I really don't recommend you take out a loan to mine. It's likely the 'good ole days' of mining are over. It'll likely be all razor-thin margins in the future.
Yes, I could be wrong. BTC/LTC could conceivably go up 500% or what have you. But I certainly would not take a loan for this, way too speculative.
For an example LTC went from a difficulty of about 85 to a difficulty of 500 within about 30 days. So you are only getting 1/5 of the rewards of what you would only a month ago. This will likely continue at this rate.
And a whole new massive big wave of ASICS are coming which will trickle into LTC 'cuz all the BTC GPU miners will migrate.
Just my .02's. At least just build 1 rig and see how it goes from there. Don't take a loan unless you are looking at it as pretty much a gamble. If you are a nerd like me mine a bit, just for fun...but if you are looking to make money, just buy coins during the weekly dip, it's a much better investment.

I'll be very disappointed if the chips go out before batch 3.
The chips should be a heck of a lot easier for Avalon to get out the door though, obviously.

That could possibly be a simple repair, is it not ? Just order the same kind of inductor and solder it on.

If you are "daytrading" I have some questions to ask. On average: How often do you buy/sell? Do you use one sized chunks (e.g. 100 BTC) or various sizes? How you decide on the amount? For how long do you wait before admitting bad decision and buying/selling back with loss? Are you using market orders? When? Do you use API (bot/script) or web interface? Do you use stop-loss? What's your % gain since the 266 crash?
This might be more suitable in a new/alternate thread.

Is there anywhere that has the estimates for the re-target / next difficulty? Thanks.

Looks promising. Can't wait 'til she's baked and ready for consumption.

[edited...no point in arguing...] Okay that's it. I'll stop apologizing for them now ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Be upset with them if you like, I suppose. I have faith they are pretty reasonably close to shipping; hopefully I'm correct in this belief...

Uh what, no. How do you figure?
BFL is about a year late? let's say 10 months, at least.
Batch 2 was supposed to ship April 15th. It's not even May 15th yet.
I'm no math wizard, but what are you talking about.

I don't think any hate-on's for Avalon are warranted. They are a bit late. No big deal. They are providing a rare and professional product anyways, that is on spec. There isn't any evidence they are partying it up with lovely Chinese prostitutes or running away to Spain or anything.
I think every Avalon pre-order person should cut them a bit of slack. At least refrain from getting too upset until they are at least * 1 / 10th * as late as BFL. After they are over one tenth as late as BFL then you can have a bit of license to complain.
I'm as anxious as you guys (I'm in batch 3) but can wait a bit longer...

Right on! Only one or two more weeks then! ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif)

Wow I never heard or seen this happen before.
Was it a Sapphire 7950 Vapour-X card?

I have quite old computer so no USB 3.0 but if neccessary I'll add it in form of PCI card or something similar - just make 2x Avalon chips USB stick (560+ MHashes) and let users do the setting up and other jobs. Would it be possible to make USB stick that would detect USB version on host computer and switch one of the chips off if USB version is not 3.0? A solution for you could perhaps be buying a USB 3 expansion card. I'm not sure but I think most of them are PCIE though, so depending on your rigs, you may be losing slots to video cards. There may by PCI usb 3 cards though, haven't checked...

The more time that passes, the more ASICS will be available. It'll will balance out a bit, but ASICMINER is in position to be a leader for a long time coming.
ASICMINER is in fantastic shape any way anyone look's at it. They are off to the races... I recommend to you that you buy some of their stocks. If you can't beat'em, join'em.

I think this is a pretty sweet idea. How feasible is it though? Is this more at the 'hey this a good idea stage' or the 'hey I think I can actually make this it wouldn't be that tough' stage? I've done the schematic and I'm partially through the board layout now. Maybe tomorrow will have something concrete. But still pending on Avalon docs forthcoming. Well high-five to you then sir. You have an excellent product on your hand if it all pans out. You should go full steam ahead with this. Be fantastic to augment mining rigs with some usb asic's. Hell open up a new company with stocks at BCT-TC to raise funds while your at it, because I'd like to buy in.

Maybe this thread should be merged with the "BFL fucks us over again" thread (page 72).

Dream about the exchange prices? Nope, not yet. Almost borderline compulsively check the exchange rate while I'm awake? Yup, pretty much ! I'm sure in 2014 I'll have a pair of google Glasses with a running market ticker going lol, at this rate.

It'll be interesting to see how anyone could wiggle out of this bet. The terms are very clearly established. I don't have a unit to test the power usage of it but once this clearly established for the shipped product (not just the early dev versions) than how could this bet not be honored? I bet Josh et al. will do the right thing here. ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
