261  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Join Bitcoin Forum COLLECTIBLES EXCLUSIVE ARTWORK PROJECT with Crypto Artist 1Dq on: April 24, 2024, 08:07:27 AM
Just hopping back into this thread and WOW what a transformation from first post to
this!

Quote
Ob the Bitcoin ticker on top, which number should be showing? Maybe the all time high, or the actual number as I finish the piece?

I think the number you finish this on is the most fitting!

Quote
Maybe the most fun is which part of our forum the monitor would show?

I think it would be interesting to see the first page of this thread or a version of it.

Quote
I was thinking of again using real gold to paint a couple of details, like the coin in Bitcollector's hand, what do you think?

Absolutely, this essentially is the focal point of the piece.

Quote
And if the shirt can become a statement as well, and ideas?

maybe just the BTC symbol as a pattern?
262  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [LIVE] 🌍🌎🌏 Community group participation - Bitcoin Colouring Book - CLOSED on: April 24, 2024, 07:42:55 AM
I have finally completed my page.
Not sure what comes next... Huh

Excellent news mj!

Its remarkable that we got to this point with the book travelling so far and through
so many "trains, planes and automobiles" without getting lost or seriously damaged.

Well done to all of you 👍

My two options to decide its next journey are:

1.) Raffle it among the participants only
* in order to make it a level playing field everyone gets 1 ticket
** mj you will have to incur the cost of final postage

2.) Auction it to the wider BCT community
* funds generated to be divided out among the contributors to cover postage costs incurred
** mj you will have to incur the cost of final postage

Whoever wins the book takes full ownership and can share the images as they want,
sell it later or just HODL it.

263  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: April 23, 2024, 01:11:26 PM
Yea it will be interesting to see if the Dolphins can make it to the finals let alone the top 4.
I'm also interested in both the Broncos and Wests Tigers this season.

This weekend is Round 15 of 18 in the United Rugby Championship.

Table toppers Leinster are again away this round to the Stormers, I'm guessing they
will put out the B teams because of their Semi final of the European Champions Cup
is next weekend. They have sold out our national sports arena with over 80,000 capacity.

The 8, 9, 10 and 11 positions in the table are really competitive now to reach it
to the URC finals, Edinburgh, Connacht, Ulster and Lions are all on 39 points.
264  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 23, 2024, 12:57:05 PM

Congratulations to Jan-Lennard Struff. 15 years as a professional tennis player and now he has finally won a tournament for the first time. Struff coped better with the weather at this tournament than many of his opponents. It remains to be seen whether this was an one-off event or whether the knot has now burst.

Brilliant win by Struff. Its interesting to see these older players still able to win.  It just
goes to prove many aspects of the tennis.

I find it remarkable that someone can maintain the motivation for so long. And that he keeps financially getting supported.

I havent thought about something like that until this prompted me to check
out his status and he has only been in 3 finals and only 1 title, prize money $500k.

It is amazing but I think there was a discussion a few years ago about the topic
of how all players are financially able to be on tour when there are only so few able
to reach the finals and take massive prize money.

The vast majority of players must be struggling to remain on tour financially.
265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if they centralized Bitcoin? on: April 22, 2024, 08:27:38 PM
First, Core devs so far rejected all the proposed changes that would lead to even small centralization. Does this mean that this will continue in the future? We can't predict what Core devs will be in 100 years from now, but in the observable near future it's safe to assume that they will keep maintaining decentralization.

Next, extreme centralization will simply quickly kill Bitcoin. Many banks around the world already offer instant zero fee transactions without bank maintenance charges and offer cashback on top of it. How can even a highly centralized Bitcoin compete against that? And if Bitcoin will try to keep being the libertarian money, it will suffer the fate of Liberty Reserve.

Of course, disregarding and ditching one of Bitcoins key features would not end well.

I'm sure everyone has heard the phrase "killing the Goose who lays the Golden eggs"*
making Bitcoin centralised would kill Bitcoin. Having a global network of groups and
independent people mining and hosting nodes gives Bitcoin its security, anyone can
decide to do this if they want, development is carried out through consensus, anyone
can propose a change or upgrade to the network.

all these go with centralisation so why would everyone involved "kill the Goose that lays
the Golden eggs"?

266  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Daily FUD Thread: Michael Saylor dumps his MSTR shares on: April 22, 2024, 06:24:38 PM
It doesn't matter who you are, if your not diversified into other sectors your just and idiot.

All in on one thing is all in on ignorance.

Saylor is no idiot.

We have had many discussions about diversification and what would be a companion
with Bitcoin.

I would say of all people Michael Saylor would have only Bitcoin in his basket purely
based on what he has preached over the last couple of years there isnt anything
else worth having.

The article from the OP from 19th April mentions he has Class B and Class shares
from 2014 and these are the ones he wants to sell quickly so that more than likely
he can buy more Bitcoin!

