PM
A lot of people tend to keep their digital currency in a cryptocurrency wallet, which puts them at rusk of losing investments if there is no longer access to their private key.
How does keeping your coins in a wallet put you at risk of losing your funds, as long as you keep it in an open source and non-custodial wallet, your money is not at risk, what you need to do is to back up your seed phrase and work on your security. If you sign up to become your own bank, these are the responsibilities that come with it.
Unlike a currency regulated by a Central Bank, Bitcoin transactions are not accompanied with legal protection, and given it's irreversibility, makes it scam prone.
If you want centralized money/system, stick with fiat, Bitcoin is decentralized and if you are going to use it you have to be your own bank and be in control of your money and security.
260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: March 01, 2024, 04:09:37 PM
Bayern Munich needs to focus on this competition, seems like the Bundelisga is going to the Leverkusen hands (until Leverkusen dont do a Borusia Dortmund clasic finish), so they need to win this key against Lazio, setled down and think and prepare the quarterfinals in a very serious way.
I don't think Bayern Munich can win the CL this season, the team just hasn't clicked under Tuchel and that is why the club is parting ways with him at the end of the season. From the looks of things, this might be a trophyless season for Bayern Munich, something that has not happened in a very long time. Having said that, Lazio have the lead in this tie going into the second leg, and despite the fact that the second leg is a home game for Bayern, i still consider Lazio favorites to qualify at this time, they know what they have to do in this second leg and if they execute it perfectly, they'll be the team to progress to the QF.
