Putting the finishing touches on the whitepaper. It will be out by Friday, and we will be updating our website and github page to reflect that.
We've also been working on a beta, which is nearly complete. We're looking for people to help us test the early beta, make sure there are no major hiccups before we open the beta to the public. You can be a beta tester on Windows, Linux, and Mac. We strongly prefer that if you join the testing, you have a machine that's online all the time. Closed-beta participants can expect to run into all sorts of juicy and frustrating bugs. Actually, the codebase is very nice and we have a minimally comprehensive test suite. Though you should be prepared for major bugs, I don't think it will be a terrible experience.
If we can get 10-20 machines in the closed test all providing and renting storage, and the closed-beta testers all agree that it's mostly ready for open-beta, we'll open the beta to the general public.
If you are interested in being involved in the closed beta, please message me. There is no financial reward for participating. We expect to be ready for closed beta by the end of November. Open beta will take as long as it takes, but hopefully by the end of the year.
Everything is a command line tool right now. We are in the process of hiring someone to write a front-end (a web client), but I have no idea when it will be ready. Something dirt-simple might be ready by the end of the year, but it might take longer depending on a number of factors.
I'll run beta on Win machine. If you can give me instructions.

+1 for CFB nomination. Also worth noting he's the Chief Dev for JinnLabs, ternary logic processor.

Thanks for the replies guys. But, does anyone else think that it's a bit ridiculous that the message never said anything about having to redeem by a certain deadline? All it said was here's your token. Logically, why would I redeem before the currency is launched???
Agreed, I think the launch info can be a bit ambiguous.

Satoshi might just come out of hiding to kick this guy in the balls.

current price like 1 year ago price. Nxt or BTC? Both are same as 1 year ago.

Making an update since things are taking longer than I would have liked.
We're putting the finishing touches on the whitepaper and releasing it as a draft. It's going to be labelled 'draft' because I want there to be time for one more round of criticism and adjustment before releasing the final version of the whitepaper. I think that the final whitepaper will be released near the end of November.
While we've been working on the whitepaper, we've also been working on a beta, which will be available for all platforms. It's still just a command line tool, but you should be able to provide storage in return for beta-coins, and you should be able to rent storage using beta-coins. The code is currently in a private repo, which is why our commit activity appears to have fallen off entirely. We'll be making the repo public as soon as the beta is finished.
While the beta will be sufficient for doing things, we caution that it IS beta software, and that it hasn't been hardened as much as something like the Nxt code. You will be able to store backups and whatnot over Sia using the beta but we strongly recommend against it. We also strongly recommend against giving the beta-coins any sort of value, because the currency will be in a very vulnerable state. The early beta will not have sianotes. Sianotes will of course be in the 1.0.
I'm hoping to have the beta out before November ends.
Thanks for the update, looking forward to beta.

The FBI can shut it down by arresting the operator, OB is no different. FBI can just arrest the developer of OB, and announce that anyone writing code for OB will be arrested. No developer will touch OB, and without active development, OB is dead in the water.
OB is very different. It's intent has nothing to do with illegal activity. Why is BitTorrent a company operating freely here in the US with no arrests? Doesn't reallly matter. Silkroad has plenty of legal products on it too. As soon as one illegal product show up, and OB developer ignore a cease and desist, then OB will possibly become illegal. Dude, you're not getting it, OB is a platform for others to buy and sell, it isn't hosting anything. Again, look at BitTorrent, I can download a # of things illegally, yet BitTorrent team is a Silicon Valley company with no arrests.

cheap, good time to buy now. If i read that........ one more time. I look at it as cheap transaction fees and less expensive Assets!

Nxtty is huge, and I know some more ambitious projects in stealth-mode now willing to use Nxt Platform for their applications. And after 1.4.0 (monetary system/voting system/pendable transactions) we see a boost around Nxt Platform I guess.
yes, think the same. 1.4.0 opens the door for usefull apps. Will we see SC in 1.4.0?

Very cool, good to see Lith and NeoDice mentioned, both are going to be huge.

Worst case, some highly functional altcoin takes over and BTC's value dwindles to 0.
BTC's network value is almost too large to fail at this point. There is so much investment in BTC that if it fails, all crypto will fail with it. What I would like to see from Sidechains is the ability to 2-way peg current alts to block chain. I think Blockstream should employ someone who's sole purpose is to help Alt's peg to BTC via Sidechain. Imagine having the functionality of Alt's tied to BTC blockchain. Anyway, I'm very excited about Sidechains.

I like sidechians. It can solve a lot of problems. Gavin should be very pro-sidechains. It solves his need for scalability.

And also what will it be like when we do get them. What will people be wearing?, what will music be like? and what technology will we have? Probably by then we will be living under the sea or something. Troll, please go back to Qora, thank you.

Last question: Will it possible to redeem Nemstake from AE in portions during redeem period (3 weeks as I understand)? If I have 1 Nemstake, I send 0,5 Nemstake with NEM account today and then, after 2 weeks, I send second portion of 0,5 Nemstake. If it is possible, then is it possible to redeem both portions to 2 different real NEM accounts? That makes things more complicated for us. I would tend to say no, send it in one piece. Tend to agree with this. But what if nemstake owner splits his stake in two part (different NXT accounts), redeems one part now and another part later? I dont's see solution for it now It will be complicated for devs, I agree, but some clarification would be good. While we have approx. 3 weeks (correct me if I'm wrong), people still will trade Nemstake on AE, maybe making some profits if price go up Also, need some clarification on whether we can send more than 2 NEM Stakes for redemption. It would be nice to get a message from the receiver account stating that the nemstake was received (like a receipt)

Does anyone have insight on the person (whale) holding 225 Nemstakes on NxtAE?
Not a whale, that is a issuer of NEMStake tokens, or tokens that were never redeemed. Thanks. That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure.

Just destroy the unclaimed stakes, have them go to a provably unspendable account right at Genesis block. That automatically raises the value of all other coins.
If you dump the rocket fuel, the rocket will crash. Save them for bounties.
