2541  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Few Tips I learnt from trading that blew my account. on: March 29, 2022, 01:32:15 PM
[1].Don't Chase the market:
It's JOMO: Joy of Missing Out. Opportunity comes and goes, if you miss one, you will still have others in future. Don't chase the market when price already takes off significantly.

Quote
[2]. Always be patient with your trading set ups:
It is more relevant to investment, not trading. It is very rarely to find traders with enough patience. That is an explanation why 80% or 90% of traders end with loses. Another reason is their undisciplined results in bad high-risk taking portfolio management style.

Quote
[3].Don't predict the market ,react to current market situation.
Prediction can be right or wrong but in case your prediction is wong, you must react as fastest as possible.

Quote
[4].Don't outsmart the market :
Don't time the market, let it runs. If you pick a solid project, price will take off someday. It's just your responsibility to own it tightly and make sure you don't bet all of your capital in a single asset.

2543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Friends Give Me BTC as Birthday give on: March 28, 2022, 04:12:55 PM
First, happy birthday  Cheesy

When I opened it, I saw an email and password were written. And the account was a Kucoin account. Then I logged in and I saw there was $93 worth of bitcoin.
Next, it seems your friend does not know about risk from KYC, custodial wallet, CEX.

Quote
And when I asked them about it, they said "this is a gist from five people. Four give 20 each and one gives $15, but because of the price volatility, it becomes $93.
If you hodl it a few years, a decade, its value will increase a lot. However, if you are planing to HODL it, let's move it to a non-custodial wallet.

What you are looking for is the option to sort by the number of replies in ascending order and then by the last post time in descending order.
There are such hidden pages when you search with PMs. I have yet known any similar for searching in a specific board.

Guys is it safe to write down recovery phrases in a .doc file and use WinZip or Winrar to compress and add strong password to the file? I don't know if this is stupid or smart.
Basically, you should not store your back up on digital devices. It is worse if you connect those devices to the Internet too often.

Better methods are

According to https://profit-mine.com/en/hdd, 180 TB will earn you roughly $3.5 per day, which is not worth it in my opinion
You can search for about Chia coin
Chia coin was launched for big mining farms only. There was no mining pools months after its launch and it requires so much time to create PLOTs.

With such a single HDD, it's not worth to mine $CHIA. In addition, there are other hardrware requirements to mine this coin.
2549  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The EU May Vote to Ban Anonymous Crypto Payments on: March 28, 2022, 03:28:53 AM
If governments want to restrict cryptocurrency usages, they will aim at private coins first. They have due diligent to aim at such ones  because of money laundering activities are more favorite via private coins.

There are challenges for them to break down private coins and their transactions. I see there are many efforts and some reports that Cipher Trace successfully breaks it down. CipherTrace Files Two Monero Cryptocurrency Tracing Patents. So far, Monero is still here and it has still been listed on may Tier-1 exchanges

In-dark money laundering will use such coins first so let's see what's next for private coins.
2550  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are there no altcoins that can replace Bitcoin? on: March 27, 2022, 11:28:50 AM
Bitcoin is like a gold standard in blockchain industry and crypto market.

Altcoins can bring bigger or smaller total supply, faster transaction speed but VTPS is more important than TPS
Altcoins are not decentralized like Bitcoin. Will they be able to be decentralized? I don't know but it sounds impossible. Nowadays, founders or projects are doxed so you can not call them decentralized because with the lack of decentralization on their network and when doxed founders found, get caught, etc. their network might be fallen under risk of weird requirements from governments.

No joke https://twitter.com/Excellion/status/1333966283876954113
2551  Other / Meta / Re: Subject review and feedback on: March 27, 2022, 10:53:23 AM
I think the rule is against bumping service, not against user reviews. If review posts are authentic, they should be accepted.

In addition, it is unaccepted if the payment method is altcoin. Theymos stop altcoin giveaway years ago to avoid scam exposure in the forum community as much as possible.

2552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do i insert Images? on: March 27, 2022, 06:09:03 AM
Imgur.com is the most commonly used website for image uploading on the forum but there are alternatives. You can check them in Bilder im Bitcointalk verwenden.

