so I will not delete non-spam links to it.
Quoted for emphasis. I've had to delete some of this spam in the past, so be sure to keep things on-topic.

2603  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Community Advocates? on: August 01, 2011, 12:21:27 AM
https://bit-pay.com/  looks pretty cool, especially if you already have an online store and just want to add support for accepting bitcoins... YMMV though, I've never actually used it myself.

Another similar site that you might want merchants to look into (once it's publicly released) is btcinch.com

Additionally, there's bitcoinfeedback.com and the List of honest traders thread.
2605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's a stolen wallet good for? on: July 31, 2011, 11:55:53 PM
Is the old wallet.dat of any use to attacker then? Will it be updated when all blocks are downloaded, or will any further transaction from it simply fail?

Burp's answer implies that it would be updated...
The wallet is updated when it detects new transactions (as in ones that it hasn't seen) to one of the addresses that the wallet has the private key for. By default, the client keeps 100 extra keys, so if you transfer all of the coins from the stolen wallet into a "new" address in the same wallet, the thief will still have access to them. That's why we recommend generating a completely new wallet if you suspect that your's was stolen.
2606  Other / Meta / Re: User kidage is a scammer :( on: July 31, 2011, 06:57:30 PM
Looks like that's the case. We won't ban him, but we can label him as a scammer. However, that will have to wait until Theymos gets back from his weekend vacation.

Always remember:
If you are reputable (as you became in that thread, with high rep users successfully buying from you), you should ALWAYS ask to be paid first, before releasing your product/service, unless someone significantly more reputable than you is buying, then it's their call.
If neither side is SIGNIFICANTLY reputable, then you should use escrow. Even if they are reputable, escrow is still a good idea.

Is this one of those phishing scams so they can take all the stuff from my wallet?
No, the link dishwara provided was a copy of the blockchain made by a trusted developer. However, I'm glad you were being cautious.

It's the remains of when we had a feature to like posts and unlike them. Long story short, it was abused.
2609  Other / Meta / Re: Signature Spamming Is Out of Control on: July 29, 2011, 05:00:14 PM
Complaints about specific signatures can be directed toward theymos. Also, this should be moved to Meta...
2610  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Businesses and Developers, Let's Get Started! on: July 28, 2011, 07:28:59 PM
I also have questions, which I can probably answer on my own with independent study, but which might intrigue someone here and start a discussion or a business and possibly create some jobs.  Here they are:

1. Is it possible to enable someone to take bitcoin from your wallet, but also enable them to relinquish that ability in a way that is apparent to you?  For my "Reading Fee" spec, the ability would be for a specific amount, but the question is also interesting for "a limited amount" and also "all of it".

2. Is it feasible to create transactions that can be reversed by the spender for a specific amount of time?  Wouldn't this serve as a built-in escrow feature?
Two choices:
1) Give the private key for an address that has the coins.
2) Use the scripting system to do what you want to accomplish.

I suspect that the BitcoinJS project would have that code:

2612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whats the requirement for posting in trade section? on: July 27, 2011, 03:47:43 PM
Is it not the same as the newbie restrictions ?

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=15958.0

It is. The trade board has no other special restrictions.
2613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just fell for my first trojan on: July 27, 2011, 03:43:30 PM
So how come nobody is improving the client?  It's open source and there seems to be plenty of interest.  I'm surprised that we're not seeing a continual evolution of the software on a regular basis like we do with other popular open source projects.
It's simple: we lack actual coders. We have plenty of "developers", but nobody seems to actually want to code anything.
2614  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible for mt. gox or tradehill to scam you whenever you trade? on: July 27, 2011, 03:41:06 PM
This is known as front running, which is highly illegal on regulated exchanges. Of course, Bitcoin exchanges aren't regulated, so they could get away with it. However, they'd lose all of their business as soon as we found out it was happening.
2615  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did the programmers of the official bitcoin client release the trojan? on: July 27, 2011, 04:37:27 AM
There are two main reasons why this was an extremely low priority feature to add:

1) It is extremely dangerous. One wrong character in the code could permanently corrupt everybody's wallet. A larger development team and more testing was needed to stop this. Additionally, it's easy to lose the password. That's something that the community didn't need to worry about back when wallet stealing wasn't an issue.

2) It doesn't protect against much. All but the simplest of trojans will still steal all of your funds. It'll just take slightly more than the two lines of code that's currently needed.
2616  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Posting on the non-newbie section on: July 27, 2011, 03:49:26 AM
PM a mod if you don't get a reply to something here after about a day. If we can't answer it ourselves, we'll move it for you.
2617  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Setting/confirming transaction fee from JSON-RPC API on: July 27, 2011, 03:46:55 AM
Not at the moment. The closest thing out there is the estimate TX fee patch (try searching for it), but it's not completely accurate since it doesn't lock the coins that were used to calculate the fee.
2618  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: July 25, 2011, 08:19:27 PM

2620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitbill banking card on: July 23, 2011, 10:05:08 PM
The bank cards initially come with a sticker over the QR code and private key. If these are tampered with or missing, do not use the card.
