1721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dip, Dipper, Dippest on: August 28, 2022, 10:11:26 AM
On Twitter this user - Richard Heart, tweeted "Pray that #Bitcoin doesn't hit $11,000.
For me, I pray to see Bitcoin at $11,000 or even $13,000. I will be able to accumulate more Bitcoin and receive more satoshis from my salary.

I know if there are deeper falls, there are more victims who over leveraged or over gambled. However, it is their faults and don't blame their faults on the market. Even if there are bull runs, there are still gamblers who will die by gambling (shorting with high leverages).
1722  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How will you handle this case on: August 28, 2022, 10:05:50 AM
I don't know how to handle this case, I have two junior brothers in my small town who lives opposite to my house, one help the other to create a trust wallet
The victim is just lazy. With Google, search, and a few minutes of reading, he can create a wallet. It is not too difficult.

Quote
100$ worth of Ethereum was deposited into the wallet
Don't deposit money to a wallet that you don't create it offline, by yourself. If you share or leak the wallet seeds to anywhere, anyone, you should abandon it. Create a new wallet and deposit money to a new one.

Quote
two days later the fund was moved out to am unknown address, after asking few questions from the wallet owner I found out that the other guy has access to the wallet too, I believe he did the dirty trick because he never warned the wallet owner to never share his recovery seed with anyone
Can't say. Naively and easily, you can say the friend is the scammer but no proof to support that. Because the victim can do other stupid things that leak private keys later. Anyway, $100 is a cheap learning fee fortunately.
1723  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A rooted phone for a crypto user safe ? on: August 28, 2022, 09:52:16 AM
Avoid to use cracked softwares, rooted devices if you want to be safe completely.

If you buy an used (second-hand) phone from official stores, it should be tested and you will be able to buy a good one (not rooted). Of course by this you still depends on the checking of that store.

I don't say you must buy a new phone to be safe because I know each person has different budget.

1726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin versus Banks on: August 28, 2022, 05:27:38 AM
  • Centralized and decentralized
  • Censorship and non-censorship
  • Rely on banks or Be your own bank (with your keys)[/i]
Above are very basic differences between Banks and Bitcoin. Also remember some centralized platforms even don't actually give you services with which you actually buy and hold Bitcoin but many people think they spend money to buy real Bitcoin.
1727  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Trading Platform on: August 28, 2022, 05:14:47 AM
Just holding
You are an investor and hold Bitcoin as an asset for your investment portfolio.

You don't actually trade but you can check and choose good platforms (security, daily trading volume, taker/ maker fee, withdrawal fee and reputation) for later use when you want to sell your Bitcoin to take profit.

Quote
My plan is just to keep everything (I'd only buy BITC) on that same wallet.  Would there be any reason to split them up and put them on more than one wallet?
Two basic rules
  • Use non custodial wallets. You did it already
  • Never store all your money, exclusively Bitcoin, in a single wallet. Whatever that wallet is (your non custodial or custodial wallet on exchange), split and store it in different wallets
1728  Other / Meta / Re: Additional security measures to keep account secure on: August 27, 2022, 11:53:28 AM
2FA should be more than enough for an extra security measure.
2FA is helpful but it is never a silver bullet.

Quote
Even if someone steals your password or finds a way to break into your account, 2FA (one time password) on your account protects you against such attacks. In case you lose your password, you can still reset it by entering a valid email and a 2FA code.
Depends on how you install (where) your 2FA app, where you save your 2FA backup code and same for email password, email 2FA.

If you log in all accounts on same device, store backup, install 2FA application on the same device as well, its usefulness decreases a lot.
1729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto and Bitcoin began to be known by the rural community on: August 27, 2022, 11:36:08 AM
And even most people here don't want to know about Crypto and Bitcoin because they already consider it as something that is completely unimportant to them.
Things must happen naturally. Just like education, when you force someone to learn, pay course fee for them, most of them don't have interest to learn and even if they have to go to class, join online courses, they don't actually learn proactively. It's not effective, waste of money and time.

Quote
Hopefully in the future there will be more people who want to learn Crypto and Bitcoin here because I never tell about Crypto and Bitcoin to people around me.
The awareness and adoption of Bitcoin increases with each halving and consequent bull run.

The increasing adoption occurs by proactively activities (education, social media seeding, etc.) and natural activities that you can not stop.
1730  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how bitcointalk forum operates on: August 27, 2022, 11:27:51 AM
In fact, it is very easy, in a few minutes, to search this forum and find everything you are interested in.
Where are these users from?

Quote
I also don't understand why we have so many similar topics in this section of the forum.
Rarely it is real question from real newbies. Mostly it is not from newbies, just alts.

Quote
OP, you got the answers you were looking for, so I suggest you lock the topic.
1731  Other / Meta / Re: Additional security measures to keep account secure on: August 27, 2022, 11:12:44 AM
There should be option for high rank members to activate email verification. From time to time, when the member logs in using the username and password, it should send an code to the email to be entered on bitcointalk for login. While login, there should be option to trust the device for some days so that it does not affect user experience.
Imagine if they let their accounts hacked, they would easily let their emails hacked as well. The main causal reason is they are very careless when surfing on the Internet, on social media, via messenger applications, emails, and so on.