Quote
Saylor is the largest MicroStrategy shareholder, with Class B holdings worth about $2.3 billion.
At the end of 2023, Saylor owned another 400,000 Class A shares due to an option he received
in 2014. Those are the shares he’s selling with speed.
267  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 22, 2024, 06:39:41 AM
He definitely has a chance but we will have to wait and see how each player finishes at
the Madrid tournament to see how close it will be for the Rome tournament. There is one thing
for sure though, Sinner wont be letting the possibility of becoming number 1 take over his emotions.

Qualifying in both the mens and womens is underway at Madrid.

Yesterdays final over at Barcelona did end up being  Tsitsipas v Ruud with the Greek
unable beat Ruud this time out, it was over in 2 sets so that price of 2.35 on Ruud after
he was broken in the first set was massive
268  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Daily FUD Thread: Michael Saylor dumps his MSTR shares on: April 21, 2024, 06:43:21 PM
FUD alright.

I havent read anywhere that Saylor dumped Bitcoin so whats the big deal? There is no
market reaction to this news yet.

Anyone who owns Bitcoin regardless of the quantity has the option to sell or HODL.

The way some people think they believe once a Whale like Saylor buys Bitcoin they shouldnt
be permitted to sell it ever again. Nobody has the right to create such laws.

If those people are afraid of what such an action would do to the markets, just remember
that Bitcoin is bigger than any one person or entity, and any reaction in the markets
would be very temporary.
269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 21, 2024, 02:32:51 PM
So, two finals today I'd advise you to focus on:

Ruud v Tsitsipas in Barcelona

These guys have just recently met in another final (in Monte-Carlo) where the Greek won the title. Stefanos is on fire now and Ruud's lack of confidence will only amplify his performance.

This has already started and Tsitsipas has broken Ruud, Ruud's price now is 2.35, Might
be worth a bet on him. Ruud isnt going away.

Brilliant win by Struff. Its interesting to see these older players still able to win.  It just
goes to prove many aspects of the tennis.

Another result in - A tournament win by Fucsovics over Navonne at the Bucharest open,
another older player able to beat the younger players to win that tournament
270  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are you increasing your bitcoin investments because of today halving ? on: April 21, 2024, 01:56:07 AM
I think I can apeak for ma y people when I say I have been actively increasing my Bitcoin
holdings since I started.

I can also say that I wont be stopping just because the halving has happened, any time
I get some extra FIAT I buy and if it happens during a dip its an added bonus.

How long do I plan to HODL? definitely past the next halving, the next halving is
not my exit point.
271  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: April 21, 2024, 12:04:05 AM
And just like that the Broncos are up to 6th with a great win!

Yea Dolphins are going well but that was the case last year, they ended up sliding down
the ladder and at the end of the season they were out of the top 8.

My parlay in the United Championship actually came off! I deliberately left out the
Bulls v Munster fixture thinking it was going to be a difficult one to call and
Munster won away to the Bulls.

The separate bet on Leinster failed miserably. Final score: Lions 44 - 12 Leinster
272  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 20, 2024, 02:30:36 PM
Home tennis player Alexander Zverev lost in straight sets to Chile's Cristian Garin, of course this is a disappointing result because he is the first seed in ATP Munich.

WTA Stuttgart, Iga Swiatek has the opportunity to win her third title in this tournament after making it to the semifinals and she will face Elena Rybakina, not so sure that Swiatek will face obstacles to get to the final because Rybakina, although impressive this year, had to lose two sets to get to the semifinals so her performance wasn't very good here and she said it was quite difficult because the ball was slow on this surface.
The surprising thing was Aryna Sabalenka who lost to Marketa Vondrousova, so far Sabalenka has not had good results apart from AO, and also Coco Gauff lost to Marta Kostyuk, if Swiatek makes it to the final it looks like she will face an easier opponent later.

This was a very unexpected result from the match of Zverev. And what was more surprising was that him being unable to even take one set. This type of performance was unexpected for him, especially in the quarterfinals of the competition. Garin should not be able to win against Fritz in the semifinals but we'll see what happens.

Swiatek vs Rybakina
This is definitely going to be very competitive. Yes I think in the end it is going to be a win for Swiatek but we have seen what her opponent is capable of. She is definitely capable of giving a good fight for the win. And I actually disagree, I do not think it is going to be a walk in the park for Swiatek

Sabalenka losing was a little surprising. But not so surprised that it was unbelievable or something. It could happen. I guess it was more unexpected than surprising. Everyone expected her to win. But the comeback from her opponent was actually really good.

Its one set each over at Stuttgart and on serve in the 3 rd set! While looking at the score
I notice Raducanu made it to the quarter final, I believe now that ahe has been doing
well for the last few weeks, thats promising.

Barcelona - Ruud through to the final already beating Etcheverry in 2 sets. Tsitsipas
v Lakovic has just started.

Munich - final is Struff v Fritz. Struff beat Rune in two sets, 6-2 and 6-0. Rune hasnt been
in top form lately. I'll bet he was favourite to beat Struff?
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This will be my first BTC halving on: April 20, 2024, 07:19:33 AM
I just got into Bitcoin after the 2nd halving and was able to experience the the big pump up
to approximately $20,000 at the end of 2017 start of 2018. The third halving was just as
exciting in 2020 with the following pump up to approximately $65,000.

