I know this post is late but just returned from my excursion
to totality land. The internet was very spotty up there, so didn’t bother
posting till now back home.
This was using a Canon on a tripod.
The real experience is the moment of totality when one takes off the
eclipse shades and sees it in all it’s glory. 4 minutes of mind numbing awesomeness. Hard to put to words.
We cranked up the “2001 A Space Oddessy” opening theme at
the moment of totality. (“turn it up louder bro!!”)  I even got weirdly emotional.
F**king absolutely amazing life experience.

GO BITCOIN

Great stuff right there!
Once-in-a-lifetime-experience (just like Bitcoin)
Next time (LOL) you got to turn down the exposure for an even more awesome ecliptic shot.
But the photo is as good as a trigger for remembering the experience, anytime.

I'm OOM (Out Of Merit), so have +1 WOsMerit from me, at least!

Tip: Google on explanations for solar eclipse by flat earthers, if you need some good laughs  Grin

I gave him one for you.

424  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered mining only during sunlight and without batteries on: April 10, 2024, 10:23:59 PM
I just thought about this and would like to know if I can just switch my miner on and off and only mine during sun hour's, or will that not work at all? I could ask chatgpt but I'm a little old-school and want a human answer.

I don't know how the pools evolved over time. I guess I'm not getting any reward (tx fees, mining reward, etc.) if I am not connected 24/7?

That is actually sad/bad and holding back decentralisation and indie miners, because the resources needed to become sustainable are

Electricity and Internet. Both is still really expensive, especially in regions that actually have sun.

Bitcoin still does not have it's inception in the places needed the most, because there is no way you can spin on a ASIC miner (even if you could afford or get it gifted), and then have a stable and affordable internet connection and free electric (only day time).

But if we can do mining on day, get paid, have starlink or something, we might get there. I'm definitely here to try and it would serve Bitcoin extremely well if the community manages more decentralisation through home-nodes and miners and maybe a new internet protocol on top like threefold is doing it.

nicehash
viabtc

would work for you

So I have no way it get it back? I am very amateur...I was just trying to receive the bitcoin and got an error message saying that are was already receiving and said hold down receive and there was nothing listed. I stupidly shared my key I guess by going to what looked like an extremely trusted site to validate it.

427  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My single Phase 235 volt T21 on: April 10, 2024, 09:53:22 PM
I am very ambitious about these T21's

I purchased an alpha miner psu.

It can do 7000 watts it is meant for liquid cooling I intend to

A) mod it for air cooling
B) use a buck boost transformer to boost volts to 255

add this setup to the T21 the psu can do 300 volts
the transformer can do 7000 watts.

in theory the t21 can over clock to 230 th
in theory the alpha psu can provide the watts needed.

This will take until late may as the next 2 t21's come in may.

I am currently 100% in altcoins and wondering when we can expect the next big alt season?

I plan to hold all my altcoins till this alt season when alt coins are performing better than Bitcoin and then start putting profits into Bitcoin.

My guess is Jan 2025
429  Economy / Speculation / Re: Top 20 days for Bitcoin on: April 10, 2024, 08:55:48 PM
got close today 67,494.

lets argue that is the correct low.

it missed by under 15 dollars

the real question is do we swing up hard and no dance of a dump.

we are certainly right at the low point easy peasy.
430  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to spend a 100k right on BTC mining farm on: April 10, 2024, 07:09:28 PM
100k and in your home?

the power specs mean everything.

My home is too costly

14 cents in the winter 17 cents in the summer.

I am allowed a 200amp service single phase 2 pole  120  which means I could do 48kwatts maxed temp.

Reality I can do 24kwatts to mine the rest runs the home and overhead.

24kwatts is 8 bitmain L7 with one or 2 of them set to low setting

cost is maybe 50k for the miners 10k for wires and 2 k for fans.

If you are USA based maybe you can do  a 400 amp service which is 98000 watts.

of which you could use 50000 watts  or 16 miners

that would be 6 L7 = 36k and 10 t21's say 36k so 72k and 14k for wiring along with 4k for fans.

If you want to do that much mining  you want a house with an out building.

Wrong direction.  Angry

Serious drop today.

67.7k which is a reaction to inflation rising which means rates are not going to drop.

Well

Lol at the headlines. Inflation is .1% above expectations.
And when you sell bitcoin because inflation is higher, you really don't get it.

yep it looks like I will be getting some cheap corn today or tomorrow.

Here Are The Drivers Behind The Bitcoin Price Crash To $68,000

Scott Matherson by Scott Matherson  April 10, 2024 in Bitcoin Reading Time: 3 mins read

Bitcoin has again experienced a price decline since briefly climbing above the $72,000 mark on April 8. This price dip is believed to be due to a couple of factors, which no doubt present a bearish outlook for the flagship crypto.

Inflation Data Expected To Come In Hot
The March Consumer Price Index (CPI) data is scheduled to be released on April 10. Some market experts predict that the report will show a rise in overall inflation. This could lead to the Federal Reserve taking a hawkish stance on interest rates, negatively impacting Bitcoin’s price and the broader crypto market.

This would explain why Bitcoin’s price has declined lately, as crypto investors remain on the sidelines ahead of the CPI report. However, if the inflation figures come in favorable, this could restore investors’ confidence in the economic situation and provide a much-needed bullish outlook for the crypto market.

Also, considering that January and February’s inflation data exceeded expectations, it is necessary to highlight what last month’s data exceeding expectations could mean in the long term. So far, the Fed has continued to hold interest rates steady at about 5.3%, and there was even optimism at the beginning of the year that there could be rate cuts at some point this year.

