401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If satoshi shows he has still controll of all of his coins what would happen ? on: January 25, 2024, 07:36:46 PM
I believe that even the movement is from one cold wallet to another, there will be panic because it will confirm that Satasho is still alive and in control of his assets. This may affect future plans of many investors because of the fear that Satasho can sometime in the future, dump his coin which will be devastating for Bitcoin.
Without any contrary information, the general idea is that Satoshi is alive and in control of his assets, we cannot assume otherwise if we don't have any information on that.

But you're right that there still would be panic whichever direction Satoshi moves his coins, but if it's from one cold storage to another the impact will be notably lesser than if it is to an exchange address and more short lived.
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If satoshi shows he has still controll of all of his coins what would happen ? on: January 23, 2024, 06:28:41 PM
You don't move coins by mistake.

If Satoshi does move his coins, the result on the market will depend on if he is transferring from one cold storage to another or if he's moving them to an exchange wallet which suggests the intention of wanting to sell.

All of the whale alert accounts would being hysteria as well as blogs too, and there would be speculations of if Satoshi wants to come out of anonymity.

If there is no more movement from the account, the crypto community would move on after a week or two.
403  Other / Meta / Re: cls63 Merit Source Application on: January 23, 2024, 06:02:37 PM
Welcome to the waiting list of merit source applications. It's another year waiting for theymos to make some changes and we hope it does happen this year.

I know there are members who can do this work much better than me on our board. When I talked to some of them they said they didn't have enough time for this work.
This is a voluntary job and  any prominent member with the means and time to actually take on the task is worthy enough.
404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who run Bitcoin Nodes, what's your opinion about the Ordinals/NFT? on: January 22, 2024, 08:55:41 PM
if you prune you are then offering less network decentralised security service for the peers. as you no longer become a FULL node source of blockdata for new peers.
But it's better than not being a source of data at all.
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who run Bitcoin Nodes, what's your opinion about the Ordinals/NFT? on: January 22, 2024, 04:03:41 PM
50$ is a lot in poor countries and we need people running nodes in all parts of the world, not only North America and Europe.
With a 1Tb hard drive, anyone would be able to run a full node now. Bitcoin has been around 15 years and the total data space it's taking is just above 500gb

I used the 2-4TB to show that what you need to run a full node for many decades to come.
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who run Bitcoin Nodes, what's your opinion about the Ordinals/NFT? on: January 22, 2024, 03:45:08 PM
This disincentivizes people to run Bitcoin Nodes, and the network will be less decentralized, hurting the higher pillar of the Bitcoin Network.
It doesn't

With a hard drive of 2-4 Tb, you'll have no issue storing blockchain data for a long, long time. And it doesn't cost you up to $50
407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain Bitcoin to A Second Grader in Four Sentences? on: January 22, 2024, 03:42:37 PM
"Digital money which the banks don't control,
You are your own bank and decide how to store/use your money.
It is highly secure, cause every holder has a role in securing it,
And there's not enough of it for everyone"

How'd I do?
408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who run Bitcoin Nodes, what's your opinion about the Ordinals/NFT? on: January 22, 2024, 03:37:05 PM
Ordinals suck for the strain it puts on the network causing higher fees, but nodes do not have to consent to anything when they are the ones keeping a record of the blockchain. It might not be ordinals and could be spammers flooding the network with little dust transactions and nodes would still keel a record of that for validity.

The disk space used is not significantly higher and if it's a bother, they can run a pruned node.
409  Other / Meta / Re: Use of AI on Bitcoin talk on: January 22, 2024, 03:30:40 PM
If someone really don't how to speak English, they can use google translate, grammarly, AI etc, and give a credit if you use an automation tool.
You don't even have to credit the automation tool. It's your content, you put in into the system and it adds punctuations and other grammatical changes to make the write up easier to read and a the same time boosts the writer's understanding of the English language. A double win.

If they want to credit the took for other non native speakers, then sure. But they don't have to do so to avoid any form of punishment.
410  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Trouble withdrawing from Kucoin? on: January 21, 2024, 04:30:58 PM
I am almost certain you are on a clone scam website.

Can you backtrack a bit and tell us how you got this amount on Kucoin in the first place? Did you store it there a while ago or did you get an email or something about mysteriously having a balance on the exchange and requesting you to make the payments?
411  Other / Meta / Re: Old account revival on: January 21, 2024, 04:25:20 PM
To be honest, I never even knew someone here can help you recover your account as I thought it's done manually as you are already having the email used for the registration, I thought clicking the  forgotten password option to reset the password by accessing the email sent to you is the way to go back the issue.
Forgotten password will work if you forgot your password and cannot access it or if a hacker gets into your account and changes the password.