Advice is don't overuse images because it is annoying when overuse. It takes space in each page, time to scroll up and down, etc. More important, some people who have low Internet access quality, bandwidth will do not like images which reduce their experience and unnecessary consume their bandwith.

2553  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Price target on: March 27, 2022, 02:15:25 AM
You have to think of 3 big things
  • Risk/ ratio price or entry, cut-loss price or profit-taking price: You should have profit-taking price is 3 times bigger than cut-loss price. It is a good ratio to take risk for your entry. If the ratio is smaller than 1:3, you should not make any entry at all
  • Time is key. Having a good entry does not mean you will be able to exit your position with good profit. Sometimes if time is not on your side, you will have to exit with loss even if you don't want to exit.
  • Make sure you don't have to exit if you don't want to because of margin call, loan repayment call, etc.
2554  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tell people about bitcoin but don't force them to invest on: March 26, 2022, 01:31:57 PM
Telling them about Bitcoin and educating them about it are different.

Education is key to change people mind, approach and investment decisions. It is not easy if your targeted people are old enough because they are less adaptive to new technology and Bitcoin, blockchain are likely unable to be digested for elderly.

2555  Other / Meta / Re: Does forum allow referral link? on: March 26, 2022, 04:01:34 AM
You can use it in
  • Signature
  • Personal text
  • Website URL in your profile page
but referral links are not allowed in forum posts.
2556  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't accept bribe to do KYC, it doesn't worth it on: March 24, 2022, 06:22:40 AM
Yep. Do KYC farms exist? I wouldn't be surprised if people from poor countries(à la Venezuela) mass submit KYC documents for the "free" $5-50 per registration; like how some try to make money through bounties and faucets. Assuming that these KYC offers are offered to these countries as well.
I don't know, frankly!

Because platforms have their own mechanisms to detect it. In my support experience, there are people who create multiple accounts and multiple documents to verify their accounts. In the end, after some bad trades and perhaps carelessness, they were detected with multi-accounting that results in account bans permanently. Because it breaks ToS.

Although I am not sure about KYC to claim giveaways, airdrops. I have never participated in such ones so I don't have experience to say, I believe platforms will not let farms to surpass their KYCs and claim rewards.
2557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't accept bribe to do KYC, it doesn't worth it on: March 24, 2022, 02:37:10 AM
Can't blame them however for sending their documents because $20 is a big amount already for someone who experience the worse crisis in their lives.
It's a point!

For people who are in need of such, they should take it but for people who are not in such bad conditions, they should think carefully. I think platforms probably don't have bad intention when they run such campaigns, giveaway, airdrops to their users. KYCs in such campaigns are unnecessary because without this mandatory process, cheaters will come and take money.
2558  Other / Off-topic / Re: These two don't go and yet, it keeps been used! (Misconception) on: March 24, 2022, 02:18:55 AM
First, this topic is unnecessary.

Second, let me tell you. People are free to use sMerit on the forum. There are no rules on merit usages on the forum. Obviously, there are unofficial recommendation by theymos on how people should use sMerit (from their earned merit or from sourced merit) but it is not closely to forum rules or merit system rules.

I disagree with some ways people use their sMerit but for years I have been here, I can say, the longer the merit system exists on the forum, the less likely people will pay attention on how others use sMerit. It sucks in my opinion. Anyway, the importance is total earned merit does not determine who you are and your quality as well as contribution on the forum. It's applied for members with dozens of merit or a few hundreds of merit.

It is not applied for members with outstanding contributions and thousands of earned merits because I am sure they will not touch those numbers with non-sense or low quality posts.
2559  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't accept bribe to do KYC, it doesn't worth it on: March 24, 2022, 02:11:38 AM
It is two sides of a coin and there are pros and cons for each side. As always in life, what is good for person A might not be good for person B. Here we can only point out pros and cons of each approach: do KYC and take money; reject unnecessary KYC and maintain privacy, anonymity.

If you don't really need small income for living expenses, why should you accept to throw away your anonymity just to get $20 or $50? Because when you lose it, it goes away forever and you can not erase it on the Internet

If you are in hungry, why do you not take that money that is vital probably not for yourself but also for your family?

What people should do is read, learn about pros and cons, then analyze their own conditions and make their own decisions with well awareness on very likely consequences they will get by their decisions.
