snip
Additionally, you don't have to fully quote any post you reply. You can use snip like me. Why should you snip unnecessary part of quoted posts?
  • It reduces your post length, and a page length (one page contains 20 posts). Imagine one page with 20 posts like yours, it is a 'shit' page.
  • It avoid distraction on readers.

2022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be safe from Hackers on: July 04, 2022, 06:00:25 AM
Even if some official social media account of any of the institution promote cryptocurrencies, giveaways or NFT, don't fall for it. By the time make a clear analysis and go further.
    Basic rules don't change
    • Be careful with any link or email from strangers or strange sources, especially if it contains financial incentives.
    • Don't click on strange link if you can not verify its source
    • Keep your mind neutral and avoid being greed with invitation from strangers

Yesterday the British Army's Social media accounts were hacked and more scams were promoted. It is always good to stay safe as hackers are always in search of possible ways to scam common people
Damn! Hack means they have very bad password and very bad security. In addition, this account belongs to British Army that is a very bad news. How a governmental, army force can have too bad security like that?

2024  Other / Meta / Re: Issues With The Forum's Search Engine on: July 04, 2022, 02:24:18 AM
To be honest forum search is suck if you search with long contents/words, since it will bring not accurate result or error.
Do you know even Google has limits on total words in a search query?

Basically, when you are searching for something, you must have clear mind on what you're looking for. You must have keywords for your search. Keywords help you to narrow down search results and give you more relevant results.

If you don't know what keywords to use, that means you don't actually know what you are looking for.
2025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin address re-usage can lead to theft of private keys on: July 04, 2022, 02:12:07 AM
    1. It is quite harmful to one's privacy and becomes an impediment to BTC censorship resistance
It is why we have changed addresses and there is advice to use changed addresses and avoid to reuse addresses.

    Quote
    2. It can leave one open to niche attacks and one becomes vulnerable to these cyber thieves who will extract private keys from signatures after a transaction has been made.
Do you know that a process from Private key > Public Key > Public (Receiving) address is a one-way process.

    Quote
    3. Quantum computers could extract private keys if these addresses are re used.
Quantum computers are things used to spread fear about Bitcoin. It started years ago and now still can not break Bitcoin private keys. Do you really think that Bitcoin protocol won't be upgraded over time in order to be better for itself and to protect itself from potential attacks, exclusively Quantum computers.
2026  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Then what will happen to your account? on: July 04, 2022, 01:51:53 AM
The forum discourage account selling so it is similar to the case you ask.

Account selling is discouraged because a buyer, a new owner of one account can use it for wrong purposes such as scam. In case you have a very trusted account here, and you fortunately pass away, will your account be used correctly (at least no scam) by your relatives.

Who knows what will your relatives do with it?

Forum has some mechanism to highlight potential suspicious activities:
    • Password, email change/ reset via email (in sec log): https://bitcointalk.org/seclog.php
    • Password, email change in profile page (click on Trust and you will see such changes). There is a window to display such changes, maybe up to 30 days (?)
2027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MicroStrategy Acquires Additional 480 Bitcoins on: July 03, 2022, 08:29:14 AM
MicroStrategy has purchased an additional 480 bitcoins for ~$10.0 million at an average price of ~$20,817 per #bitcoin.
As of 6/28/22 MicroStrategy holds ~129,699 bitcoins  acquired for ~$3.98 billion at an average price of ~$30,664 per bitcoin.
Michael Saylor is a very strong investor with strong diamond belief in tech and future of Bitcoin.

I would like to point out another viewpoint with which you will not count total value of Bitcoin he has bought so far or value of each buying batch. Let's consider it in Controlled supply of Bitcoin.

After the reward era #7, 4 more halvings, there will be 164,062.5 BTC available in future supply for miners to mine and get from block rewards. Now, let's compare that number with total BTC is holding by Micro Strategy. If Micro Strategy holds those BTC until that halving, they will own 79% of rest future supply. That is massive guys.

    2028  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Beware]New scammer scheme using exchange on: July 03, 2022, 08:12:20 AM
I decided to not post the exchange name so that no one will click it and save it to there history. It will be my conscience if someone mistakenly register on it due to this post so I preferred not to brought up here the name.
    It is a good practice
    • Avoid posting links of scam projects, scam websites or exchanges.
    • Instead, you can put it into code block or something like exchangeA[dot]com.

Another thing is your message should be clear, from your topic title to your topic content. So readers won't misunderstand what you imply. Writing is an art and if you have good writing skills, you can convey your idea to text much better.

The warning on this type of scammer would eventually be good if youll expose a full details especially the name. I mean its not like you are accusing them, but since your post almost says they are scam then might as well warn others 100% by giving its name, you are already helping a lot of members to avoid such exchange.
OP meant scammers try to direct potential victims to an exchange to scam them. It does not mean that exchange is used for that scam is a scam exchange.
2029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can BTC with TARO turn it into a Smart Contract Platform? on: July 03, 2022, 07:56:45 AM
The podcast I was listening I think was discussing about this taproot update which this could turn Bitcoin a sort of a competitor of ETH like a smart contract platform.
Taproot does not result in integration of smart contract on Bitcoin network. It does not create anything similar to smart contract. It is what people hope and speculate but the main benefits of Taproot are:
    • Improve scalability
    • Higher capacity to handle transactions: higher TPS
    • Reduce transaction fee
    • Fungibility
    • Script innovation

We have been enjoying cheaper fee rates on Bitcoin network after the wider adoption of Segwit, and in latest months Taproot.

    2031  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Beware]New scammer scheme using exchange on: July 02, 2022, 01:58:06 PM
Recently some random guy message me on telegram and ask me to help him withdraw his balance to avoid tax. He is claiming that the exchange ask him to do KYC and he is not comfortable with that. Then he showed me his balance as proof.
It is not a new scam scheme. It is an old one.

