1781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why I prefer Decentralized wallet on: August 12, 2022, 11:53:55 AM
To avoid stories that touches, I suggest holding assets in Decentralized wallet. Remember "Not your keys not your wallet"
There is no centralized or decentralized wallet. I believe you implied about custodial wallets and non custodial wallets.

If you use centralized or decentralized, you mean about centralized exchanges and decentralized exchanges or services.

1782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If the Governments Planned to Keep the Limited 21 Millions BTC in Their Custody on: August 11, 2022, 04:59:54 AM
there are 21 millions bicoin in circulation in the whole world to use.
More accurately, please!

There are only ~ 21 millions of bitcoin in total supply. Not all of them will be used by people on Earth. Many of them received from mining from block rewards and lost forever (by losing private keys in early years of Bitcoin network).

Quote
And I dont know if another ones can be produced to add to the already existing ones. But as for the moment there 21m.
It can be done by a consensus in protocol but it won't happen. I strongly believe that it won't happen because the current total supply creates value for Bitcoin. The Bitcoin community don't have reasons to vote and increase total supply of Bitcoin.

There are many Bitcoin forks but they are not real Bitcoin. There is a unique Bitcoin, the original one with ~ 21 millions in total.

Quote
So if the state governments planned against bitcoin and buy all the 21 millions to among themselves
To buy, they must buy it from sellers. Do you think governments can be sure that they actually buy all bitcoin from non-governmental holders?
1783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5 truths about bitcoin, in my opinion? on: August 11, 2022, 04:43:16 AM
1. Bitcoin will probably make a lot of people rich especially for long term holders... again
Only if they use own money to buy Bitcoin and hold it for long term. If they borrow money to buy Bitcoin, they can not hold it for too long as consequence of repayment call.

Quote
2. Bitcoin is the future and bitcoin is the medium of exchange because it is widely accepted, portable, shareable, accessible, commensurate and relatively stable. That's why it will be used as future currency.
Please don't restrict Bitcoin to only one or a few use cases. It has more use cases.

Quote
3. Bitcoin can save the world
Please stop saying this, it is not true! It is sort of propaganda from Bitcoin maximalist but it does not make Bitcoin becomes better than it should be.

Perfectionalizing anything is not good!

Quote
4. Bitcoin is not very easy to understand and there is too much misinformation about it.
In reality, in future, there will be times when people don't actually understand Bitcoin but still can use it for their own interests. Like now, we don't have to understand technical things behind the Internet to use it, daily.
1784  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be wary of crypto/blockchain bridges! on: August 11, 2022, 03:52:19 AM
Some drawbacks of crypto bridges
  • They are not safe. Lot of hacks recent months
  • Bridging fee is high and expensive
  • Sometimes, you will have to wait a little bit long for the completion of your bridge

My personal choice, I don't use bridge if I can choose a wanted chain for my withdrawal from exchanges. It is safer because I don't have to take risk on my own by using bridges and I mostly have cheaper fee from withdrawal than bridging fee.
1785  Economy / Reputation / Re: Only for the BOLD and Braves. Let's have a discussion. on: August 11, 2022, 02:27:29 AM
Maybe we should have a community voting system for who gets DT instead? Obviously the "DT club" alone cannot be trusted with responsibility. Anyone who does not deserve to be in the system gets voted out by the entire Bitcointalk community. We can have votes once a year or something.
Community vote won't make sense!

First, the current trust system is decentralized and community-based but still have drawbacks

Second, if you see past community votes that can be manipulated by local communities. If you have a big local community and big fans behind, you will get more votes. Unfortunately, it does not mean you are better than others or have higher quality than others.

Even if you count the voting power (voting weight) by earned merits, it still does not work well! Earned merits are not the same in a ways you earned it globally or locally (international threads or local threads) or just inside your local communities. In addition, you will get more votes if you are merit sources. I mean between two posters, a merit source poster and a non-merit source one, with a same post (same content, same quality), the merit source will more easily to receive merit Cheesy

Your idea is not bad but it can not work too much well.
1786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin in Space (Casacius Coin) - What to do with it after it comes back? on: August 10, 2022, 07:15:52 AM
"First Bitcoin in Space"

We will receive a certificate from SpaceX stating that this has been into space and back. We are most likely going to NFT it.
I don't consider it is a great initiative. Personally, it is a sort of marketing for benefit of SpaceX and engaging entities (if there are).

I'd like to see a set up of a mini mining farm in Space and if it happens, it won't be an iconic event. It proves that Bitcoin is really universal. When you can have the Internet connection, Bitcoin protocol, software, mining equipment, you can connect to Bitcoin network, other nodes and mine Bitcoin as well as confirm Bitcoin transactions.

