Todays current situation for Luna all my works just stop and cant belive whats going on with this scenario!!  Lost too much in my life savings!! Now thinking about invest on btc at least there is no chance like 98% dump at least stable coin looking to more risky!!
The LUNA situation was just all-round bad for its investors and it happened so fast, even though I understand people will say, Do not invest that which you cannot afford to lose, Nobody has to lose the kind of investment that has been lost under Terra-Luna and I don't know how investors will or can be compensated for this.
422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is scarcer than gold. on: May 18, 2022, 07:52:28 PM
I don’t know which formula is used by those who give estimates of how much gold is still underground, but I hope it’s not something similar to what led us to speculate that 3-4 million BTC was lost. By this, I mean that this number is the result of an analysis that concluded that all the BTC that did not move x years was lost.

However, gold is hard to move around, weighs a lot, it's hard to sell or buy, it's not practicable.

It depends on the quantities, but I don't see a problem in transporting 1 kg of gold or a little more than that, it fits in an ordinary handbag - and it's worth 2 BTC at the moment. As for selling gold, I personally have no problem with that, there is a physical store on every corner that buys gold, or I can even sell gold by sending it by a special courier service to a company that buys gold.

Of course, I have no doubt that Bitcoin has its practicality when it comes to storage and transfer, but not everything is so impractical when it comes to gold. Still, I speak from my personal experience, it may be really difficult for someone to buy or sell gold, but for some, the problem is how to buy or sell Bitcoin - I have witnessed this many times.
I do have to agree with you in the explanation for Gold. In my location, there is virtually a store to buy and sell Gold in almost every major market and access to it is easy hence the continual trading of Gold by many that do believe it is easier to access than Bitcoin and don't still understand the benefit of it. That said, those that understand what Bitcoin is and how much difference there is for it in terms of Investment over a number of years will surely want to go the route of Bitcoin instead of Gold.
423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you buying the dip? on: May 17, 2022, 11:13:30 AM
Major cryptocurrencies have been on a downfall this past week, as investors lost confidence on Terra (LUNA). Bitcoin, as well as, Ethereum, Cardano, and several other "blue chip" coins are being traded at a discount these days. This could be a huge buying opportunity before prices bounce back to their original levels. If Bitcoin is predicted to reach $100k, then imagine how altcoins will rise in price. Buying the dip might be the best thing you could do right now. If you're into crypto for the long haul, you'll know what I'm talking about.

That said, I'm curious to know if you're buying the dip? If so, I'd like to know which cryptocurrencies do you think are worth the investment for the long term and why? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley
I would say again that for the first time since I came into cryptocurrency trading/Investment, I am less worried about the current market dips or bear market if I may say we are cos I have witnessed every other Bear market or dips since 2017 ATh and knows that once you are invested in the right coins, you are good. So, still have my investment in HODL and would buy more if there are extra funds during this dip particularly BNB, and ETH for Alts.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you knew the founder of Bitcoin, would you still use it? on: May 16, 2022, 01:42:19 PM
Honestly, I am very obsessed with this question. We don't know who is behind the bitcoin, at the moment Satoshi Nakamoto is just a made-up thing in our head. At the moment we think that he is a savior and helps us to gain financial freedom and protect our privacy but let's imagine some bad case scenarios for interesting discussion. At the moment, Satoshi has around 1 million bitcoin.

What if it was created by one of the worst person ever? What if he wants to make us dependent on bitcoin as much as possible and one day he comes, sells all his coins and causes financial catastrophe.
What if it was created by persons like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, etc. These are the people who don't respect their customers' privacy.

What if there is one specific, concrete country behind the scenes? Bitcoin is a mixture of the cyber and financial worlds, this is the greatest power stack to own.

The inspiration for me to create this thread was this video.
P.S. I don't agree with Dan Pena, I would even say that if he knew who was behind the bitcoin, as he says, he couldn't sleep at night or could sleep forever.
How many crypto projects do we know the owners and are still good investments and have been used today, BNB, ETH, and many more. Knowing the creator does not take away from what the project stands for IMO, even if we knew who Satoshi was from back then and Bitcoin was adopted like the way it is now I don't think it would have made any difference. What happens if Satoshi had other Bitcoin wallets down the years that people can't associate with him/her/them Huh as the case may be and is been traded to date that we don't know?
425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why no one creates bitcoin v2 to allow new users to join the bitcoin wagon? on: May 15, 2022, 04:08:05 PM
It's because it doesn't really make sense to have a Bitcoin ver 2.0 and start from scratch. What will it accomplished?.