Let me reveal that years ago, many scammers did it already. They contacted me and told me that they got issues with accounts and want to get help to make a transaction like 0.1 BTC, then I will get reward from it (maybe 0.05 BTC or 0.1 BTC). I don't remember exact deals I were offered but it is something like that.

Offer details can be different but this scam scheme is the same and not new.

Very basic rule, if a stranger contacts you first, gives you any deal relates with money, it's scam.
2032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins have intrinsic monetary value, don't they? on: July 02, 2022, 01:36:25 PM
Don't do Binance good. Here's some better source: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Controlled_supply
Bitcoin Wiki should be one of first resources we should look at when we're finding something about Bitcoin.

I know a very helpful article from Jameson Lopp.
    • How is the 21 Million Bitcoin Cap Defined and Enforced?
    • Interesting fact is many points in that article was discussed on the forum months or years ago. I don't say Jameson stole ideas of forum members as fact is fact but it proves that the forum has many knowledgeable members

2034  Other / Meta / Re: What about Bitcointalk APP for Both Smartphone and Desktop Platform on: July 01, 2022, 04:05:17 PM
But My motive was that what we have today if we stick on it and nver put Efforts to evolve them we die sooner.
My preference is typing on computer, not on mobile. So mobile application is not in my need-list. Even forum has a mobile app, I am sure I will not install and use it if it is not mandatory like Reddit app (which I believe theymos will not require forum users to do). And you know, I don't use Reddit app now and in future.

Bitcoin will not die, the forum will not die. Believe me. Both Bitcoin and Bitcointalk forum are legendary assets and have very loyal communities behind.
2035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strong Hands Are Buying on: July 01, 2022, 04:01:26 PM
You can follow up investments from strong hands with Bitcoin Treasuries. No matter what you see, you should not rely on their investment for your own one.

A live chart for Bitcoin wallet sizes: > 1,000 BTC is helpful too.

Buying from strong hands is not enough because in the market, we always have exchange between seller and buyer. In order to get a bottom, miner capitulation and retail investors, weak institutional investors should capitulate too.
2036  Other / Meta / Re: What about Bitcointalk APP for Both Smartphone and Desktop Platform on: July 01, 2022, 03:45:35 PM
Applications are more preffered then Website platforms in Regular Utility.
You must start with basics of this forum
    • What is it for? Discussion, idea exchange, etc.
    • What is main type of discussions? Text-based
Now, let's think, do you think typing text on mobile is easier and more convenient than on computer or laptop. My preference is the latter one, not mobile devices.

In addition, I don't want to install too many apps on my device.

With this forum software, there are solutions (but I don't like them) to have mobile compatible version
    • Adding either ;wap; wap2 ;imode at the end of URL link
    • It works for text, not for table

    Example:
    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404781.0;wap
    or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404781.0;wap2
    or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404781.0;imode

Everything has drawbacks apps can contain bugs but that can be improved i know that idea will be already experienced as platform running from time but i think Application should be considered.
Everything is built by coding can have bugs, not only mobile applications.
2037  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How certain are you that cryptocurrency will experience more parabolic bull runs on: July 01, 2022, 03:06:32 PM
Your question is too broad as it refers to cryptocurrency. There are thousands of cryptocurrency and not all of them will be able to survive after a bear market. Dead projects will not have a new parabolic curve. Only good and strong projects will recover from bear market, reclaim its all time high and start a new parabola ride to make new all time high.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB will have new parabolic curves in 2024 or 2025. Other coins, I don't know.
    2038  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bottom? on: July 01, 2022, 03:03:24 PM
Now that Michael Saylor and El Salvador have purchased BTC at $19,000, we can be certain that the bottom is nowhere near
Don't try to find a bottom. When you have believe in Bitcoin and see a price falls 70% or 80% from its latest all time high, you can consider to accumulate it.

The market now is like the one in 2018. You don't know how long will the bear market last and you can not know where is a final bottom. When a new bull run starts and tops up like reaching to $60,000 in 2021 then it does not matter you buy Bitcoin at $6,000 or $9,000 or $13,000 months or years ago.

Now, it is the same situation, bottom can be $17,600 or $12,000 or $10,000 but is it matter if a new all time high in 2024 or 2025 will be $100,000 or $150,000 for one Bitcoin.
2039  Other / Off-topic / Re: Password managers or passwords from memory on: July 01, 2022, 01:37:45 PM
We should admit that password nowadays can be crack no matter how hard it was using brute force software so  choosing the best password is least of my concern
If you set up a long, strong and unique password, it's very hard to brute force it if you don't leak any part of it.

using secondary security such as sms verification and 2fa to enhance my security to maximum level that hackers can’t penetrate unless he has access to my phone. But all this hack event is only possible if you share your login details or you download malicious software that will give the hacker your login details.
You can use Yubikey as one of secondary protection.

Some people store 2FA and account password on the same device. It is not a good practice as it violates a basic that 2FA should be on different device and you should not store all eggs in a single basket.

If you login your email, your exchange account and install its 2FA on a same device, what will happen if you lose that device? 2FA can not protect you in this case if exchange does not detect suspicious things and ask for additional KYC before approving withdrawal request from that device.
2040  Other / Off-topic / Re: Password managers or passwords from memory on: June 30, 2022, 12:43:55 PM
You can use any mean to store your password, passphrase, mnemonic seed, private key but it should not be memory and should not be online. You can use either password manager, paper, metal sheet and more but it must be offline one and not be your memory. Your memory can be lost when you are ageing or get an accident. Online places are dangerous because you will be exposed with more risk.

Some people store their password in Gmail, in their social media account like Facebook, in Telegram, in cloud storage service. All of these are very bad practically.
