3021  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS bitcoins for GBP (UK Bank Transfer) on: November 24, 2012, 09:08:00 PM
Price will be current GBP price on Mtgox. Eg. Currently Last price:£7.79900

Have a total of 125 bitcoins for sale.

Early next week you will be able to buy again through Blockchain.info with an instant bank transfer:

What happened to this? I'd love to use that new method, but can't find the deposit button anymore.

For the UK this will be available again Monday or Tuesday.

You might want to post your offer in the following thread which is watched by other buyers and sellers in the UK -- and since the OP is currently without a bank account there are probably others willing to buy from you:

Had my uk bank accounts frozen today , all trades were completed no bitcoins or gbp owed to any customers - will update the thread once the these issues are resolved .
3022  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL to not match competitors products not shipped on: November 24, 2012, 07:25:57 PM
If so, where would this leave BFL customers who have already taken delivery if BFL does ship first and 72GH/s products are on the market shortly thereafter?

Well, it would probably leave them in the best position possible at this point.    I doubt there is a single person who would turn down the chance to receive BFL's 60 Ghash/s today versus waiting a month to be able to receive a 72 Ghash/s device in its place -- especially if that 72Ghash/s is competing against ASICs starting to be delivered from competitors like bASIC.
3023  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Date for 25 BTC per Block on: November 24, 2012, 05:04:24 PM
Current estimation with 570 seconds: Wed Nov 28 17:22:04 UTC 2012

Except we have one last difficulty adjustment coming before block 210,000.

Interestingly, however, the estimate for the next difficulty is at about the same level as the current difficulty.

So barring any changes in mining capacity (or extreme swing as the result of variance) it is looking like the halving will occur Wednesday afternoon/evening (U.S. timezones)  near the midnight hour for much of Europe and early morning Thursday in Asia.
3024  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Greenpeace on: November 24, 2012, 07:10:35 AM
Whatever your feelings are for Greenpeace, I think most would agree these folks have chutzpah...my guess is that they would support Bitcoin. Anyone a member? Has Bitpay been in touch?

The challenge is in getting past how Bitcoin mining consumes a fair amount of electricity.  Maybe with the efficiency of ASIC this will temper that argument for a while.
3025  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anyone know how long it would take to remake the lost money with... on: November 24, 2012, 07:05:36 AM
Anyone know or think how long they know it would take for a BTCFPGA 27Gh/s bASIC to pay for itself with the new difficulty coming in? Or atleast anyone know a calculator or something that would let me calculate it?

Do you know the "new difficulty coming in"?   Because if so, the knowledge of that is worth a lot more than anything you could make with 27 Ghash/s.
3026  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: beowulf device.. on: November 24, 2012, 05:51:18 AM
BEOWULF Device?
i mean crude beowulf assembly for mining.

CPU mining for all of those combined might result in maybe a few tens of Mhash/s at best.

A $1,000 ASIC shipping "real soon now" can mine at 2,000 times that.
A $100 GPU even can mine at ten times that.
3027  Other / Off-topic / Re: Has Butterfly filled all pre-orders from their current stock purchase? on: November 24, 2012, 05:16:25 AM
Since Butterfly labs posted that they bought a static amount of chips and can only make x number of rigs does this mean if you miss the first batch that gets sent out you have to wait until the second batch is made?

From another thread:

The initial orders will be grouped into a batch prior to shipment.  This will ensure no one is an unfair beneficiary of disproportionate hashing power.  Having said this, we only have so much production capacity and the initial order group will still do very very well.  That being the case, here are the rules we will stick to in releasing these units.

1/3rd of the units will go in order priority of purchase date.
1/3rd of the units will go to trade in customers.
1/3rd of the units will go to random orders placed in the first month (6/23 - 7/23).

And then, from the post on BFL's forum:

After the initial orders are shipped then units are produced and shipped daily.  Those shipments go out to the oldest unfilled orders (based on the payment date).

Quote
There is a first shipment which is the 1/3 plan, which you could call the 1st batch. After that, it's a FIFO method. How many are in the first shipment (aka the 1st batch) we don't know yet.

ll have they already used up all their purchased chips/hardware from their pre-orders or there are spots left?

In the reference above limited the date range for the random orders was limited through July 23rd.  It appears at the time then that the initial batch was expected to be fully allocated and no orders paid for later than July 23rd would be in that batch.  (And thus all are spoken for).  That's just how I'm interpreting that and I could be probably am wrong.
3028  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mtgox? on: November 23, 2012, 10:01:53 PM
Do people still use mtgox for UK transfers?

