521  Other / Meta / Re: Things not against forum rules but frowned upon by community! (Beta!) on: January 20, 2016, 01:01:32 PM
3 technically is against the rules because the good traded must be legal in the buyer and seller's jurisdictions, and I think trade stolen and hacked things is illegal everywhere.

And I would write: don't ask for loan without collateral if you are not a trusted member, specially if you are a newbie

Added that in the loans without collateral line. Thanks Smiley

As for 3, you're right, although I believe it is upto to the moderators if they interpret the stuff being sold/bought is illegal or not and same way some DT members consider some stuff being sold was acquired wrongfully and they leave negatives for that, so I'll leave it there as a suggestion that if you're selling something which you can't provide proof for that it was acquired rightfully, you may get negative feedback from a DT member.

Don't attempt to farm or buy trust.

Added at 9. Thanks Smiley

Or give trust for cheap, if you are from default trust list

Added at 10. Thanks Smiley

Responding here so I can have this thread handy for future reference. Especially for ponzi promoters. Most of this falls under the "Don't be a dick" rules anyway.  Wink

Yeah, it might help newbies and other members who don't understand why were they given negatives. Thanks Smiley

Maybe "forum etiquette" would be a better term for this.

Might be good way to call it. Although, I am just adding things which may prevent users from getting negative feedback. A lot of forum etiquette are already covered by mods here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0 but will add something about it in the OP at the bottom.

Thanks Smiley

I would like to add one for #8 which is not included in the unofficial rules thread but it's forbidden: 8. Don't hijack thread for the sake of whatever you would like to promote in someone's else thread.
I see a lot of those posts specially in service section.

Added below in forum etiquette as I haven't seen anyone been given negative for hijacking a thread and if someone overdoes it or posts off topic replies then they can be reported and moderators will remove them. Thanks Smiley

I can't recall if it's against the forum rules explicitly, but it's definitely frowned upon to post crap like "+1" and other one word replies to things, especially if you're in a sig campaign.  Shitposting.
I think those are covered under rule 1 of the forum rules:
Quote
1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1]
--
1. Such posts like "SELL SELL SELL", "I agree", "+1", "Support", "Watching", "Interesting", "LOL", "SCAM", "LEGIT", "FAKE", other one word posts, posts consisting mostly of swearing, quote pyramids, useless introduction threads, threads about a topic already recently discussed in several other threads.
Sorry sorry sorry!!!  I just got home from work and was too lazy to actually find where the rules are and look at them.  Thank you, I appreciate that and I mean it.  This is actually one of the things I like about bitcointalk--I'm a member at a few other forums, and the amount of crap posts is staggering.  Sometimes you can scroll through many pages of just quote pyramids and just emoticons and it's just ridiculous.

Yes, that is mods area and they're fabulous at it. But thanks for your suggestion anyway. Smiley

BitGo Launches 'Instant' Bitcoin Transaction Tool

Bitcoin security firm BitGo has launched a new service that aims to allow clients to accept bitcoin transactions prior to their official confirmation on the blockchain.

Called BitGo Instant, the offering aims to allow users to accept transactions more quickly, while guarding against the possibility that funds could be 'double spent' or otherwise altered before they settle against the bitcoin ledger.

523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bought BTC - sent to BTC core wallet on: January 19, 2016, 03:35:22 PM
You could use a lite client like Electrum and import your keys there as it doesn't requires downloading the blockchain, which will give you instant access to your coins.
524  Other / Meta / Things not against forum rules but frowned upon by community! (Beta!) on: January 19, 2016, 03:15:51 PM
An effort to clear out some of the grey area regarding things which are not specifically against the forum rules, but are considered immoral/wrong by community members. The community is getting bigger and we see a lot of threads where users are having trouble deciding whether the negative trust someone received was right or wrong. So maybe this can be served as a guide on what is considered wrong by the community and should therefore be avoided.

So kindly suggest the things which you consider to be wrong/immoral on the forum.

