1261  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal for AI Integration with BitcoinTalk forum on: April 30, 2023, 09:49:47 PM
I would love to hear your thoughts on this proposal and any ideas you may have for its implementation.
My teachers, I think I will really love things to be done the same old way. The search option is here for us to use and navigate around the forum, and things are being done manually just as they are being done. I think this forum is respected the way it is today because of the way things are being done manually by individuals opinions; everyone shares ideas; problems are being solved from different users experiences and ideas on every particular matter; no machine or AI is involved in gathering information to conclude what is what.

In my opinion, I think the forum is just better off the way it is. There are lots of members here to help show newbies around and correct them if errors are being made. Spam is not moderated, but it is also manually detected with solid proof by members who are here.

I'm with you on this. I dont think we need AI on the forum. Why do some people wany AI
attached to everything. If it keeps going the way they want?

Leave the forum as it is, is it really that difficult to spend a little time searching the forum,
interacting with it?

I think there will be a lot of people in the future who wont be able to do as much for
themselves as can be done now.

There is no getting around it, if you dont have a vaccine you are not getting into
the country so that rules out Djokovic. I cant see him at this stage getting a vaccine
in order to play the US Open but his stance on the vaccine has really disrupted his
career over the last 3 years.

I wonder if he will look back in a few years and wonder if he had done things differently
would he have clocked up many more wins, a few more GS's, a lot more prize money
and retaining the number 1 slot for longer?
1263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The total limit of bitcoin on: April 30, 2023, 07:52:11 AM
No

The limitation of Bitcoin to 21,000,000 is one of its strongest features. It is different
to FIAT currency in that miners or anyone else cannot decide to "print" more Bitcoin just
because they want another 100.

This is one of the features which gives Bitcoin its value, it is not an inflationary currency.

Do you think there would be so much interest in Bitcoin if its supply could be easily manipulated
and the total quantity changed so easily, then it really would be funny internet Monopoly money,
worth nothing.

FIAT - really easy to print more as desired

GOLD - unknown limit to its supply

Usage of technology is appreciated, but replacing the technology with human beings is not that good. In my opinion human beings make mistakes and the decision of the player to challenge and get the correct result makes the game interesting. It also shows how high is the player and his concentration. Having technology instead will reduce errors and helps to avoid disappointment in match results, as we were able to see more matches turning in favour of the opponent after a wrong decision from referee.

But the big question is - has a match ever been wrongly decided on a wrong call
by a line judge? I doubt it, especially in the modern era.

TBH I think its nonsense, Its probably about cost saving in the end. The idea of it
speeding up the game is also nonsense, there are other areas they could target
to speed it up, take away the warm up after the coin toss for example.

We have been warned about the implications of introducing AI, its going to
replace peoples jobs, and really, do we actually need it? line judges are fairly accurate.

Will top executive ATP positions be replaced by AI, surely their decisions can be made
by machine? of course that wont happen first, its the lower levels of the ATP organisation
to be affected first.
1265  Other / Off-topic / Re: Working over 20 years still poor on: April 29, 2023, 05:55:16 PM
The same work some do for 5 years and make it in life, other may do it for over 20 years and still feed from hand to mouth. Can we conclude that such are individual destiny?

I’ve found that when it comes to not being poor it is mostly how a person handles their money, not how much they make that determines their net worth. If you’re the type of person that needs new cars and expensive shoes, you’ll probably be broke your entire life no matter how much you make. If you stay away from debt and don’t waste money on things you don’t need, you’ll probably end up quite well off financially. However, most people today don’t know how to live within their means.

That can be the case. I can attest to that thinking, I'm working for over 30 years
and have little to show for them.

We are constantly reminded of how we need the latest thing which are all aimed
at taking our money. If we manage to live within our means there is a very good
chance we can survive comfortably on our earnings.

Financial education is also important but unfortunately not everyone gets that
education until like me its already well into a working life.

The West's Tigers won 12 - 8 AND I MISSED IT!