Wire transfers from UK are not cheap like SEPA transfers are.  And international wires to UK banks are expensive also.

But which direction are you needing, to an exchange or from?

For buying bitcoins, Barclays Pingit through Blockchain.info seems to fill the gap for many:

For cashing out I was going to suggest this one service but ...

3029  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Business email campaign on: November 23, 2012, 09:58:09 PM
(I have been surprised how many still answer that they don't know what it is...) Cheesy

It is an easy excuse.

Every few months I get called by a sales rep from an e-commerce service that I'm a long-time customer with.  When I am asked if I have any questions or if they can do anything to better serve me I ask about being able to pay with bitcoin (or even Dwolla).  Recently was the third time I've asked the exact same person and the response was no different from the first instance ... "Oh?  What's is it?   No, I'm not familiar with bitcoin.  I'll enter that request in your file though."

And yet every order I place, I have to go through PayPal once again.

Having WordPress onboard now though is huge.

Also, as Square lands a few more bricks and mortar businesses to use their iPad tablet app, each of those businesses the are already equipped to accept bitcoin using either a payment processor or just an EWallet like Blockchain.info/wallet.

I don't see that in many places yet though ... merchants still like their old aging cash register / point of sale terminals and card swipe machines.  But these will get swapped out eventually so putting the bug in their ear that you'ld like for them to start accepting Bitcoin payment definitely won't hurt.

3030  Economy / Securities / Re: Legal Ways of Running a Crowdfunding Platform on: November 23, 2012, 08:09:55 PM
With all the many threads discussing the legality of the current available Exchanges/Crowdfunding platforms/OTC or whatever you might want to call it, lets use this threads to capture fact on how this could possibly be addressed in a legal way (US,UK,Europe)

From the experience of GLBSE we know that there is an abundance of interest for equity crowdfunding using only bitcoins -- regardless of whether or not a platform to provide that is in compliance with securities laws of any jurisdictions.

There's really a stake in the ground that needs to be addressed in this discussion though.  Can (or should) a platform serve more than one jurisdiction?

In the U.S. the eagerly awaited crowdfunding bill is being castrated:

Quote
the JOBS Act is headed toward disappointment. I expect the average deal size will be around $500,000. This is not bad in itself, but it leaves out in the cold most startups.

So sure, a broker that is fully compliant could accept bitcoins from an investor just as that broker can accept cash / paper money.  But that broker would still need to do all the other legwork involved, and thus still does not serve the low end -- there will not be someone using crowdfunding under the new U.S. JOBS act to get their first $10K, for instance.

But maybe there are other jurisdictions that a platform could be registered in where there is no violation of securities laws there.

If the asset issuer does its entire financial dealings in bitcoin then there's no need for involvement of banks.  This asset issuer could register and operate in nearly any jurisdiction -- particularly one in which equity crowdfunding is not in violation of any securities laws there.

But there's a problem -- if that issuer accepts investment from investors from the U.S., that issuer is likely in violation of U.S. securities law.  Does that mean the equity crowdfunding platform must request (and verify) the identity of each investor in order to ensure that those from the U.S. are not becoming investors?   Or is it as simple as notifying the investor that the service is not offered to those in certain jurisdictions and then the investor must assert (e.g., marking a checkbox) that the investment is not coming from any of those jurisdictions?
3031  Other / Politics & Society / Re: U.S. CrowdFunding Bill on: November 23, 2012, 06:40:52 PM
what the fuck does the bill do? i want 1-3 sentences...

Well, it is looking like it doesn't do a whole lot.

Typical KickStarter deals won’t naturally transfer to equity crowdfunding and the vast majority of startup founders won’t receive any help at all from the JOBS Act.

3032  Economy / Lending / Re: Seeking $1000 USD Loan, 1% weekly up to 4 weeks. on: November 23, 2012, 09:47:16 AM
I'm seeking the loan because I want to go long BTC before the reward drop. I have enough bitcoins to sell and cover the loan if btc does go down during the loan.

ICBIT.se provides leverage 1:10 leverage.  Obviously going 10X with a volatile currency like bitcoin is nutzoid but you can simply deposit 1 BTC and from those funds you get margin and from that buy a 1 BUZ2 contract. So if BTC/USD goes up a $1, the future might go up around $1 as well.

So you get the upside in value on 2 BTC, but only had 1 BTC deposited.  Again, that 1 BTC deposit has a lot more leverage, and you could actually buy multiple BUZ2 contracts with that 1 BTC (up to about 10 contracts).

