1321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if the government of a country is irresponsible? on: December 28, 2022, 06:26:36 AM
What if the government of a country is irresponsible and issues a large amount of currency to buy Bitcoin?
I don't see this as being irresponsible. El Salvador has added bitcoins to their balance sheet for a couple of years now and other countries doing so would only make Bitcoin more popular among their citizens and grow adoption.

If some unscrupulous governments print a lot of money in order to repay debts and fight inflation, of course it will not be one time. Credit money no longer has credit.
Irresponsible money printing is one of the major reasons for the current inflation, printing more money to solve the problem would only make it worse and further weaken the currency being printed.
1322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An BTC Assumption on: December 28, 2022, 05:59:20 AM
But you were following all the security practices you can possibly can, like generate everything offline, good entropy, not using brain wallet and so on and so forth.
If you follow all security practices when using Bitcoin, which are a lot, the possibility of getting hacked is almost non existence.
If you're holding a centralized asset on a centralized wallet or exchange, then you can be hacks without you having to do anything.

But on a decentralized protocol like Bitcoin, stored on a non custodian wallet softwarr or hardware and backs up securely, you can sleep easy knowing your funds are safe.

We don't know everything, right?
That's why we're constantly trying to learn.
1323  Economy / Economics / Re: What was your lowest point financially? How did you go through it ? on: December 27, 2022, 07:45:56 PM
I've had no remarkable low point in crypto which other users can learn from and would not want to share orivaet experiences outside this space.

But what has allowed me overcome situations I've found myself is always staying curious. Curious for ideas, solutions, suggestions etc. It's easy to feel defeated if things don't go as planned and throw in the towel, but by remaining curious, you would remain open to new opportunities. This of course is just one ingredient out of many which we need to acquire to achieve success.
1324  Economy / Reputation / Re: 5000 good posts reported - we can all do it too! on: December 27, 2022, 07:13:56 PM
If this reporter badge suggestion has been implemented, you would have gotten the top badge already based on the initial proposition. I hope theymos does consider implementing it at a later time, as he seems to work on his own time.

Congratulations OP, and thank you for helping keep the forum clean from spam. I have barely reported enough to be able to view the status of my reports, but find myself reporting less and less with time.

Hello mate, to get advanced notifications, you can use the [snipped link] on Telegram. And please don't say that you don't have Telegram account, cause i think it's highly unlikely that someone in the crypto space doesn't have a Telegram account, LOL.
Well, some people use telegram cause they find it intrusive or annoying, and for some it could be that it requires a mobile number to set up, which they may not want to make public.

LoyceV actually created an alternative which doesn't require telegram for those that don't use the platform. Link here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5331343
1326  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinTalk censorship discussion thread. on: December 27, 2022, 10:56:52 AM
If you don't want this topic to exist I can lock it. To be honest, it's no skin off of my nose. This was all created out of genuine curiosity, but it seems I have ticked people off by making it.
You might need to grow a but of a thicker skin.

Other disagreeing with you does not make your submission invalid, and you shouldn't delete your threads cause you think it does.
And tone of language is scarcely communicated over key pads. Meaning, one might not be ticked off by what you say, but it can come across that way when you read their reply.
1327  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there any security risk of running a bitcoin node? on: December 27, 2022, 10:38:27 AM
Will my home network become a target for hackers if I run a bitcoin node or run bitcoin mining from devices in my home network?
AFAIK, yes, it's possible to be a target of such attacks, but not probable. There could present some security risk and you will need to take some precautions; as suggested above, run it over Tor network and avoid using VPNs. Also, no one needs to know you're running a nice or a mining rig for that matter, although the latter is much harder to keep private.

it better to run bitcoin node / mining in a completely different network?
If you can, do run it over a different network that services your home. Same way you would not want to access your wallet address and Netflix on the same network and device.
1328  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinTalk censorship discussion thread. on: December 27, 2022, 10:27:37 AM
After browsing Meta, I saw these two topics:
Use the search option with the key word censorship; limit the search to Meta board and you will get tons of results related to this, it's not a topic that started few days ago and it's no surprise it's being discussed, this is the internet, people are bound to have different reactions to things.

You can list out all the leads you find, follow discussions there and reach your conclusion.
1329  Other / Meta / Re: Careless copying of forum links redirects you to Binance on: December 27, 2022, 10:18:41 AM
<snip>
I was trying different permutations of the binance domain name and already found about three of such websites looking to take advantage of someone's mistake. The dnstwister would save a lot of time used searching up variations of the URL.