And that's why we have this forks that you have mentioned, and as you can see neither anyone of the becoming successful as BTC.

What about billions of people who missed the bandwagon? Not to mention 4 million or so Lost BTC.
True but like most other things in this world, everyone cannot have access to or acquire everything they want because of the number in which there are produced and the same with Bitcoin and it could be that if Bitcoin wasn't as limited as it is, it wouldn't have had the value it has and it wouldn't make any sense to have a 2.0 cos it wouldn't be Bitcoin anyways.
426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is everyone that got in late last year in the red now ? How bad is it ? on: May 15, 2022, 04:00:43 PM
I'm still in the green...more than double my initial investment. But then I got in nearly 2 years ago.
Most definitely, most people that invested back about 2 years ago should still be in greens except they invested in projects that are dead but if not,  I believe so. I believe Bitcoin was still trading around $5k+ then so you can Imagine those that invested then and are still HODLing till now, this is why HODL is key for major coins.
427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin a safe haven??? on: May 14, 2022, 04:50:52 PM
I believe that bitcoin is a completely safe investment option. But, I would say that bitcoin is a rather unstable currency that can bring both losses and profits.
Losses only if you sell and or if you are leveraging. just as @FlamingFingers just mentioned, Investors should learn how to invest for the long term instead of aiming for quick gains, especially with Bitcoin and we know that the market cannot always be upwards. Imagine you investing to HODL for the next 10years? somehow it is a safe heaven.
428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Coping Strategy for Bitcoin Price Crash on: May 14, 2022, 04:14:17 PM
There's no gainsaying that there's panic everywhere. Some people have likened the 2022 Bitcoin and crypto market crash to watching their house getting burnt down. And at this moment, it doesn't matter whether you invested $100 or $1000 in the market, everyone is feeling the heat. Today, I woke up feeling sober. I was thinking deeply about how much stress, anxiety, depression, and the toll the recent market crash has on the mental health of those who in the crypto community. I also thought about what strategies people are using to cope with the loss.

For me, practicing gratitude is my number one go-to-coping strategy. So, every morning, I look in the mirror and say aloud three(3) things that I am most grateful for.

Today 12th May 2022, I am most grateful for:

1- The gift of Life: So long as I am alive, I have hope for recovery, regardless of how much I lost.

2- Family: I have received so much love and support from them in past few days.

3- Roof over my head: I have lost so much but at least, I still have a roof over my head.

What are your strategies for coping with the Bitcoin and crypto market crash?
True that and most importantly, I have been in this space for a while and after some of the market dips I have witnessed, I had somehow gained more confidence that regardless of how dip the market has gone, it will always recover and this is a fact so I have learned to be less stressed about it. Bitcoin is the best crypto you will want to invest in it is just that most investors stall haven't come to terms with its volatile nature hence the panic.

429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Not all hacked on exchanges are real on: May 01, 2022, 08:13:56 AM
The perfect theft in crypto is claiming that a project or an exchange is hacked when its all an inside job, the reason why I think about this is I have never heard about other top exchanges helping a exchange that just got hacked to track their funds and get some back at least but if it's a sole hacker from outside they will track him or them down, why is that?.
Unless you have proof that such and such exchange hack was an inside job, then all of the exchange hacks have been perpetrated by outsiders and some have been apprehended and I don't think it is the job of one exchange to help trace the hackers of other exchanges when they have their own to protect but the law enforcement responsible for such acts have proven themself in the past.
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sending Crypto to the wrong address on: May 01, 2022, 08:00:20 AM
We're developing something to reduce human error in crypto transactions, especially those in which some mistake was made when writing the receiver address.
Can you guys help us have a greater perception on the user side?

  • Did it happen to you?
  • How comfortable are you every time you transfer to a remote address?
  • Would you be more comfortable using a helper?
  • What do you use today to mitigate this risk?

Thanks

I understand that once a transaction is sent there is no reversal to that transaction so are you saying you are developing something that can reverse a sent transaction? The only thing would be for you to check and cross-check your receiving address that it is correct and that you are sending to the right network and coin address, not BTC-WBTC Grin and so forth.
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATM Installed in Mexican Senate Building !!! on: May 01, 2022, 07:48:06 AM
The Mexican Senate building now has its first Bitcoin ATM, which has been deployed by ChainBytes in partnership with Axolotl Bitcoin, according to a Wednesday press release.

