2001  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto Firm Voyager Temporarily Suspends Withdrawals, Deposits, and Trading !!! on: July 06, 2022, 12:48:21 PM
Voyager Digital today announced it had suspended trading, deposits, withdrawals, and loyalty rewards on its platform.
Starting with UST/ LUNA crisis, then Celcius liquidation risk and some lending platforms recently. I am sad to see people still store their money on risky platforms.

You read it right. Any third-party platforms are risky to store your coin. However, high risky platforms have unsustainable financial models such as too high APYs, and some shady things that have yet been clear with their public audits. In the middle of bear market and with net effects from some crashes, collapses recent months, it's safest to withdraw your coins out of third party lending platforms, just to be safe.

If they are fine, in next few months, you can deposit your money back. At the moment, just don't, let's protect your money in your wallet (non-custodial).
2002  Other / Meta / Re: Anonymous users safety on: July 06, 2022, 11:13:04 AM
something came up my mind, that are anonymous users safe on this forum? Because the trust can no be seen by anonymous users, I also think that any flag raised can not also be seen by anonymous users.
You're using incorrect term here.

Guests and anonymous users, they are different. If you have account that is anonymous, you are a user of this forum. If you don't have an account and only visit the forum to read, you are a guest.

So do you mean guest in this context?

As you can see here, I only change the username to "Anonymous" on request.

Why are people that do not register on this forum not seeing the positive, neutral and negative trust of registered users on this forum when they are able to see their signature and avatar?
You must register an account, login as a member of this forum to see trust, trust feedback. They don't need to do so to see active flag and I believe flag has its role to help guests know what topics belong to scam projects (or highly scam projects).

A newbie-warning flag is active if there are more people supporting such a flag than opposing it. It shows a banner on topics started by the flagged user for guests and for users with less than 7 days of login time.

2006  Other / Meta / Re: Knowing Which Gender is the Most on The Bitcointalk Forum on: July 06, 2022, 10:40:21 AM
It would be very surprising if there were a large number of women. because I'm sure most of the members in this forum think that most of the members in this forum are man. Because I think so too.
You must have a good survey to make conclusion. With forum, it is impossible. Especially with Bitcointalk forum where people have more interests to protect their anonymity, including their genders.

Maybe this voting there are those who think it's not important and not needed.
Maybe it does not needed.

Maybe it is low quality because online voting is very biased with serious information bias. You don't know a voter is male or female and a vote as male or female is honest and accurate.

They are like JP Morgan.

I don't know how to do this but if anyone can make a chart like this one, for JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, that will be great.

So the thing is today sometime ago, I withdraw some ETH from FTX exchange to my trust wallet account!
But I got no notification of receiving the ETH. Soon after that a notification popped up and somehow all the assets (ETH) was send to some random address.

First don't bold all your text.

Doing this instead. Only bold a few words you want to emphasize. Else, don't bold anything.

You did a bad practice when transfer all or most of your money in one transaction. My advice is always make a small transaction first, then if it goes well, do the rest amount you want.

2011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now is the time to just wait for the price of Bitcoin to come down. on: July 05, 2022, 04:57:21 PM
Do DCA and you will bought at the lowest.
DCA does not mean finding a bottom so it does not result in buy at the lowest. Sometimes it is but most of times it is not.

With Dollar Cost Averaging, you make plan to use your income and capital for investment on regular basis. The basis can be weekly, monthly, quarterly and you don't try to find lowest price for each regular buying round. It does not a big intention when you apply DCA.

DCA regularly has another advantage: you won't go empty with capital to do it. Exception is when you lose your jobs and no longer have enough regular income that should be used for DCA. With DCA, you can buy at many entry prices, from high to low.
2012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There is a Museum of Bitcoin Mining History in Caracas, Venezuela on: July 05, 2022, 11:00:24 AM
Venezuela has lot of interesting ideas. They are like one of pioneers in Bitcoin industry.

When I read your topic, I am doubtful that whether Venezuela just made a first ever Bitcoin Mining Museum. I did not believe it is the first ever in history. After searching, impressively to know, it's an actual the first one, in history. A round of applause for that country and for people who made it.

2014  Other / Meta / Re: My Hero Member Account Hacked. please help on: July 05, 2022, 02:35:58 AM
If I remember correctly, when we set up email account security, in addition to asking for a phone number, google also asks us to set up a recovery email. If your primary email is hacked or your password is changed unexpectedly, it will send you a notification to the recovery email. please double check that you have them set up, if so check your alternate email inbox.
There is [BEWARE] Sim Port Attack and 2 factor authentication for email but it depends on how you set up password for your email and whether as well as how you set up 2FA for your email. Recovery email is a one of last resort to recover your email.