While i agree it should be reported, i bet decent amount of effort is needed since there are 28 similar domain (based on website mentioned by @DdmrDdmr).
Might not be worth it. For one, the reports might not be acted upon, and they are just generic domains that don't take much to create, they will spring up faster than they can be reported.
1330  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mistakes Successful People Never Make Twice on: December 26, 2022, 07:18:03 AM
Playing it safe.
If you constantly play it safe in life, you’re probably hoping to avoid making mistakes by going along with the herd. But this is one of the biggest mistakes of all, because sweeping success only comes to those who are courageous enough to strike out on their own. Successful people may initially allow themselves to fall into this trap, but something in them propels them to take risks. They would rather try something new and fail than take a safe bet and lead a boring life.
It is alright to have a courageous approach to life and the different niches we find ourselves in. But in investments, playing it safe is one of the best advices one can get

It takes time to grow a portfolio and build your profit margin, inorder to last the test of time, one needs to take low, calculated risks, to successfully manage their investments. When you've gotten more profits, you have the freedom to take more risks, but definitely not when you're just starting out with an asset.
1331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Problem with mass adoption of Bitcoin on: December 25, 2022, 01:03:48 PM
In the coming years, according to Bitcoin experts, adoption will increase. He claimed that 3.7 million coins are lost, with the remaining coins being held on chains by early adopters.
There are no Bitcoin experts and If you're going to give a report, you should include the source of that report.
Firstly, there are no groups of early adopters who own the bulk of bitcoins, the distribution of holders is spread among a wide range of adopters from early to late.
Also, the number of potentially lost bitcoins are unknown, everyone can only make conjectures to the amount.

Avoiding a centralized authority controlling the system is one of the issues that Bitcoin seeks to overcome. If there is a large demand and widespread adoption, a supply shock would then occur.
A supply shock is defined by many as "an unexpected event that changes the supply of a product or commodity". This cannot apply to Bitcoin as the amount of bitcoins in circulation and that would ever be in existence is public and cannot change.

However, the issue is still present and may be more significant than the use of fiat money. Unless Bitcoin holding changes in any way. I believe the system should be changed such that each person is limited to holding a certain quantity of Bitcoin.

I think that this will hinder widespread adoption. What do all of you think?
• That's a terrible idea for a decentralized currency. Limiting the amount that people can hold is creating a problem of itself, and would need the entire system to change to achieve that. Why fix something that isn't broken?

• I think we are already on the way to achieving wide spread adoption.
1332  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Plan a more safer 2023, Merry Xmas on: December 25, 2022, 06:15:50 AM
Auditors don't know how to do their jobs right, if not why are all the crypto exchanges that are 100% Audited messing up? Having funds they don't really have.
If they may be doing the exact job they were contracted for; giving the public a faux sense of security.

Such auditing firms operate like many of the trust ratings website, and they both can be paid to give a not so accurate report to sow how safe the platform is - If you won't trust a centralized exchange, why would you trust the report of a centralized platform, on the said exchange?
1333  Economy / Reputation / Re: Members Asking For Neutral Trust To Be Removed on: December 25, 2022, 06:10:28 AM
this has coincided with a particular signature campaign being managed by a particular campaign manager who was vouching for a neutral trust to be removed from a participant but I will not claim that is the only reason I am receiving PMs, I think the timing is suspect that is all. It also has coincided with me removing or revisiting other neutral trust recently.
If you are already reviewing other trust feedbacks you've left, then there's nothing to draw up about the timing of the request. It likely has nothing to do with what whatever campaign manager vouched for, nor does it really matter.

If you left a 'negative' neutral feedback, then it's not surprise the said accounts are acting dubiously as you said, that could be one of the reasons they got the feedbacks in the first place. A neutral feedback does not limit one from much on the forum, so they would not be losing out at all, and maybe they don't know how the forum worse really.

