So far I had no interest in forging because I was busy in doing other things. But, if I want to forge, do I need to keep the client open? If I had several accounts, do I keep them open at the same time?

Lucky for you, forging takes no effort, so you can keep busy with other things.  Basically, you start client, unlock account via browser (enter passphrase), close browser with account still unlocked, keep cmd (client) running and you will be forging.  You have to keep the client running with your account unlocked for approximately 24 hours for the account to start forging, at which point you will see a notice above the most recent generated block telling you how long until you forge next block.

GCInc., are you considering a withdrawal grace period for deposits made before the fees were implemented?

He won't answer you, he's very selective about responses.  I'm dropping Dgex and Nextcoin.org completely, bye.  I suggest NxtCrypto.org  The good people there actually care about the community.

+1, Cryptsy would make a killing adding Nxt, especially with people's current dislike for Dgex.  Just voted.  Please keep posting every few pages and everyone should vote!

All,  I have changed the forums.nxtcrypto.org color scheme

Much better. Now throw the logo up there Smiley

+1 Yes, much better
1467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 04, 2014, 05:10:02 AM
If the forum had the same color scheme as the home page (nxtcrypto.org), that would be ideal.  The green and black is just a little to harsh.  Also, I tried the links and I don't get a different color.

odd, I tried it as a test user and it worked.  Those a 2 blue-ish schemes that sort of resemble the website.

Yeah, tried both links and they go to green black color scheme.

My suggestions:

a) @all frontend developer: please use finally an unified LOGO, COLORS and FONTS/CSS. As for all business... an corporate design is really important for value of brand recognition and trust!! Maybe the designers should use an unique thread for convention!

You should orientate on the style of info.nxtcrypto.org

The header logo of nxtcrypto.org changed again, why? The current (QTBC) one is an typographic horror!

b) @Admin of forums.nxtcrypto.org: Please find an more readable style as like nextcoin.org. Fonts and colors should be more user-friendly!! Maybe migrate to SMF in reason that the most of the crypto members are familiar with that board software. If you want more traffic on you board, do it. Especially now do you have the chance for get new members in reason of the barefaced business policy of DGEX.

c) @Designers: Someone should write an Corporate Design Manual!

We are working on coordinating to where there is a common look between the info/www/forums sites.  A different person manages each one, and they all have other full time jobs.  The forums guy has been on vacation.  We are working on it.

For now can someone please try these modified links to force 2 different styles (other than the green one)

https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/index.php?style=1&sid=a80e2a21db06a6e45ca56cbf4c456d59
or
https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/index.php?style=3&sid=a80e2a21db06a6e45ca56cbf4c456d59

Id prefer to keep phpBB it is EXTREMELY more extensible and powerful

Guys with distibuted storage cant we basically host nxt forums within nxt network? I was thinking about that if you can give writing permissions to a specific files and stuff like that.

Yes, CFB has been requesting that for a little while, not sure if anyone is actually working on that right now.
1470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 04, 2014, 04:09:11 AM
I feel like I foolishly bought some nxt because the nxt client really leaves a lot to be desired. I mean, I think it's awesome that it's not a clone of the bitcoin/litecoin wallet but it is totally flaky. It was a major pain to get it running because the 2 peers it came with never connected and it took me an hour to find a good peerlist. A better peerlist needs to be included in the official release. Also, opening a port in your router is not really part of the instructions and is an issue if this is ever really going to go mainstream. Also, I just tried a GPU miner for MemoryCoin on the computer with the NXT software. The GPU miner crashed my computer and it must have screwed up the blockchain files because I had issues with restarting it. Adding the port and kill password is an odd way to prevent this from happening. If you're not a techie, the learning curve is way to steep for mass adoption in my opinion.

