It's only great if we actually get a Nxt developer to help him setup.
1402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 13, 2014, 06:46:28 PM
Disagree. Antonopoulos is a popularizer  not a hard-core cryptographer or mathematician. He made a name with Bitcoin and has a vested interest with Bitcoin. I can not expect him to be an independent reviewer at all. It is like asking keiser to testify on monetary policy. Nothing good will come.

Do not know about his education, I somehow had impression he is cryptographer and security expert, but oddly in many videos he admits his realtime maths are poor.
But I really doubt his vested interest would affect his conclusions. I feel he is a man of honour.
So, if he is not cryptographer, he should not be asked to do criptoanalysis. If he is, I think we should consider him.

We need someone with academic credentials. I don't think Antonopoulos would qualify. I don't know enough about Antonopoulos to say anything about his character. He is great at letting people know about bitcoin and decentralized network, but it is the fact that he has a huge interest in Bitcoin's success. By that alone, it does not pass the test of being an independent reviewer.

Al right so far for an independent review of NXT algorithm, we have some suggestions

1. Andrea Antonopoulos
2. I suggest Emin Gün Sirer at Hacking Distributed http://hackingdistributed.com/
3. Another great suggestion by msin is Steve Weis http://saweis.net/

It is better to contact several of them to see who is interested. Name it if someone has another suggestion. Cfb and Luc are you going to contact them ? Also what kind of review do you have in mind ?

I've reached out to Steve, he's a busy guy, but I'll let you know if/when I hear back.
1403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 13, 2014, 06:03:45 PM
who will do it ?
Andreas M. Antonopoulos  ( http://antonopoulos.com/ ) Huh
Community should find someone with a master degree in Cryptography.
that is him...
His many expertise include Bitcoin, crypto-currencies, Information Security, Cryptography, Cloud Computing, Data Centers, Linux, Open Source and robotics software development. He also has been CISSP certified for 12 years.

He is the dude.

Indeed. Had forgotten about M. Antonopoulos. If he would agree to make the independent review, his research results would be trusted by the BTC community, though he's very busy expert.

+1, not a good choice.

Don't sell NXTs so cheap and in big amounts because you only help speculators kill Nxt rate on DGEX. Seriously, not when bitcoin is falling. This is the best way to damage community because noone will invest in it since rate can't recover. Even big stock holders aren't damaging it so much like you this way. I don't see any strategy here no HOLD action to help Nxt rate and create demand boosting community growth. When someone leaves dgex he want go back soon. Even if someone don't like dgex it will still affect price of Nxt on any other exchange in future. Kill it and u'll kill Nxt.

Warren Buffett said, “Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy and Greedy When Others Are Fearful”

Yep, it's a great time to buy Nxt.
1405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 13, 2014, 05:16:12 PM
Hi, sorry if this question has been answered but are the NXT addresses of the 71 stakeholders known publicly? If so, where can I find them. I think information of the coin dispersion would be useful and it would serve the NXT's transparency P2P-model well.

Also worth checking out blockchain with top accounts  http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=34
1406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 13, 2014, 03:55:05 PM
Details here please. That would save me the time to PM back and forth to our developers. We would appreciate any input.

Imagine an application development platform that is completely distributed (both Meta data and application data) and you will have an idea of what I have in mind.

The reason that Nxt would be the choice to do this is AM and TF.

What are you looking for to implement?  Investors?  Perhaps a Nxt IPO?
1407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 13, 2014, 12:44:03 AM
Fatal flaw: In the future there will be quantum Computers breaking 256 bit protection. Hence nxt is doomed.

This is not the injected flaw.

Haha.  BTW, we will also be using quantum computers to protect Nxt.

I say 3 days until we reach 1000 posts, Arbitrary Messaging will garner a lot of attention and posts in the next two days.

I always wondered why Voting System was such an emphasized part of NXT. Now I know. BCNext knew that nobody, not even himself, could solve all the problems ahead of time.

If NXT ever runs into the systemic problems bitcoin is running into, we will be able to vote on the best solution.

James

Currently you have voting system in bitcoin. Each miner can vote with his mining power, but it is completely centralized by ASIC factories... and that is really stupid.