Additionally, BUZ2 can be obtained at about 4% below the spot market at present so with less than a month from settlement on that even if BTC/USD doesn't gain you would realize that 4% difference.

Now the risks are, of course, that the exchange rate drops and if you are too far leveraged (and thus insufficient margin) you could possibly end up having your account liquidated.

Another risk is that ICBIT is operated anonymously, and the track record for exchanges and other services that hold coins and are operated anonymously is not good.

But I wanted to share this here in case it was of interest to you.
3033  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need to report a scammer on the forums... on: November 23, 2012, 07:37:40 AM
He said that he would send me the BTC in 24 hrs after receiving the gift card...no, I did not receive any BTC from him.
Why would he impersonate someone else like that and then turn around to sell the gift card on these forums for best offer?  A scammer unless he was really intending to take a loss here which I doubt.

Yes, that impersonation of a trusted nick on IRC  (e.g., using a similar nick by appending a character to the end) is happening a lot.

If you haven't asked to be whitelisted you can try that.  Then you could move this thread to the Scam Accusations board.

Was this through IRC?  Do you by chance still have the IRC chat log for that?

Incidentally the IRC bot gribble will PM to anyone joining #bitcoin-otc with this message:

Quote
#bitcoin-otc: Watch out for fraudsters! Always check authentication with the ident command before trading, otherwise you could be dealing with an impostor. If in doubt, ask in channel. More info: http://bit.ly/YCGOI3
3034  Economy / Services / Re: Is there a Service for Automated BTC-Product for Newegg.CA on: November 23, 2012, 07:18:51 AM
I know that there is an service for Newegg.COM and vairous other sites (i forget what it is called, Please remind me)
But last i checked it did not support Newegg.CA

So if someone were to buy a gift card and sell it to you, you could pay that person with bitcoins.

Perhaps there is someone on #bitcoin-cad who would do that (someone with a trust history, of course) :

I am having the exact same problem with dwolla verification failed but cannot pm you right now. Is there anything you can do?

Now that you have your "1 post" you can send a PM.  Try again.
3036  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Pay for DDOS Protection with Bitcoin! BlackLotus on: November 23, 2012, 06:32:20 AM
Many merchants start out converting everything to USD (or other local currency), but then after some period of time start increasing the percentage they keep in BTC.

Does your fee prorate based on the percentage received in BTC vs local currency?

I think the following, from another thread, answers your question:

Merchants can now split their proceeds into two currencies. For example, a merchant can elect to receive 20% bitcoins and 80% Canadian Dollars. The processing fees are only applied to the prorated amount that is to be converted.
3037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: blockchain.info request declined on: November 23, 2012, 04:52:14 AM
I recently had to restore my iphone firmware and lost my google authenticator.
I have tried to remove the two factor authentication from my account but received an email saying it was declined.

Do you have a backup of your encrypted wallet?  Does this help?

To restore an email backup create a new account with the same password click,  [Import / Export] then [Import Backup] and past the contents of the email backup in the text area.
3038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Satoshi dice max bet? on: November 23, 2012, 03:37:13 AM
I accidentally sent more than the maximum bet on satoshi dice. I haven't received a transaction back yet - does anyone know what happens when you exceed the maximum bet?

It gets returned.  I think they even pay the transaction fee though I'm not sure.

You can search:

In looking up the last bunch of transactions, I don't see any that were ABOVE MAX.

You can search for the transaction here:

3039  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: how does mtgox run out of money ? i dont get it on: November 22, 2012, 07:36:55 PM
the only way for mtgox to dont have funds is fuckups some there was a fuckup and someone took more money out that they have sould took out and now they dont have the funds ....

Um ... no.  It happens because they don't hold CADs to back every bid on the BTC/CAD order book.   When you sell into those bids, and Mt. Gox's estimate of how much selling into the BTC/CAD would occur was too little, they then need to convert funds from some other currency they hold.

Scroll up.  It's all explained for you.
3040  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Confused about addresses on: November 22, 2012, 07:27:45 PM
Code:
[earl@b2x2:~/.bitcoin]$ pywallet.py --datadir=./ --wallet=wallet.dat --dumpwallet | grep "$ADDRESS_VISIBLE_IN_BITCOIN_QT"

You probably are not seeing the error message.

Try just this.

 $ pywallet.py --dumpwallet

And if the wallet is encrypted, you'll need to add --password=PASSWORD