But if your account is locked, maybe through trying to recover the account using 'secret question' option or if it was archived, then you'll need to request for it to be unlocked.
412  Economy / Economics / Re: China’s Debt-to-GDP Ratio Rises a Record of 286.1% on: January 21, 2024, 03:59:27 PM
Pretty bad since the CCP is asking local government to stop infrastructure project, might not sound that important, but this is China and the CCP, infrastructure projects as big as they can be are a show of power and wealth
<snip>
I read somewhere last year that a huge part of the problem China had with growing debts was poor allocation of resources to revenue sources like infrastructure and property. So it makes sense that they are easing up on hat as the debt problem only continues to grow.

I'm pretty sure that some even after readying the title are already typing something about the US debt so keep the shitty low effort propaganda whataboutism out of this:
I think this warning will only invite the argument more that discouraging it.  Smiley
413  Other / Meta / Re: Old account revival on: January 21, 2024, 03:45:45 PM
Back in the day account recoveries used to take months, but for a while now they've been getting sorted out within a good timeframe. Try sending a reminder email and then giving it a few days.
414  Other / Meta / Re: Allow to make thread self-moderated even after posting on: January 20, 2024, 09:18:58 AM
You are always subjected to possible moderation every time you post on this forum. If the staff feels like your post breaks any forum rules or it gets reported, there is a possibility you will get moderated both in a self-moderated and standard thread. With OP's suggestion, you are just adding one more person to the mix that has the ability to moderate you.
I am always aware of the forum moderation and the rules it follows. Being on the forum and posting means I have to keep to the forum rules.

With self moderated threads, the OP has local rules which doesn't necessarily have to be in line with the forum rules. They can delete my posts out of spite or the to control the direction of the conversation.
If I post in a self moderated thread, I am saying, "hey it is cool for me and I'm willing to play to the local rules." Making a post with no warning of it being self moded and that getting changed later on has too many cons.
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PODCAST for the BITCOINTALKERS. on: January 20, 2024, 07:55:48 AM
This is a good idea, somewhat similar to the bitcointalkshow on YouTube which sadly is not so active anymore. It would take a lot to get members that would be willing to 'speak' weekly, every two weeks or one month may be a better idea.

I would also advice you book speakers for at least 3-5 episodes before you kickstart the program, bthat way every week or two weeks is notba struggle to get the next willing member to join.
Best of luck.
416  Other / Meta / Re: Find a deleted post that contains a specific text on: January 20, 2024, 07:43:29 AM
This is only possible if the OP clicked the "preview" button before posting it then got deleted later on. Else it won"t save on that page, the only way is check the archive tools mentioned already above.
The action of 'posting' automatically adds what you post to drafts. Previewing does the same but you do not have to do it for a post to move to the drafts.
417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't be deceived!! on: January 20, 2024, 07:33:34 AM
As the cherry on top, every now and then, there's an altcoin which shoots up in price ridiculously over a very short period of time. This is most likely manipulated and it motivates more people to store up as many shitcoins as possible, 'afterall, they are only a few cents each and could be worth thousands in the future'.

More of this would happen as the general cryptocurrency market begins to turn bullish and fomo sets in.
418  Economy / Reputation / Re: Farewell on: January 17, 2024, 08:18:05 PM
Good night Leo.
419  Other / Meta / Re: Allow to make thread self-moderated even after posting on: January 17, 2024, 06:56:37 PM
if the main reason is you "forgot" to set it to self-moderated thread, and the number of reply is just say 5 or even lower (depends on the admin) i guess it's reasonable. More than that won't be possible.
Those "5" or less users did not subscribe to be moderated by you.

Self moderated threads have a warning there telling other users to avoid posting if they don't want to be moderated by the OP, changing it after a user already posted means they get to be subject to something they may have not wanted.

What would make it acceptable is if you can only moderate the thread from the point you changed it to self mod and previous post stays the same.
420  Other / Meta / Re: Change username? on: January 16, 2024, 06:45:27 PM
Worst still, you are just a newbie (on forum) and there isn’t much need to be worked up on changing your name. Most of those that have happened to need this change in the past are those that have attained certain rank on the forum and have archived so much with an account not to want a different account but for some reason, don’t want to be known by same username from account creation.
The most common reason for a name change is security risk. If a newbie or legendary members needs a name change for their privacy, the admin would attend to it promptly. If it's just for aesthetics, it would take a long while and you'll need to be prominent enough, even that might not be enough.

The most recent newbie I can remember who got a name change appeal granted was a user that opened an account using their email as the username. That presented an obvious security risk which theymos attended to.
