1961  Other / Meta / Re: [Merit] Legendary To Newbies Distribution Concern & Problem! on: July 11, 2022, 02:01:06 PM
Lowering some standards doesn't necessarily entail meriting bad posts; rather, it just means that you shouldn't evaluate new posts in the same manner as legendary ones. Various knowledge levels are present.
You did not understand about history of merit system and what I meant.

In the past, very different context
  • There are less merit sources than now and less total monthly smerit allocation for merit sources. Let's check.
  • Rule of supply, as you have more, you distribute more and lowering your standard.
  • As @Welsh mentioned, there are context and conditions, if you don't include them in your analysis, results will be distorted and readers will misunderstand your message (or even you write it not correctly) not correct enough.
    • Example: assume total merit distribution from Legendary members to Newbies members increases 50% in August. Do you conclude that Legendary members suddenly have more love for newbies.
    • It might be or might be not. If total smerit for merit sources increase 50%, that can be a real reason, not increase of love at all.
1962  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why exchangers derivates and futures dont have other then USDT ? on: July 11, 2022, 01:28:40 PM
I'm guessing that Binance went with USDT than with USDC simply because USDT has a lot more liquidity compared to USDC.

Trading volume in the last 24 hrs as per CoinGecko:

^Can't expect this to be super accurate but it's clear that USDT has far more volume.
Direct link to check with Stable coins category on Coingecko

If anyone wants to see a comparison of trading volume growth amongst some stablecoins, let's check

From Coingecko's stats, BUSD from Binance is at third position and is a little bit less than USDC. It is a significant achievement for Binance and BUSD if you know other exchanges mostly don't support BUSD. They want to fight seriously against Binance.

It's very hard to get trading pairs for altcoin/ BUSD on non-Binance exchanges.
1963  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk's Hall of fame on: July 11, 2022, 01:13:27 PM
Recently, the topic of Lauda's termination (Goodbye world!) has been warmed up again that combines with some scam accusation I read, I suddenly remember about ICOEthics

The user was one of the most actively and best scam fighters in the past and has a website. Suddenly, since July 2019, turned to inactively and never come back.

Anyone knows what happened with ICOEthics, please share!

In addition, I think the 3 years unresponsive is enough to put the user into the Bitcointalk's Hall of fame. Obviously I wish that the user is still fine in real life.

1964  Other / Meta / Re: [Merit] Legendary To Newbies Distribution Concern & Problem! on: July 11, 2022, 12:52:48 PM
I have a topic like this in the past, actually 2 years ago.
  • Where receivers received merits from, and meriters sents merits to
  • Personally, I don't expect to see any big change with such things. Even nowadays, it is more easily for lower rank members to rank up with softer behavior to send merit to posts like "like, love, etc.". It is actually kind of issue because more spammers will be able to rank up faster than they should.
  • Generally, the overall distribution of merit between members and member ranks won't change much
  • I stopped making topics about merits when I see people feel overwhelming with it and personally I don't have more time to play with stats.
1965  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Reasons why there's an Increasing Crypto Scam Rate on: July 11, 2022, 09:41:52 AM
One thing you forget to mention
  • Crypto projects are open-source so it reduces work burden on developer team that don't actually want to build up a project but instead just want to steal money from investors
  • Copy source code, fork it and here you go with a new crypto project.
  • In last bull run, I knew crypto projects that can raise millions of dollar solely by attractive websites and white papers. No product at all. I don't know how will those developer team do in bear market?

If you want check Fear and Greed Index, you can use another site which I believe is better than the above.

I also bookmarked Block explorers [blockchair] on my PC. This will make it easier for me to find some of the things I want [check transaction, addresses and recommended fees for bitcoin transactions] and it can prevent me from entering phishing sites. I prefer to use this one over the others.
I loved Blockchair.com a lot but after they upgraded their UI to the current one, I did not use it. I don't know what their product owner thought to build up that version. It is odds to not see full Bitcoin addresses in one transaction. If you want to check what is an address, click on it. It is inconvenient and worse than their older versions.
1967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have a Question About BTC I need an Answers to. on: July 10, 2022, 01:40:04 PM
1. Bitcoin Dominance in Crypto Market Cap
The fundamental reason behind altcoins following Bitcoin is because the price of altcoins is usually measured in Bitcoins. These pioneering crypto assets may be flanked by more than 3,000 competitors, but still account for more than half of the entire crypto asset market cap. This dominance of the crypto market gives Bitcoin a lot of influence and control.
Bitcoin dominance will be reduced with time, with growth of altcoin ecosystems but it won't change a fact that Bitcoin will still be the largest cryptocurrency and a leader of this market.

In each bull run, there are thousand of new altcoins will be created and contribute to whole crypto marketcap. The number of new altcoins created in each bull run will be higher in future bull runs because a general growth and adoption of cryptocurrency.
1968  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The List of Popular and free blockchain bitcoin observers. on: July 10, 2022, 01:35:40 PM

I am not sure you can find other sites that what you can find in above topics.

When you check transaction, address, let's use Tor connection to protect your privacy. Block explorers can collect your IP address.
1969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could become the gold of 21th century? on: July 10, 2022, 01:14:26 PM
I am so sorry if I made you disappointed. I am a Bitcoin believer but I would like to say fiat currencies, CBDCs, precious metals including gold, Bitcoin and altcoins will co-exist on Earth and will be co-used in human societies.

  • The bullish case for Bitcoin
  • It is a good book for you (and everyone) to read in order to become a true Bitcoin believer. In the book, you will see comparison between gold and Bitcoin but you're free to absorb it in your own perspective.