OMG - what a messed up season this has proven to be this year! My two bets are
totally lost, Titans beating the Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers beating the Panthers.

Looking at the ladder and looking at the season so far its really open, no one team are
absolutely definitively booking their place in the finals, different to last year really.

Union Heineken Cup

First semi final took place today and as I suspected and hoped and backed Leinster
overcame Toulouse 44-21. There was talk before the game that it could have been closer
due to some key players for Leinster out with injury. This result shows the depth of talent in
the squad.
1267  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 29, 2023, 08:07:07 AM
... Matteo Arnaldi.
...

This Italian guy is performing really well, and after Madrid he will be for sure in top 100.
I should admit, against Ruud it was not easy at all (odd was at @5.00) but in the end he has been able to win...
Now against Munar... he has already played against the Spaniard and he has a win! Let's see the match.

Meanwhile another Italian player, Berrettini, will be not present in Internazionali of Roma Sad
probably this is his worst year of the entire career Sad

Yes its such a disappointing year for Berrettini, he has such great potential but
just cannot get back playing with consistency and without injury. Such a pity.

Bitbollo did you have Arnaldi backed at 5.0? great odds for a winner.

While we are talking about Italian players I had a bet on Musetti yesterday to beat
Hanfmann which didnt happen. Thats a disappointment for him to go out of the tournament
so early in the round of 64.

I see where you were going with a bet on the Knights v the Eels but unfortunately the Eels
showed up and hammered the knights. I stayed away from that one and was actually thinking
of betting against the Rabbitohs, luckily I refrained, the Rabbitohs did a big job on the Broncos.

I'm going with the Sea Eagles against the Titans at 1.52 and a -18.5 handicap on the Panthers,
I know, I know - I did say before I wouldnt to it again but its the only way to get a bit of value out
of the Panthers, odds are 2.12
1270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What went wrong with bitcoin! Reply on: April 28, 2023, 06:27:42 AM
Before introducing Bitcoin to someone, it's important to explain its uses, such as its ability to facilitate borderless transactions without the need for a third party. You should also explain how Bitcoin works and its volatility, including possible losses and how the price fluctuates. When discussing the topic of "pump and dump," it's important to explain the reasons behind it.

It's also important to emphasize that Bitcoin always exists as a set quantity. For example, if you buy 1 Bitcoin, it will always exist as 1 Bitcoin, but its value will fluctuate. It's crucial to make them understand that no one controls the price of Bitcoin - it's all about supply and demand.

By explaining these concepts to them, they will be less likely to regret their decision later or ask questions about a bear market.

For me this is essential, knowing what Bitcoin can offer me and secondary to that
is the investment aspect.

I would snobbishly only consider a person a true Bitcoiner when they have an interest
in Bitcoin other than its ROI or they have a long term outlook. I dont consider anyone
with a "get rich quick" or only interested in Bitcoins market value to be Bitcoiners.

The OP has only focussed on "The price" and "The market" and "Investment", Bitcoin has
a lot more to offer, its just a pity that it seems they are overlooked even when explaining
Bitcoin.

In case some of you missed this:

Quote
Canada's Leylah Fernandez suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss to 15-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the first round of the Madrid Open on Wednesday. The Russian teen, ranked 194th in the world, needed just an hour and 16 minutes to upset the 49th-ranked Fernandez.

Spectacular performance from a Russian teen. Quite an easy win against a GS runner-up! Definitely future TOP10 material!  Roll Eyes

Another talented teen Brenda Fruhvirtova lost to Kalinskaya in 3 sets: 6:2, 4:6, 4:6.

Impressive win!
And it seems she is continuing the winning strike since she has won also against Beatriz
Haddad Maia (number 14 WTA/13 on Madrid seed).

