2421  Other / Meta / Re: List of Meta suggestions for Bitcointalk Improvement on: March 22, 2022, 04:01:22 PM
Why did you not separate topic list into some categories?

I did not check all topics in your list but it seems there are few categories that can be used: Merit (not surprised why it is hottest  Cheesy); trust/ feedback system; new boards; new moderators; new features; etc.

The down side is that you need to have the browser add-on installed to get this and other benefits so it won't work for the newbies, as I initially thought.

Quote locked threads, 120-day merit total, custom themes, and other good stuff. Link for people who have yet known about this one.
2422  Other / Meta / Re: Please State What Criteria or Reasons Willing to Give Your MERITS to Someone? on: March 22, 2022, 02:08:54 AM
To discover it, let's read two topics about from theymos. Why he decided to create the merit system and his advice to forum members exclusively newbies.

Merits should be awarded to members who have good contributions. Sometimes you can see some members exchange merit and it looks like they use merit as a like on social media. Anyway, it is not the main use case of merit on the forum and somewhat is not relevant to the main use case of the merit system.

In reality, 'smart' Putin will live in his closed bubble and won't listen to other ideas.

Honestly, I don't like the username but I am not here to attack you. A note for you is username can not be changed (in most cases) so if you decide to be in the forum with another username, do it as soon as possible. You are newbie so it does not hurt to throw away this account and create another one for your journey here.

Let me share some resources for reading
2424  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Getting more skills in trading on: March 21, 2022, 07:50:07 AM
To get experience in either trading or investment, you need both time and repetitions. To be safe a long the way, you must use small capital for it and use very small money (compares to your whole capital) for each order (repetition) you do.

Why I advice so?

Because most of newbies do get failed trading, investments and to minimize your loses, this approach is helpful. Make sure that you can get as many repetitions for your loses as possible to get lessons and improve yourself but they won't steal all of your capital, won't kill you.
2425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be cautious regarding highly rated apps on: March 21, 2022, 07:39:47 AM
Don't blindly follow rating/reviews - these stats can be easily manipulated.
To be safe, firstly people should visit official websites to get links for downloading applications.

However, before doing so, let's ask yourself and answer a question, why do you need that application? Is the website, service is legit and well to use? If not, stop thinking of application download, from any source.

Quote
Then you look at 1 star/negative reviews and come to know the reality.
It's the point. Total number of review makes sense because we need to have a big sample size of review to have an overview. Small number of review can easily be faked.

Massive negative review is not good in general that is a signal to stop thinking of application download.

In addition, don't rely on application review only but let's double check with search engines by key words such as scam accusation, phishing app, etc. If all info gives you a negative overview, let's forget that service and application.

2427  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Forum I have been to on: March 21, 2022, 02:44:56 AM
Search > Read > Search > Read is an important cycle. It helps you to find available resources and answers for your questions. If you can not find it, you can make a topic or ask in available similar topic on the same issue to ask for more detailed answers.

Many new members (assumed so) make repeated topics on same issue, it implies two possibilities
  • They don't know how to search effectively. If so, above topics are for them to start
  • They don't mind to read and search. Simply to make post for post counting or merit hunting
2428  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have 3 important questions on: March 20, 2022, 11:47:42 AM
1. Attacker might able to steal private key after user make a transaction from special address, but how do you plan to prevent this accident?
Only if you download a phishing wallet and leak your private key or you use custodial wallet and get trapped by phishing one, login with info which is stolen later.

Quote
3. Assuming a transaction is reversed, that means blocks would become invalid since it's hash (along with all next blocks) will become invalid? How do you plan to solve this problem?
Transactions are irreversible. In addition, the older a transaction is, the less chance to reverse it sucessfully. Because cost will become more expensive with older transactions.

One way to think about the blockchain is like layers in a geological formation, or glacier core sample. The surface layers might change with the seasons, or even be blown away before they have time to settle. But once you go a few inches deep, geological layers become more and more stable. By the time you look a few hundred feet down, you are looking at a snapshot of the past that has remained undisturbed for millions of years. In the blockchain, the most recent few blocks might be revised if there is a chain recalculation due to a fork. The top six blocks are like a few inches of topsoil. But once you go more deeply into the blockchain, beyond six blocks, blocks are less and less likely to change. After 100 blocks back, there is so much stability that the coinbase transaction—the transaction containing newly mined bitcoin—can be spent. A few thousand blocks back (a month) and the blockchain is settled history, for all practical purposes. While the protocol always allows a chain to be undone by a longer chain and while the possibility of any block being reversed always exists, the probability of such an event decreases as time passes until it becomes infinitesimal.
2429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Satoshi was dumb on: March 20, 2022, 03:51:19 AM
Satoshi is smart.
Not only smart but also brave to start working and creating something that can change the world.

Satoshi makes Bitcoin for millions, not millionaires. If you can take it and are able to hold it tightly, you will become millionaire or even billionaire in future.

Quote
We were dumb because we did not believe in his research and followed him. We underestimate the potency of bitcoin to become popular like what we saw today.
People are mostly dumb because they naively believe in propaganda of governments, believe in fiat currencies and central banks. This pandemic opens our eyes on how governments can easily to add new supply of fiat currency and makes inflation worse in short period of time.