To start,

0. Don't Scam and/or try to scam in any way.
1. Don't ask for loans without proper collateral if you are not a trusted member, specially if you are a newbie. [Thx to elite3000 for suggestion] [Read this for more detailed explanation of this.] [and this]
2. Don't refuse to use escrow. [If a party is willing to cover the fee, then there should be no problems with using one.]
3. Don't sell stolen/cracked/carded stuff.
4. Don't promote Scam/Potentially scam sites.
5. Don't escrow your own trades.
6. Don't bid on items in an auction if you don't wish to buy.
7. Avoid buying/selling forum accounts.
8. Don't post personal information of members, unless it is necessary, for ex. in case of a scam.
9. Don't attempt to farm or buy trust. [Thx to knightdk for suggestion]
10. Avoid giving positive trust for smaller-trades/loans/escrow, if you are from default trust list, a neutral should suffice to document the trade. [Thx to Omikifuse for suggestion]
11. Don't Lie. Especially when doing trades, lying is considered shady and it might make you look suspicious and untrustworthy.
12. Don't ask for donations unless you're part of a registered charity and the address for funds is directly of the organization and not personal.
13. Avoid talking/discussing to yourself/your own alt. [Got this suggestion from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1352505.0]
14. Don't "Shill Bid" on your own auctions, this practice is considered shady and scam as you're duping the other members into thinking that someone else is bidding on your auction. [Got this suggestion from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1436577.0;all]
15. ?

Let me know if something should be added or removed. Smiley

In addition to above, these forum etiquette are expected from good community members but aren't considered enough for negative feedback. Although, not following some of these suggestions repeatedly, may get you banned, especially "0".

0. Read Forum Rules and follow them.
1. Be civil. Insulting other members because of personal differences, race, gender or for any other reason is considered ill-mannered.
2. Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.
3. Don't give bad/wrong advice to other members (especially to newbies, who are new to Bitcoin and this forum)
4. Don't write the whole post in CAPS as it is considered shouting.
5. Don't hijack thread for the sake of whatever you would like to promote in someone's else thread. [Thx to SFR10 for suggestion]
6. Be helpful to other forum members.
7. Report to moderators if you feel someone is breaking the rules of the forum.
8. Report in "Scam accusation" section with proofs if you feel someone is trying to scam.
9. ?
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin After Death - The Will... on: January 19, 2016, 12:14:46 PM
Well here's something you can do, assuming they know how to use bitcoins in the first place.

Make paper wallets for each one and give them the decryption password for it. And when you die they can use the bitcoins if they remember the passphrase and they can't take the bitcoins which was meant for the other member as they wouldn't be able to decrypt it.

Print the paper wallets in their name, keep them safe for you wouldn't want them to spend it while you're still alive and when you die they can use it with their passwords.
526  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Big Bash League T20 Cricket Predictions Discussions on: January 19, 2016, 12:07:19 PM
It was really a super game between renegades and strikers,

first batting strikers scored very good 170 , and in chase gayle storm stuck with 56 runs in 17 balls but other batsman did not supported and all collapsed for 143 all out in 15.3 overs, its like they were playing to win or lose the game in 15.5 overs.

congrats Stickers on winning the match.

so now Sydney Thunders are in Semi Final for the first time in BBL History

The biggest mistake renegades batsman did was they couldn't hold their wickets. Gayle was firing from one end, all they had to do was to give him company, take a single and give him strike and he would have done it but they kept losing wickets from the other end and it must have disturbed him.

If they had kept the wickets, Gayle would have finished this before 15 overs, which was needed for them to qualify for semis. But good for me as I had the Strikers in the Parlay and I won that. Smiley
527  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Western Union Transfer 50% on: January 19, 2016, 11:53:03 AM
It should be fairly obvious that the OP intends to somehow use stolen money to send a WU transfer to whoever is doing business with this person. This is of course assuming that money is sent to you at all.

Either way I would avoid doing business with this person

Says the person with -15 red alert next to his name and is accused of being a scammer from many people here so i find your reply ironic, dont you think?

No, I don't find it ironic at all. He's giving good advice to protect users and I agree with him. You were clearly trying to scam either users of western union by stealing from their accounts or greedy btc users who fall for this in hopes of profit or both and his warning stopped you from doing that.
528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is satoshi POLL on: January 19, 2016, 11:39:16 AM
NOTA = None of the above

This option is missing but seriously I would love if he would somehow anonymously send us hints as to which option among the following he prefers.

Bitcoin core/others

So we can remove the rest.
529  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to begin with becoming an escrow agent? on: January 19, 2016, 11:26:04 AM
Why you want to do it? Its a thankless job and you don't even get paid enough and one fuck up can cause you to lose all the reputation you have gained so far.

So my suggestion is, forget it.

After master-p's incident, its hard for people to trust, even the members with so much green on their account that they can save the world from global warming, how can you expect them to trust unorganic account like yours?

But if you still want to do it, follow the advice of these nice people, like this one:

As been said before: you have no feedback whatsoever... At least do some trades with "normal" people and at least get a lot of untrusted positive feedback before attempting this. Even better would be to get some positive feedback from trusted members, but most of them use their +ve very sparingly. Also positive feedback from DT should be earned Wink

This would make you appear trusted in the eyes of the bitcointalk members. /sarcasm  Roll Eyes

Whenever I copy anything and paste this address gets pasted and make me loose money !