The Russian teen is definitely a player to follow... hoping that she will be able to confirm itself in the next few years... and to cope to a lot of pressure Roll Eyes

Yeah I watched the match: the Brazilian looked completely helpless. And note that Mirra wasn't using defensive play most juniors are trying to use against WTA stars in their first matches on tour. Instead she was playing aggressively, lots of winners and Haddad Maia actually struggled to return her serve. In fact, this is one of the best performances by a player so young ever. She is in R3 of 1000 series Masters tournament! At 15yo!  Cool

In R3 she is going to face Linette or Vondrousova and from what I've seen so far she can beat either of them two.

Thats an unbelievable result from her again, impressive also to be able to back up that
win over Fernandez and beat a strong player as Haddad Maia. Definitely at this stage
one to watch and for next round should be interesting to see how she goes against Linette.

On the mens side there was a bit of an upset today with the Italian Vavassori beating
Murray, that would have been a great bet to take on Vavassori I'd say.

I'd say Murray is very close to retiring or waiting for the Grass season.

Union European Champions Cup Rugby

This weekend we have the Semi-Finals of the Heineken Champions Cup. Its possible
there could be an all French final although I think the chances are slim.

I am picking the two home sides Leinster and La Rochelle and I will probably put a
bet on Leinster for the title before the game at the weekend.

League NRL

First game of R9, Sharks devour the Cowboys 44-6, I dont get it, there was literally
no contest, Cowboys scored 1 converted try on the 34th minute. I missed it altogether
and I wonder what the odds were on the Sharks??

I think I have heard her being mentioned somewhere before. Definitely one to
watch for the future. As regards the one time GS finalist's Raducanu and Fernandez -
they havent exactly been lighting up the Tennis courts since their US final appearance.
Leylah has had a better doubles results than singles results though.

On the mens side in Madrid, both Gasquet and Wawrinka have come through their matches
easily enough yesterday. Bit of an upset yesterday but not a massive surprise was Schwartzman
being beaten by Grenier, I remember looking at the odds and seeing Diego being favourite
and also knew he was not in great form lately but I didnt bet on the match.
1274  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing Addiction. on: April 26, 2023, 09:58:18 PM
Do you consider that kind of addiction dangerous and not good?
While reading your post, I'm kind of thinking "getting addicted into investing is good because it's like you are preparing for the future if you're investing" right? On the other hand, I'm also thinking that "Is there any addiction that is beneficial to a person?"

Getting addicted into investing is good as long as you aren't affecting somebody's life. Getting addicted into investing will only be good if you aren't a newbie, and you know which assets are good to invest and which are the ones you need to avoid. Investing addiction will only be good if you aren't affected either physically or mentally. Getting addicted into investing will only be good if you aren't preventing yourself from buying things that you need on a daily basis thus, it isn't good for you. Overall, getting addicted into investing has some things that you need to consider in order for it to be beneficial for the investor.

I guess this is the only type of addiction that has benefits to a person? Or not? Cheesy TBH, it's the first time that I've ever heard about this term. Cheesy

Good point LogitechMouse, is there indeed any addiction which is beneficial to us?
Probably not.

Getting addicted to investing contradicts the teaching that we shouldnt invest more
than we can afford to lose.

On the other hand its easy to see how someone could get addicted to Bitcoin investing
when the benefits of Bitcoin itself are examined - it kind of seems like a no-brainer...
so long as it doesnt cause other negative consequences financially
1275  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any Bitcoiners here who are living offgrid? on: April 26, 2023, 01:06:09 PM
Splitting hairs a bit but you are not 'off gird' at least by the conventional US way of thinking about it and describing it.
Here off grid, tends to mean, no internet, no computer, no phone and nothing like BTC, no power except what is 100% critical and not much else. It would be a cash / barter existence. Possibly an pre-paid flip phone for emergencies.

What you seem to be doing seems to be more of a no fixed location thing / nomadic thing. At least from how you seem to be describing it.
Again, different terms from different countries.

Using the nomadic description, I know a couple of people who do that.
Both retired living on pensions and such. Get up whenever they feel like it, drive the camper to wherever they want and then do whatever seems interesting at that point in time.