Anyway 1NxT=1 vote is better than bitcoin voting system but it is still not the best solution. For example if in the future something is better for the whole comunity, but has few bad effects to the big players they probably won't accept that.

I see that as a balancing effect: 1 NXT = 1 vote prevents 100mil zombie bot accounts to outvote everyone. Also, if something is better for the whole community, it is unlikely big accounts would vote against it (as they have the most to lose, they wouldn't want to hurt their investment). If the action hurts their investment, they should have a right to defend it, so that also makes sense. I think if the issue is very controversial, over time the majority of the community will eventually agree to a compromise that satisfies the majority of the users without having to cause a hard fork.

I think that while it's not ideal, there is no better solution than this currently. All other methods are vulnerable to attack and abuse. 1 NXT = 1 vote is the only way to ensure fair voting because it's guaranteed by the PoS system.

I really like the voting feature, but I do worry about exchanges that hold large sums of Nxt in escrow being able to have a heavy influence on voting subjects.

What is proves is that the OP really pissed off Dan and he is no longer interested in holding a public sale.  I'm a beta tester and have run multiple clients, if it's a scam, it's a damn good one, but in reality it's most definitely not a scam.

hm… if you had a plan to distribute a new PoS coin trough croud funding, would you cancel that plan just because of a few troll-posts?

He already has a couple hundred investors and enough eMu for initial distribution, which was the whole point of a beta test sale.  He is continuing to add Beta testers.  If so many people are cautious, then why not wait until the client is launched, stop complaining that you can't invest and that it's a scam at the same time.

Sad to see the volume on Dgex going down from over 500 BTC to 50 BTC where it is atm...

We need those new functions AND marketing to drive things forward.

That's Dgex fault, nothing to do with Nxt, be patient.
1414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Official] Cryptsy Coin Poll on: January 11, 2014, 05:06:53 AM
the only Relevance NXT has is that is the Biggest Scam in Btc history, 71 people own all the coins, then give out some a couple to idiots, those idiots scream to get it on an exchange. Then those 71(only them) get rich on the dump.  What part of that is not a scam.

j

you can think i am wrong that is fine, the question you should ask yourself, why are none of the Sr members here into NXT its been out for along time now. just food for thought

A long time, really, since Nov 24th, I guess that's a long time if your mind is slow.  There are over 10k people with Nxt, not 71.  Also, Nxt isn't in BTC history, it's a 2nd Gen currency that has nothing to do with BTC.  It's easy for someone like you to scream scam on everything that isn't BTC, in fact I bet you thought BTC itself was a scam until you actually took 5 minute to do some research.

El Dude is a scammer.  See how easy that is!

Expect price to go up, 0.5.4 release will have Arbitrary Messaging (block 40000), we will have 2 more live Nxt exchanges soon, and nexern's completed client, all by the end of the month.
1420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT Ought to be Taken Seriously on: January 10, 2014, 04:40:12 PM
Since investing into NXT I always knew the distribution could hinder it from being successful. I actually noted down that on the 28th of December, the top 27 holders owned 10+ million NXT but now, 2 weeks later, 23 holders possess 10+ mil. This number turns to 20 if the limit was 10.008 mil (http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=34). This, in my eyes anyway, shows that the 'big fish' are beginning to distribute their stashes pretty well, without crashing the price (which could easily happen in such a low liquid market - the risk of this will be reduced when NXT is traded on more exchanges). I also think that the price boom was heavily due to a massive excess of demand and little supply at the time (buyers buying with extra money from Holidays, sellers taking time off from trading) and when the sellers returned, of course they're gonna sell some of their coinage at these new highs and prevent it from going up way too much. I think that the current prices make it more attractive for investors as they are able to invest into NXT without paying silly prices.

Anyways, you have to bare in mind how new this crypto is, I mean it was only 'officially' launched a week ago. At how things are currently going, I have no regrets in my investment and am eagerly waiting to see how things unfold.

Good points.  As someone who purchased a lot of Nxt from stakeholders in late Nov, I've seen massive distribution since then.  It's not going to happen all at once, and it really shouldn't, there will be more demand once more features are released and more stakeholders will sell.  Most people don't realize that the majority of stakeholders received less than 10mil Nxt during the initial distribution.  Anyway, I still think Nxt is very cheap and I continue to buy at these prices.
