FYI I voted this morning and Trump/Pence was at the top of the list...

That's interesting. Where was Biden? Any other candidates?
I think Biden was second, followed by LIB then GRN. Didn't even know we had a Green Party candidate, seems we do.

Isn't all this essential behaviour for US presidents? My understanding is that the Oxford scholar - Clinton, was worse, and then there is Obama, who canme from the British Commonwealth to screw up the US.

They think it's important to attack, attack, attack. Likely because of the email dumps from Hunter Bidens associates now indicate that Joe Biden was on the take for millions from China and Russia/Ukranian payoffs.

This is being somewhat suppressed in the US Media currently.

Then again your decision on who to vote for shouldn't change based on where they are on the ballot.

I can 100% guarantee you that position in a list is an important factor in which item people pick from that list. This is basic survey design.

FYI I voted this morning and Trump/Pence was at the top of the list...

A LOT of small businesses don't use the Corporate Structure.

Somewhat OT to this but still an interesting thought is that in the digital eCommerce age how many small businesses do not exist on paper.
People selling on eBay, etsy, Amazon, etc. They are making a living but doing it all themselves or with a partner but never really filed the paperwork or anything else.

How many freelancers are out there doing web design / programming work and just depositing the checks so to speak?

-Dave

Yes, this is what Twitch and I were discussing. If you did work and got checks, and deposited them you'd be using what is called a "Schedule C" or sole proprietor style of tax reporting. Granted a lot of people  would just cash the checks and not bother with this, but let's say a "real business" is one that nets more than 10k or 50k per year.

This has been done before when Terry Jones had declared to burn the Quran on a specific date and made the people in Libya to attack the US embassy and sadly killed the US ambassador. the result of which the Pastor did.

Except that really wasn't what happened there, was it?

Initial analysis by the CIA, repeated by top government officials, indicated that the attack spontaneously arose from a protest. Subsequent investigations showed that the attack was premeditated—although rioters and looters not originally part of the group may have joined in after the attacks began.

You have to know that terrorist "islamic" groups are paid by occidental countries, including of course "Israël" at a good place.
Terrorist "islamist" group kill about 90% of muslims, 10% of christians, an never attack "Israël", because they are paid and healed by this entity......

It'd be significant if, say the Iranian mullahs came out publicly against these silly, stupid, extremist actions such as the beheadings.

But they won't.

And the same for the Saudi religious leaders.

By the way, your attempting to lecture on islamic extremism falls very flat. Have a nice day!

www.thereligionofpeace.com

Why are muslims so frightened of discussion or criticism of their religion?
I have always been curious how this all comes down.

A Wanna-be-Beheader finds someone with cartoons about Mohammed.

How does he know those are cartoons about the "islamic leader of 7th century?"

They could be about any old Mohammed. It's a very common name. A lot of times, the cartoon will just have a fierce looking dude with a head wrap. Could possibly not even be Islam. Some other religious sects do that also.

What's the punishment for the Beheader who wrongly beheads? What does he think, if he made a mistake?

A LOT of small business use the Corporate structure, and file taxes using the 1120 form. Entities such as docs and legal sharks use the 1120S. Others use the Schedule C on the regular 1040.

A LOT of small businesses don't use the Corporate Structure.

And a lot of those Schedule C's are hobby businesses, or various small fry stuff.

But the Trump tax reforms benefitted Sch C, 1120, 1120S...

And as far as "benefitting the large corporations," didn't he say he was cutting them a break to get those companies to come back on shore? I think that was a separate tax law change.

Funny how they put Trump at the bottom -- they make Trump voters have to do some reading before casting their vote....

Design of such documents requires juggling the locations of candidates on the form, to overcome the biases.

But it would not surprise me if they skipped the science stuff.

~

The barriers protect the checkout staff though. Staff who are in close proximity to hundreds of people each day (some of them maskless freedom-warriors). With no barriers, staff are more likely to get infected and then, with no barriers, we as shoppers are more likely to contract the virus from the infected staff.

Agree that air conditioning isn't great, though. It's all compromise solutions to keep the economy functioning, whilst keeping infection rate as low as possible given the economy is the government's overriding priority.