So there is a trend there which we will experience from here on. For me its not the halving
itself its the excitement of the bull run after the event.

I remember the last halving, on the day norhing happened in the markets, it took a week
ot two IIRC for the bull run to get going, it could be similar this year too.
274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 19, 2024, 06:53:25 PM
Just about!

TBH I havent bet on Tsitsipas in the last two tournaments, he is going good but I always
have the feeling when watching him play that he is going to be beaten. Fils v Lajovic is
on now so he will play either as mentioned above so I would expect a tougher day out
tomorrow for Tsitsi.

Ruud is through to the semi too, another player I wouldnt be too confident about really.
He will play Etcheverry.
275  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 19, 2024, 09:42:49 AM
I'll watch that later on. We here are big fans of Naomi, she has been a superstar and has
a "good head on her shoulders" as we say here so she
will do well in life regardless of
her Tennis career but yea the better she does in Tennis the better off she will do altogether.

Its quarter final time in Barcelona and its looking more and more like a Ruud v Tsitsipas
final. Tsitsipas is looking really confident in Barcelona and plays Diaz Acosta today, Ruud plays
Arnaldi.
276  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Resurrection Of ISIS on: April 18, 2024, 10:39:30 PM
Its funny how this is not in the mainstream news bulletins.

I think it will be almost impossible to stop any attacks fully.
The guerilla  type warfare they
engage in is very difficult to defeat. Israel for example dont know this yet.

Also I have something to say about the religious nature of all this, its ridiculous that we are
at odds as a species with each other based of our claims that every god we have is the one
true god and we are willing to kill each other over this.
277  Economy / Speculation / Countdown to 840,000 on: April 18, 2024, 06:07:07 PM
The 4th Bitcoin halving is happening on block number 840,000 and we are currently
on 839813, thats only 187 blocks to go in about 30 hours....which also means its
happening on a Friday so there may not be any action happening over the weekend.

I remember remarking at some point that there was about 6 months to go, those 6 months
have really gone fast.

This will be that start of the effects of the halving and normally we see a big bull run
from here on for about 12 months.

What do yall see happening next week, I think we will get a dump from the effects of
"buy the hype, sell the news"
278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: April 18, 2024, 08:18:48 AM
Its an interesting ladder after 6 rounds. There are a few standouts there too, Rabbitohs stuck on the
bottom spot, Panthers not in top spot.

At this stage last year the two grand finalists had already occupied top spot, Broncos and Panthers!

I'm waiting for a few more rounds to see  how things pan out.

United Rugby Championship

Round 14 of 18 this weekend

As I mentioned earlier all the home teams are favourites so I think I'll do a parley on 6 @ 1.63:

Ulster v Cardiff
Glasgow Warriors v The Sharks
Bennetton Treviso v Dragons
Stormers v Ospreys
Edinburgh v Scarlets
Connacht v Zebre

I'll do a separate one on Leinster to beat the Lions on their home pitch @ 2.22. Leinster are going to play
a B team because of their big Semi final in the European Championship.

279  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Blockchain as a Geopolitical Tool: The US-Russia Tech Rivalry Solana & Ethereum on: April 17, 2024, 09:37:21 PM

How do you perceive the role of blockchain technology in global geopolitics?

Could the success of blockchain projects like Solana be considered a form of soft power exerted by the US?

The only significant difference between Bitcoin and the other top-10 currencies, from the standpoint of the average consumer, is the price. All of these products do exactly the same thing. If there are technical difference between Bitcoin and Solana, for instance, they are not visible in any way to almost all of the users of these products.

This is unlike, say, electric car technology, wherein there are cars with greater range, a cheaper price, more performance, faster charging, and longer lifespan--and much more.

Cryptocurrencies have very limited practical use and are simply investment instruments for nearly all of their users.

As such, I would say there's no geopolitical significance to these products at all.

would love to read on what the community has to say, does Blockchain/Crypto have use cases outside of simply being an investment instrument?

No is my answer.
But I'm not including Bitcoin in that Blockchain/Crypto category in this case because
we all know the benefits Bitcoin provides.

In terms of geopolitical tools used by the US and Russia with Solana and Ethereum,
I dont care because I dont have either. Ethereum is centralised and Solana probably is
too, that alone goes against Bitcoin. So yea if they are going to be used as Geopolitical
tools, let them have them.
280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 17, 2024, 05:47:22 PM
The odds on De Minaur are growing, I just took him to win @2.15. He was the bookie favorite yesterday.

Nadal looked really good against Cobolli, if he's healthy it will be a hard match for De Minaur.
Still, Nadal is just coming back to tennis and the odds on him losing are too good not to take.

Did anyone watch him play? Rublev said he's in great form but hard to tell from the results alone.

I saw him play the first set today, really closely fought, he looked unfit TBH, he was panting
alot already in the 3rd game while de Minaur looked fresh. The second set was a wash out,
I guess he was wrecked after the first set alone.

When I first saw him yesterday against Cobolli I commented that he looked "chunkier" than
before. In the end after my post above I did a small straight win on de Minaur, I
figured it was too soon to expect Nadal to win after being off for so long and de Minaur
actually playing well so far this season.