So adding the email verification does not make much sense.

Quote
Same way, other security features can also be implemented
There has been many request for 2FA but it won't be implemented in SMF forum (this one). It can be done in the new forum software (Epochtalk) but that new software has yet been completed.
1732  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to Overcome a Bear Market in Cryptocurrency on: August 27, 2022, 06:32:10 AM
If you already invested and if you used your own money for that investment, the easiest way to overcome a bear market are  Kiss
  • Withdraw your Bitcoin to your wallet (non-custodial)
  • Forget about it in next 2 years
  • Prerequisites: your own money; no pressure to sell your coins for daily expenses; do research and know how long past bear markets usually last

With altcoins, except Ethereum and BNB, I don't recommend to hold any altcoin in bear market.
1733  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can btt email account be changed on: August 26, 2022, 11:12:24 AM
Then you should sign a Bitcoin message and stake it on the forum. It is an ownership proof and later you might need it to recover your account.

This practice forces you to use a non custodial wallet that is good too.
1734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: mine a Bitcoin or buy a bitcoin? on: August 26, 2022, 11:04:36 AM
In general, there are two ways to acquire bitcoins: buying them with real money or "mining" them.
If you are not whales, buying Bitcoin directly and hodl it, wait for profit is better than mining it.

Because if you want to mine it with ASICs, you must buy those devices, find electricity sources should be cheap, locations for your farms, etc. There will be more things for operations, maintenance, etc. It requires big initial capital, time to operate and you must wait months to get your initial capital back. That is not good for small miners.

When you need money instantly, you can not sell your ASICs and other devices instantly to get money. If you buy and have Bitcoin, you can sell it instantly.

Buying and holding Bitcoin give you more flexibility.
1735  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy Tips: Don't send round amount on: August 25, 2022, 11:14:08 AM
What is it really about (Change Address)?
And why does it matter as per issues of security and privacy?
What is the "Change" address on bitcoin wallet ? read to know !

It starts with choosing a good wallet to use. A good wallet is non custodial that gives you private key and full control of keys and coins as well as Coin Control feature. With Coin control feature, you will be able to use Change address or not but the default setting should be "Yes".

Some platforms allow you to use Change address too but they provide you non custodial wallet.
1736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippine universities to offer Bitcoin courses in partnership with Binance on: August 25, 2022, 10:52:49 AM
It is part of achievements from the global trip of Changpeng Zao months ago, around the collapse of Terra in May. Philippines is one of destinations in his global business trip.

Binance knows that bear market is very good opportunity for them to expand their customer population and build up reputation. When weaker exchanges and competitors have troubles, they will take advantage of it to grow more, with less competition and less spent budget for the business deals.

Spending money for education is never wrong.
1737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy Tips: Don't send round amount on: August 25, 2022, 10:21:47 AM
Blockchair has an option to check whether transaction privacy is good or bad.
Not only Blockchair.com explorer has that feature, others have, such as blockstream.info.

When you check 'your' transaction privacy, use Tor. If you don't use Tor, you self-break your transaction privacy.

Quote
And from that, I learned that sending round amount decrease the privacy of a tx, at least make it almost confirmed and identifiable that round amount is the amount which has been sent to (recipient) and the rest is change address. It makes sense.
Yes it makes sense. In addition, always use change address is another good advice.

However, if you don't use round amount but later consolidate leftovers into one transaction, it is a bad practice.
1738  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign to improve posting quality for local boards on: August 24, 2022, 09:08:22 AM
Most likely yes but we will try to select good translators and avoid bounty spammers for cases where the intention is only a quick Merit grab.
And I can tell one thing already ahead: I won't give out Merit to Bounty spammers just applying here for a quick Merit grab. Such people will be denied.
Very good to know that your team have detailed criteria to manage it appropriately. It will boost local boards with high quality resources and better engagement in educational discussions.

Quote
We have seen this from other topics, it's not a problem limited to our campaign.
Sure. It happens everywhere and merit is for good contribution and good quality posts. If they make good things, they deserve to receive merit.
1739  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Education about Bitcoin at Bitcointalk on: August 24, 2022, 05:31:32 AM
Many educational topics about Bitcoin in [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread.

There is a section for Bitcoin and if you want to learn more (altcoins, security, forum issues), there are topics about that in the compilation as well.
1740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anything new in terms of recovery of wallets on: August 24, 2022, 02:19:21 AM
password and username
Password for your wallet file is fine. It will help you to get access to that wallet and then private keys.

However, I would like to ask
  • What is username?
  • Do you imply about the file name of your wallet file?

If what you have is a wallet file and corresponding password to unlock that file, you will be able to access all private keys in that wallet.

If you lost your wallet password, you can't access private key. Then you will need private keys (from your backups) to import that wallet and use it again.