Please help me what to do and anyone else felt same ?

Your computer is infected. Move your wallet to a safer place then format the partition and re-install the OS. After that its best if you make another wallet and move your funds their because this one is most probably compromised.

Dont quite get what you're saying here. Where's the scam accusation ?

I think what he's trying to say is that the owner of this address is trying to scam as whenever he copy pastes any address, this one gets copied into the clipboard instead of the one he intends to.

But yeah, he doesn't have enough information for a scam accusation and this should be regarded as warning or asking for help?

Looking at the blockchain for this wallet makes it look suspicious... tons of small amounts pouring in over the past 3 months... looks like they may have a virus going around...

The address contains more than 4 btc currently and has received 35 in total till now. Couldn't find anything but it is listed here as Bitcoin ATM at Dallas, TX, USA.

MyBTT -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=505479 Abruptly spamming too much, don't he ?

While you're reporting others for spamming. You should understand that replying to a question means adding something from yourself or explaining it in your own words, Copy pasting from google like you did here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1331264.msg13583834#msg13583834 is easy and if everyone started doing this then there would be no need left for discussions. Anyone can post definitions from google.

So I kindly suggest if you have nothing to add to a question, or you don't feel its up to the standard to be asked here then please refrain from answering it through copy paste next time and let someone else do it because unlike you there are people here who are not expert at everything and need help sometimes.

PS:
I would Guilelessly entreat you to do that.
Critically, please stop saying these anomalous things, they're annoying.
Ironically, take care.

Have a couple of Ltc withdrawals stuck as "Waiting for balance...   " and a deposit which hasn't appeared on Bter.com.
Btc transactions seem to be working.
Cant get a response from either email or their ticket system.
Anyone else come across this or have the secret to getting them to respond?
Thanks

They were hacked last year (like cryptsy did just now, if you believe that) and they have been acting strangely since. I hope you get your coins back but I doubt it. Keep us posted.
535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: what's a Lock time: Block xxxx ? on: January 17, 2016, 01:52:02 PM
Blocks are files where data pertaining to the Bitcoin network is permanently recorded. A block records some or all of the most recent Bitcoin transactions that have not yet entered any prior blocks. Thus a block is like a page of a ledger or record book.

The Bitcoin transaction lock time is the time at which a particular transaction can be added to the blockchain . This is the earliest time that miners can include the transaction in their hashing of the
Merkle root to attach it in the latest block to the blockchain.
Some research on google 'ld help you.
P.S. Guilelessly, this was an anamolous question from a hero rank member.

Nice (Guilelessly)copy paste from here (anamolous)  Roll Eyes:

I see it on blockchain.info and I am wondering what it is.

Is it the recent block which was found when the transaction was made ? Or something else..?

PS: If you don't know what I am talking about, you can see it on all confirmed tx on blockchain.info just above "Included in Blocks".

538  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetBTC - Bitcoin Sports Betting | More Sports | Instant Payments | Like Betfair on: January 17, 2016, 12:58:24 PM
We have same events from betfair (maybe the most popular)

When we get closer to the events date, it's more likely that they will appear on betbtc and odds also get better.

To see all events check this page: https://www.betbtc.co/sports/cricket

I didn't check today but I don't think you had the IND vs AUS 3rd ODI or the NZ vs PAK 2nd t20. These are the most popular ones and if they are available many cricket lovers will bet on those.
539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who here has made a lot of money from bitcoin? on: January 17, 2016, 12:54:27 PM
Cryptsy has taken the lead for this year:

13000 BTCitcoin comes to 4,984,000 USD (by the current price)
300000 LTC comes to 908,700 USD ( "")

4984000+908700 = 5,892,700 USD

I think we have a clear winner here. This is the list someone presented me of people/firms who made a ton of money from BTC in last couple of years.

540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Have anyone facing issue with dogechain web wallet ? on: January 16, 2016, 01:54:06 PM
IIRC, dogechain works like blockchain.info's wallet and they let the user have the private keys, so if you have taken the back up you can import those keys into another doge wallet like multibit and use your funds.

PS: Can't access the website too, it shows a blank page.

But If cant login So how can I get private Keys ?

This is why you should have taken the backup when you first made the wallet or before depositing anything there. With cryptsy running, I won't be surprised if they have fled too.

Nothing you can do now but hope that its just a glitch and they sort it out soon and come back.