If you want to learn more about Hal Finney, let me share some resources for you
He has very first contribution to Bitcoin together with Satoshi Nakamoto. His life is an inspirational one for everyone who want to debut in crypto.

In addition, let's take this chance to learn about Satoshi's lesson

How does this work?  Is it a trick I do not get, or is it just for bitly?  I tried adding a '+' at the end of bitcointalk's URL and it just loaded up, nothing more.  Would not do the '+' trick simply because I would not trust pushing the Enter button on a link I do not trust anyway.
It's applied for shortened links such as bitly links. Adding "+" at the end of URL link and you or anyone click on that link will be directed to a page with full details about the link.

Let's try to click on the link in my previous post that is a shortened one of this topic link.  Cheesy
2432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Satoshi was dumb on: March 19, 2022, 11:54:20 AM
Satoshi was naive at worst and plain dumb at worst.
No. Satoshi is smart and the world get benefit from Satoshi's initiative.

Quote
Back in 2008/2009 when Satoshi created/launched Bitcoin, he made the decision to 1) Have no premine 2) Never spent any of the coins he minted. 3) Disappear to eradicate himself as the last form of 'authority'.
Satoshi Nakamoto creates Bitcoin and even more, activities after that is unbelievable because it brings more value to Bitcoin. All of them makes Bitcoin more scarce and more decentralized that help it is an unique and most valuable cryptocurrency we have so far. If Satoshi lost all those Bitcoin, it is gift for everyone as Satoshi said in one of posts on the forum about lost Bitcoin.

Lost coins only make everyone else's coins worth slightly more.  Think of it as a donation to everyone.

Quote
13 years later, there are many thousands of shitcoins, most of which had some form of premine, made the creators bank and are still in control to a high degree. These shitecoins are worth millions and some even 100s of billions.
Don't compare Bitcoin with shit coins or meme tokens. They are not at same levels so they are non-comparable.

  • Check shortened links with https://redirectdetective.com/
  • When you see a shortened link, you can add + at the end of it in order to get information about that link

2434  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forum boards and moderators. on: March 19, 2022, 06:14:19 AM
There are two admins on the forum, recent years:
The assignment for a new moderator can be done by admin or sometimes, they will ask for community opinion, poll but in the end, admins make decisions for assignment or not.

Example
2435  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Occupational hazards of trading crypto on: March 19, 2022, 06:08:44 AM
Trading is bad by multiple reasons
  • Most of traders are in loses, not in profit. About 5% of them can earn profit
  • Most of traders spend too many times on computers, laptop, on chair, in front of computer screen that consequently result in some health issues: physically and mentally. Physically, some issues can be Herniated Disc, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, etc. Mentally, lots of stress.
  • When you are in loss, you will make next worse decisions and kill yourself.
  • Don't use large part of your capital for trading. It's better to use Spot trading and please don't start leverage trading if even with Spot trading, you can not manage your position well enough.
2436  Other / Meta / Re: Which is the best sub-forum for Altcoin Technical Discussion? on: March 19, 2022, 05:54:05 AM
Altcoin discussion is the best. There is Speculation (Altcoins) for price speculation but generally, there are not considerable meaningful discussions in Altcoin board. Most of them are spam posts and there are many similar topics but with low quality posts inside.
2437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What kind of software should beginners know? on: March 18, 2022, 12:22:13 PM
why not just TOR and wallet like electrum.
Electrum is not good for your anonymity and privacy. If you want a better wallet, let's use Wasabi wallet.

Electrum is more easily to use, lighter in storage and in my opinion, it is good enough for simple people who only need to make Bitcoin transactions. That wallet has changed addresses to use as well. However, if you are serious with anonymity and privacy, Electrum wallet is not for you: no Tor, no Coinjoin transactions.

If use Electrum, remember to verify it before using

Best to use Linux, not Windows.

1.  Now if you click on a link but not sure if it is dangerous or not, you should be using the AV immediately to scan it right?
Think? Why do you click on links from strangers at beginnings? Do you know there are hidden risks from such links potentially?

Protection is better than cure so let's be careful and never opening links from strangers. You will be safe even without any free or paid Internet Security or Antivirus softwares. Another thing, such softwares can not completely protect your devices and there are false negative so you should never totally rely on them.
2439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think DEX is safer? Here is why I don't on: March 18, 2022, 04:56:49 AM
There are pros and cons when you use DEX or CEX.

On CEX, as a user, you don't own your private key for your wallet that put your capital under risk of scam exit, hack, exchange seize, shutdown, whatever. In general, without key, you won't be able to control your coin.

On DEX, you own your private key and sometimes, you will have to approve access to your key for swap, trading, etc. When you done, you should revoke such access approval, with tools such as

However, for people who are bad at security for their devices, passwords, wallets, etc. Using DEX means some risk, even more than on CEX. Because if they lose such information, there is no second, third protection layer for them like on CEX. So their coin will be more easily be stolen than on CEX in such cases.