"Why is the algorithm of BTC built in such a way that it drives all other cryptos as it moves up or down?
No algorithm was built for it.

It is very natural correlation between Bitcoin and alternate coins. You should know years ago, altcoins have trading pairs with Bitcoin as their first ones. Before appearance of stable coins, Bitcoin >< altcoins, Bitcoin >< fiat currency, altcoin >< fiat currency.

Nowadays, in crypto market, you have stable coins and altcoins have lot of trading pairs with different stable coins (USDT, USDC, etc.) and pairs between 2 altcoins such as ERC-20 token with Ethereum ETH. The domination and significant effect of Bitcoin is there.

Importantly, Bitcoin is the biggest cryptocurrency in marketcap so it is natural to see it affects and leads the market. Same with stock market, blue-chip stocks lead stock market.

1971  Other / Meta / Re: Where do you post most? on: July 09, 2022, 05:20:09 PM
I don't think that will be very wise, Because as you may have noticed we are in a bear market so the number of new registered users is not the same as it was years ago. Adding further limitations will probably discourage new people from joining the forum
Partially true. Limitations, strict regulations will make bad members leave but if a guest visit here after a search on Google ie. and want to become a good member here, I don't see any restriction set by the forum.

Don't plagiarize, make authentic posts, make contributions, you are fine and get warm welcome.

1974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bear markets are for building on: July 09, 2022, 11:37:30 AM
It is fact and the first time I knew about it is from Vitalik Buterin in bear market 2018. I am sure Vitalik likely is not a first person who said about it.

After each bear market, Bitcoin has more value - yeah value, not price. Price growth is a consequence of value growth. If we talk about altcoins, in bear market you can find truly potential altcoin projects. It is different than in bull market when people are over hyped with quick-rich stories and forget about fundamentals. Many potential in bull market will die in bear market but potential ones in bear market will more hardly to die. Many of them will become rising stars in next bull run.
1975  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: what is elliptic curve multiplication? on: July 09, 2022, 11:24:39 AM
It is better if you use a free version on Github as I shared there. In addition, what you shared is a 1st edition, the 2nd edition is there

Two more topics on Elliptic Curve Cryptography from Bitcointalk members.
1976  Other / Meta / Re: Where do you post most? on: July 09, 2022, 06:45:28 AM
I don't think that would be a smart move as all those active in altcoin signature campaigns would just find some other board to spam so I say let them fill their signature quotas there. It's not like we don't have enough signature spam in other parts of the forum already.
theymos saw this point, perhaps and decided to implement bump scores in a few boards initially but still being opened to expand it to more boards if necessary.

A few months before and after the merit system kick-off, there were debates that if spam endemic can not be handled, all signature should be disabled. So far, it does not happen as merit system works and later gets support from bump score changes.

Rules for Serious Discussion and Ivory Tower
Quote
- No advertising of any kind.
 - Signatures are not displayed.

Two new no-signature boards
- Serious discussion. No limit on topic, but moderation of on-topicness and general sanity will be extra harsh. No advertising of any kind. Signatures are not displayed.

Ideas for improving post quality?
What are everyone's ideas for improving post quality?

I have mostly ruled out:

 - Removing signatures or sig ads globally.
 - Requiring payment to wear sig ads.
 - Banning account sales.

Theymos on next April fool: If you have 50% of your posts in altcoin+bitcoin+ bounties.. you are kicked  ?? Shocked
No member will be kicked out of the forum because of posting in any board, if posts are not scam or plagiarism.

If theymos does anything seriously, it should be turn off all signature in Altcoin boards (Discussion/ Speculation sub board ie.). That is enough to stop bounty hunters to spam there. However, I still see it won't happen after the launch of bump scores years ago.
1979  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tips for newbie to long-term investing on: July 09, 2022, 03:51:51 AM
Put what you can afford to invest. You done your best so far, because many DCA strategies that most people do stop in the middle of the road because of unstable monthly income.
Don't invest more than what you can afford to lose it all. It is meaningful applicable for all investment strategies, not only for Dollar Cost Averaging.

Quote
Because the DCA concept will not only focus on bear markets, each month must have a budget to allocate.
It's not a must. You should maintain your DCA investment regularly but you don't have to do it exactly on weekly, monthly or quarterly basis as you plan initially. You should prioritize more important things in your life. When you have spare money, you can DCA. If you manage to do it regularly, it is good. Else, it does not mean you can not do DCA.

In my opinion, DCA on monthly or quarterly basis is good enough for your capital allocation and emotional control. If you do it on weekly basis, it is like you are trading and your emotion will be affected by the market.
1980  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did I just messed up? on: July 09, 2022, 03:22:27 AM
after opening it gave me recovery seed
Did you write down your recovery seed as a backup for that wallet?

Quote
and it automatically downloads .json file to my PC, this is the problem, I never want to copy or download anything crypto wallet to my PC because I believe writing down my recovery seed is a lot safer but now I got a JSON file
You can have different backup of a same wallet in different formats. For example, with Myetherwallet, you can have different formats for backup as well as access your wallet: Keystore file, Mnemonic seed phrase, Private key and more.

One of most important things in crypto are
  • Learn how to and practice to back up your wallet
  • Test that backup's utility (sometimes you will make a unusable backup by typos when writing down seed phrase, etc.
  • If you can use your backup to import that wallet (same as when you need to recover it) successfully, you can use it to store your coin
  • If you follow these steps, you will never feel panic that you lose access to your wallet by forgetting password, don't have usable backup