The seem to enjoy it, but it's not something I could do. My idea of 'roughing it' is a hotel with only basic cable and minimal free breakfast bar.

Neither of them are into crypto, but if they were 20+ years younger (my age) I could see them using BTC. But for now, that would involve trading and buying and using and that would interfere with their whatever / wherever lifestyle.

-Dave

Its probably technically not off grid but its very very close.

My understanding of being off grid is pretty much as you describe as well as being
self sufficient in terms of food but its very difficult to not be connected in some way
or another.

I envy you Jetcash it not easy to live such a lifestyle (offgrid independent) In between I hope where ever you are is safe too.

Acknowledging that you are part of the conventional community even in crypto-currency, but you also must have to acknowledge that mining bitcoin has also grown and become very much sophisticated both in the software and hard ware aspect. Where do one stand using such tools you have with the ever competitive mining system.

Using solar panels and batteries to generate energy is also linking anyone to
conventional society IMO. Off grid could technically mean  travelling back to pre industrial
revolution to shun all technology, then again what is technology? everything we have
used since our existence is technology.

@ Jet Cash - this year I hope to take a big step closer to being partially off grid,
clear my debts and take a step away from politics and banking. I have already
started the process!

Well unfortunately not all top sports people get to choose the time or location of their
retirement and like yourself I fear this will be the case with Nadal. It isnt looking like he
will have much of a clay season to prepare for Roland Garros but really as long as he
is in the tournament he is a dangerous opponent for everyone. By that I mean that
his skill level and experience will still be potent weapons.

I agree also that with every passing week that he isnt playing makes me doubtful
he will be playing in 2024 or certainly 2025.
1277  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 25, 2023, 06:32:12 PM
Djokovic missing Madrid is big news.

And this is a chance for Alcaraz to become number 1 again. Djokovic has only 365 points more.

After Rune won the match in Munich, I am looking forward to seeing him in Madrid. I am also looking forward to see Zverev. I hope he will reache the round of 16. There he will meet Alcaraz and certainly end the tournament. But it would be an opportunity for him to compete with the upcoming number 1.

I think its great not having Djokovic or Nadal playing, it leaves room for the likes
of Sinner, Rune, Alcaraz, Zverev, Rublev and Medvedev to get that little bit further,
and actually everyone else who might have met them in the rounds.

Also its nice to see others who are making names for themselves, Fritz, Lajović
and Musetti for example.

For me there are two to watch tomorrow, Wawrinka plays  Cressy and Gasquet plays
Landaluce, would like to see both veterans come through their matches.
1278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will you do with bitcoin? on: April 25, 2023, 06:24:08 AM
$70k or $80k is a very conservative price, the vast majority of us believe Bitcoin will go far
past those prices.

What I plan to do? I dont have any specific plans other than to HODL. To be able to use
it in the future when it is absolutely needed is peace of mind. Ideally it would be nice to be
in a position to be able to buy items needed directly with Bitcoin rather than having to involve
exchanges and FIAT.

Hopefully that will be something for the future.

Ah I was wondering why there were 2 very late games this round.

I know of ANZAC day but would know the exact details of it. I do know the brutality and
seemingly senseless and massive loss of life in the great war overall, wouldnt you think
it would have served as an example how not to resolve differences?

As an aside I used to watch "The Sullivans" growing up. (set around WWII)

For tuesdays games I'm thinking Roosters and Storm but I'm not sure I'll make those
bets...bith are favourites but have had mixed results so far.
1280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: April 24, 2023, 12:11:14 PM
Djokovic missing Madrid is big news. Its amazing how a simple incident which causes
an injury can compound on top of other things within a season, he missed Indian Wells
because of visa rows and now an injury, his season so far has been disrupted.

I wonder if this is a worrying thing for Djokovic and his career, is this the start of
his final years?

As regards Madrid, the threat of Djokovic has been removed so I'm sure the other
top seeds will fancy their chances even more!

Alcaraz has to be big favourite