Have faith, there will be several new clients released in the next few weeks, which will include some really awesome features and will be a one click install.  Hold on to that Nxt!

just added to block explorer.

account view: top aliases
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=37

account view: top fee
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=36

account view:  new/latest accounts (reactivated)
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=33

alias: simple searchengine and latest registered aliases
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=50

a q-gram inverted index was planned to ensure fastest
searches even on millions aliases but this would take
some days. so a regex based fullscan table is sufficient
until ~500.000 aliases. the inverted index can be built
later, when the aliases reaches much higher numbers.

peer view:
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=60

not very usefull now but could be used later to rank the most reliable
nodes since the peer's are stored over time with latency, on air time
and block/volume transfer ratio.

Awesome, thanks nexern

All,
What a day again, but at the end, clients popping up, source code released, Wesley was here with new work etc...

Just to remind you all what a great community this is and I want to thank everyone for his great efforts.

We will succeed.

That said:

The only black spot today was dgex and its founder, as I cannot find myself in all what is happening there, and as I cannot accept the dictatorship of one person on the exchange and the forum I will leave the forum nextcoin.org.

I hope many will follow because staying there is supporting his acts and supporting that kind of behavior.
Only the best is good enough for NXT and imo dgex and its founder doesn’t fit in there.

NXT is more than some code and a client, it involves people also, it involves a way of thinking, what happened today with dgex can’t be further away from what NXT stands for. NXT is strong and getting stronger every day, and it will survive without dgex and nextcoin.org.

You can find me on https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/ where I shall maintain 24/7 support and helping people out if they having trouble

I don’t want to split the community but what happened today was a bridge to far and harmed us all, in favor of one.

Gooooooooo NXT
Pin

I will follow you over there, I'm done with Dgex and Nextcoin.org

Is there anyway to calculate total amount of darkNXT in existence?

Walk the blockchain, adding up the balances of accounts that don't have an assigned public key?

But theoretically I can still send Nxt to an account without a public key, in an offline mode.  But that is a good idea, I wonder if Blockchain Explorer can calculate easily.
1474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 11:04:48 PM
DGEX sent my first exchange withdrawal to an incorrect NXT address.  They were supposed to send to 12510982507347853737 (where they did send one withdrawal) but instead sent to 125109250734753737.  The second address is empty in blockchain explorer except for my transaction so I'm guessing it is unused.  Is there any way to get my NXT out of that account?

No. Gone.

this is called darkNXT, we know it exists but it cannot interact with anything, short of cracking the password.

There is no way to get your nxt out of that account unless you know the pass-phrase of that account to access it.
You best bet is to contact DGEX and ask if they can compensate you as it's their mistake.

Perhaps this is why he is missing 800k Nxt.

...
Source code appears to be the work of a super-genius with a strange formatting style

I like that!

From hand optimized large number math operations to peer to peer synchronization with blacklist and hallmarking to hardcoded genesis block with founders acct #s and starting NXT, all included in 6800 lines.
No obvious bugs, feels like trying so solve a rubiks cube, but this cube is a sphere and a triangle at the same time. High level, low level and everything in between all interconnected. This will take a team of experts to fully understand and find the flaws. My guess is that it will be along the lines of allowing tainted data into a validated block by some mechanism like trusting a node that shouldn't be or some such thing.

James

+1, great analysis.

Does anyone see a fundamental reason why nxt is falling on dgex? Transaction fees are against dgex but not against nxt..

People are willing to sell at a lower price.  That is typically how it works.
1479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 04:31:18 PM
That is not right, you can't change fees when you own nearly 90M NxT + X BTC of your customers without giving a timeframe to withdrawal with the old rules.
Would you kindly suggest how to deal with the missing 800k NXT please? Consider the rate of NXT shoots up significantly, not that I would have 70 BTC extra in my pockets to cover it right now.

DGEX offered people free trading of NXT for 5 weeks.

Well, right now your fees are driving the price of Nxt way down.

someone aware of a fundamental reason why nxt is falling?

Perhaps Dgex fees, people are selling.