Quote
I don't remember exactly reading somewhere if our email was hacked and we completely lost access. The last way we can do it is to send report to support and information including primary email, recovery email, phone number and most importantly, the date you created the email account.
Each email provider has different security mechanism as well as recovery method for users from Back up codes, 2FA or recovery (alternate) email. You must to read their guides or their warning/ reminder that regularly pops-up if you have yet set up enough security for your email.
2015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will BTC survive if encryption/cryptography becomes illegal? on: July 05, 2022, 02:11:26 AM
I've read somewhere about the US proposing a ban on cryptography/encryption algorithms for good.
For good? What for?

They try to hide facts as much as possible from the public. Now they are proposing to ban on cryptography/ encryption for good, really? Or it is just for their own good for centralized power?

Quote
Doing such a thing will not only mark the end of privacy, but also traditional cryptocurrencies we know and love today. Bitcoin will be the one cryptocurrency mostly affected by the government's measures.
No matter what is solution or tool used by governments, Bitcoin will be their first target if they are aiming at cryptocurrencies. They and we know that Bitcoin is a biggest cryptocurrency, a first successful one in this industry. So if you want to kill an industry, let's start killing its leader first.

Quote
That said, do you think BTC will still survive after an encryption/cryptography ban comes into effect? Will such a law be approved by the US and other countries? What will be the implications for the development of the crypto/Blockchain industry? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley
I could be wrong but in my opinion, they can not.

They can not ban the Internet, can not ban Tor connection. So will they successfully restrict how people use electricty?

Some countries can do it but having it at global scale is impossible. Fortunately, Bitcoin network is decentralized, globally and it will survive.
2016  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to staking - is this worth it? on: July 04, 2022, 01:45:20 PM
If you have to stake your coins on a third-party service, you don't have control on it. That service can be compromised, bankrupted and will no longer be able to pay staking reward to their users, including you. It's a first and biggest risk.

Another risk is in theory, you will receive higher total coin by staking, and in the end of your staking but will its total value increase or be the same as initial one or worse, will be lower?

Remember, we are in a bear market and price can fall more. Think of such risks before you join staking.
2017  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Kucoin help - Just signed up. on: July 04, 2022, 01:33:37 PM
I just want to buy about £200 worth of each altcoin and hold, I don't want to trade.
Buying many altcoins in bear market and hold? I call it as suicide.

From past bear markets, most of altcoins lose more than 95% to 99% of its value from ATH. Most of them die in bear market and developer teams abandoned their projects in bear markets too.

Historical snapshots from Coinmarketcap shows you that top altcoins can die too. So think of it, and see what altcoins you are considering to buy? Even they are top altcoins, they are not completely safe.
2018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin the most innovative technology on the internet on: July 04, 2022, 01:28:50 PM
For a while, I have been thinking about the world economy, and how the distribution of information and data has been in the last decade where institutions rely on the traditional system. The bank has the power to control the flow of financial information and data
Not your keys, not your coins.

Even stable coins can be frozen in your wallet.

Quote
with Bitcoin and the blockchain, the virtual digital system has changed the way and manner the world financial system operates without injustice to any part of the chain and on a decentralized network.
You should use technical term more carefully. Virtual is a misleading term used by governments or any entity that don't want people get access to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

So please don't bind 'virtual' with either digital currency or cryptocurrency

Quote
So to this point Bitcoin can be said to be the global digital currency because Bitcoin has no restrictions and is not controlled by anyone.
It is not. I am Bitcoin enthusiast and I know Bitcoin is widely accepted on may platforms, has many use cases but to call it as a global digital currency, it is not. Not yet reach to this phase.

2020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is -not- "still in its infancy" on: July 04, 2022, 01:16:18 PM
Bitcoin is more closely akin to a teenager.  Both in years and level of development.  It's not fully mature, but it's certainly no baby.  And I think we risk selling Bitcoin short by comparing it to something so vulnerable.  Bitcoin has survived in the wild for years against determined attackers.  It has time and again proven itself resilient and indomitable.

It's the usage and acceptance of Bitcoin we are trying to refer to as still maturing.  Not the technology itself.
I don't try to define a name-calling for Bitcoin but yours looks good, teenager.

  • The bullish case for Bitcoin
  • In that article, Vijay wrote about Lindy effect that will become bigger with time. That is exactly what we are witnessing and what you raised here.
  • I agreed with you that after 13 years, Bitcoin is no longer in its infancy. From its age (13 yr old) to Lindy effect, it is far from infant time
