I don't follow this accident on Solana but "why are wallets backing up users recovery phrases in a log file" means you don't own keys of your wallet. The wallet has a backup (recovery phrase) of your wallet and it is terrible. It means at least two entities own wallet keys: you and that wallet company. Do you think they won't do scam exit and steal all your money? A good wallet to use is a non custodial wallet: - You are the only entity to own your wallet key.
- That wallet software does not own your wallet key in any format (log file, wallet file etc.)
- Even with non custodial wallet, to increase your safety, you should turn off Internet connection before creating a wallet.

Cointelegraph has its quality decreases in the last 4 years. Since the 2017 bull run, I see their articles have lower and lower quality. I stopped reading news from Cointelegraph long time ago and later almost stopped reading news too. In reality, people don't have to read news daily or too often. Reading news bring negative effects on their psychology and they can abandon their initial plan after reading a bad news. A true investors just buy and hold - after making due diligent research on Bitcoin. That is enough. If we look back, people don't have to read news to get profit from 2017 to 2022. I don't want to say farther in the past, just starting from 2017. If people read news in 2017 before the hardfork, they should sell all their Bitcoin around $3,000 or $4,000 and would have missed the 2017 ATH. |

Bitcoin can work just fine without being regulated. Don't get tricked into believing your government that you need them to show you how to do things safely. They couldn't care less about your safety or if you get scammed. The goal of their regulations is to have you pay taxes and have a harder time to cash out your crypto earnings and hiding it from them.
Regulations are not bad as they are helpful as preventive solutions for newbies to avoid or at least reduce risk of scam exposure and being scammed. However, I agree with you that having more regulations (better regulations) does not mean we should again trust governments and put our money into their finance system from either fiat currencies to CBDCs. They are completely centralized and unsafe. Let they regulate Bitcoin and cryptocurrency industry, exclusively crypto market but don't store your Bitcoin on any centralized platforms. No matter whether those platforms are controlled or regulated by governments. "Not your keys, not your coins" means let's use non custodial wallets. |

What a lot of "investors" that likes to get in and out of positions do wrong: being 100% out or 100% invested.
Being 100% in/out of bitcoin means you're super convinced that your decision would go well with high guarantees; whereas if you're thinking clearly with little to no bias, you shouldn't be THAT convinced to be 100% in/out.
They spend 100% of money in and after a while (usually a few months), they will have to sell to get a bit of money back for expenses. So if they have to do this in bear market, even at bottom of bear market, it means they will have to sell $10000 initial money to get $5000 or $1000 because of bear market effects. Crypto market is volatile, more than usual and more risky than usual so let's prepare a bit of reserved money for expenses. Don't get in 100% in either bull or bear market because you won't control how your job will be in next few months as well as how the market will be in near or far future. |

Looks like we've got a good list for monitoring the activity of the previously most generous merit sources on this forum. Some of them are no longer send merit for whatever reason, and this is an important thing to note. Even though the merit circulation is not disturbed much, I think some of them may have been disabled or have been replaced by the admin, we just don't know who. If you have time, you can read more in [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits. I just don't have time to look at it, honestly. In addition, it is not necessary to find out who are merit sources. theymos simply does not want to announce the merit source list publicly. Reasons are mentioned there I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

If a merit source isn't active, then they may not have the time that you are talking about, but they do not have to spend their time to do anything if they are active, they can send merits in the threads they participate in.
You never knows what happen with a merit source. - If you see them inactive for a few months, this case is clear. They simply don't have time in the forum
- If you see them active (that can be just a short log in and leave), you will never knows how many time (hours) they spend on the forum. This case, you just see a vague signal about their activity
It is about activity status, other things will be whether they have time to glance around to find good posts and meriting them. To simplify merit source jobs, there are a few topics to help them.
Because such an approach devalues posting as such. The assessment of the post itself fades into the background, and things that are not related to the merit, such as the user's activity, to whom how much he gave what, to whom he is friends, and so on, come to the fore. This is all rubbish and should be discarded if we are talking about posting evaluation.
This is a point why we can not verify quality of two posters simply by total merit they earned. Where are they come from? Are sources of their earned merit really decentralized and come from different merit sender population or cohort. If they exchange their merit back and forth with friends, local users that can be a serious factor to decrease their quality. In addition, merit sources will have a kind of advantage to receive more merit from forum members. Because lower rank members hope they will receive more merit from sources. Anyway, it is human nature, not serious. Total earned merit is like a skin of your account but it does not exactly reflect your account quality in general as well as in a specific narrower area (Tech, Trading, Security, etc.) |