However, with inflation continuing to stay well above the Central Bank’s target of 2%, there is a growing feeling that they might be forced to take drastic measures at some point. That is ultimately not good for Bitcoin’s price, especially since different crypto analysts gave bullish predictions partly based on their assumption that there would be several rate cuts this year.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs Are Back In The Red
The Spot Bitcoin ETFs have also contributed to Bitcoin’s recent decline. These investment funds experienced a net outflow on April 8 and 9, leading to a significant Bitcoin dump on the market. Specifically, these outflows came from the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), which recorded an outflow of $303.3 million and $154.9 million on April 8 and 9, respectively.

Meanwhile, the other Spot Bitcoin ETFs have not recorded impressive inflows during this period, which shows their demand has slowed. For context, 6 out of the 10 Spot Bitcoin ETFs (excluding GBTC) recorded zero inflows on April 9, while 5 out of 10 recorded zero inflows on April 8. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) also recorded a relatively low inflow of $21.3 million that day.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at around $69,300, down over 2% in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

good read

434  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano 3 [unofficial thread] on: April 10, 2024, 12:25:53 PM
I already have mine and I have decided to leave it running at Medium speed. I find the high speed forced, the consumption increases noticeably, the fan noise increases considerably and the power supply gets too hot. Low speed is inefficient.
The Medium speed consumes 90W, provides 3.3 Terahash and is practically silent.

So under 30 watts a th on medium.

@JJG: I know that you just use $6.66K as an example, but that hardly amounts to much in US...basic level living and not even on the two coasts.
A median household income in US is 74.6K/year.
https://www.fool.com/the-ascent/research/average-us-income/

Of course, when used as an add-on, it would provide a boost, but i don't think many on WO would agree that it is a sweet deal after many years of ups and downs.

THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM.

If middle class has five tiers

1 highest middle class
2
3
4
5 lowest middle class

I am a 3 or a 4.

My wife and I take home 7.3k in pension monthly  it is good money, rising costs eat into it.

If we want to take home 10k monthly she could make her 401k an annuity.

But the scale of homes and taxes where I live are costly.
We will likely move to a nicer place in a different state.

I could lower my taxes by 1000 a month get a bigger house and have enough left over money to buy a btc maybe 2.

We are older 67 and 68
her lungs were covid damaged
I have diabetes. So we would like to spend the next 5,10,15 years left having fun.

So spending btc may happen for us.

OK, so are you suggesting 10:1 (i.e. 0.01 to 0.001 BTC) or 4:1 (0.01 to 0.0025 BTC)?

As per my comments above and previously, I'm not sure this is a sensible bet on any terms, but maybe we can agree something.

I am not even sure if we understand each other enough to make a bet.. since I said that I would not be wanting to make any bet that merely reflects what I believe the odds to be in the event that someone else is proclaiming odds that I consider to be way outrageous as compared to my odds, so I would want to get surplus out of that.. so that is why I suggested the possibility of entering into a 100:1 bet (or was it 99 to 1, since you were proclaiming 1000:1 or 999:1... .. yet originally I said that I thought that it was 10:1 and now I am more in the ballpark of thinking that the odds are getting to be 4:1, but why would I enter a bet in which you got all the surplus especially since you are thinking the odds are 999 to 1?.. .. but yeah, if I say 99:1 and you say that all the surplus is on my end and I need to go back to 10:1.. since I would still be getting surplus since I really believe the odds to be closer to 4:1..

Anyhow, I would think that each of us would want to have surplus on each of our ends, since you would be more hesitant to enter into a bet that is closer to your true beliefs of 999 to 1, just like I am reluctant to enter into a bet that is closer to my current beliefs of 4:1.. .. which maybe in some sense I am admitting that they might be a bit higher than what I am tentatively thinking right now... . but yeah, we still may well have to describe it out or figure out numbers if we really were going to enter into a bet.. but you did move away from my real offer of 99:1 and suggest the other two possibilities of 10:1 or 4:1 which surely seems like you are wanting to suck all of the surplus value on my end, which is causing it to be unbettable.. .. so I had ONLY proposed possibly  considering 99:1.. while at the same time, there could be some [potential to negotiate another set of odds, but I had not proposed those lower odds (or is it higher odds that you are wanting to gravitate towards so that you seem to want to get more surplus value out of the situation.

Well, exactly, everyone taking on a bet wants it to be on the most favourable terms possible.  However, as I said before I don't think this is a bet that anyone with any sense would be taking on.  On the underdog side the stake is low and the reward is high but the risk of losing is even higher; conversely on the favourite side the probability of winning is good, but the stake is high and the reward is small.

In truth I am less interested in a bet and much more interested in my opening question - what are your workings - i.e. how are you coming to your estimates?  And are you still thinking that staying above $67,483 is a 1 in 4 chance or are you re-thinking after the fall today?

For what its worth my view is that:
1. we've only been above 67.4k for a few days;
2. even now we are barely sitting above that level;
3. in the last month we've seen 6 days with >$2,500 falls
4. the halving is coming and we usually see a strong dip after the halving;
5. it'll take nearly 80 straight days (I assume 79 now) to clear $67,483 off the top 100 days (and of course just one day will blow it);

So all in my assessment is the chances are very high that we'll dip below $67,483 sometime in the next 79 days.

I'd be interested to hear why your assessment is different.

My thoughts are who cares if it drops under 67.4k the reality is a real bull we need to be over 120k.  The concern is not if we drop to 67k but if we get to 120k before June or July.

Spending from  a 20 btc stash is okay if you are over 70 and have other income. One coin a year till you are ninety or .85 coin a year spending those amounts either way should work.

Especially if you don’t care about descendants.

Spending from a 20 btc stash if you are under 50 needs to be very small spends under 0.5 a year would be good.

Since i engaged in merits numerology tonight...phil is pretty close to 7777 as number 7 is considered "lucky" in the West.
