1201  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to be a successful trader? on: February 06, 2023, 05:05:28 PM
I am trying to learn something new every moment. But in some places I have some difficulty in understanding, hope I will understand those things with time.
If some of the basic lessons are proving difficult, you should put off investing actual money unin you have gotten a hang of it. This doesn't mean you must learn everything before starting off as even the most experienced traders still learn regularly, but you should have a grip of the fundamentals.

Also, trading is not for everyone. There are many skills that one can learn and if you do not really have the interest in something but only want to do it cause you heard it's profitable, chances are you would not be successful at it.
1202  Economy / Reputation / Re: Multiple accounts (Two Accounts Linked) on: February 06, 2023, 04:23:59 AM
Move this thread to reputation board. You can do so by clicking "move topic" at the bottom left of the page.

There is no forum rule against multiple accounts, but most campaigns make it against their rules. If they have both joined any if sub canoaignsz then leave a negative tag on the account with this thread as the reference.
1203  Economy / Reputation / Re: Paid fake Trustpilot 5 star review seller. on: February 06, 2023, 04:18:48 AM
If one is trying to choose if a website is legitimate or not, trustpilot is not the solution. If the website is open source, you can verify the codes and if you don't know how to, check on the GitHub channel. If it's closed source, check the date the website was created and check for scam discussions around it on different platforms. Also check for variations to the web link.

we can tag this user, but that will not prevent him from coming next month with a new account and offering this service again. Even in spite of negative tags, it does not have to prevent interested parties from buying his services.
As you pointed out, people buying fake reviews for their platform would not be bothered if the user selling it has a negative tag on the forum.
1204  Other / Meta / Re: QR Code Forum Avatars? on: February 06, 2023, 04:09:52 AM
I just tried, and before I even take the picture my default (Samsung) camera app shows this:
Samsung outdoes iOS here, cause I just tried with my default (iPhone) camera and was asked to choose if I wanted to open the app in duckduckgo browser without any other information given.
Clicking on that redirects me directly to the browser.

It poses little risk if one can easily read the url before clicking on the link in the qr code.
1205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The future of CEX and no privacy world, will you still become an anonymous? on: February 05, 2023, 02:48:12 PM
This is the present scenario in cryptocurrency exchanges and not the future. Centralized exchanges already can request any additional information and freeze your funds at their discretion and also keep certain amount of reserve funds in case of losses.

So what's your choice? are you okay to give your KYC and trust to centralized exchange where they will offer insurance, protect from mistakenly transaction, transparent and you have a right to report to the court when the exchange done wrong. Or you will still become your own bank and privacy oriented, even it will make you harder to enjoy 100% anonymity from future no privacy world? Smiley
I would rather be my own bank, cause that's the purpose of an alternate currency. It gives me control over my assets and I can transact without authorization from a 3rd party.
Centralized exchanges also has lots of cons attached to it and you don't have protection from mistaken transactions or transparency. They also own your coins as you do not have the private keys.

I do not realy understand why people are so crazy about this privacy. If you don't have anything super secret why to hide?
• My data is valuable and is highly prone to being abused,
• I do not want my data circulating on the dark web or being resold to other platforms,
• I would want my Bitcoin transactions to be pseudo anonymous to prevent being tracked.
1206  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A good way to start this journey? on: February 05, 2023, 01:01:03 PM
Does it feels right to find projects base on the numbers of good partnerships they had?
No.
There is no single criterion with which you can judge what project is worth investing in. Partnerships with reputable establishments is a plus, but not a determinant of a good project.