The actual fix to this would be to blow the AC/Heated air from below the floor straight up.

RE the perfume dispersion that's an example of equilibrating partial pressures of gases. In that case the plastic barriers do nothing at all. It's not the same as viral particle dispersion mechanism. I think...

Yeah I wasn't saying that small businesses donate to Democrats or anything along those lines. I was moreso saying that Republicans need to get out of the mindset of helping large businesses more often then they help small businesses. Things like lowering the corporate tax rate is great, but it does help big large profitable businesses moreso then small businesses which may be bringing out a small profit every year.

Taking another look at payroll taxes would help both large and small businesses alike. Deducting expenses more easily, making filing easier, etc.

A LOT of small business use the Corporate structure, and file taxes using the 1120 form. Entities such as docs and legal sharks use the 1120S. Others use the Schedule C on the regular 1040.

I have the impression that they were all seriously benefiting from the Trump tax reform. Haven't looked up numbers on it, though. But clearly cutting the top rates and increasing Section 179 depreciation to 2M per year is huge.

In the areas I travel through, I have seen some interesting things in yard signs.

These are a variety of highly democratic to highly republic areas over several hundred miles.

It's very common to see Trump signs in yards, with a fraction of those having a yard sign also for one or two local or state Repub candidates.

For the yards with Demo signs, they will be for local or state candidates primarily. Maybe one yard in four or five will have a Biden sign.

The religion of peace strikes again. Roll Eyes
At least they say the suspect was shot so no more beheading for him. There are virging goats awaiting him in the afterlife.

Islam is the religion of peace and it preaches peace in the world. However incidents like these are condemn by the Islamic teachings and those who are involved in these activities are not muslims or are the one's giving bad names to the muslims.

It's unfortunate the number and variety of bad names muslims accumulate.

All from the link you provided:

In the 1940s Byrd was in the Klan.

He "then spent decades apologizing for what he called a ‘sad mistake".

In his 2005 memoir he wrote "It has emerged throughout my life to haunt and embarrass me and has taught me in a very graphic way what one major mistake can do to one’s life, career, and reputation,"

So your conclusion is that, since Bird died in 2010 - the democratic party shared ideals with the Klan until 2010.

Quite a stretch, even for you - the guy who attacked me for calling someone racist who was openly recruiting for the KKK and calling for all blacks to be caged again or sent back to africa where they belong.  You weren't triggered by what he said, you were triggered that someone was called a racist.

I'm just looking for some period where you can rationally, objectively claim some moral high ground to pontificate about other peoples' faults from.

There's no triggering here. Triggering is a ridiculous contrived liberal delusion.

395  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The problem of cemeteries and until where the cemeteries will be sustained? on: October 17, 2020, 03:19:00 PM
I have and will never be a fan of cemeteries, they just take too much space, if the loved ones wants to visit a dead relative, why dont they just cremate and store the ashes in a container and keep them in their houses. Lands are becoming expensive and there is lots of overcrowding almost everywhere.

Existing cemeteries should be destroyed and new homes, schools built in their place.  No more new cemeteries.  They serve no purpose.
Waste of resources.

Human corpses should be cremated and ashes used in ag industries, or given back to families if desired.

There's a much simpler way, which is just to dump all the coffins at the edges of Washington DC. Over time they can level the mound say at 300' higher than the initial ground level. Then the trucks drive up, and dump their loads.

It might take a decade or two but the swamp would be filled in, and the swamp creatures would be no more.
396  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Presidential debates on: October 17, 2020, 12:32:25 AM
This is gonna hurt Trump's feelings:

Joe Biden's town hall on ABC averaged 14.1 million viewers on Thursday night, easily surpassing the Nielsen ratings for President Trump's town hall on NBC.

That alone was a result virtually no one in the TV business expected. And that's not even the most surprising part.

The Trump town hall was simulcast by two of NBC's cable channels, MSNBC and CNBC, but even when those channels are included in the total, Biden -- on only one network -- still prevailed.

The Trump town hall averaged 10.9 million viewers on the NBC broadcast network. On MSNBC, Trump reached 1.8 million viewers, and on CNBC, about 720,000 viewers. So Trump's gross audience across the three channels was 13.5 million, still fewer than Biden's audience on ABC alone.