When will it happen on the Moon?

When it happens, it means Bitcoin already globally accepted and is legal tender on Earth. Because those areas in space still belong to government controls.
1787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin art created by AI {gallery} ... and the satoshi portrait as well. on: August 10, 2022, 06:55:55 AM
Nice collection!

AI technology has been grown very impressively recently.

Two years ago, AI wrote high quality articles and now can draw high quality arts. In theory, many of their works are better than things created by normal people (not experts).

I am not sure how they get inputs to make those arts but there are applications to create personalized avatars that I reject to use. They are risky but some people easily to accept their requirements, and upload their personal photos in order to create funny avatars.

When they realize what they do are stupid, it's very late.
1788  Economy / Reputation / Re: Clearing my trust list on: August 10, 2022, 06:49:00 AM
I think suchmoon asked to be excluded, and I also see tranthidung on the list, who asked recently as well.
No data tracking on it from any forum member (if I am not missing anything), but I can recall suchmoon, Hhampuz, me (of course, there are likely more cases).
1789  Economy / Reputation / Re: Clearing my trust list on: August 10, 2022, 03:14:01 AM
If you want to get rid of the "drama" hassles of being on DT1, just PM theymos and he can blacklist you like he did for me.
theymos will complete it when he is online. Very fast and simple.  Cheesy

Quote
I can tell you, I don't have to deal with a LOT of bs that I used to for whatever reason, as I don't always have the time to play the role I felt I needed to be for being on DT1 if that makes sense ....
It is probably because some members want to be in DT1 and spots for DT1 are limited. So drama occurs because they want to get in. For me, neither DT1 nor merit source is my dream.

Your contribution makes your name, not any role like DT1 or merit source. Obviously, such things can unofficial raise your role and importance (somewhat) in the forum so someone might like this and want to get it.

They forget the fact that being a DT1 or a merit source does not make them have better quality, more contribution or being more important than other members.

Quote
My life is much simpler here now.
It simplifies the way we use the forum.  Cheesy

Did you mean DT1 selection? It won’t because to be eligible for DT1, you must have built your custom trust list which will have 10 users included
Yes, it is prerequisite to be in DT1 selection list by theymos each month. After you have a call from theymos, whether you are in DT1 or not will depend on inclusion lists of other DT1 members.

Quote
For DT1, theymos blacklist from the selection but DT2 isn't selection.
Therefore, if you are sure that you want to get out of DT1 forever, let send a request to theymos for blacklisting you from DT1 list. I could be wrong but maybe there is no case asked theymos to change from blacklist to whitelist (including into DT1 selection list) again. It's funny. I am doubtful that theymos will approve such get out - get in again request.  Grin

If you just want to get out temporarily, do what yahoo62278 do (wipe out your DT inclusion list). You can customize it later and get in DT1 list later.
1790  Other / Meta / Re: Appeal Mia_houston on: August 09, 2022, 11:48:43 PM
I'm Mia_houston. I want to an appeal for this account because today my account was banned due to allegations of ban evasion related to the rindo account.
If it is a ban evasion from rindo account, you should start with the account you was banned, not with Mia_houston. If the rindo account was not be given a second chance, Mia_houston will still be banned.

Quote
Please reconsider the evidence reported.
If you make a ban appeal, you should provide evidence of your contribution, to show good net effects for unban. You did not include evidence in this thread.

Autoban for rindo account means chance for it is extremely low but autoban does not mean automatically banned by bot.
1791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US government is targeting mixers. Are BTC mixers next? on: August 09, 2022, 10:08:05 AM
What are the chances of coinjoin and chipmixer getting in their scope? No service can judge a user and their intention for using their mixer.
No party last forever but if current generation of mixers are broken down, there will be more future generations and governments always chase behind the citizen innovations. It is similar to Great Fire Walls in China that can not prevent 100% users there to access beyond that Great Fire Walls.

Not sure how ChipMixer created and registered on the Internet since the first place but if the governments can not find team behind it (that I believe it is), they can not shut down a service. Shut down a current domain does not make sense.
1792  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why I love Bitcoin and bitcointalk on: August 09, 2022, 09:42:04 AM
With this forum being an anonymous platform I don't need to know anyone or work with a group before getting whatever guidance and correction I need to guide my decision, And Bitcoin on the other hand made my financial life highly anonymous to the core.
Anonymous platform, are you sure about that?

The forum does not require members to do KYC but it is not an anonymous platform. There are Retention/ Privacy info. Read details.

However, it is not completely private or anonymous. Your account has many factors such as email address, username, password, IP address and more. It starts from an email you use for registration.
1793  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Upload Audio at somewhere and share the link in Bitcointalk on: August 09, 2022, 01:48:49 AM
Forum is a text-based so we should focus on text discussions. For graphics, we should use it only when necessary. Don't overuse graphics, because it can cause troubles for people who have limited access to Internet.