Do partnerships means the project can easily become successful?
No. The only determinant of the success of a project is it's utility in day to day life. You can surmise that if a reputable company is willing to associate with a particular project, then they have seen prospects in it, but that doesn't mean it's going to be successful.
1207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Burning feature is not utility on: February 05, 2023, 12:55:06 PM
• Burning tokens,
• Locking tokens for a certain period of time after purchase,
• Offering extra tokens for staking your purchased tokens

These are all ways projects use to try and look profitable and attractive to investors and attract new ones. It doesn't offer practical benefits and would not make a shit project any better in the long run.
In a time where there are so many projects, anything to stand out from the rest is a welcome idea.
1208  Other / Meta / Re: Resetting password with Secret question will still lock account? on: February 05, 2023, 07:20:57 AM
because some time ago I still have a secret question in my account. after reading the thread. finally I decided to delete my secret
You do not have to delete your secret question if you're sure no one can guess the answer.
The lock feature when you try to recover your account using the secret question option comes in handy if someone hacks your account and you want it locked while you try to recover it through the admins.

No onenca use the feature to access your account and worse case scenario is you locking yourself out, which you can easily undo if you have a staked address or still have access to the email used to open the account.
1209  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To know more about bitcointalk on: February 05, 2023, 07:04:44 AM
Rather than posting 6 urls which link back to the same topic, just different sections, you could simply just post the link to the forum rules.

This thread is redundant cause the link to the forum rules and the other 2 are stickies on different boards and all users can easily read them.
1210  Other / Meta / Re: QR Code Forum Avatars? on: February 03, 2023, 03:28:22 PM
I was wondering would you use your phone to scan QR code that is added as Avatar image in Bitcointalk forum profile?
Depends largely on the member wearing the avatar. If it's a reputable one, then I could be curious enough to want to know where it leads to.
It is recommended that they also include the URL in their personal text or a short description of the website.

Would it be against any forum rules if people started to add QR codes in their posts, and should we report QR codes that are directing to suspicious or scam website?
If it's a reply made in someone else's thread, it's against forum rules and if you suspect it to be promoting suspicious links, it should be reported.
1211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My step to promote bitcoin (Part 2). on: February 03, 2023, 03:15:58 PM
Good work putting in honest effort to grow adoption of Bitcoin, which becomes more important as several governments are becoming more restrictive in how they let people use fiat currencies, makeng regulations stricter to try and boost economies.

The effectiveness of your approach is yet to be seen and depends on the location it is placed, the mindset of the people there as well as how clear the sticker information is.
The "Scan to learn more" text is a bit small and would be missed by some, also people are not used to scanning websites to access them and could feel they are being scammed in some way.
Don't be in a hurry to make any changes however, and if the endeavor is too expensive, you can feel free to pause or discontinue it. Anyone with access to a movie device would come across Bitcoin one way or another.
1212  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: am now a bitcoin investor(first purchase) on: January 31, 2023, 08:59:42 PM
i haven't yet move it but I  was thinking to move it to my a wallet i downloaded @trust wallet, i have already written my seed phrase down in a secure and safe place but i wasn't too sure if this wallet would be good or if it a non custodial wallet. So i haven't moved it yet,
Trustwallet is "non custodian", but is closed source and being so, users cannot verify the code being used or check if trustwallet pregenerates keys, which means they have full access to funds stored.

except* for the case about  a campaign manager complaining on how his electrum wallet was compromised and he lost almost  4000$ worth of people money meant for payment so am still confused on the exact wallets to safeguard my coins.
The issue with the campaign manager is an isolated incident and does not reflect any flaw on how electrum works. It was most likely an error made by the holder which led to the loss.
1213  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto YouTubers are all financial advisors on: January 31, 2023, 08:51:20 PM
Aren't they supposed to keep their financial advice to themselves if they don't want to be a financial advisor? Yeah, I think the perfect way to stay away from been a financial advisor is to keep your ideas to yourself, don't say a word about it.
...
Oh, I almost forget, it pays to be a YouTuber, you need a niche to talk about per se,
You have the question and the answer.
YouTubers and "influencers" are paid to shill projects to their audience and hope they buy into it. And you don't assume someone to be a financial advisor cause they made a couple of videos talking about the potential outcome of an investment. On this forum price speculation is talked about a lot, and we discuss what the future of Bitcoin is going to be, that doesn't make the users here advisors, does it?