As for the non-debate itself, Biden's was boring and Trump's was cringy, as expected. Biden completely fumbled a question about black voters and Trump failed to denounce QAnon because - yep, he doesn't know them LOL. I can't recall anything else of particular importance but I only watched like 20 minutes of each.

An interesting statistic (that we'll never get) is not how many "watched", but how many quit watching and after how long.

In any functioning democracy there will be people that have the same mindset as yours and that is great. You happen to agree with some Republican policies and probably will agree with some Democratic ones. Each voter will have to make their decision based on the policies of the parties as well as the people standing as candidates. Jobs, economy and foreign policy are just a few important factors to name but these will be kept in mind by those heading to cast their votes.

At last someone else on the internet who gets it.

The stock market it not the economy.
Crap low paying jobs are not the same as skilled jobs / trade jobs.

And my favorite. Ignoring change and advancement because you don't like it does not mean that it's going away.

-Dave

Just as something to know, this is not me saying that I'm a major democrat or something. I'd say that I agree with the Republicans on tax policy and such, probably lean more on the libertarian side of things for some policies as well.

But yes, I would totally agree with what I said before about the economy. Regular peoples incomes and jobs are not indicated well on the stock market for obvious reasons. Republicans have to start caring about small businesses in America and advocating for pro small business policies. Kinda disgusting that I have to listen to Joe Biden to hear him say things about small businesses and such.

But.... sigh... here we are.

One major problem IMHO is all the lying about what the other side will do or wants to do. These are getting to be pretty tired old memes trotted out over and over in every election cycle, and they really won't help move things forward.

Bolded above, pretty much inaccurate. If you check the sources and amounts of contributions to congressional and senate candidates, you will find most small business is to the Republican, and big business, labor unions, teachers unions and such contribute to Democrats.
399  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Presidential debates on: October 15, 2020, 11:16:14 PM
Okay you win. Maybe he's POTUS for nine-more while they argue the case, the appeal, the next level appeal, and the supreme court.

Ah, but the pesky constitution always getting in the way of well-intended dictatorships. Trump can't stay past noon January 20.

Nothing says having respect for the constitution quite like packing the courts so justices can legislate from the bench, effectively getting rid of separations of power.
There is a reason why both Biden and Harris are refusing to say if they will pack the SC, including in the debates. The only explanation is they know it is widely unpopular but plan on doing so anyway. If this was not the case, they would simply come out and say they are against court packing.

Saying they won't could alienate younger more liberal voters (think Bernie Bros).

Saying they will could alienate Republicans that plan on voting for Biden.

I think it's entirely possible, and makes sense even, to keep packing the courts on the table without making a promise to actually do it.

Ah, the fine practice of debating the nuances of the lies of the lying liars.

...

Wealthy clients, like Trump, make it hard for the IRS as they can also employ fat cat tax lawyers to protect them.

But at that point, it's his legal team against their legal team, and the most likely outcome of that is a negotiated settlement rather than a court. There's nothing wrong with that - the Gov might get half plus penalties. That's particularly okay if the dispute is over a vague point of tax code, subject to multiple interpretations.

Oh yeah, totally not saying that it is BAD that wealthy clients have more resources to defend themselves, more so just bringing it up. It wasn't even a jab at Trump, moreso just saying that the IRS doesn't really have the funding to go against someone with the money to back themselves up.

If ya send a notice to someone who is poor and then force them to pay, they're going to do so.

If you try that same thing with someone who is wealthier, it's not going to fly.

People could debate if the IRS is always truly forthcoming about what you owe them, but that's for another time.

I really have no clue whether what you are saying might be true. The IRS doesn't really need "Lots of funding" to go against someone with the money to fight them. The case just gets settled informally, or like I mentioned, it goes to tax court and the judges decide.

If there's fraud on a billionaire's tax return, I would be very surprised to hear of cases where it was discovered and let go. The exception would be something like law enforcement wanted to let the guy run around for a couple years before roping him in, and so by agreement the return is processed normally. Maybe LEO wants to learn the entire network of drug dealers, then capture them all at once. Cases involving national security, you could expect that.