I leave a couple of feedbacks, few and far between, but have only been contacted to remove a negative feedback I left. A request which I declined by the way. It's best to give feedbacks within the limit you can manage and review periodically.
1334  Economy / Economics / Re: Avoid running into financial ruin this Christmas! on: December 25, 2022, 05:40:50 AM
But hey, at least we can all learn from our mistakes and make a plan to have a more financially responsible holiday season next year!
The next Christmas holiday season is 365 days away, rather than using that to plan how to be more financially responsible, it seems better to me to plan how to achieve financial freedom at that time.
This of course does not mean that the rich or wealthy do not have to be responsible financially, they even have to be more so than the poor and middle class. But with financial freedom, comes the liberty to be able to spend a bit more, as they have a much higher profit margin.

Let us aim to be able to afford those things we could not this season. Merry Christmas to you all!!
1335  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be aware of Santa Bitcoin, stay ahead. on: December 24, 2022, 07:18:47 PM
Bitcoin just allows criminals to get away with it easier because the police are not as interested in small scams when using Bitcoin. I think because it is not legal tender they do not consider it worthy enough
Bitcoin does not allow criminals to get away with what they stole. It's easier to make away with a wad of cash stolen from a grocery store than Bitcoins which is on a publicly accessible ledger.
About police interest, it doesn't matter whether a small crime took place with Bitcoin or fiat, the police woul be generally disinterested
1336  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: immune Boosters in the Forum on: December 24, 2022, 07:13:11 PM
'Immune' boosters seem like a wrong term in the context it is being used. Energy boosters (which was used) or incentives which keeps one attracted to the forum is more appropriate.

The most potent reason why many members visit the forum daily, is the potential of earning from it. It is the reason users seek out merits to be able to rank up, and the reason members post to be able to build your activity or meet up with the requirements of a campaign they are on.
I can predict that if all means of earning on the forum is shut down, the traffic here would drop by almost 90% within the first week.
This is definitely more a beration of the members here, but how human nature is. We commit time to things we benefit from; knowledge is a great benefit, but an extra incentive is needed by most to push them to seek out knowledge.
1337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TRUTH WILL ALWAYS SURFACE on: December 24, 2022, 05:13:47 AM
many new comers to the crypto have this wrong idea that bitcoin and all other coins is a scam project and if they put their money their going to loose. Before now i was part of this set of people that thought so, and never actually wanted to understand btc and crpto currency more,
If anyone is going to condemn a project to be a scam without actually understanding how it works and the network behind it, then they are better off not investing in it at all. Those same people would be the weak hands that would fomo in when the market is bulling and cut their losses when it turns bearish; complaining about how Bitcoin is dead and was a sham from the beginning.

FTX is just one of many cases of frauds and scams around the crypto space, which is not directly related to Bitcoin or its operations.

Knowledge is powerful in the investment and financial world. Arm yourself with it before considering any potential venture.
1338  Economy / Economics / Re: Fiat currency (centralized system) on: December 23, 2022, 05:57:22 AM
Few weeks back my country government decided to pass a bill that set everyone withdrawals limit to 20 thousand naira daily and weekly withdrawal at 100k.
Firstly, the policy has been reviewed some few days back raising the limits for all channels of withdrawals as well as reducing the interest payable if one goes above the stipulated amount.
https://nairametrics.com/2022/12/21/cbn-revises-weekly-cash-withdrawal-limits-to-n500-000-n5-million-for-individuals-corporates/

This news caused serious agitation through out the country as the limit set for the withdrawal is really inconvenient with citizens. This made think,  all this and more maybe was the reason why bitcoin was created to liberate we all from such Fiat control financial system.
Well, yes. Bitcoin as an alternative is meant to serve as a way of avoiding the fiat trap. Although Bitcoin is still llikited in utility depending on what part of the world you're in.
1339  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Im new in crypto but i have idea on: December 22, 2022, 06:18:08 PM
I am not exactly sure what you are proposing. Do you want to act as an escrow for physical establishments? I don't think there's a market for such service.

For example: big city like London one person want to sell furniture but there is issue with trust so i tought i start to provide with 2% fee escrow service
Why would they trust you instead?
1340  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the entire Crypto Market ever likely to be Scammed? on: December 22, 2022, 06:13:49 PM
Could the entire crypto market ever be a scam?
How much faith do you have about the crypto world?
• Yes, with the exception of Bitcoin,

• I don't have any faith at all in the crypto market; you do not trust, you only verify. If there are loopholes or flaws which make verifying difficult, the avoid such coin or token.

Can I confidently choose Crypto World to safely store all my hard earned wealth?
Like the bank?
You are confident in the bank? Why then do you need an alternative?