You can't expect people to stop doing what they profit from, you can only advice investors to do their own research.
1214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: competing with CBDC's on: January 31, 2023, 08:34:46 PM
Bitcoin = long term storage
PoP network protocol = living network = daily digital transaction medium

Bitcoin + PoP = fully decentralized transaction ecosystem completely out of central control
Bitcoin is already a fully decentralized ecosystem which is out of the control of central authority. It doesn't need to be tweaked to improve how it works.

I also see no purpose of competing with CBDCs or how this your proposition could actually rival them. CBDCs are government backed and designed to serve as an alternative to the native fiat, creating a protocol does not compete with that.
1215  Other / Meta / Re: I am login at forum but forget password on: January 31, 2023, 08:26:04 PM
"I forgot my wallet password and did not keep any backups, what should I do?"
That's similar to what you're asking here.

The forum tries as much as possible to mimick how bitcoun operates in privacy and autonomy. You are mean to back up your passwords, so you can always access your account. You can also use a throwaway email provider when creating your account.

You can safely create a new account since you were not banned (presumably) and learn how to properly secure your account.
1216  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto child savings account on: January 31, 2023, 08:15:54 PM
You can create a wallet address for them on a hardware wallet or airgapped device and send Bitcoins regularly to it. You can also intimate your spouse of your plan and teach them how to work around cryptocurrencies if they are not savvy, so they can always access the funds should anything happen to you and still fulfill the purpose.

I'll be depositing funds in their accounts regularly, which will keep sitting there for about 6-10 years, so I'll be looking to accumulate some sort of interest during that period. What options should I consider for this?
This would require some sort of staking on a centralized platform. This comes with the risks that you are not in control of the funds and the platform can fold, seize or freeze the funds or get hacked.
If you're going to invest in a decentralized asset, you should not shirk the responsibility that comes with safeguarding the assets.
1217  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: am now a bitcoin investor(first purchase) on: January 31, 2023, 08:08:12 PM
Great to see more Nigerians getting into Bitcoin and even more impressive that you actually did your own research before deciding to invest.
Hope you've moved your funds out of the exchange (cause I assume it's a centralized one you exchanged with)? You should use a non custodian wallet for storage of your bitcoins to give you full control of your funds.

so i sold somethings in my place that are not of value to me again and started my own bitcoin investment journey.
Do not rush your journey into Bitcoin. It's alright to sell things that are not of value, but always be careful when investing to avoid risking more than you can afford to lose.
1218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Every thing are Controlled by Time, Even the Bitcoin Price . on: January 31, 2023, 08:02:10 PM
The Bitcoin Time Machine will determine the price of Bitcoin in the future.  Currently few Bitcoin whales are controlling and manipulating Bitcoin price.
Bitcoin is not some random shitcoin that a few whales can manipulate and determine the price.
It's distribution is not as unequal to allow a few individuals to control the price.

I think, all the Bitcoin exchange should be regulated to only make the sale for other Bitcoin owner without them to transfer Bitcoin in the exchange.
Why not start by using the exchanges that allow direct P2P transactions? There are a couple of such decentralized exchanges like bisq and Hodlhodl.
Centralized exchanges would not change their privacy policy.
1219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Life Insurance on: January 30, 2023, 09:51:41 PM
<snip>
Creating a treasure map or subscribing to some centralized service would not be that much easier than following a couple of guidelines to set up a locked transaction for a determined period of time and giving the seedphrase to the receiving wallet to the person you want to get the bitcoins when the transaction is confirmed.

One just actually needs to set out to do it
1220  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice needed on how to reunite a trust wallet. on: January 30, 2023, 09:23:18 PM
Did you advice your colleague on backups at any time in the past? If she did not keep any backups to her seedphrase, then it's impossible to recover the address.

She already made a couple of mistakes;
• Storing your crypto assets on a device you carry around. It's better kept on an airgapped device, which is never connected to the internet and not carried around.
• Not backing up your wallet securely.
• Not using an open source wallet.