The installation is supposed to bolster Mexican Senator Indira Kempis’s initiative to make Bitcoin an official currency in Mexico.

Kempis, an ardent cryptocurrency proponent, believes that Bitcoin brings financial freedom and inclusion. She hopes that lawmakers will be able to familiarize themselves with the largest cryptocurrency.

ChainBytes CEO Eric Grill claims that the installation of the first Bitcoin ATM in the Senate building is a historic moment for the country.

Her effort to make Bitcoin legal tender is unlikely to succeed. As reported by U.Today, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador definitely ruled out adopting Bitcoin as a means of payment.

Source of News:
https://u.today/bitcoin-atm-installed-in-mexican-senate-building

What do you think about this news..?

So this can be classified as a good thing for Bitcoin but as I read through the article I saw this

Quote
The installation is supposed to bolster Mexican Senator Indira Kempis’s initiative to make Bitcoin an official currency in Mexico.

So my question is, Wouldnt it rather be better for Bitcoin to just be a legal tradable cryptocurrency in a country where people can trade it freely and spend it in transactions i.e exchange for goods/services than to make it an official currency making institutes like the World Bank
and IMF mounting pressure on that country? I am Pro Bitcoin but not an expert but believe the first option might be better, just an opinion.
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is your bitcoin hero (excluding Satoshi)? on: May 01, 2022, 07:25:07 AM
Who is your bitcoin hero?

Who do you look up to in this space, or think is the most amazing person within the bitcoin world?

I think Sirius - Martti Malmi is mine. Here's a kid still in college who risked for a venture that he wouldn't know would work. He was willing to be open with others across the world. He lost bitcoin trying to be honest, as far as I can tell, with others when running the first exchanges.

Friends and neighbors who introduce bitcoin
For me, I will give it to all of them that have contributed one way or the other to make and kept this technology moving when most people back then didn't believe in it but they persisted. Looking back at Bitcoin History, all mentioned here made their mark in the space and it will be difficult not to recognize that, and @aoluain  is also right, what about my colleague that was the first person to introduce Bitcoin to me? They are all Heros in my view.

433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the future of crypto 10 years from now. on: May 01, 2022, 07:03:47 AM
Bitcoin is the best coin in crypto and as the years passed by there are a lot of coins (altcoins) that is more profitable in terms of investment on both short and long term process, in you're future sights and speculation of btc based on some good promising projects that is now scattering and has a posibility to move to next level in the near future, Can there will be a coin that can manage to surpass btc 10 years from now?
Manage to surpass Bitcoin in terms of what? adoption or in terms of price/coin? Even Ethereum which can be considered the best Als at the moment is still way behind in price/coin however, since you are most focused on gains on investment in the short term, we could say that most investors have little capital and would prefer investing in some Alts which might likely be more profitable but that's it, nothing else can be compared to Bitcoin.
434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Your Kids Aware Of Bitcoin? Teach Them. on: April 30, 2022, 08:23:57 PM
In my opinion, up-to-date economic information should be given in schools from an early age. As children grow up, they can draw an economic life plan accordingly. This applies not only to bitcoin, but to the entire field of economics.
I think the economic aspect of it is being done already in every school I must say but I believe that Bitcoin and the technology behind it are important at a certain level or stage in our children's education because really it should be considered as a financial wonder because, how many time have they "the Government" try to bring it down? it's still here and getting even bigger by adoption and something like this should be studied all around.
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin continue to have the same effect on alts? on: April 30, 2022, 05:32:15 PM
What do y'all think? Will BTC price movement continue to have the same effect on alts price in like 10 years? 20 years maybe? Let's hear some expert opinions.
It is hard to guess but however, but I would believe that Bitcoin dominance will still remain even in 10 - 20 years from now because I believe as other crypto projects ALTS develop, Bitcoin would too and possibly more adoption and because I don't see any Alts overcoming Bitcoin anytime some.
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where Bitcoin has been googled the most? on: April 30, 2022, 05:21:29 PM
Damn, I never expected to not see countries that are very pro bitcoin in this list specially El Salvador. It seems like the people of El Salvador really aren't that curious with bitcoin and may have been just forced to adapt because of the government. With this, we can easily understand that mass adoption cannot be forced. Only when bitcoin and the other altcoins don't get talked crap about by influential people will we see a genuine increase on the number of mass adoption around the world. And only in such conditions should governments try to slowly legalize bitcoin and not as fast as El Salvador which has caused a failure.
I don't believe the people of El Salvador were forced to adopt Bitcoin. They have the option to use their local Fiat as they do with Bitcoin and if you say they they are continually making research to understand Bitcoin more which leads to what is presented in the chat, I'd agree and as for Nigeria, we do know that the Government has not been able to provide the enabling economy for the ever-growing youths to thrive hence the surge into cryptocurrency so no surprise there to see Nigerian on the top of that list.
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $75 million Seized Bitcoin to be used for donations on: April 30, 2022, 04:54:55 PM
                                            NOTICE
PLEASE LET THE DISCUSSION BE LIMITED/FOCUSED ON THE NATURE OF THE DONATION AND TRY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID DISCUSSING THE POLITICAL SENSITIVITY OF ANY WAR IN ANY REGION.