Same for videos. If you want to share a video, you can
  • Write a brief introduction about it
  • Leave a video link
  • Then, if a reader feel interested in after reading your introduction, that user will click on video link to watch it.
1794  Economy / Reputation / Re: Only for the BOLD and Braves. Let's have a discussion. on: August 08, 2022, 02:51:38 PM
For both tags, your and his (Jollygood), I would say that they are inappropriate and revenge-minded.
Let me quote the post I merited because I have same approach. I change it a little bit to generalize the idea that is applied for every user.
If any user has nothing better to do in his life than to write multiple feedback on your profile, that tells more about him than about you.
Exchange negative trust feedback is unnecessary in most cases. I rarely put anyone into my distrust list but if I do, I will not likely to remove it. It stay forever but I don't see reasons why I have to leave any negative trust feedback on the user I distrust. Take it simple and reduce non sense drama.

All that being said, I still discourage retaliatory ratings, and with these changes I encourage people to try to "bury the hatchet" and de-escalate rather than trying to use any increased retaliatory power you now have. Also, it's best to make your own custom list, and you must do this if you want to be on DT1.
1795  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie! Protect your name, it is your brand on: August 08, 2022, 07:35:19 AM
I just want to add that staff members can change their display names (not usernames) and probably many members do not know that there is a difference between the two.
They can but I am not sure they can change it by themselves as privilege of being staffs or they have to send a request to theymos.

In addition, VIP members and admins, global moderators, staffs or some special cases can have special titles for their accounts.
1796  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a name be edited after joining this forum? on: August 08, 2022, 06:02:31 AM
Changing just a name with 50 Bitcoin doesn't worth it. It better he open a new account since he's a newbie.
It's one of bonus when you donate 50 BTC to the forum. It should not be a reason for your donation.

I believe the admins have strong reasons to not allow users change username easily. It can result in more scams when scammers can change usernames around. Not only in the forum but also in other platforms, if they allow users to change account usersnames, it should be only one chance, after you create your account and is given a random name. After you change it once, no more change to change it. Same reasons, to avoid scam exploitation.
1797  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a name be edited after joining this forum? on: August 08, 2022, 04:56:01 AM
Theymos usually doesn't change the username and as you mentioned, it's only the display name which is changed. But it's not that the username is unchanged for all users.
If theymos changes someone's display name due to his/her privacy, he changes the username as well.
For more information, read the post made by theymos, before.
I knew that post of theymos. Such cases that have username changed, not only display name changed is very rare.

I don't know what are such cases honestly. Lot of donators or VIP members have display names changed. You can check there in Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs

Additionally, in rare cases, you don't have to achieve good net effect to be approved by theymos. One case (about 2 or 3 years ago) just woke up, and made a request, then it was approved a few hours later. Reasons are because of personal identity, dox as I recalled. That user has its name changed to a random one, and abandoned that account too.
1798  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Competition for the best slogan for Betnomi / Prize $100 in BTC! on: August 08, 2022, 03:54:30 AM
  • Bet with best games & get best experience at Betnomi
1799  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a name be edited after joining this forum? on: August 08, 2022, 03:44:08 AM
You can edit (change) your display name if you have a VIP badge that requires 50 BTC in donation. It is impossible and unrealistic nowadays.

You still have chance to change the display name (not real username that is unchanged for all users) by sending your request to theymos. Chance is low if you are a newbie account and does not have reasons to convince theymos.

Please read another post of mine for more details.

Alternatively, it is easy for you to abandon this account and create a new one with the name you want.
1800  Other / Meta / Re: Is a user able to Trust/Distrust even when they are banned? on: August 07, 2022, 04:04:01 PM
If nothing has changed since 2019, at the time when my account was banned, then deleting reviews was possible. Nothing else, like, for example, a change to a neutral review or a negative one, and this would mean a new action, was impossible.
It is confirmed by the alt of naim027 (LoyceV quoted above already) and this confirmation means nothing was change in forum policy since 2019.

I confirm, that I can modify my trust list which I confirmed to LoyceV via Email a few weeks ago. I cannot leave any new feedback but I can delete old feedback that I left.

You can't leave new feedback if you get banned, but apparently you can delete feedback that you have submitted earlier before you got banned. I wonder if switching is also possible. From negative to neutral or from neutral to positive, for example. To me, that constitutes as leaving new feedback and therefore shouldn't be possible.
And it makes sense too because a banned user is allowed to use the forum in View-mode only. Changing your own trust list I don't mention DT members here or delete your past trust feedback does not affect other users.