What happens if a merit source stops meriting posts? Are they booted out?
Only if that merit source sends a request to be blacklist by theymos (blacklist ~ no longer want to be a merit source) or if theymos reshuffles merit sources that he barely does. Because i feel as a merit source it is a duty to you to merit posts, if you are a member that is not a merit source then that is different, you might not give out any merits and it would not be a problem, only that members may not merit you too as you are not involved in the system, but as a merit source deciding to stop meriting posts sounds like 'quiting your job'.
Personally, it is not a duty or a job! Merit sources are doing free meriting jobs but they have to spend their time to do it. So there is no pressure from theymos I think. A merit source is granted if theymos considers that member is a quality member and has ability to clarify bad and good posts, trusted enough to not sell sourced merits to get money etc. |

BPIP is simply a telegraph repeating what occurs on the forum. BPIP also does a couple of others things such as rank those scores that occur on the forum and takes the average of three of those scores to create a "rank" of users.
I don't care about these ranks! Because if I care about it, I should spend my time to understand what algorithms / criteria they use to calculate ranks that is unnecessary. I don't obsess with those ranks especially they are on BPIP. I have my name here, bitcointalk not on BPIP. But honestly so far I don't believe I misunderstand your question with the proposition 'of' and I believe my answer is very clear with the preposition 'from'. If I denied that I did not send any DM to other posters in that topic, I would write "No DM to anyone else" or "No request to anyone else". Make sense? Still not sure why you used 'of' in your DM to me in that question Have you made this request of others?

I agree (as wrote above) but I think yahoo has a valid point. This drama is because I am in DT1 and when I add one member in my trust list, it means I promote them to DT2. Now, it's gone. I am in blacklist of theymos, forever. Back to your story, do you think that if someday you is in DT1 and your alt will automatically become DT2, will it trigger another drama? Now, you are not DT1, no drama. So how about future? I see LoyceV did not add his alt, LoyceMobile in LoyceV's trust list but DarkStar_ add his alt in his trust list as same as you did. Right or wrong, it depends on how you look at it. Personally, I see it is not serious but not adding your alt to your trust list would be a better option. I don't use to trigger a drama card if your alt won't be used to scam anyone. However, if someone want to trigger drama, they will have reason to do that especially if someday you are DT1. Regarding the various questions around points accumulated via positive or negative trust feedback (and even if you don't use BPIP, the point of this thread is that you are infact using the Trust Feedback system).
It seems you love the past trust system and try to stick with BPIP and old algorithm that I never spent my time to read it thoroughly. If you love it, just stick with it but you should not ask other members to use BPIP and consider the trust algorithm on that site as official one of the forum. What I am using is the current version of Trust feedback system, not an old version years ago. Reasons why we have a new trust feedback system. Because past algorithms cause drama when people can paint other walls in dark red. How it becomes darker with time, as said, I don't spend my time to learn its algorithm. But now, it is gone from this forum, isn't it? |

Self scratching makes the trust inclusion look funny, but it's not illegal. I don't agree with it. If I have worked with or been a part of a project with someone for awhile, I normally give em a positive trust rating at some point. I barely add users to my trust list though, very hard to get there.
Agree with you here. Just scrap DT and move to a reputation based system where everyones feedback counts the same.
It is better than the past with old trust system. I recalled that when a DT1 member (or even DT2 member) with high power weight (not sure how it was counted with past trust system), a negative trust feedback will be shown with very big multiplier like -100, -200 in dark red. That causes a lot of panic and drama. Fortunately, with current trust / feedback system, all is the same (at least in visual display in orange). But again, a drama is moving to a third party site (BPIP - early after the launch of new trust/ feedback system, they used the old trust algorithm for people who missed it. Maybe months later, they changed and applied a new algorithm (or their own) for Recognized page. I don't follow it so I am not sure) I am not here to be recognized on BPIP  |