It's no longer news how some countries around the world have seized large amounts of Bitcoin from proceeds of crime and legal battles which forced the owners of those Bitcoin to forfeit their Bitcoin to the government, and the government looking for better ways to spend the money that will have a direct impact on humanity, this has to lead the Finland government to donate $75 million worth of Bitcoin seized to support citizens of war troubled country and this has forced many in the online community to commend the action of the government as the importance of giving back to the society, proceed of crimes since most of those seized asset is either from hackers and money launderers who have stolen from the public.
Source: https://news.bitcoin.com/finland-to-donate-millions-of-dollars-from-sale-of-seized-bitcoin-to-ukraine
No question this is going to be a good gesture from the Finland government since the Ukrainian government on the other hand did already receive crypto donations in the past during the cause of the war. I believe this will also go further in helping the Ukrainian government with the much-needed funds and hope to hear most of those seized funds from other criminal players used in another good manner.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Saved Me. on: April 29, 2022, 01:27:54 PM
To my surprise, the little I learnt, I decided to start with 2,000NGN as that was all I had.

This not true as 2000 NGN i just $3.4 with the selling rate at Binance #584 and believe many exchangers has set limitation of trading, mostly Binance is $10+ so i don't know how one can trade with 3.4 and become that rich or successful. I can easily be convinced by buying and hold maybe you started with just NGN 2000 as the case maybe, you kept on topping the BTC in your wallet before the price break out. yeah this is a genuine reason.
You are the one assuming that Grin that would have been a better explanation of the story but the OP clearly said he traded and from what we all know just as you have pointed out the minimum trade amount allowed by most exchanges, 2kNGN wouldn't cut it unless he bought from someone on P2P but again he traded and triple his previous losses. Don't we all just love a good Bitcoin story  Wink
439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The beginning of Fitness projects hype on: April 29, 2022, 01:11:04 PM
True, a friend showed me on he is engaged right now though he didn't spend anything on buying any coin just downloaded the app and walk,
SweatCoin (SWEAT) which I checked out on coingecko to see any info on them but this
Quote
It pays to walk. Healthier planet. Healthier, wealthier you.
Sweatcoin is a free app which rewards your daily steps with a new-generation currency you can spend on cool products, donate to charity or convert into crypto.
Why? Because when you look after your health, you benefit society. You are more productive. You help save $billions in healthcare. Your movement has value: you deserve a share in it.
I think we might see more of these fitness projects in the near future
440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How low can BTC go this time around on: April 29, 2022, 12:58:56 PM
The reason why people are able to buy BTC for 3500$ was because of the covid panic of 2020 if not I don't believe that BTC could ever get that cheap, now how low do you think BTC can get to in the next bear market? It will be stupid to expect BTC to get down to a very deep price range again.

Why blaming covid for the down trend of Bitcoin?
I would rather say it’s because of the Russian-Ukraine war.
Also seeing the current scenario, i don’t think Bitcoins will fall below 35k USD.
And if you also see past few weeks, Bitcoin is struggling in between 35k USD to 47k USD each week.
So it’s a clear signal that, when BTC is at 35k usd or close to it, but as much Bitcoins as possible, as at the end of the week, Bitcoins will surely give a profit.

I believe that the market has been on a downward trend since Nov 10 2021 if you check the chart and the Russian v Ukrain war started 24 Fed 2022. We could even say that after hitting the lowest price of about $33k around Jan. 24 2022 from the last ATH of $69k+ back in 2021, the market has even risen a bit in a wide time frame daily chart instead of the minute's chart, however, if something really goes out of place, we could see a $32kish BTC price again.
